What a read!! Sally Hepworth is a gifted writer. She has mastered the art of properly placing clues to the overall finale and creating so much tension you simply have to keep turning the pages. I loved this book.

I loved the balance between perspectives. Now vs then, as well as Amanda who’s character dies at the beginning we get to hear from her in the past as well as in the present “death.” I thought it was brilliant. The last 70 pages of the book nearly turned themselves. I couldn’t put the books down.

Highly recommend and will definitely be buying a hard copy for myself.

I have never come across a Sally Hepworth book that I didn't like and The Soulmate was no different. From the first word to the last, this book was completely captivating. I found this book to be the perfect blend of domesticity and mystery. I think the best aspect of this work is that the family unit isn't always what it seems. The writing is not at all obvious or predictable which is all the more alluring. This book was definitely on my top ten of this year. A title you won't want to miss.

I love Sally Hepworth books so I was very excited to receive this advanced copy and it did not disappoint!

This book really kept my interest as it was told from two narratives, Pippa, the wife, and Amanda, the deceased victim, and delves into the idea of soulmates through the view of two very different marriages.

Loved, loved, loved this book.

Thank you to netgalley and St Martins Peess for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love sally hepworth!!! This wasn’t my favorite of hers but it was a decent. The short chapters kept me wanting to read more. Some of the twists I guess, some I didn’t.

Thank you Netgalley for eARC in exchange for an honest review!

A riveting, poignant, suspenseful look at the highs and the lows of love, marriage, and the opening of one’s heart, (as raw and vulnerable as it gets) to the dreams and dispositions of another.

A particular other. (And what a difference that choice can make).

Told in the first person POV voice of two women, Pippa and Amanda, who alternate back and forth in time between ‘Now” and “Then’, it’s clear each woman is capable of feeling deep love, and has cast her lot alongside another. That’s where the similarity ends, however, as Pippa, a lawyer and a young mother, struggles with the vagaries of her breathtakingly beautiful husband Gabe, whose irregular and unpredictable behavior is a torment and a constant trial laid out for her loyalty and her love.

“Gabe could hurt me.
But he could also make me fly.”

Amanda, on the other hand, is a fifty-two-year old photographer, married to Max, a wealthy media mogul who appears, on the surface, to be a good man, a steady and dependable man, richly deserving of her fidelity. Or is he?

As Pippa, (owner, with Gabe, of an atmospheric and dangerously precipitous cliff-top house), finds the tension in her life skyrocket in parallel with Gabe’s inescapable propensities, Amanda and her story (and the connection between the two narratives) begins to weave mysteriously around it all, setting the stage for an absorbing and shadowy showdown of sorts, which the reader is led to and left at the very edge of - a fitting ending for a nail-biting finale.

As the author plays with her literary puzzle and what it all implies to the weightiness of loaded terms such as “loyalty’, “fidelity”, and “soulmate”, questions cannot help but surface.

How much of one’s self is safely submergible in another?

Does the answer depend on the “worthiness” of ones choice?

Do each of us truly have a choice, or is there one (and only one) “soulmate” out there for us to claim?

A wonderfully challenging read, I loved this book, - slowly setting the stage for passion, drama, suspense and most of all, a mass of tender contradictions - compelling the reader to bear witness to the distance that can span between the achingly vivid helplessness, or the quiet euphoria, experienced by a woman in love, at a single point in time, each of us falling anywhere (and potentially everywhere) across such a divide, in itself as dangerous as it can be divinely welcoming.

A great big thank you to @Netgalley for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

Another winner from Sally Hepworth! I absolutely loved how the story slowly unfolded, from different POVs and going back and forth in time to tie everything together. Would definitely recommend this book to someone who is looking for a domestic thriller!

Buckle up, Sally Hepworth is back!
.
I really enjoyed The Mother-in-Law which was the first Sally Hepworth book I read. And I’ll admit, I was underwhelmed by The Good Sister and The Younger Wife. But I think The Soulmate felt much more like The Mother-in-Law than her last two releases.
.
This book features a couple who live on a property at a cliff in a quiet town. It’s a place where people come to jump. The husband, a charismatic and likable man, is known for being able to talk the jumpers down. Until now… His wife then realizes he knew that jumper. And then we get insight into their lives, marriage, and the people surrounding them.
.
If you have enjoyed Sally Hepworth in the past, you’ll want to pick this one up. It has her characteristic complex plot that builds over time and sticky situations.
.
This book will be out on April 4, 2023 so get your holds in now.
.
Thanks to @netgalley for the eARC of this upcoming novel.

I’ve been on a thriller binge and man this book hit the spot. Sally hepworth is an author I didn’t expect to like but her writing style is so good at drawing me into the story and making me question everything going on

Couple Gabe and Pippa settle in a beautiful home by a sea cliff, after Gabe suffers from a breakdown of sorts. Pippa is now the breadwinner while Gabe becomes the primary caretaker of their 2 little girls. Unfortunately the cliff behind their home is a spot known for people jumping to their demise. Gabe takes on the role of savior to many that have been led to the cliff. Until one day, there is someone he cannot (or would not) save. This event leads to the unraveling of many secrets and their lives will never be the same.
I found this to be a suspenseful and thrilling book and I read it quickly. I will say, however, that I found the main characters were very unlikable and I found it difficult to cheer them on. Some of the other side characters, such as Pippa’s sister and her wife, were much more interesting and likable character. Overall, I’d definitely recommend!

- [ ] This book was wow! Thank you so much netgalley and St. Martins Press for the advance reader ebook!! And thank you to Sally Hepworth for this beautiful story! At first I guess I thought this was going to be a traditional psychological thriller but it was so so much more. The love that is broken and tested through the muddy waters of mental illness are real and tragic. The Soulmate takes you through the lives of those living with and affected by the instability mental illness brings to those. As a psychiatric nurse this was just really a good read and through the perspective of those that have you live with it and are affected by it. Loved this, shed some tears, and highly recommend!

You cannot outthink author Sally Hepworth. Trust me, I’ve tried. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, or that there can’t possibly be any other twist she could come up with – BAM! And that why all her books – including this one, The Soulmate – are such compelling and addictive reads. You.Cannot.Put.It.Down. And you cannot stop your brain from thinking maybe it’s him, maybe it’s her, maybe it’s this, maybe it's that, maybe I imagined everything. And even if you are right it’s just luck because this author is always one step ahead of you. Each secret that is revealed seems so horrible and shocking that you are absolutely certain that’s it, the big one. But just turn the page . . . . Everybody is scary, or can be if you think about it enough, even in this book Amanda from “the other side.” You can’t figure out what any of them did – or what they might do.

Gabe is handsome and charming and mesmerizing. Pippa loves him. He’s her soulmate. Sometimes it seems like he’s everybody’s soulmate. And in Pippa’s case, maybe he is more her Svengali than her soulmate. She can’t pull away, can’t question him, can’t doubt him. To everybody but Pippa handsome, charming, mesmerizing Gabe is also a little flaky, a little concerning, a little vague, a little unstable – a little scary. So much so that when Gabe and Pippa move to that house practically hanging off that cliff, her entire family moves to town to protect her.

There are a lot more than 6 degrees of separation in this story. Everybody is connected to everybody else, sometimes multiple times and in multiple ways. Freya and Gabe’s daughters are only 6 months apart in age. ??? Gabe and Max were business partners but that didn’t quite work out. Pippa and Max know each other, but just how well?

As everyone’s confessor and soulmate, Gabe talks to people who may jump off the cliff. He’s become almost famous for “saving” all those people. Max’s wife Amanda falls/jumps/is pushed? off that cliff. Gabe was there, talking to her, but she wasn’t saved. Pippa saw something, but she’s not sure what it means, and with their Gabe-Pippa dynamic she certainly can’t question him.

The Soulmate is so compelling, so smoothly written, so full of surprise after surprise that you’ll just be swept up, gasping every few chapters when there is another shocking reveal. Excellent read that I recommend without hesitation. I was given a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review. All opinions are my own.

Every book that Sally Hepworth writes is amazing, but this story is her best one yet! I devoured The Soulmate in less than 48 hours! The characters are so complex, yet relatable, and the plot is so original it was a great change from the typical thrillers I read. I will be telling everyone about the book and know it’ll be on the top bestsellers lists!

I was very eager to read this book, having adored Sally Hepworth’s recent novels. However, this one fell a bit short, in my opinion. It is an interesting story and an enjoyable read, for the most part, but Amanda as the omniscient narrator bothered me. This device is something I have seen other authors use and I’ve decided that it is just not for me. I’m sure that it won’t bother all readers, and I hope that many enjoy this book. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Whatever Sally Hepworth writes, I will buy. She is CONSISTENTLY putting out great novels, crafted with twists and complex plot lines. Thank you netgalley & the publisher for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to be in the minority but I did not think this book was that great. It is supposed to be a thriller but I found it to be quite slow, with more of a drama story line. I've read most of Sally Hepworth's other books (if not all!) and this was not one of my favourites.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
