I've been waiting for another novel by Sally Hepworth because they are books I just can't put down. The Soulmate was a hands down 5 star book! I loved every bit of it from beginning to end. Readers are thrown into an emotional rollercoaster trying to solve this murder mystery. Hepworth even let's the reader have a perspective from beyond the grave from one of the characters that
I'm not used to having in other novels. I LOVED this perspective!!!! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an outstanding read!!!!

Of all the Sally Hepworth books I have read, this is probably the best. Tight storyline, kept me guessing. Delightful how the different twists unfolded. Would recommend.

Sally Hepworth’s latest book The Soulmate was quite the page turner! Like her other books, this book was filled with more than a few plot twists that I didn’t see coming.

This story begins with a seemingly perfect life of Pippa and Gabe living at a beautiful cliffside cottage with their beautiful daughters. Sadly, many people make their way to the cliffside to end their lives and Gabe more than a few times has come to the rescue and has literally talked some off the ledge. He is a true hero until one time he isn’t. Gabe’s story doesn’t line up with what his wife Pippa sees and she is battling with whether to trust her husband’s recollection of what happened or if wants to believe what she saw. Gabe is hiding something and Pippa needs to figure out the true story and whether her soulmate can be trusted or if he is hiding something bigger than she wants to believe.

The Soulmate was a captivating mystery that had me guessing until the very end. The short chapters had me flying through the book and I liked the dual perspectives throughout the story. Sally Hepworth has a way of writing that ropes you in from the start and keeps you hooked until the end. Overall I rate this one a solid 4.5 ocean waves. I enjoyed this one just as much as the Good Sister! What Hepworth book is your favourite?

Thank you to Sally Hepworth, St. Marin’s Press and Netgalley for this advanced copy. I absolutely recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a good thriller. This one hits the shelves in the spring (April 18th) but I promise you won't be disappointed.

It’s good, but not great. Not my favorite Sally book, but I still love her as an author & will continue to read whatever she writes.

Pippa and Gabe seem to have a pretty good marriage- or so it seems at first. Gabe is a stay at home dad and has become quite newsworthy after talking down several suicidal people. The cliff behind Pippa’s and Gabe’s new house is a popular spot to make that decision. However, the delicate nature of their marriage becomes apparent after Gabe fails to stop a woman from jumping. That starts the domino effect that continues to tumble until the very last moment. Enjoy the ride you won’t see coming!!

Sally Hepworth has created an intriguing mystery about a family living by a cliff and the web of relationships that lead them into trouble. I loved each plot twist and found myself wanting to read more. My main criticism is that the beginning and middle dragged on regarding certain aspects, but then I felt as if the end was rushed. We found out a bunch of extremely relevant details and plot twists all in the matter of the last couple of chapters. While this is normal for mystery books, I wished the plot twists and reveals would have been a bit more evenly spread to keep excitement throughout, rather than being hit with new information after we already know the truth. I prefer to learn information as we are in the process of figuring out what happened rather than finding out after the resolution has already been reached.
I really enjoyed the story and would ultimately recommend this book to readers!

Sally Hepworths books haven’t disappointed. The soul mate is told from different points of views. Pippa and Gabe’s dream house because a nightmare.. extremely hard to put down. There’s lies, cheating and maybe even a murder. Hands down my favorite Sally Hepworth ( so far) i couldn’t even get over the ending

Sally Hepworth is a consistently great writer. She explores families in completely unique and devastating ways. Her pacing in The Soulmate is top notch and the way these two point of views came together made perfect sense at the end. I always appreciate multi points of views and in this case, I enjoyed the different way she used this. I don’t want to spoil what I mean but you will know when you read it (iykyk). Hepworth’s characters first appear perfect but as you read along in the two timelines, you realize they are anything but. There is a trail of clues that I was unable to figure out. I read this quickly due in part to the short chapters and because I had to know where this was going to lead. This book will make you reconsider if having a soulmate is a good thing!

Gabe and Pippa Gerard thought they found their dream home, but they soon learn that it is anything but... it comes with what locals call The Spot, a cliff where folks go to die. Now their happy new home feels tainted, and Pippa begins to witness things out of the ordinary. Her husband isn't acting himself and when a young woman takes her life, his part in it comes into question. As Pippa begins to sift through the details of the death she begins to wonder if her husband is keeping secrets... something isn't right and she intends to get to the bottom of it, even if it threatens everything she holds dear!

The Soulmate is a spellbinding tale that kept me up in to the wee hours of the morning, I had to see how it would all play out, and let me tell it you it didn't lack in suspense and awe. The mind games, thrills, and twists are very present in this one, it was a spectacular read!! This is my first from this author, and I think it is safe to say it won't be my last, her cleverly penned words delighted on all fronts!! Highly recommend!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley request, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Gabe and Pippa live in a beautiful house near a spot called The Drop. It's not unusual for people to show up there when they're contemplating suicide, but Gabe has always been able to change their minds - until now. As Pippa watches from their house, a woman speaks with Gabe for a bit before jumping off the edge. But when the police talk with Gabe, what he tells them happened isn't what Pippa saw, and she begins to doubt her husband just a little bit. The story is told from several points of view - Pippa (now and then) and Amanda (before and after) - and it's a very effective way to tell the story. It kept me turning pages to find out what happened to these two women and to their families. Many thanks to NetGalley, Ms. Hepworth, and St. Martin'sPress for the ARC of this title.

Pippa and Gabe buy a beautiful house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. They love it except it seems to attract people who want to end their lives. Gabe seems to be able to talk them down, until one night, he doesn't.

This is quite the page turner. Hepworth writes so convincingly that you feel what the characters are feeling and it seems you are there with them. The twists were awesome and believable. The story is told from two women's point of view, and they each have a before and now which leads to the final scenes. Very well done.

I was excited to find that Sally Hepworth had a new book out as I enjoy her writing. This book was great! It had enough twists and turns to keep my attention and a satisfying ending. Thanks for the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this book. The Soulmate kept me hooked and there were just the right number of layers to keep the action moving and the tension at a steady hum without it feeling forced. I didn't bother trying to guess anything and you shouldn't either! Part of what makes this book work so well is that it carries you along with it. It's like you witnessed an accident on the other side of the highway only to see the carnage is far from done. The initial event is just the beginning.

I love Sally Hepworth so I really wanted to like this one but it didn't work for me.

Something about the way this book was written kept me at an arms length from the story and the characters. I didn't feel invested and felt like I had to trudge through this one to finish it. I expected a bigger plot and more twists - at least one of the "twists" I felt was very obviously alluded to from the very beginning.

The book alternates chapters both with narrators and time periods of "before" and "after." Neither of the female narrators had strong voices so I had trouble differentiating between the two and had to go back and double check which chapter I was reading. I also found that many chapters marked "after" would actually go on to describe events in the past which made the entire reading experience confusing and messy.

This was a complete miss for me and I think Sally Hepworth has much stronger novels out there! I loved The Mother in Law and would recommend that over this one any day.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

From the publisher- "There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.

When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?

And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.'

I absolutely loved this book from the first few lines. I was hooked and I did not stop reading until I had completed the entire novel. I loved Pippa's character, she was realistic, if not a touch naive at times, and I felt like I was living her life, watching the difficulty unfold with Gabe, Max, and Amanda. Pippa is the breadwinner of the family and you really start to see the weaknesses in his character throughout the novel. There are times when you really dislike him, and possibly Pippa as well. Even the background characters are fleshed-out and important to the story. I felt like this was such a great book with lots of twists and turns. I refuse to review a book as "Twisty" or the "Next Gone Girl," but this checks all the boxes for an absolutely amazing read that would translate well to the big screen. I am somewhat new to Sally Hepworth but I have to admit that one of my favorite things about her writing is that it's all so unique. I have loved all of Hepworth's novels in their own individual way! I look forward to the next book that Sally Hepworth publishes, as I'm sure it'll be an absolute page-turner!

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this phenomenal digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest review.

First things first. I could not put this book down. I lay in bed staying up until the wee hours of the morning to get to the end. It had such great twists and turns, and executed them so well which isn't always the case for domestic thrillers like these. I didn't feel a particular attachment to any of the characters but surprisingly that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. A murderous easy breezy thriller.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the e-arc.

📱”The Soulmate” by Sally Hepworth

⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ publication date April 4, 2023

A thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and twisted secrets. Two couples, Max, Amanda, Gabe and Pippa are intertwined more than they know. Mental illness plays a big part of this story- told from Amanda and Pippa’s perspectives, both looking at the past and present.

Gabe and Pippa’s dream home is on a steep coastal cliff not too far from “The Drop” a popular spot for people to end their lives. Gabe has found he can help by talking people off the ledge, until one night when he doesn’t. To find out Gabe knew the victim, makes Pippa ask so many questions about her husband, who she thought she knew, and take a serious look at her life, marriage, and past.

Sally Hepworth is a favorite author of mine so I was very excited to read this new novel. It was not my favorite of hers but the short, suspenseful chapters made for a quick read.

I read that this murder and marriage book came out of a what’s app complaint about husbands pandemic habits. That would have been much
better. I was a fan of the way the writing set the scene. I found the two women narrative voices to be indistinguishable and weak. I liked the
concept of seeing a story writ large after death, that was actually my favorite driving the plot forward technique. Bipolar, ADHD Gabe not credible…criminal investors, silly..needs huge rewrite leaving out the above to truly be believable domestic suspense
I had to look up the details of the tv program the girls were watching and it totally charmed me, best part of the reading experience. I seem
to find Sally Hepworth and Catherine Steadman books cohabiting in the genre…no contest Catherine Steadman has a truly unique and dark mind..and writes characters so much more vividly...three stars or less

told across dual timelines from multiple POVs, the soulmate is a captivating romantic suspense with plenty of twists and turns. the characters all had their secrets, and they were revealed along the way at just the right times as it led up to one final twist [that I definitely didn’t see coming]!

the writing was incredibly descriptive, and I found that I could clearly picture the setting - from the cliff house to their small coastal town. it also had great character development and built up the family dynamics/relationships well.

while the concept of the book was riveting and I enjoyed it overall, I did find that there was something missing for it to be a 4-5 star read [I’d give this a 3.5]! there was a lot of back-and-forth between the past and the present which I appreciate in building the backstory, but I wanted it to be a bit more fast-paced in getting to the events of the present day.

that being said, it was still a page-turning book [with short chapters!] that I’d definitely recommend if you enjoy domestic/family thrillers!
