Gosh, love the author and wanted to really love this one…but it was a bit too slow moving and had some confusing connections. The beginning was strong and I thought it was heading one way, only to head in a totally different direction. If you enjoyed The Guest List, I think you’d like this one!
Such a great book! 4.5 stars for sure!
Marriage, some mystery, murder. This was such a quick and easy read but I was sad when I finished it because it was so good! I loved the view points of this book between the female characters of the book going from “before” and “then” and “now”. A few different twists in the book that I definitely did not see coming which I love.
Thank you St. Martins Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!
There’s something about Sally Hepworth’s writing that draws the reader in, and The Soulmate is no exception. I couldn’t help reading it in a day.
The storyline unravels slowly and deliciously. Each twist and turn reveals another layer of complexity. The well developed characters and intricate story drive the plot forward and keep the audience engaged.
The Soulmate centers on the interweaving and intersection of the lives of Gabe and Pippa, Max and Amanda. The story of the two couples involves considering the concepts of love, loyalty, faithfulness, and normalcy. Through the interconnectedness of each plot line, Hepworth deftly explores the nuances of family, relationships, and trust.
I highly recommend this novel and think its complexity makes it one of Hepworth’s best.
If Sally Hepworth writes it, I know I'm gonna love it.
The Soulmate was no exception. Greg and Pippa are living in their dream home. Save for one little detail; their backyard is a suicide hot spot.
When Pippa sees Greg trying to talk another person off the edge, she's shocked by what she sees. One minute the woman is there, the next it looks as though her husband may have pushed her. But that can't be right, can it?
What follows is a dual timeline of different people and events leading up to that fateful day on The Drop.
You won't want to miss this 5 star read!
I received The Soulmate as an ARC. This title immediately caught my eye because I am a sucker for anything by Sally Hepworth, and this did not disappoint at all! The good and bad of marriage, raising a family, and murder! This is a page-turner. I was sucked in from the very first few pages. Like all titles by Hepworth, it started out strong with the action and mystery and just kept on going! I will admit-about 70% through the book I did kind of start to wonder about one of the biggest surprises in the book, but thought “nah-that would be crazy”-and then it came to fruition. Lots of twists and turns, entertaining and quick read. I really enjoyed this book!
I loved everything about this book. The character development. The plot. The twists. The surprises. This is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year and I will be recommending it to my friends.
I love Sally Hepworth and will read all of her works, however I didn't love The Soulmate. Don't get me wrong, it's a good book! I just didn't feel strongly for any of the characters - although Amanda's POV was interesting! 3 stars.
I'm looking forward to Sally's next book!

If Sally Hepworth wasn’t an auto read author for you before, The Soulmate will add her to your list. Sally was already auto read for me following reads including The Younger Wife, The Mother-In-Law and The Good Sister. Gabe and Pippa Gerard share a complicated marriage that becomes further complex when they purchase The Cliff house, a notorious suicide spot. Gabe is able to talk many people off the ledge until one day he isn’t and the person who jumps isn’t someone he’s unfamiliar with. Max and Amanda Cameron also share a less than ideal marriage with their share of secrets. These couples become intertwined further and further and the pieces come together. I enjoyed the ending which brought some closure to these troubled family stories.

Amazing book. Couldn’t out it down. I do recommend. This is definitely going to be a reread for me.I give this a 4 star.
What happens when your soulmate isn't who you think they are? Gabe has a knack for saving people who come to their cliff's edge to end their lives, until one day he fails. Pippa feels like there's more to the story that Gabe isn't telling her. Their happy marriage unravels as the secrets come out. Alterating viewpoints and a fast moving pace keep the reader on their toes until the very end.
This book was amazing! It did a great job at depicting different kinds of mental illnesses without being stereotypical or projecting them all as bad. I also liked the mystery in this. The current mystery was a more subtle, but the background stuff really added to it. I was starting to get irritated that Pippa was so clueless, but I think she knew more than she let herself believe. I loved the writing style, too, and the short chapters. And the ending! It was perfect for the story and actually made me tear up. Overall, I loved this and would love to read more by this author!
The Soulmate
This was a great fast paced read, if I didn’t have a hectic work schedule I probably would have read this in one day, this short chapters and consistent twists keep you engaged the whole time.
Gabe and Pipa have a beautiful seaside home, however right off their property is a cliff that is a well known suicide spot. Have had gained a reputation for talking people down from that cliff.. until one might be doesn’t. You have alternating perspectives between Pipa and the most recent cliff jumper Amanda, you see their relationships with their significant others and beyond. The character development in this book was took notch! I didn’t see the ending coming and that doesn’t often happen for me, would highly recommend. All of Sally Hepworth’s books are great and her newest one is no exception.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for my advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a little slow in the beginning as you are getting some background but once I got about 40% through it got better. Not super thrilling but there was enough of a mystery to keep me interested. Solid book with decent main characters and a decent plot.
Overall, this was a good. Would recommend.
This was very different from the other books I've read by Sally Hepworth but still a great read! At first I was thinking this was a complete divergence from the unreliable narrator she does so well, but this takes that as kind of a back burner trope. It's not totally missing but it's also not the entire story.
I also loved that Amanda and Pippa were the ones doing the narrating. They give this past/present story presentation to where you think that they are just all consumed with their husbands but...no. I mean yes, but no. No, I cannot elaborate or you will have spoilers.
This was a great read that could fall under a few different genres probably but for me it still felt best to make it a semi-domestic thriller. But of course, not your usual. Sally always gets that heart rate pumping so there always more than meets the eye with The Soulmate. I would say that the other books are more fast paced but this one is FULL of suspense.
Another of Sally's books I have no issue recommending...they are all fantastic, wild rides.
A woman falls to her death from a well-known suicide spot on the cliffs outside the home of Pippa and Gabe Gerard and their two young daughters. Gabe has become locally famous for talking people down from their suicidal intentions. This time he failed. Pippa sees him holding his hands out just as the woman falls. The Soulmate explores what happens in the wake of this death. Who was the woman? Why did Gabe fail to save her?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s a satisfying page-turner that goes in unexpected places. Hepworth slowly doles out the reveals, hooking you in so you can’t wait to find out what happens next. Pippa discovers a web of connections between the dead woman and her family and a complicated series of events that led to that moment on the cliff.
While Hepworth is a master at this type of domestic suspense, she sometimes takes shortcuts that test credibility. I disliked her use of the dead woman’s point of view. It was weird! How can you be in a dead person’s POV in a reality-based book? This story is not fantasy or paranormal. It was jarring and out of place. It felt like cheating. Figure out some other way to tell the story!
Also I don’t like how she gratuitously holds back crucial information. It feels manipulative, not organic to the story. She’s done this in other books and I just don’t like it.
Nevertheless, I always read her books lickety-split and look forward to the next one.

Loved this book. The twist wasn't too out of left-field where you're left thinking that it was completely unplausible. The chapters are short, but not too short. Just enough to where you are constantly wanting just one more chapter. If it weren't for my pesky kids, I could have devoured this in one sitting! A true page-turner that will have you thinking you know what is going to happen only to throw you for a loop at the end.
Gabe and Pippa move to their dream home, but there's a downside. Isn't there always? They live on a cottage next to a cliff which is a known suicide spot. Gabe is praised as being the guy who has been able to save all of those who have come to jump since they moved in until one night when a lady comes for a visit that he is unable to save. As the police uncover more information, Pippa realizes that they knew the woman: Gabe's ex-bosses wife. Why would Gabe keep this from Pippa? What is he trying to hide? Is he trying to protect his family or is there something more sinister at play? Secrets begin to be uncovered as you make your way through this crazy trip!
I initially wasn't interested in reading The Soulmate - but after seeing all the rave reviews - I knew I had to give it a shot.
The Soulmate is a domestic thriller centered around a family that moves near a dangerous cliff with a breathtaking view - unfortunately, it's also a popular suicide spot. Gabe, the husband, has a great track record of saving lives at this spot but one day a woman falls to her death. His wife, Pippa, watches the encounter from out her window and instantly has a bad feeling and isn't sure if the woman took her own life, or if something more sinister happened involving her husband.
This novel is unique in the sense the big plot point is revealed almost immediately in the very beginning and the reader is left reading on to find out the truth. The story is told in alternating POVs and past/present, which I did enjoy. I found the chapters quick and easy to read but unfortunately they just didn't hook me. The story was slowly sprinkled with breadcrumbs to the truth and I found myself bored too often. The plot twist at the end caught me by complete surprise but it just wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the novel for me.
Even though I didn't particularly enjoy the book as much as I wanted to, I would still recommend to friends since I am clearly in the minority. I'm interested in reading Sally Hepworth's other novels as well.
3.5/5 stars
Thank you to Net Galley, St. Martin’s Press and Sally Hepworth for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Sally Hepworth does it again! Another great book by this author that I thoroughly enjoyed! Fast becoming a fan!
The Soulmate kept me guessing, I did not see that ending coming! Told from two different points of view and in past and present tense. Very fast paced read with twists along the way!
Highly recommend. I cannot wait to see what Sally Hepworth comes up with next! 4 stars!
A big thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!
Sally Hepworth knows how to spin a story. I had a hard time putting this read down as it had me wanting to see who the Soulmate was. Pulled me in from the first page until the last.
I went in completely blind and just held on because it’s so twisty! I thought I knew, but nope. Married couple Gabe and Pippa with their two daughters bought a house on a cliff. It’s become known as “The Drop” because people go to end their life, but Gabe has saved each of them except one. Her name is Amanda and through alternating timelines, we learn her story. The other POV is Pippa with a story of her own! Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a copy.
