Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC. While the pace of this book was great to keep me entertained, the overall plot lost me a bit.
This book has an original storyline with more twists than you can even guess. I couldn't stop reading. I would recommend it to anyone who likes surprises in their books that they don't see coming.
The Soulmate had me hooked! I couldn't wait to see what happened. I was waiting for the classic twists that Sally Hepworth usually includes in her books. It's what I love so much about them. Unfortunately, I didn't feel that The Soulmate had any mind blowing moments. The beginning had me hooked but by the end I had lost interest in the story.
Wow is all I have to say! The Soulmate is a complex story following two families - Gabe and Pippa moved to a house on the coast next to “The Drop”, a popular suicide spot. When a woman falls to her death, a mystery follows when it is discovered who the woman was.
This novel explores the complexity of marriages, families, mental illness and business dealings. No matter how much you think you know someone, there are usually secrets and things to learn about the other person…. Sometimes love gets you through it, sometimes it doesn’t.
This book started out a little slow for me, but I was quickly drawn into the characters and all of their complexities. This was masterfully written, and I can’t wait to read Hepworth’s next book.
4.5/5 stars ⭐️ … but only because it took me a few chapters to get into it.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for gifting me this incredible ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!
There was no shortage of twists or secrets in this book. It was definitely more suspense than thriller but the short chapters and intriguing plot kept me turning the pages very easily. Thanks so much to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
How do you define your soulmate? This new thriller from Sally Hepworth is full of twists and turns, told in past and present, and spinning the worlds of two couples together through it all. Pippa is certain that she has met her soulmate in Gabe, and when they move to their dream cliffside cottage, they feel that all their past troubles are over. Max and Amanda's marriage begins as one of convenience, but are they really soulmates too? Or, are some things stronger than being with your soulmate? This story was captivating, kept me guessing, and on the edge of my seat until the end. Thanks to the author, publisher, & NetGalley for the chase to review this book. Definitely recommended!
I always look forward to Sally Hepworth books and was really excited to read this one. i enjoyed it alot, i think this is what of my favorite of hers thus far! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this one. Can't wait for the next one!
Another great read from Sally Hepworth. I was immediately sucked in, and I couldn't wait to find out more about what happened. I really liked how the author was able to include Amanda's side of the story. It was also really interesting to see things from Pippa's point of view, as a devoted spouse to someone suffering from mental illness. It left the reader guessing- where did Gabe begin and end in regards to his mental illness? There were many twists that I did not see coming.
Thanks to NetGalley for the book to review.
I was really excited to have the opportunity to review “The Soulmate” and I was not disappointed! Sally Hepworth has done it again! This book is equal parts thriller, romance, and empowerment. The story flows so well and the pages turn quickly and easily because Sally, writes one hell of a psychological thriller.
I’ll give a quick rundown of the plot:
Pipa and Gabe are a married couple with two children who decide to buy a house that fulfills their dreams. This house is located on a cliff in a small Coastal town. Family members live close by, and it all seems like one lucky, loving and happy family, but…
The house location is close to a cliff where people come to commit suicide. Gabe, stays home, and notices someone on the cliff, whom apparently is going to jump, but Gabe is able to stop him! Of course, being a small town, word travels and Gabe becomes kind of an reluctant hero. Then one day Pipa sees Gabe talking with a woman on the cliff, and well let’s just say there is a question of whether she jumps or is pushed? And now, Pipa is questioning a loving husband. Soon Pipa finds out the identity of the woman and going between two POV’s we learn the truth and some secrets are revealed…
I am a fan of Sally Hepworth. Period. Her books never disappoint and have engaging characters and plots and twists. This book is no exception
I happily and without a doubt give this book 5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a eARC to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had a hard time getting into this book but I love Sally Hepworth so I kept with it. It ended up hooking me so I’m glad I didn’t quit! This author knows how to tell a story and writes her characters perfectly.
A woman falls off a seaside cliff. Did she jump or was she pushed? This book hooked me right in and kept my interest (almost) to the end. I liked how the pieces came together over the course of the reveal. I didn’t really like having the dead woman’s point of view post-death added in but I did like her pre-death perspective. I felt that things went off the rails towards the end so my rating kept adjusting down. All in all, I think that fans of Sally Hepworth’s books will like this one, especially if Barrie Kreinick narrates the audiobook!
*Thanks to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this advance review copy.
Sally Hepworth is a favorite author of mine, so I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of The Soulmate. Thank you, St. Martin's Press!
From the first few pages you are immediately hooked, as a darling, seemingly happy wife, Pippa, witnesses someone jump off "the Drop" - an infamous suicide spot near their home in a beach town in Australia. Gabe, Pippa's husband, is somewhat of a local hero who has been known to talk people out of a destructive decision at "the Drop" a few times. Though in this circumstance, Gabe did not succeed in talking this woman out of jumping - or is there just more to the story?
The story alternates between two narrators, Pippa, Gabe's wife, and Amanda, the woman who jumped. This seemingly perfect marriage and family is revealed to be far more complicated than you initially thought - and the cracks and problems reveal themselves in each chapter as you race to solve the mystery of the suicide and learn more about Pippa and Gabe's relationship and past.
The pace was wonderful, and I loved how the last few chapters wrapped up, as bittersweet as it was. Highlight recommend putting this one on your TBR list!
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth was just a fun, fun book to read. Twists, suspense, easy to read and moved along at a good pace. It was a great beach read for me but would be a great read any time of year!
Amanda discovers her husband has been unfaithful and travels to The Drop, a well known cliff where many have ventured before to take their life. Pippa and her husband, Gabe, recently purchased a cliff side home near The Drop and changed Gabe’s course to trying to save those who feel there is no hope left. Every time Gabe has gone out to listen and talk to the cliff seeker, he has been able to talk them into walking away and going back on life. Until Amanda arrived.
What follows is masterful storytelling of Amanda’s and Pippa’s past and how it was on a collision course for what happened to Amanda at The Drop. Traveling from the present to the past without confusion, Hepworth weaves the intricate tale of what happened that fateful day. Did Amanda jump? Did she accidentally fall? Did Gabe have a part in her falling off the cliff? How does Amanda’s husband figure into what happened that day?
I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a suspense/mystery. The twist in The Soulmate is unexpected, followed by another twist that takes your breath away. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy. Opinions expressed are my own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my favorite Sally Hepworth book out of all I have read. It is a very intriguing and interesting premise, a lot of suspense, and some twists sprinkled throughout the story as it goes on. As usual. Hepworth is a master with character development, creating complex dynamics- nothing is black and white here. I took off one star because I was a little disappointed with the ending but overall, it is an excellent read that keeps the pages turning.
WOW! Sally Hepworth has done it again, she kept me up far too late into the night to finish her book. The numerous closets that are chock full of skeletons make for a whip-lash inducing storyline! Pippa, and her husband, Gabe, live in a house on a cliff. In addition to the great views is 'The Drop,' a well-known spot for jumping to one's death. Gabe is known for joining persons at 'The Drop' to convince them not to jump, until one day he is unsuccessful.
The story is told from the alternating 'before' and 'after' points of view of Pippa and the deceased woman, Amanda, that flesh out details of the character's lives. This technique was very well executed with gradual revelations and a steady build of suspense. I have loved all of the author's books, but this was my favorite!
Threaded themes include mental illness, adoption, marriage, infidelity, family dynamics, betrayal, secrets, financial crime and more.
Run, don't walk when this one is available in April, 2023! Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and the author, Sally Hepworth for the advanced reader's copy. This review contains my honest opinions.
Loved this one! A great book about family, love and sacrifices. It kept me interested until the end. I loved all of the characters and the different perspectives it was told from. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for an advance copy.
Trigger warning: Mental Health, Suicide.
The Soulmate is about a couple who seems to have a picture-perfect marriage but as the story evolves, the reader realizes there are lots of secrets between them.
Pippa and Gabe live in a house by a cliff, next to the ocean. Gabe has become a local hero that talks people out of jumping from that cliff, until one day he doesn’t. Pippa realizes her husband knew the suicide victim and questions what actually happened.
Written from two different POV and two different timelines, the story can, at times, be hard to follow. This mystery/psychological/domestic thriller was entertaining, but I didn’t love it. I much prefer The Good Sister over this one.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel.
The Soulmate started off strong, dragged though the middle, and ended up neat and tidy with a few twists along the way. Not the best story I've ever read, but not the worst. It kept my attention until the end, even though at times I wished something, anything else would happen. Would recommend for a quick, easy read. Thanks Netgalley for this ARC!
Hmm. I’ve read quite a few books by this author which I enjoyed, but sadly I can’t say the same about this one. It dragged out a bit and I felt like I was waiting for a big wow factor, and that didn’t happen. The characters were ok, the storyline was ok, but again, I didn’t find it thrilling
