Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors and this book exceeded my normal high expectations! I adore how she portrays the characters with all their flaws and still makes you fall in love with them and with even emphasize with them in spite of faults and mistakes made, either for love or fear! A solid 5 star read! Thank you Net Galley for the advance copy!
5 Huge Stars for this one! I absolutely love domestic suspense thrillers and this one had it all. First of all, the cover is absolutely beautiful - and perfectly captures what I imagine "The Drop" is, tall cliffs which are a popular site for people to end their lives and also happen to be next to Pippa and Gabe's dream home. Gabe has become something of a local celebrity as he's successfully talked several jumpers from plunging to their death. Until one night, he doesn't.... But this victim is different. Gabe and Pippa know her and the question is, did she really jump or was she pushed?
Told in alternating perspectives (from Pippa and Amanda - the dead woman) between "then" and "now" and in very short chapters, this book kept me on the edge of my seat and quickly turning pages to find out what happened - and why. I highly recommend it!
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. A beautiful new home. A beautiful new start. But this home is perched on the edge of a cliff that attracts people when they want to end their lives. The husband starts to go outside to attempt to talk to those people and is successful in saving their lives for the most part. Until one night when one person is someone they know. Or is it? This had me guessing until the end - so well written and so full of twists of turns. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This domestic thriller is fast paced and full of twist and turns. Sally Hepworth is a master story teller and never disappoints. Meet Gabe and Pippa who recently moved to a house on a cliff notoriously known as the spot to go if you’d like to end your life. Max and Amanda, wealthy and odd soulmates, share a strange relationship. Max’s family has a history of mental illness and these characters lives are intertwined throughout this amazing novel. Thank you Net Galley and enjoyed reading late into the night with this one!
The Soulmate was my first Sally Hepworth book and I have to admit I was amazed at how well craft this story is. As a mystery and thriller fanatic, I find I can spot the twist from a mile away, but with this title Hepworth kept me in suspense. I really enjoyed how the chapters and POVs were formatted and I feel it help keep the tension going and growing. The cover for this book is so gorgeous that even though I have already read an ebook copy, I feel like I will be buying a hardcover to put on my bookshelf.
Another amazing book by Sally Hepworth! This one centers around Gabe and his wife Pippa and the story of their life together. It isn't always what it seems to be! As aleays , Hepworth gives us twists and turns and surprises! This one had some big ones!
Overall, I really enjoyed The Soulmate just as I’ve enjoyed Sally Hepworth’s other books. It started out a little slow for me but once it got going I didn’t want to put it down. I liked the short chapters which is always a plus for me and the changing timeline as well as dual character perspectives. I would have enjoyed even a few chapters from Gabe and Max’s perspective but overall I thought it was very well written and just the right length to explain the story and keep your attention.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for letting me read The Soulmate early!
Did they really jump? I have read all of Sally Hepworth's books and I am never disappointed. The Soulmate has suspense with twists and turns that I didn't expect. I love how the author also addresses mental health in her writing. I read this book in 2 days, I couldn't put it down!
a twisty & suspenseful domestic thriller that you won’t want to miss in 2023! fans of neighborhood thrillers like THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR (Shari Lapena) will love this one. short chapters made this binge worthy until the very end!
4.5/5 -- great read! My first read from Sally Hepworth and hopefully not the last.
When someone dies on a cliff edge known for being a popular spot for suicide, what should be a quick to close investigation leads to a lot more questions and answers.
I loved this story being written from two different POVs at two different points in time - Pippa, then and now, and Amanda, before and after. The different POVs are seamlessly woven together to tell a story that reveals so many different facets of the characters and motivations throughout the book.
The main players in the story are all dealing with so many complex issues wrapped in with mental illness, suicide, cheating spouses, and family secrets, creating a lot of character depth. As different parts of the past were revealed, I kept shifting in who I thought was responsible for what happened. I found myself disappointed with how the story ended, erring on the side of being almost too sappy for what was otherwise a deep domestic thriller. Overall, a great book in a deep genre that I didn't want to put down.
Finally! A thriller mystery that isn’t trying to hard, ties up loose plot points, and has those good twists that we’re all looking for.
This book was an enjoyable, quick read for me. Multiple POV story that also jumps between past and present, but it was still followable and controlled in its delivery of plot. Even though it was effective, sometimes the jumps in POV and timeline slowed the story down. Beyond that, I really enjoyed the real portrayal of struggles in relationships: between family members, blended families, dealing with mental illness, expectations, and miscommunication. The twists are foreshadowed without being given away, which I appreciate because they come across as more plausible and genuine to the story. I definitely recommend picking this one up when it comes out!

I was gifted this in exchange for an honest review. I recently read this and really enjoyed it - it has shot up to the top of my favorites list of 2022.
Short book that kept my attention. A woman gets onto a cruise ship without her husband, only to find out his mistress is on the boat too. I liked this book, but it skimmed anything outside of the basics.
Enjoyed the twists, short chapters, and dual POV. This was a good, engaging suspense novel almost at 4 stars for me which is pretty hard to get on my rating scale. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get lost in a story.
Unlike Sally's other books, this one lost my attention. I stopped reading this one multiple times. Although the characters were so well written, something was missing for me in the story and I just couldn't connect. Luckily, it seems like I am in the minority on this one. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc of The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Sally Hepworth. It was faced paced and told from two points of view, in the past and present. I raced through it and it kept me guessing until the end.
Thank you netgalley . This was a pretty fast paced thriller and it hooked me . If you like sally Hepworth you’ll like this book .
The best Hepworth to date! Pull on a single thread and see what unravels. This was a tight, interwoven storythat was masterfully crafted. I do not want to give away more that!
Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the Chace to review this early read.
Gabe and Pippa, hoping for a fresh start to their marriage, buy a cliffside home in an idyllic seaside location. The problem? The location is known as “The Drop” a place where people commit suicide by jumping to their deaths.
Gabe makes a name for himself as someone who can talk people down from the edge, preventing many suicides. Until one day he fails. Despite his best efforts, he is unable to save Amanda. What Gabe doesn’t mention to the police is he knows the woman. His wife Pippa doesn’t mention that she is unsure of what she saw unfold before her eyes as she watches the events out of the kitchen window.
The story is told through the alternating points of view of Pippa and Amanda, both before and after Amanda’s death. This worked quite well, as it allows a slow reveal of the facts to the reader. Secrets and lies come home to roost with devastating consequences. This is nothing new in domestic thrillers, but the author has a fresh spin on the genre.
I also felt the author dealt with a particular condition (no spoilers!) extremely well. Through my experiences as a nurse, as well as knowing someone who suffers from it, I can say with confidence the author nailed it.
Sally Hepworth is masterful at writing books that deals with serious issues, but doing so with a light touch. I literally flew through the last 70% while on a long-haul flight and the pages nearly turned themselves.
I really enjoyed the book. Sally Hepworth does not disappoint in another domestic thriller. The book is a good page turner that keeps you guessing as to just what happened at TheDrop and why, I enjoyed the various characters’ perspectives and the back and forth time line was easy to follow but added suspense to the story. Just when I thought I had one piece figured out, there was a new surprise.
