Wow. This book was so intriguing, I couldn’t put it down. Loved the story arc and how it all fit together in the end and of course, it had quite a few nuggets of gold about marriage and humanity. Loved it! And would recommend it highly!
Thanks to Netgalley & St. Martin's Press, I received an advanced reader's copy of this fantastic work of art by Sally Hepworth. You will feel for each character, cry when they cry and be enraged when they are angry, and fall apart along with them. The twist made my heart drop! Excellent, phenomenal book; get in line for this one!
I read this book while on a cruise ship sailing the coast of Ireland. I needed something that would really hold my attention and this story did the trick. It does make you question what you believe about the person closest to you - your spouse. Are they really what you think they are? Have you been making excuses for them and covering for mental disorders/personality traits that everyone else but you seems to know about. I would highly recommend you read this book. It will definitely make you think.
Thanks to NetGalley and St.Martin's press for this advanced eARC. Sally Hepworth is such a good writer. As she writes more books, the book just get better and better. This is such a read between the lines book to me. Thrillers is my genre of choice and because I do not want to spoil the book, I can only suggest you read it. Read it as soon as you. can. Haha. The book is. very fast paced and has very short chapters. This could easily be read in one or two sittings.
Sally Hepworth is amazing! I think The Soulmate has replaced The Good Sister as my Hepworth favorite (but I'm still working on reading all her books). I loved the characters and their relationships. The story was so twisty, it kept me hooked and guessing from start to finish. I devoured this in a day even though I had lots of other things I needed to be doing.

Pippa and Gabe Gerard live in a cottage by a steep cliff with their 4-year-old daughters Asha and Freya. They are cleaning the dishes after dinner when Pippa spots a woman lingering close to the cliff’s edge. Gab grabs his coat and starts to go out to help her and tells Pippa to call the police. It’s not the first time Gabe has talked someone away from jumping to their death. But this time is different: She jumps. Or did Gabe push her? Pippa notices his arms are straight out with hands up as though he could have. But would her husband do that? And, who was this woman? Pippa lies to the police; says she saw nothing besides what Gabe told them.
And so begins the story of two couples entwined in each other’s lives. The book is a fast page-turner, with short chapters narrated by Pippa (in times labeled now and then) and Amanda (the woman on the cliff) (in times labeled before and after). The book is so good, I don’t want to tell you anymore, but if you like psychological thrillers with a dash of infidelity, mental illness, and suicide, this is a must-read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A murder/suicide mystery involving two marriages. In reading the alternating viewpoints of both wives, we are transported back and forth in time. As the story slowly unfolds, there is one overriding question. Are their respective husbands bad people, or simply flawed men who are still very much worth loving?
A Sally Hepworth book rarely disappoints. Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for letting me once again enjoy the work of this talented writer.
Pippa and Gabe along with their two kids appear to be the person family. Gabe is a stay at home dad while Pipa is a lawyer. After recently moving homes where they overlook a cliff they have come to find it’s also a place people go to commit suicide. However, Gabe has been a hero and has been able to convince many of the would be jumpers not to jump. That it until one night a woman appears ready to jump and Gabe goes into action however this time he fails. Gabe is distraught not just because he failed but because he knows the jumper. The police are now asking questions and things may not be as they seem.
This is another absolute gem of a read by the author. It’s the third one of hers that I’ve read and I’ve loved them all. Sally Hepworth is an automatic read for me as her stories are just amazing from start to finish. I really loved the quick paced and short chapters of this book. The book is told from the POV of Pippa as well as the woman who jumped. The storylines interchange between each of the narrators and between the past and the present. I couldn’t put this one down and certainly did not predict how the story would end. This is a must read for everyone and is a definite five star read for me.
Love this book! Had my attention from the beginning and kept me wanting to keep reading to find out what happened. Love the twists and the different point of views !
What is destined to become one of the most anticipated reads of 2023, Sally Hepworth is back!
This is my 3rd book by Hepworth. The Good Sister (4⭐️) and The Younger Wife (3⭐️) were my first two reads.
This was 💯 one of those just one more chapter type of books. A quick read, with short chapters.
However, something happened at the 45% mark that started to derail the train for me. It just didn't work. Things did start to pick back up, but never quite reached 💯.
Dual timelines, multiple points of view, some from the living, some not so much. I thought Hepworth did a good job of making this reader friendly, as we all know this can oftentimes lead to confusion or liking one storyline more than the other.
I found the female characters to display a stereotypical naivete that drove me nuts and some parts of the story were a bit too convenient for me.
I thought about this one overnight as I just wasn't sure what to rate it.
I liked it more than The Younger Wife, but less than The Good Sister, so we shall meet in the middle.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded up)
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press the ARC!
I'll forever read whatever Sally Hepworth puts out.
I was super excited to receive an advanced copy of Sally Hepworth's The Soulmate. In the story Pippa and her husband Gabe live in a house near The Cliff where people have jumped to their deaths.
Gabe has saved several people from dying but one night a woman jumps to her death, but what Pippa saw leads her to question the death and Gabe.
At the start I was excited to see where each part of the story would take me; however, by the half way point I didn't really care. The characters seemed one dimensional and there weren't any that I particularly cared for. At the end there is an obvious twist which even though this is a work of fiction, caused me to roll my eyes.
While I did receive an advanced copy from NetGalley, these opinions are my own.
4.5
I was completely, 100% swept into this book from the beginning and it never let me go. It isn't creepy, it isn't even particularly "thriller ish", and yet I couldn't get it out of my mind. What a super fantastic book!
Was a very different read .. was very interesting how it all played out in the end ….
I do not care for bad language 😞 but the book was interesting enough
In The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth coming out in April of 2023, Pippa and Gabe Gerard are starting over in a coastal town outside of Melbourne. Gabe has been dealing with mental illness, and Pippa is dealing with the fallout of an affair. Gabe will become the caretaker of their two little girls, while Pippa will work from home as a wills and estates lawyer.
Gabe fell in love with their new house while the terrain is worrisome to Pippa. Right behind their house is a steep edge that has been dubbed the Drop, and more than a few people have ended their lives jumping from it. The first time it happens once the Gerards move there, Gabe is able to talk a person down, and he is soon doing this more and more, rescuing a number of people. He’s been dubbed a local hero in the newspaper.
But one night when a woman comes to the Drop, Gabe fails to talk her out of leaping while Pippa watches from a window. The woman soon disappears over the cliff and is killed. Gabe claims not to recognize the woman although he worked for her husband Max Cameron back in Melbourne before being fired. When the police investigation connects the dots, will Gabe be considered a person of interest in Amanda’s death?
Once the body is identified, Pippa does not understand why Gabe lied, saying he didn’t know the woman at the Drop. Why would Amanda have been at this particular spot if she had not planned to commit suicide? Did Amanda jump, fall, or get pushed from the cliff? The closer Pippa gets to the truth, the more their lives start to unravel.
Sally Hepworth fans will be expecting a twist, and what a twist it is…readers will never see it coming. Hepworth is the bestselling author of seven novels including The Younger Wife and The Good Sister. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her family.
My review will be posted on Goodreads starting September 2, 2022.
I would like to thank St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.
I've read all of Sally Hepworth's books and loved each one. She has a unique style with a fun sense of humor. The Soulmate was terrific!
It's told from the POV of Pippa and Amanda. Two women who have married their soulmates. They are also two women who have different ideas of just how far one can and should go to protect their soulmate. The timeline goes back and forth between before Amanda has a tragic accident(?) on the cliff behind Pippa's house and after. Amanda's storyline was my favorite of the two. Marriage and murder are the theme and it is brilliantly executed here.
I really enjoyed this book and am grateful to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Sally Hepworth for an early copy. This is my unbiased review.

Another home run by Sally Hepworth. Easy 4 stars. Although I found the ending a little anticlimactic I could not put this book down. The secrets and little twists that were revealed throughout the book kept it so engaging.
Pippa and her husband Gabe live near “the drop” a place where many people come to vomit suicide although Gabe seems to be able to talk most of them down, except Amanda. Pippa thinks something was different about this one, from the way Gabe behaves to what she notified when she looked out at them. From there go back and forth between past and present to find out what led up to that moment Amanda jumped and what really happened.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I read The Soulmate over two days; it was compulsively readable and I just needed to know what was going to be revealed next! The plot was wildly interesting. I’m still not quite sure how it worked, but I remained reading until I finished this.
Implausible but mostly passable for my suspension of disbelief (I am notoriously difficult to please regarding mysteries and thrillers. Reality in a story is very important to me as a painfully literal person).
I enjoyed and recommend this one.
I really enjoyed this book! Starting from the outside, the cover and title automatically caught my eye. I could not put this book down, any free time I had I was reading. It caught my attention from the very beginning and held it all the way til the end. The different POVs with the different time lines meshed well and was easy to follow along. The twist and turns kept on coming all throughout the book. I loved how the ending was all tied up and had no loose ends!
The Soulmate is a 2023 release from powerhouse author Sally Hepworth. Set in Australia, the story follows Gabe and Pippa's marriage and the subsequent trials and tribulations they go through... from affairs to murder to suicide and mental illness. It sounds far more complicated than it actually is, but due to the repercussions of not talking to one another or the problems resulting from other people's interference, this couple has had some major obstacles. Told in the past and the present, along with POVs from two different women, there is much to confuse readers who aren't carefully paying attention. In the end, the mystery has merit, but I felt the consequences of one's actions weren't properly balanced. A murderer, albeit accidental, doesn't suffer. A man confesses but the police seem to do nothing. I'm not giving away spoilers as these are all tangential to the main plots... that said, the writing is strong and the pages quickly turned for me. Recommended.

Thanks to Net Galley for the preview copy of this book.
Sally Hepworth has done it again! Pip and Gabe live an idyllic life with their two small children. Gabe’s engaging personality has prevented several people from jumping to their deaths at the cliff behind their home-that is until Amanda shows up. As Pip watches, Gabe attempts to stop Amanda from jumping, but is unsuccessful. So begins the their story-did Gabe have anything to do with Amanda’s death? Has Gabe been honest with the people around him? Is he who everyone thinks he is?
The Soulmate is told from two pints of view; Amanda’s and Pip’s and two time periods; before the incident and after. Both women have a different perspective, but their stories are woven together beautifully by Hepworth.
