Another winner from Hepworth. The dual narrative by Amanda and Pippa was very well written and the storyline flowed nicely. The plot twists makes this such a rapid page turner you will want to read this in one sitting.

I gave this a one out of five stars. It was an okay read but I didn’t love it. It felt like mindless reading. That as long as I was reading the story was in my head but I would forget what I read.

Gabe and Pippa with their two daughters live on a beautiful house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately, it’s also a popular spot where people commit suicide. Gabe has been able to talk people off the ledge until now. Amanda has died but was or suicide or did Gabe push her?

This book was addicting! Gabe and Pippa seem to have the perfect life and Amanda’s death seems like a suicide but once you dig into the past you start to question everything. Told in the past and present by both Pippa and Amanda. It’s fast paced, entertaining and twisty. If you enjoy domestic thrillers than this one is a must!

The Soulmate captured my attention right from the beginning and kept me guessing throughout. The novel gives us several different viewpoints, and revelations throughout which make you wonder who is reliable, and who isn't?

The end could've been wrapped up a bit more quickly, however...we do get some great psychological nuggets towards that side of the house that really keep thinking about the novel as a whole well after we are finished.

Overall I'd recommend this one as a next read if you like thriller novels, fast paced plots, and some great twists which you definitely won't see coming.

Thank you to @Netgalley for an advance e-copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review!

Well, that was one wild ride! I was hooked from beginning to end. Lots of maritial drama, secrets, mental health issues, and deception with lots of twists and information revealed throughout the book that kept me reading. I honestly had no idea where the story was going to go. There were even quite a few twists at the end that I didn’t see coming. The audiobook was a fantastic experience with dual narrators that both had Austrailian accents so highly recommend. While The Good Sister is still my favorite from Sally Hepworth, The Soulmate is a very satisfying domestic thriller!

Thank you so much St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley for the gifted copy.

This book kept me guessing the entire time with the secrets that everyone was carrying. I enjoyed the multiple POVs, which kept me intrigued. There was even a twist at the end that I never saw coming!

For quite a long time while reading this book I was confused on where we were going. I was enjoying my time reading it, although I felt like not much happened but I just had a hard time seeing the point of it all. And then once the reveals happens and the answers come around I just feel like they weren't really that special. I won't say I saw them all coming, because I didn't, but they still felt like the easy answer. I wasn't shocked, or the reveals didn't put in more action or anything. I just kind of felt "meh" throughout the entire thing. That's why I don't have too much to say about it. I guess, this book was an enjoyable enough read, also a pretty quick read, but I just don't feel any particular way about it, and I truly think this will be completely wiped from by brain in a few months.

Gabe and Pippa are living in their dream home - a beautiful cottage, near the edge of a cliff, in a sleepy coastal town. This area of the cliff is notorious for suicide. Gabe comes out every night to save these individuals. Except, one night he doesn't. He lets the individual plummet to their death.

Pippa soon finds out that Gabe knew the victim. She begins questioning everything - did the victim jump or did Gabe push her? Does Pippa really know her husband?

I think it's important to go into this novel knowing it is not a true thriller. I may have not chosen to read this one, had I'd know. I would more or less classify it as a domestic drama. There were no jaw-dropping moments. The reveal and ending were average. My biggest issue with this book is the poor portrayal of mental illnesses. I was quite disappointed and was left feeling a bit ick...

I did enjoy Hepworth's writing style. She is a great storyteller. It was a super fast read, so if you are interested in domestic dramas, definitely give this one a read. However, if you are looking for a thriller, this is probably not for you and you will be disappointed in the lack of thrills and excitement.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest. Forgot to post my review when I finished reading this one!

Sally Hepworth is one of my favorites and definitely an autobuy author for me, but this was not one of my favorites of hers. I really liked the premise, but I didn't connect with the characters.

Half a "bullshit, cockamanie, histrionic" star !!

Thanx to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press. This was released April 2023. I am providing an honest review.

To say that this is a terrible read would be an understatement.

The prose was written in a simplistic and dumbed down fashion with short chapters that gave you a development from two women. One alive and one dead and their relationships with their respective soul mates in now and then fashion. Each chapter presents a piece of the puzzle to keep the story going in a very cheap and lazy fashion. The psychologies are inconsistent and labile and vacuous. The misdiagnosis is abysmal....a first year psychiatric nurse would have done a better job...hell a sixteen year old would have done better with their high school psychology text...hell a women's magazine quiz....you get the picture.

I guessed every single twist...not because I am savvy but because it was so damn predictable...all I knew that it had to be both ridiculous and unbelievable...I only did not get the final cliffhanger (hint hint) and when my poor reading eyes read it I actually laughed out loud...like severely. Be still my failing heart.

This book is an utter fail in every which way except for that gorgeous cover, interesting premise and the lovely idea that we all have a soulmate...

The half star is because I had to find out if I was correct about this shitshow...thankfully the novel was short or I may have had to visit that cliff myself...

3.5 stars
I think this is a solid, well written mystery with interesting characters that kept my attention to the very end. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with any of the characters which made me feel removed a bit from the story. This is the first book I have read by this author and since I enjoyed the writing style I will try more by her in the future.

I have read several books by Sally Hepworth, and I have truly loved them all but The Soulmate is the best one to date. I am a sucker for stories about complicated marriages.

Gabe and Pippa live in a remote home near a cliff's edge where sadly people go to commit suicide. Gabe has become a hero as he has talked people off the literal edge multiple times and saved several lives. Until he doesn't and one person perishes.

Told in multi POV, of before and after, this is a gripping story about the marriage between Gabe and Pippa, as well as the Amanda, the person who died, and her spouse. The chapters are short, but every single one of them left me wanting more. The story comes together flawlessly. It was well written and addictive

This is a super fast read with an unexpected plot twist.
Pippa and Gabe are married with 2 4-year old daughters. They live on a house high on a cliff above the ocean. Several people have come by, possibly to jump, but Gabe is always able to talk them down. Then one day, a woman comes by, and when Pippa looks out the window, she sees Gabe's arms outstretched, and the woman is gone.
Pippa is shocked, did Gabe push the woman? When it comes to light that Gabe knew the woman, Pippa begins to wonder at her part in the death. Was Gabe trying to protect Pippa? What is the real story.
This novel goes back and forth between Now and Then and is very cleverly crafted. I would be surprised if anyone guesses the finale.
I really enjoyed this super quick read.

Gabe and Pippa Gerard have had difficult moments in their marriage but are deeply in love, and things have only improved since they moved from Melbourne to a small coastal town with their two young daughters. They adore their house on the cliff until they learn it is a spot where people who want to die by suicide come to jump.

Since they moved in, Gabe has been able to save those who have come to the cliff side in despair—until one night, a woman dies. Gabe’s story to the police conflicts with Pippa’s observations from the kitchen window, and then Pippa learns that Gabe knew the dead woman. Pippa must reckon with the possibility her soulmate lied to the police, and in so doing lied to her. She is willing to go to great lengths to protect Gabe and her family, even if that means covering for him, but as she tries to makes sense of the events, Pippa has to decide just how far she will go.

THE SOULMATE is such an entertaining, fast-paced thriller. The book has two narrators and multiple timelines. I actually preferred the narrator who wasn’t Pippa. I was driven to know what led to the encounter on the cliff and how things would play out between Pippa and Gabe. Additionally, the book raises questions about the existence of soulmates, the limits of loyalty, and the negotiations made in marriages. Mental illness plays a large role in the book, and though one of the characters was an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention, I had concerns about the representation of certain disorders.

Even so, THE SOULMATE was a great read, and I enjoyed it more than THE YOUNGER WIFE, not quite as much as THE GOOD SISTER.

It took me a while to start this review. Simply, because I loved it so much that I wanted my review to not reveal anything so I don't ruin it for you. Just saved yourself the doubt and grab the book. It's worth it, trust me!

The story revolves around a home built on a cliff where people go to commit suicide.

Pippa and Gabe have the perfect little family. Gabe is known as the man who saves those who want to end their lives. One day there is a woman who doesn't survive. Pippa knows what she saw, but Gabe is not being truthful. She later learns that he knew the victim!!!

The best part of this book is the way it is written!! Sally Hepworth gives us the perspective of not only Pippa of course, but the victim, also!!
I for one love to read books where we have multiple points of view. This book makes you wonder who is telling the truth and who is hiding more secrets, and why??
This novel gives us an inside view of marriage struggles, secrets and lies, and the sad discovering that assumptions can really destroy lives.

Sally Hepworth always writes novels that grab your attention at the beginning and are quick reads. You want to finish it in a day, because you simply can't put the book down. She is incredibly talented and continues to entertain us through her words. The Soulmate was my favorite book so far by Sally and I can't wait to read more.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was an okay read. The story moved along at a decent pace and there were well developed characters. I thought the end tied up a little too quickly and neatly.

Let me start off by saying I LOVED the ending. What a wild finish! The ending was filled with twists and surprises that had me gasping. It was action packed and left me with all the excitement of a good thriller. But the rest of the book was honestly a struggle for me. I would have loved this book so much more if it was packed with the same punch I got at the end. This book was very much a slow burn, but far too slow for my liking. The plot gets lost a bit as not much happens until the conclusion. The majority of the story is uneventful. While the “mystery” of story is left in question, it is was never truly a mystery for me as that part seemed fairly self explanatory, the only question was why. I had some issues with one of the points of view, and not just from a realistic standpoint. I feel like there are some statements made and ideas that weren’t very well flushed out or explained and are left up to the imagination. While creative and good for plot development, I feel like we could have gotten some better explanations. I only started to like some of the characters at the very end and had trouble connecting until then. By the end I did appreciate enjoy Pippa’s character development as well as came to understand both Gabe and Max much better. Also appreciated the mental health representation. While this would have been a 2 or 2.5 for me, the ending definitely it up. Overall, the ending left me satisfied but I wish it didn’t take so long to start enjoying.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, Sally Hepworth, and NetGalley for the advance readers copy in exchange for my honest review!

The Soulmate is about 2 couples whose lives are intertwined leading up to an apparent suicide. I like the way that this was written, from the views of the 2 wives in the past and present. It didn’t take me a while to get into. I feel like giving some sort of clues or mystery at the beginning, aside from the suicide, would’ve captured me more. Once it got going, it was an enjoyable, quick read. I didn’t necessarily find any of the characters compelling and some of it was a little ridiculous. Regardless, a fun read.

Thought this was pretty good--definitely did not expect the twist ending, but I would categorize it as more so Women's fiction versus a thriller. Or at least a woman's fiction thriller. Somewhat forgettable after the fact, but enjoyed it while reading it. Went by fast.
