"There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t."
An unconventional murderous love story. Sally Hepworth is so dang talented. Admittedly this was slow to start but the character development and twisty turns got reeeal good and I couldn't put this one down. I love the integration of mental health and thought the author did a stellar job or portraying Gabe's mental illness. A solid mystery for sure - I'll be reading whatever Sally Hepworth writes in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for the ARC - I loved it.
WOW. I finished The Soulmate last night and I’m still reeling. This is probably the fastest I’ve finished a book in a LONG time. This is my second Sally Hepworth book and I’ve loved both! The Soulmate was fast paced and legit unputdownable.
The one to six minute chapters? PERFECT. The first chapter? Amazing. The alternating POVs and timelines? Fantastic. I’ll be honest and say that I’m not an avid mystery/thriller reader. This is mostly because I find I’m often disappointed by the end of the book, usually because the build up to find out “who dunnit” is way more exciting than actually finding out who did it? BUT The Soulmate fully delivered from beginning to end.
Hepworth’s writing style is so easy to read and makes you never want to put the book down. I freaking loved how she portrayed the characters at the beginning and then how it all unfolds. Just realizing now how difficult it is to write a review for a mystery/thriller without giving anything away. Suffice it to say I loved this book so much and would highly recommend even for those skeptical mystery/thriller readers (like myself).
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This authors books seem to get better and better for me. I stumbled onto her books a few years ago with The Mother-in-law… I have continued to read her and enjoyed each story but this one seems to be my favorite so far. While I love a good mystery the twists in this book proved that I don’t always figure it out. I can’t wait to read her Amazon Original short stories now.
This was a page turner! I’m a big Sally Hepworth fan and I was thrilled receive this advanced copy of The Soulmate. It was a 5/5 for me!
Pippa and Gabe bought a house with this incredible view of the sea and steep cliff. They were surprised the first time to find a stranger on the edge of that cliff, and to discover this was a well known suicide spot.
It becomes a bit of a routine to call the police anytime they see someone out there. Gabe has taken on the role of talking to them and helping them to step away from the cliff while the police are on their way. He has been able to save a lot of lives this way. Until a woman suddenly takes a fall.
The police ask Pippa if she remembers anything, and she doesn’t mention that when she looked up just after the woman fell, she saw her husband’s outstretched arms, as if he had pushed her over the cliff.
This book will be out on April 4th, 2023. Add it to your list!

Wow. I haven’t read a Sally Hepworth book I haven’t loved and this one is no different. Twists and turns that kept me on my toes, second guessing what’s going to happen and who did what to whom….and husbands who have secrets, mental illnesses, and imperfections, mixed with infidelity and murder? Ugh what a combination! Read this one in less than 24 hours, I couldn't put it down! Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. 10/10 would recommend!
Gabe and Phipps have a love that most people envy; their way with one another and the wholeness they feel when they are together. They seem too good to be true and Pippa knows that without Gabe her world would lack colour, joy and perhaps purpose. She loves him so. Gabe is charming, enigmatic and let’s people feel like when his attention is on you you are the only one present. He’s like the sun.
After buying a beautiful home that backs onto a tall cliff the couple soon realize that it is a popular spot for people to commit suicide. But when Gabe uses his persuasive magic on would be jumpers he is able to talk all of the individuals back to safety. Even the local paper has written a story on what a hero he is with his ability to talk people out of following through with the act of suicide. In short, Gabe has many gifts: charm, patience, talent at work, not to mention he is a caring father and loving husband to Pippa.
But Gabe Pippa realizes has another side to him as well. At times he’s perfect and so upbeat with boundless energy. At others, he is morose, and requires a lot of rest and Pippa can’t feel whole until sunny Gabe returns to her.
One evening Pippa and Gabe notice yet another woman at the cliff. As Pippa now familiar with this routine calls the police, Gabe heads out to speak to the woman. But as Pippa looks up she swears she sees what looks like Gabe pushing the woman to her death. Is this woman known to him? Why would he do such a thing. Pippa begins to doubt what she’s seen and knows there must be a plausible explanation to what happened.
As the investigation begins Pippa soon realizes through Gabe that the woman is in fact known to them. She is the wife to a mogul businessman who also happens to be Gabe’s ex employer. Perhaps what Pippa saw is not so implausible after all. The question however is why?
Told from the POV of Pippa and the woman on the cliff in a time sequence of “before” and “now” Sally Hepworth creates the perfect combination that tells the story of what really happened that night and everything that led up to it.
A book with a shocking twist that will have readers hooked! Another great novel.
Sally Hepworth is a fantastic author and I always look forward to her books.
The Soulmate is a very exciting domestic thriller. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, there’s good twists and turns that will keep you turning pages!
The author does a great job with character development and the characters are all quite likable. Honestly, I couldn’t decide who I was rooting for the most because I liked every character!
The book is told in alternating POV from Amanda and Pippa with alternating time lines of before and now. I love books that develop this way because it keeps the story fresh. Short chapters also so the book is a quick read.
Overall, 5 stars from me!
I received a free advanced reader copy from #NetGalley and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
This was such a great thriller! I read it in one day because the quick, short chapters and twists and turns kept me saying “just one more chapter!” It is very hard to put down so make sure you have some time carved out when you start this one!
I really enjoyed that it was told from 2 different POV, Pippa and Amanda. Each tells the story from their current POV and past and each narrative adds to the story and makes me curious what is going to happen next. It was very engaging and kept me intrigued until the end.
I would have liked a little more resolution at the end but overall really enjoyed this one! I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book! Holy plot twists, I could not put this down!! I absolutely loved Pippa’s character and how the story and timeline was told in duel POV’s. I absolutely loved this book.
This book had my attention from the first page and I couldn't stop reading. It's a very twisty book with an ending that you won't see coming. Sally Hepworth is an amazing writer that keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing right up to the final page. You can feel the emotion in every word and it almost feels like you're standing at The Drop each time it's mentioned, it also makes you wonder why anyone would ever want to purchase a home with a cliff in their backyard.
Pippa is a very patient wife to Gabe. Freya and Asha are two little spitfires. Amanda and Max have a very strange relationship to say the least and it's sad that one would sacrifice their own life's wants and dreams just because of the past, but at the same time I get it.
Secrets, lies, infidelity, criminal behavior in the workplace, mental illness are what make this story so intriguing and powerful. My heart breaks for families that have mental health issues. I'm sure there's not a family out there that hasn't been affected in some way by mental health issues, but to see it represented so accurately in a novel just makes you realize how deeply people can hurt, whether it's in private or everyone knows, or even undiagnosed.
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
I appreciate that there was some effort made to not have mental illness be used as a gotcha like it often is in thrillers. I found that some of the ending seemed a bit obvious but there were also some good reveals. The timeline of the book kept me engaged and I made it through the book fairly quickly. Overall I enjoyed this read.
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! Whether you've read all of Hepworth's books or you haven't taken the plunge yet, pre-order this book! I'm speechless!
I've had a few of Hepworth's other books on my radar but never had a chance to read them so this is my first book by her. I'm absolutely blown away! (Begins finding all her other books to move up in the TBR pile)
This book fit my definition of psychological thriller- intricate pieces to the puzzle, twists sprinkled throughout, and diving into the depths of a person and their relationships. Bonus- short chapters, which I LOVE with my thrillers. I fly through the book when the chapters are shorter.
This book follows two couples (Amanda & Max and Gabe & Pippa) and it all starts with a "famous" place for people looking to end their lives- The Drop.
From there, Hepworth does an amazing job intricately bringing you through the depths of both couples and what really happened between Gabe and Amanda at The Drop. I don't want to share too much because I don't want to give anything away. All I know is that this blew my expectations out of the water.
Perfect for fans: Paula Hawkins (The Woman on the Train), Rachel Hawkins (Reckless Girls), AJ Finn (The Woman in the Window), Ashley Audrain (The Push), psychological thrillers, intricate puzzle with the plot, popcorn thrillers (short punchy chapters)
Sally Hepworth has done it again, creating another masterpiece with suspenseful twists and a completely unexpected ending. The Soulmate is the story of Pippa and Gabe, a seemingly perfect couple with two daughters and a beautiful house on the water. Their view is of a cliff where several people have committed suicide, and Gabe has made it his mission to save anyone who comes there to jump. He is successful in saving a handful of troubled souls until a mysterious woman arrives and jumps as he and Pippa - watching from the window- watch in horror.
Who was this woman and what was her connection to Pippa and Gabe? As the police struggle to uncover what events led up to this suicide, secrets are revealed and loyalties are tested. This is Sally Hepworth at her very best.
HOLY S*#! I am just left SHOCKED over this book.
Wow- this book got me early on! I read it so fast because I had to know what happened! I loved the two POVs that we got to see. I do think I would have loved to see Max’s POV too..
Man my heart hurt for all of the characters.. Amanda not knowing the truth.. Pippa and all that she had to deal with for Gabe.. Max and all of the death he had to deal with in life.
So many twists and I would have NEVER seen that ending coming. Wheww..
I’m sooo glad I got to read it early! I cannot wait for the rest of the world to read it and hear your thoughts!!! Go put this on your TBR and be ready for April 2023!!
I’m so grateful for Sally Hepworth, St Martins Press and NetGalley for putting this out there and allowing readers to access it early!
Holy wow! I finished this book in 2 days! I loved it. Everything about it and the ending was like, WOAH! Didn't see that coming. 5 star read for me!!

Book & eARC Review
In this dual POV-dual timeline thriller, we meet Pippa and Amanda.
Pippa, a will and estate lawyer, lives with her husband and daughters in a sleepy coastal town in Australia. Their cottage, which rests on the edge of a cliff, has picturesque views but also attracts those wishing to end their lives. Consistently, Gabe, Pippa’s husband, has been able to talk people down from jumping off the cliff — until one night.
Amanda, the victim, is the wife of media mogul, Max. In the dual timelines, we see Amanda’s life leading up to that night on the cliff, as well as what happens after.
When it comes to light that Gabe knew Amanda, Pippa begins to question everything — what she saw that night, her marriage with Gabe, and her own past decisions.

What a thrilling read! This novel really sucked me in. It was my first by Sally Hepworth and I cannot wait to pick up her others now!
I really enjoyed the dual POVs and timelines in this one. It kept me on my toes and guessing what was going to happen next. The setting was also perfect and how Hepworth wrote it, I could picture it all so well in my mind.
There were a lot of characters to keep straight, especially with the dual timelines and POVs, but it wasn’t unmanageable.
I definitely will be getting a physical copy of this upon official release!
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Sally Hepworth for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Absolutely loved it!! Sally Hepworth writes the best domestic suspense! I always love her characters and the writing completely draws me in. This one was no exception. Just like all her others, I couldn’t put it down and it’s one that I will not soon forget.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of The Soulmate. Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors and this book didn't disappoint. The story follows Pippa and Gabe, a couple who live close to an area with a cliff that is known to be a popular spot to those who want to end their lives. Gabe has become a local celebrity as he has been able to save 7 people so far from jumping. Unfortunately his luck runs out when a woman comes to the spot and falls to her death. What transpires is not expected as the woman was not a stranger and there is much more to how she came to be at that spot that night. Full of twists and I enjoyed how the book went back in forth in time and followed Pippa and the now deceased Amanda before and after. I would definitely recommend.
This is a fast paced domestic thriller. I read it within one day. The time jumps were a bit confusing at first but then once I got to know the characters it was easy to follow. I felt that the title didn’t really fit the book but I enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down because I really wanted to know what was going to happen. The ending pieced it all together nicely.
Love a good domestic suspense story and this one I couldn’t put down.
Perfectly paced reveals that kept me from putting this down and reading it within a day of receiving it.
My second time reading a Sally Hepworth book and running to grab the others I haven’t read.
