The short chapters made this a super quick and compelling read. I finished it in two days! What can I put in a review that won't give everything away?? There are two female narrators and the timeline is always toggling between past and present. The plot lines revolve around marriage trouble, erratic behavior, and a suspicious death. It's action packed from the beginning. All of this makes the book easy to binge-read and hard to put down! It didn't feel like a traditional edge-of-your-seat thriller by any means, but I "just one more chapter"-ed for hours.
I feel like I would have LOVED this book if I could have connected with (or even liked) at least one of the characters - but I found them all so unlikeable!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you for this book in exchange for my honest review.
I had high hopes for this book by Sally Hepworth. Who wouldn’t like a story featuring an ominous cliff and a woman who mysteriously goes over when a man who supposedly saves people from jumping to their deaths is near her? (Wow, that’s a mouthful.) However, as the story dragged on, my interest waned. I just wasn’t interested in the way that THIS author presented the “back and forth” timeline, which is odd, given that I usually love that text structure.
I always enjoy Sally Hepworth novels, and this one was no different. I thought the discussion of mental illness was handled well. A good book!
Overall this was a pretty good read but a bit......boring? Everything wrapped up neatly in the end, but I found myself not really caring how it would end. I did enjoy rhe twist. At times, the 2 couples seemed a bit too similar and I found myself mixing them up a bit. Good pacing, unique story, but not my favorite by this author. Thank you to NetGalley for this advance copy!
I WAS AMAZED at this book! Like holy crap this was great. I was hooked from every line, and it kept me glued to my seat.
Thank-you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Once I began reading it, I couldn't put it down and since it's not long, this would be a perfect airplane book, or weekend by the pool read. Gabe and Pippa with their two young girls live in a cliff top house overlooking the sea near Melbourne. Sadly many people have jumped to their death from the cliffs within sight of the house, and Gabe has actually rescued some people from plunging. But when the story opens, Gabe has gone out once again to speak to a woman who has appeared on the cliff. She does jump to her death, or so he says.......Pippa is not so sure..The story is told by two narrators: Pippa and another character who I won't name, and they go back and forth between the present and previous timelines. As the story unfolds, and we learn more about each character, it is very hard to discern who is telling the truth about anything, and therefore, who do we trust?
I did not feel engaged with any of the characters and that is the main reason for my 3 star rating. The plot was interesting although somewhat predictable. I realize I am in the minority with my thoughts, but I will summarize by saying this a good story - and I know a lot of people will pick this up as a captivating quick read.
REVIEW DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS!
First of all, thank you so much NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this book, I’m forever honoured to be among the people who have the joy of reading a new release sooner than the specific release date!
This book was everything! Loved it so so very much. From the beginning to the end, this page turner gripped me. The fact that the story started from the present situation with Pippa’s pov- at the Spot with Amanda- then changes the pov to her- when something happens…no spoilers- and then we have the entire background situation with Max and Amanda, Pippa and Gabe, it just felt so satisfying reading the book in an order with a clever written ending. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone cause it was so fun and clever to me and I didn’t see that coming.
Reread the first sentence of my second paragraph: This book was everything. It was, it really was. It wasn’t just a thriller or a mystery book…it was a book about family, about friendship, about marriage. It talked so much about trust and love in different ways that I loved it so much. How Max and Amanda love each other without ever saying it verbally, but with their very actions. They protected each other and did everything they could to keep each other happy and safe. How Pippa and Gabe loved each other as well. Pippa did literally everything to help Gabe heal himself and get better. But what she did not understand is that sometimes, you need to detach yourself from some people, even if you deeply love them with your whole heart, because you have and need to look at life thru y.o.u.r own eyes…not always from the eyes of your significant other. This book also portrayed the love of a mother. How Pippa’s mom was always there for her without even questioning why and how Pippa loves her own children, even thought one isn’t biologically hers. She treated them equally with all of her love and all of their needs as a child and I respect and love her for that. The part where she ran as fastest as she ever did to get to them…still have goosebumps.
Anyways, this review is getting so very long and I still can continue writing about this wonderful book but I’m sure everyone is sleeping on my review by now…But I hope that everyone who read this book will love it, as I did.
I think this is the author’s most impressive book so far. It’s eerie from the start with page after page of two seemingly perfect relationships told from the POV of the wives. You know things will turn, but just how/when is surprising. TW for lots of mental illness throughout the book: bipolar disorder and suicide. The twist at the end was unexpected. A quick, compulsive read; just know it’s pretty heavy, and as you realize what’s going on it’s sad and doesn’t ever lighten up.
Thanks #StMartinsPress and #NetGalley for the ARC e-book.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
I could not put this book down once I finally had a few moments to myself to start it! Twisted story with duel POV. I didn’t know who to trust & I am still questioning my memories of Gabe & Pippa.
Sally Hepworth never disappoints! I receive an ARC copy of "The Soulmate" and I couldn't put it down. This book starts off with the action right away while also providing all the necessary information the reader needs to know to understand how each character relates to each other.
This book starts off with Pippa and Gabe and what their life is like living on the house by "The Spot," which a chosen spot for those wanting to end their life. Gabe is a local superhero by helping many people not jump off the cliffside, until one day someone does fall from the spot and dies.
The person that passed away is a lady named Amanda, who happens to be Gabe's boss' wife, except Gabe denies knowing that it was her since the outside conditions were not ideal to get a good glance of who the woman was. Pippa sees all of this from inside the house, but it doesn't quite align with what Gabe tells the police and investigators.
What is Gabe hiding? How far will Pippa go to help Gabe out?
This was amazing! From the cover to the last word, this book was really good. I don't want to give a lot away, but the plot twists were superb. This is a book you can't put down because you wont stop thinking about it. It's important to mention that Hepworth puts a great deal of time in her writing research, while incorporating personal experiences in her stories. A good example of this is the relationship between "Pippa and Gabe" and the daughters, you read it and know the author has children and is a present parent. I could totally relate to the daily routines and every detail explained in the story to make it believable. I also enjoyed the different POV presented in the story, alternating between two main characters with different timelines, giving the reader a multidimensional view of what's happening. In The Soulmate you'll find love, a look into different types of relationships, and the ups and downs in every family.
I would totally recommend this book!!!
What a fantastic read!! What started as a seemingly normal family drama was actually a twisty ride with a suprise ending. Whenever I assumed I knew where the story was heading, I was met with an unexpected revelation. I also really enjoyed the change in narrator throughout the story, which let the reader in on information that kept me glued to the book.
Gripping and unputdownable, Sally Hepworth did it again. This might be my new favorite. Her books are so engaging and every chapter makes you want to read another. There was such profound way of her showing the two marriages and what characters choices did that affected their marriages. In the end it was about choices in this book and how they can change your life for the good or devastate a marriage. There was some twists and turns done in true Sally style that at the end I was blown away how it all tied together. I see this being a very popular book when it releases. Well done Sally and thanks for another book that I absolutely couldn't put down. If you have not read anything by her make sure you pick something up immediately. The mystery element was perfect and I also really enjoyed the viewpoint on mental health.
Thank you to Sally and to Netgalley for the opportunity to review in exchange for an honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book! Below is my honest review.
Bear with me for this is my first Sally Hepworth book (I know, I'm sorry!).
Summary of the plot:
Pippa and Gabe, with their two daughters, live in Cliffside Cottage, which is pretty close to a cliff--notorious for suicides. Gabe made it his mission to talk people from jumping, and is successful most of the time. Until now. Pippa notices a woman standing at the cliff, and Gabe, as he always does, goes to talk to her. However, she ends up jumping, and Pippa catches Gabe in a suspicious position that would indicate he pushed her. The woman's death is deemed a suicide, but Pippa starts to think otherwise... Read this book to find out what happened!
Thoughts on this book:
Overall, I thought this was an okay book. I think the author's writing style is just not for me. Every character kind of sounded the same, especially between the two main narrators. Also, I'm sure there were easter eggs throughout the book, but I didn't catch any (I'm also a noob when it comes to mystery novels).
I did, however, enjoy the multiple perspectives and timelines, the familial aspects, discussion about mental illness (and therefore how to deal with it yourself or as a loved one), and even learning abouts wills! The ending also kind of made sense and was satisifying enough, though it felt a little rushed to me.
Would I recommend this book? Meh.
The Soulmate was a really twisty read. I appreciated the back and forth storytelling through the two wives. I felt the characters could have been developed a little more, I understood the action without really understanding the why. But that ending, it made the book for me. I loved it.
Another great book from Sally Hepworth! It was a page-turner; I did not want to put it down! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
The Soulmate, what a fast paced, page turning, thrilling ride. Pippa and Gabe move to a Cliffside Cottage in a quaint town believing it the perfect place to settle down and raise their daughters. After the fact they find out the Cliff by their home is a notorious for suicide attempts. Gabe gains notoriety for his ability to talk people out of jumping, but trouble ensues when someone he knows comes to the cliff sides edge.
In true Sally Hepworth form this story is told through multiple perspectives and timelines with tension, and Easter eggs that buildup to reveal a thrilling twist. This is a book that you will not be able to put down or guess the ending.
I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a book to take them on a ride and keep you guessing. One you will not be able to put down til you get to the end.
I received a free copy of this ebook via NetGalley.
I didn't have high hopes for this one (I thought that The Younger Wife was boring), and I was pleasantly surprised! Hepworth creates a story that's complicated and nuanced. There was still suspense, but it did not rely on the suspense to move the plot forward. The characters and their relationships were really the driving forces.
I enjoyed Max and Amanda's story more, even though it had less action. Pippa was just harder to love because of her obsession with Gabe... but I still understood it. It was believable, even though I was screaming at the doctors to diagnose him correctly. I love the After chapters of Amanda and that ending... so poignant!
Sally Hepworth's books are always a must read for me each year, so I was super excited to get an ARC of The Soulmate. Like all of her books, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how she parcels out enough details and mystery to heighten the suspense. The Soulmate is another solid read of hers. I read this at the beach where I could hear waves and water which made it so easy to envision the house on the cliff and the drop. Gabe and Pippa were engaging characters. The ending, while not wholly shocking, was different than I expected. I liked having Pippa's family members as an additional cast of characters in the story and how they were threaded throughout.
A married couple moves to a dreamlike place next to a cliff but little do they know that that’s where people go to commit suicide…Gabe has convinced several to not find their end at the bottom of that cliff until one day… Pippa sees Gave stretching his arms in front of it and she goes to talk to him and realizes a girl has just plummeted to her death and they’re both distraught. The thing is… they both knew that woman. Throughout the novel, we get Pippa’s perspective along with the perspective of the dead girl, Amanda, who tells readers that she did not go to the cliff unlike others to die. So many questions… did Amanda know Gabe? Was there an affair? What are their secrets and where will it all lead… a truly gripping novel.
