This was a pretty average thriller/mystery. Nothing really stood out as exceptional but it was a quick and entertaining read. There were some twists I didn't anticipate but some that were glaringly obvious the whole time. Overall I think most people would enjoy this book.
This was such a fun ride! God bless short chapters with alternating POV, it made me want to never stop reading. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this.
Sally Hepworth is an auto read for me. I love her writing and her addictive, page turning thrillers. The Soulmate was no exception. I enjoyed the book very much, with one LARGE exception. I am a mental health professional and it was obvious to me where that particular thread was going. It was so drawn out and the mistaken diagnosis seemed implausible, although necessary for the story. They aside, I definitely recommend this book.
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is my second book by Sally Hepworth and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. This author has a great writing style. I love the short chapters, the “then and now” chapters, and how it switched between Pippa’s and Amanda’s perspectives. This book truly kept my interest from beginning to end. I made guesses but to be honest, I did NOT predict the ending at all and was mostly pleased with how it all wrapped up. I mean, there were parts of the ending that saddened me deeply and I didn’t think it ended “fairly” for certain characters but I can’t explain without spoilers so I’ll just leave it at that.
As far as characters, I like Amanda the best. Normally I’m not a fan of “ghosts” in books but I really enjoyed the “Amanda (after)” chapters. Pippa, I liked her on and off throughout the book. Definitely more OFF though, which is why this was 4 stars for me and it just couldn’t quite hit 5. I feel like Pippa forgiving Gabe all the time and all the comments about how attractive he was, was just dumb. Max I really liked but Gabe I did not. I really wanted to like Gabe in the beginning but as the book went on, I just didn’t feel any connection to him. Even at the end I still didn’t like him.
Overall, I have determined that I really enjoy this author’s writing. I’ve had The Mother-in-Law sitting on my bookshelf for quite awhile now and I think I need to bump it up on my list and read it soon.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. This book comes out in April of 2023 and I highly recommend picking up a copy.

I very much enjoyed this book. While I liked Hepworth’s previous novel, The Younger Wife, I thought this one was much better. It employs two narrators each of whom tell their story in two timelines, before and after and then and now. The choice of one of the narrators allows the story to unfold in a particularly engaging way.
The story revolves around a woman who dies on a cliff. Did she commit suicide, was it an accident or was she pushed? And who is she exactly? I’ll refrain from too many details to avoid spoilers, but it’s a great fun read that this breezy and fast paced without feeling rushed.
I loved, loved this book!
It's a combo romamanxe, famiky drama and thriller all in one.
Pippa and Gabe have a chance RomCom meet cute and after that their lives appear to be perfect, gorgeous husband, 2 successful careers, beautiful children and expensive beach house.
But then there's an 'incident' at their beach house involving a stranger and the deeper story emerges.
Story is told in a then and now format but is easy to follow the back and forth.
Thankful sbd blessed to have received this ARC from the author and publisher.
Sally Hepworth doesn’t disappoint. Her newest book, The Soulmate, is the thriller you are looking for if this is your go-to genre. The book begins with a picture perfect family, but as is standard in a Hepworth storyline, not all is what it seems. Told from dual points of view, this book will leave you guessing until the end.
Sally Hepworth has written an interesting novel, filled with twists, lies and deception.
Gabe and Pippa live in a house overlooking the sea, with beautiful views and treacherous cliffs. The Drop, a dangerously scenic spot, is next to their property. On more than one occasion, Gabe has been responsible for talking down a possible suicide victim about to jump.
However, this time, he’s not successful.
Did the woman jump, or did Gabe push her off the deadly cliff?
Thus, the story unfolds, from both Pippa’s and the dead woman, Amanda’s, points of view.
I gave this book 4 stars, because at times it was confusing while transitioning between the women’s narratives and time periods.
I enjoyed the story. It flowed well and was entertaining.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy of this book.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
First thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for my ARC copy of this read.
Synopsis:

The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.
When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?
And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel….
Now Wow. I really enjoyed this one guys and ALL the twists! This was not at all what I was expecting. Did not really see the end coming..
Loved the multiple POV’s and alternate timelines of past and future between Pippa and Amanda to bring it all together. Gabe and Max what a mystery! 👀
The quick short chapters made this read a breeze. And I read them all through the the past few nights!
And is Sally. Freaking. Hepworth. Enough said! Can’t wait to read what’s next!
If you have read The Good Sister by @sallyhepworth I know you’ll like this one too! If it’s your first read by her be on the lookout for it!
Coming to shelves April 4, 2023! And as always happy reading! 💕
Sally Hepworth has done it again! I appsolutly love all the novels I have read from this author. The soul mate did not disappoint. I found myself not wanting to put it down. I loved the characters and setting! Once again a great book.
I’ve read and will continue to read all of Sally Hempworth’s books. While this wasn’t my favorite of the bunch, that still goes to The Good Sister and Mother in Law, it was easy to binge, clearly written and full of family drama, secrets and lies. I loved the dual narratives, past and present timelines and short chapters, which tactically built suspense and left bread crumbs that kept me guessing and questioning my predictions. I will say that I found the ending a bit anticlimactic, and I wasn’t as shocked by it all as other reviewers. Still, I was never bored!
Read if you like:
-Domestic suspense
-Short chapters
-Ghost figures
-Coastal Australia setting
-Couple keeping secrets trope
Thanks SMP for the ARC! Pub date 4/4
I loved this book! It hooked me right from the start, and I stayed up past my bedtime several nights because I didn’t want to stop reading. I wish I could read it for the first time all over again. Thank you for the advanced copy!
I liked this book! Very fast paced, good characters, easy to read! Suspenseful and surprising twists!
4.5 stars, rounded up.
Y’all, I couldn’t put this book down. It was so twisty and fast paced.
This book alternates perspectives between Pippa and Amanda, then and now. This domestic thriller really highlighted the love the two wives had for their husbands, and the sacrifices they made in their relationships.
I can’t write a review without spoiling it, but seriously, read this one! It was fun.
Also can we talk about the cover?? 😍 I’m obsessed. Will definitely want a physical copy for my shelf once it is released.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley, and Sally Hepworth for the chance to read this e-ARC. What a ride!
Absolutely loved this. The alternating points of view told in both past and present made this particularly interesting, and I stayed up way too late reading. Highly recommend if you like thrillers with excellent character development.
5 top-notch stars
Sally Hepworth has cemented herself as one of my favorite authors. Her books deliver time after time! She creates characters that are memorable and realistic, and the pacing is terrific. She doles out pieces of the story through different narrators and timelines and it makes for a top-notch read!
There are two sets of couples in this one – Pippa and Gabe – married with two children – and we get to know them through past and present chapters. They live in a house outside of Melbourne with a gorgeous but tragic view. Known as “The Drop” it has attracted far too many people with suicidal thoughts. Gabe has become well-known as he has talked seven people to safety. Until one night when he is unsuccessful. And Pippa isn’t sure he’s telling the full truth.
Amanda and Max are the other couple in the book. Max is a powerful successful businessman and Amanda is his wife. Max has a tragic family history of suicide and has leveraged his success into raising money for mental health. I loved the unique point of view chapters from Amanda throughout the book.
As we get more of the history of Pippa and Gabe, it becomes clear that they have many struggles in their marriage. Pippa has stood by Gabe many times in the past and I wondered how many more times she could do this. I rooted for them as a couple, but it was easy to see the toll that events take on Pippa.
Filled with intrigue and secrets, the author spins a tale that kept me engaged and glued to the pages. The ending was perfect, and she managed to not make it a dramatic over-the-top finale. Kudos to Sally Hepworth! This is a favorite read of mine for 2022.
This will probably be a popular book at its release. But having lost my own brother to suicide by jumping off a bridge due to mental illness this whole book just rubbed me wrong. Kind of felt like it was trying to sensationalize mental illness and suicide
Whoa! Tragic love stories explained with Hepworth’s signature dark sense of humor make this a must-read! Lots of unexpected twists and turns will keep you riveted! The ending had me screaming! Well done, Sally Hepworth.
