The Soulmate is a domestic thriller told from two women’s perspectives. Primary main character is Pippa and secondary main character is Amanda. The timeline shifts between before and after Amanda’s descent from the cliffs. They are both connected in the fact that their husbands were previously work colleagues. Pippa’s husband Gabe worked for Amanda’s husband Max. Throughout the book, I was not sure what to expect or who to suspect. Every time a plot twist was thrown in, I had to sit for a moment and sink it in because I was completely floored. When reading from Pippa and Amanda’s chapters, it was easy to slip into their heads and see things through their eyes. It took me a while to get into but once I did, it was hard to stop reading. I even purchased a physical copy of this book from Book of the Month when it was released. Thank you to Netgalley, Sally Hepworth and St Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this title.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. It was written so well. Told from different POVs, this domestic thriller is a story about two marriages with secrets, a death, infidelity and mental illness. I easily could’ve read it in one sitting, such a quick read!

This was a quick read, I finished it in two days. There were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming, but I didn't feel completely invested in the stories or characters. I felt a bit removed or emotionally detached from the characters. There were some parts of the story where I didn't like how certain mental health issues were portrayed but the ending made that somewhat better when the character said it wasn't the mental health issue that accounted for all of the behavior. Overall, I liked the story and I would read more by the author.

This book catches your attention from the start, and it's so fast paced you don't even realize it until you reached the end and you've devoured the book in one sitting. It was that good, and the twists throughout were like what??? I really enjoyed this book,

A fantastic tale with startling and unexpected character behaviors and secrets revealed in each chapter. I enjoyed how the plot progressed and how the secrets were exposed. This one was enjoyable.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

I wanted this book to be so much better than it was. It was a good read but I just had really high hopes for it. The characetrs seemd flat and the drama less than it made itself out to be. I loved the location but wish the property had been described more.I have read other books by this author that I really enjoyed. I just could not connect with Pippa or Gabe.

🩵 REVIEW: The Soulmate 🩵

SUMMARY: Gabe and Pippa live in a charming cottage at the edge of steep cliffs that they learn is a popular spot for those looking to end their lives. Gabe soon makes it his mission to master talking people down; so much so that he’s covered as a hero in the local news. Until one night when he’s unsuccessful and a woman winds up dead…only Gabe knew this woman already, and she wasn’t there to end her life.

Like all Sally Hepworth books, I found this one to be really engaging! It was well-paced and brings you on a journey with Pippa as she realizes who her soulmate really is.

On the flip side, I found it to be quite stressful! I was mentally screaming at my Kindle for Pippa to get away from this guy. He’s not physically abusive, but he was not a good partner to her. (If you’ve ever had a good friend in a bad relationship, that was the vibe.) It made me question why she would stay with him, but people in real life do it all the time, so…

Overall, this was an entertaining domestic thriller worth picking up this summer—perfect for reading on the beach or throwing in your pool bag.

A great story, each chapter revealing a little more of the secrets and actions of the characters, surprising and unexpected. I liked how the story developed, and how the surorises were revealed. I enjoyed this one.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a perplexing mystery that continues to twist and turn till the end. If you appreciate a good mystery, you won't want to miss it!

I can honestly state that I had no idea how The Soulmate was going to end while I was reading it.The author made the right choice by using two different narrators and jumping back and forth between the past and the present. This enabled the plot to continue moving forward rapidly and allowed the reader to remain engaged throughout.

I've never read anything by Sally Hepworth before, despite multiple recommendations, and I can't wait to read more. The Soulmate did not wow me, but it was a quick and easy read that was surprising and entertaining. I would recommend it as the perfect vacation book to escape into.

I have mixed feelings on this one. Great twists at the end, but I felt like because of the way it was written, with different viewpoints and timelines, the character development lacked a little. I didn't mind the different viewpoints, I like that in books, but that and the different timelines seemed to make me think more about the timelines than the characters.
Compared to Sally Hepworth's book "The Good Sister," which I loved, these characters were forgettable.
Overall, the story was interesting enough, and the twists were good, so I'd still recommend this book if you like twists and mysteries. Just don't expect it to be super memorable.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book!

It was an enjoyable enough read but I wasn't that into it and in the end I was a bit underwhelmed. I did think it did a decent job of exploring two different types of marriage.

I was hooked from the beginning. I found it hard to put down as I wanted to know what was going to happen. Peoples lives can be so intertwined without some of them knowing. What a great story of love and tragedy, dependency and finding a soulmate when you least expect it. I sure didn't see the ending coming.

WOW! What a fast paced, high-tension read! I was hooked from the first chapter. It's a peek into marriage - 2 different couples but their stories are intertwined. I loved how the story kept me guessing and I never could anticipate where it was going. All the secrets were so well hidden that I never expected the turns and was blown away by each new reveal. It was easy to slide in to Pip's POV. She's frazzled, just trying to keep her family together and love her two daughters. I liked how she was working parent while Gabe was the stay-at-home dad. Their marital stressors were relatable and I liked how they were very 'family next door' even when their secrets really set them apart. I was drawn in to their lives and the lives of Max and Amanda. I loved that I could picture it like a movie and follow along easily with each POV. I really loved this one, so glad I gave it a try!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This possibly my favorite book from Sally Hepworth so far. I have read her previous work and while I think every book has its own charm, this one is truly the best one. It kept me guessing and intrigued the whole time. I looked forward to picking up the book and getting sucked by the story and the characters. It has cement my status as part of the Hepworth fan club. I will definitely continue to read her work.

Loved the twists and turns. Don't start this one before bed unless you want to stay up all. night. long. Great story!

This one developed slowly… It had some good twists and some that I didn’t anticipate at all, which is always good. I just didn’t care for any of the characters, and something about the way bipolar was portrayed as someone that has been diagnosed…it just rubbed me the wrong way. It felt like the author just created scenarios to be able to check off all the boxes of bipolar, you know? It was a decent read, but not my favorite from her.

This was my first Sally Hepworth book which I had the pleasure of buddy reading with some awesome women and we all seem to have the same thoughts about this read, we couldn’t read fast enough but the characters were quite the “characters.”. There’s a lot of issues/topics brought up in this book, so it definitely was intense but you won’t be able to put it down. Conclusion, I will be reading another Sally Hepworth in the future.

This was a bit of a creepy read (although that depends on whose creepy scale you are talking about, I suppose!) and while not my favorite as I read it, in retrospect I realize it was more of a timing issue than the book itself. I'm a huge mood reader, what can I say? Reflecting on it now, I really do like how it's written and - given the right mood - it would be a stellar read!
