I was absolutely DELIGHTED when I received this early review copy of Sally Hepworth’s upcoming novel from @netgalley. Hepworth’s books are so utterly readable and engaging, and this was no different.
First of all: I don’t know what grabbed me first- that arresting cover image (the cliff! the water! those colors!) or the premise. It has all the domestic thriller vibes we have come to expect from Hepworth and she doesn’t disappoint.
This one follows our main characters, Pippa and Gabe, as well as ancillary pair Amanda and Max, starting on the night that Amanda falls from the cliff in Pippa and Gabe’s yard and dies.
And the questions begin: Did she commit suicide? What role does Gabe play in this? And, maybe most importantly, is ANYONE who they seem?!
This novel is filled with twists and turns enough to keep it interesting but also believable- and that’s often a delicate balance in domestic thrillers.
The characters are all kind of unlikable, but all have their secrets and it ain’t over til it’s over. While I might have estimated where the plot was going, I found myself rapidly turning pages to get to the ending - which was not what I was expecting!
I really enjoyed this one and think it’s going to be a hot one when it drops in April 2023. Don’t miss it!
Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for giving me the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.
A little more off the rails, a lot less interesting than others of the author. This was really hard to get into. Regardless, I'll always read a Sally Hepworth. Thank you for the ARC.

Sally Hepworth is back with another twisty domestic thriller coming out in April. I couldn't put this one down!
Gabe and Pippa live in a gorgeous cliffside home which has been the setting for suicide attempts. Gabe is known for being able to save at least 7 people who have attempted to jump. One afternoon his attempt is unsuccessful and Gabe is devastated that he couldn't save her. When the woman's identity becomes known Pippa starts to wonder if Gabe is hiding what really happened before the woman jumped.
I have read many of Sally Hepworth's books and enjoyed them all, and this one is no different. I great mystery/thriller/family drama in a great setting. The ending twist was great and definitely surprised me! Definitely recommend!
I am SO very tired from staying up most of the night reading this book. I've read Sally Hepworth in the past, and this book did not disappoint. This was a wild ride, taking me one way and then another, and then back again. Pippa, her husband and her daughter live along a cliff where several people has come to commit suicide. Gabe, Pippa's husband, had a knack for talking people down, thus saving them. Inevitably, he loses one. Pippa thinks she might've seen something different than Gabe described to the police, and suddenly it seems their lives have been turned upside down. In an interesting twist/manner, we get not only the POV of Pippa, but the dead woman is also brought in for every few chapters. So, so good.

I adore Sally's books. Some more than others and this was just okay for me. I didn't feel the connect with the characters that i usually do when I read her. She is an amazing writer and that always comes through, but this one just fell a bit short for me. I felt like she was trying out a new avenue and it just didn't work for me. I would still recommend all of her books and maybe after her last one-The Good Sister which I absolutely loved, nothing would have satisfied me. Still a sold three star.
This was so addicting, just like all her other books! I could not put it down.
The plot was original and interesting. The characters were well rounded.
I didn’t like the ending very much, but it was fine. The twist was meh.
Overall, a great read!
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is one of those books that hooks you from the very beginning. Family of 4 moves to an oceanside home near "The Drop", a cliff over the ocean with no guardrail where some people go to commit suicide. The husband of the family has saved 7 people from jumping and then one day he encounters a woman at The Drop that he can't save. And just when you think you know where things are going with this story, you absolutely do not and so many of the assumptions you've made are completely not true.
It's a fantastic, twisty ride from that point on that delivers surprises up until the very end! 4 stars from me. I highly recommend!
Many thanks to Sally Hepworth and Netgally for this ARC.
Love this story of a woman who seemingly committed suicide off the edge of a cliff in Australia. However, it comes to light that she had a connection to the people who lived nearby.
Gerard and Pippa are a young couple with two young children. who live near a cliff where people commit suicide. Gerard has been able to convince people not to jump. However, one day there is a jumper. Is it suicide or was she pushed?
This story is full of lies and deceit. It is told from multiple viewpoints and it will draw you in from the beginning. You will find this book hard to put down because you will want to know what is going to happen next. It was an exciting read and I would recommend it. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you to #netgalley, #SallyHepworth, and #StMartinsPress for a copy of this book.

Sally Hepworth knocks it out of the park again. She has absolutely nailed the strong female character who discovers how truly amazing she really is by the end of the book. I was immediately drawn into this book and just when I thought that I had everything figured out, another twist happens, making you say "What just happened? How?" This book will be the first must read of 2023!
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press & Sally Hepworth for the chance to read this fantastic story!
Sally Hepworth doesn’t fail to deliver. I was invested from the first chapter.. The sensitive subject matter of mental health (issues/diagnosis) has been carefully woven into the story. Things really are never as they seem. Well written chapters, believable characters and an original storyline, The Soulmate will have you glued in your favourite reading spot.
Thank You to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley and Sally Hepworth for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

Synopsis: Set in Melbourne, Pippa, Gabe and their two girls have recently moved into a house that is nestled on a cliff side over looking the ocean. It’s pretty darn perfect except for the fact that this particular part of the cliff dubbed “The Spot” is where people go to end their lives. Thankfully Gabe is charismatic and has a way with his words which typically allows him to talk people off the ledge. One day a woman shows up and Gabe isn’t so lucky this time and the woman ends up at the bottom of the cliff. Pippa had looked away just for a moment as her husband talked to this woman and when her gaze returned, his arms were in front of him with his palms facing out and the woman is gone. It later comes out that Gabe knew the woman who died that day and Pippa soon realizes there is more to what Gabe revealed in those last moments cliffside.
Thoughts: This domestic suspense novel will hook you from the start and not let you go until the end. Sally Hepworth always does such a great job at making me read “just one more” chapter until I realize I don’t want to put the book down and am done! I loved the atmosphere of this book and the twists that were scattered throughout. The story is told from two points of view including one from the woman who died cliffside. I loved how the book jumped from “before” and “after”. The main theme and root of this book is loyalty and that loyalty will stop at nothing, even after death. Each character paid the ultimate price for the love they had in their lives. I did not expect the twist at the end! Wow! It was so thrilling to watch each character and their flaws unravel right before my eyes. This one kept me up late at night trying to find out all of the deep dark secrets of each soulmate!
Posted on 8/29 on Goodreads: I don’t know how she does it but Sally Hepworth’s writing cannot be put down. There were multiple plot twists here to keep the book extremely engaging, however some of the twists were slightly predictable. Still highly recommend. Hepworth is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is characterized as a mystery/thriller. This reader found nothing mysterious or thrilling about this novel. There is a death at the beginning of the novel and the plot continues with alternating chapters of certain characters in the present and the past — including the dead person who appears to be aware of what is happening after death.
The book is replete with several sub plots including suicide, infidelities, shady business dealings, family issues, lies and deceit, illegitimate children and mental health issues to mention a few. These issues are somehow all tied together with an ending that can only be described as incredulous.
I thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to its publication.

I could not put this down! I read this in just a couple of days and stayed up until 2 AM to finish it. I love books that really make you want to get into the minds of the characters to figure out what exactly is driving them, what their intentions are, what secrets they may be keeping. And this book does just that. It also makes you realize how far reaching the consequences of telling a lie or giving someone a second chance can be.
I loved the alternating POV and timelines, which slowly unraveled the events leading up to what really happened on the cliff. I think it was a smart choice to use these two characters to tell this story. While some of the twists were pretty obvious, there were enough additional twists to keep the story engaging and interesting. And I did not see that ending coming!
The Soulmate is out April 04, 2023. Make sure to pre-order this one!
Let me start by saying I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I read a lot of books in this genre, so it makes it hard for me to not have that "I saw that coming" or " I just read a book with a somewhat similar storyline" thought, so I was happy to read a book that I couldn't wait to turn the page. Every chapter was a new bombshell!
The story is about a married couple, Gabe and Pippa, that appear to have the perfect life until they don't. I do not want to give anything away, but I guarantee you will be shocked by every new secret uncovered.
The author does such a great job of not giving away any vague hints or references, so when it happens you are truly surprised. Expertly written so that every new chapter makes sense.
I do feel like the crashing ending was rushed, but I'm not sure if that was just because I wasn't ready for it to end. I would love to see a follow up with the point of view from Gabe....
I recommend this book to all lovers of a great thriller book.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
WOW! This was an awesome read. I am a fan of Sally Hepworth but I think this is my favorite book of hers to date. It’s told from two POVs & along two different timelines but it’s no problem to “keep up with”- I know some folks don’t like this style but jot suits me. It also has quite a few surprises that you’ll NEVER see coming. If you’ve enjoyed a Hepworth book before or are interested in psychological suspense, pick this one up!
Sally Hepworth does not disappoint! Constantly wondered who was trustworthy and the secrets and suspense throughout this book made me fly through it. Domestic thriller that makes you wonder who you can really trust- and if your partner really is who they say they are!
Sally Hepworth does it again! This book about a suspicious suicide is grippingly told through two POVs: the woman who died & the wife of the man who was the last one on the cliff with her before she died.
I love when a book has lots of twists but everything comes together & clicks in the end.
This book definitely keeps you guessing and the ending is *chefs kiss*
