Sally Hepworth is a must read author for me and once again she hit it out of the ballpark. Suspense and twists with likable characters. What more could you ask for? Fabulous! Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
I didn't love her last book as much as her past ones but this one was ok. I just wanted more from it. it did however deliver on the suspense and the twist that I wasn't expecting.
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a domestic thriller about Gabe and Pippa, who live in a cottage near a cliff. Gabe has had to talk several people down from jumping off the cliff, but one day he is unable to. Is there a sinister reason for this? Pippa is concerned when she finds out Gabe knew the victim. This is a fast-paced, well-written thriller. It's probably my favorite from Sally Hepworth so far. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
Needy women often annoy me. To be fair why single out women? Looking back on this story I remember a sense of disbelief, questioning what I was being told. Off to a good start then. But then the contradictions and questions begin and are compounded and the heap grows, so do you trust your instincts or disregard them and let the story carry you along? Maybe that is what a domestic thriller is supposed to accomplish. At what point do you acknowledge that you may be way off the mark as the story becomes so twisted that logic cannot prevail.
The author warns you “We trust people based on the strangest, most arbitrary things, none of which have any bearing on whether or not you are inherently good.” Now you just have to decide who is capable of what and it will all become clear.
A little less need, a lot less disbelief would have worked better for me. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for a copy.
Absolutely loved this book. The alternating viewpoints put an interesting spin on the story and everything felt real. The relationships felt well done and I enjoyed that not everyone got to know or uncover everything in the book. Only the people that needed to know were allowed to know and I liked that. It left mystery for the others even after the book ended.
This book is high on my list of favorites for 2023.
I thought throughout the whole book I knew what was happening, but I was wrong. To say that this story grabbed me from the first page and held me captive the whole time would be an understatement.
I thought I had how the book got it's title figured out pretty early on in the story. I would be wrong. I don't think this book is a thriller, as I didn't ever have those intense moments of "oh no, what's going to happen?" but I did have moments where I couldn't stop reading because I needed to know what was going to unfold. I felt edge of my seat throughout most of the story because I needed to know what really happened to Amanda.
5 stars from me, I really enjoyed this one a lot. Definitely not what I was expecting or what I thought I knew was happening. Give this one a shot!
Another amazing story from Sally Hepworth. I couldnt put it down! The characters are well thought out and developed, and the story is addictive. I highly recommend this book to people who love Sally’s other books, and anyone who loves a great thriller!
Another winner from Sally Hepworth. I loved this book. I didn’t want to put it down. The characters are riveting and the story is addictive. I highly recommend this book to people who love domestic thrillers.
Gabe has talked numerous people down from jumping off the cliff near the backyard of his house. Today is different, he loses a woman to the drop. Turns out, he knows the woman, and his wife Pippa doesn’t know if this is just a coincidence or not.
I really enjoyed the writing and flow of this book. Easy and quick chapters keeping me more than interested. Told in two perspectives, pip both past and present, and Amanda, the woman who died, both past a present. I did find a little confusion in the past stories as the story of pip and gabe was similar to the story of max and Amanda in their meeting and love.
Did gabe play a bigger role in amanadas death, or was it just happenstance she decided to take her own life in front of him
I absolutely LOVED this book! It was my book clubs April pick and I ended up finishing ahead of schedule. I actually really enjoyed the after death timeline. It gave the book a unique perspective, and offered a way to explain details that we wouldn’t be privy to otherwise. As difficult as the mental health aspects were to read, I thought it was very well depicted.
This author has not disappointed me yet! Loved this one. It was fast paced and twisty, just the way I like them! What a great story with all the twists!
I love, love Sally Hepworth and this was no exception. Thrilling and twisty, amazing! My thanks to the publisher and net galley for the advance copy.
This was exactly what I expect to love about a Sally Hepworth thriller, a gripping page turner that instantly captured my attention and grabbed a hold of my the whole way through. I'll definitely be recommending this story over this year and years to come. Fantastic characters I love a good multiple POV story when done well it builds impeccable suspense which Sally Hepworth wrote perfectly. This one is definitely a perfect weekend read for domestic fiction fans.
This was a terrific book with plenty of twists and turns and secrets and intrigue with a little mental illness and an illegitimate child thrown in just for good measure. Reading Sally Hepworth is like taking a break from your personal life to enter the lives of two couples-complete with the complexities they are dealing with. The ending came as the biggest surprise of all to me-I never saw that coming. I highly recommend this book and gratefully thank St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read it.
I found this book surprisingly good, the unraveling of secrets, marriage and push to be the perfect wife. The story line was very thought out and powerfully moving and very relatable. How far can you be pushed in a marriage before you break? This story touches on mental illness, the ups and downs of marriage, add in murder and you have up all night thriller.
Gabe and Pippa live in lovely costal town with their dream home that sits on cliff. However the tall cliffs have become a popular place for people to end their lives. Night after night, Gabe comes to the recuse to talk them out of jumping till one night he does not save a women. His story of what happen that night seems not at all what Pippa saw, something seems off. Who was this woman and what did she say to Gabe? Dark secrets come back that Pippa thought she had long buried. Everything she has protected is exposed and she will have to face to understand how they got here.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for copy of this book for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this domestic drama from Sally Hepworth. I enjoy the dual POV and the mystery of who's side to believe. I also loved the dual timeline, I think that is always an interesting element in a fiction story with thriller like elements.
For an honest review, I received an ARC.
The story was quick and easy to read. The characters move from the city to a cliff-side ocean view home. When someone known is killed, the ex-boyfriend (house owner) becomes the suspect. With a lot of secrets and many missed messages in communication, the story continues to weave.
While it is was not an OMG ending for me, there was a decent twist.
Wow, Sally Hepworth has done it again. I almost read this all in one sitting. What a great exploration of the complications of marriage, especially when mental health is an issue. There were plenty of twists I didn’t see coming and the ending was great. Definitely going to read more Hepworth after this one!
Sally Hepworth is the queen of domestic suspense and The Soulmate definitely fits that bill.
Pippa and Gabe move to a house on a cliff where Gabe becomes famous for talking women off the cliff. But one night he is not successful. As the police investigate, Pippa realizes the woman’s death is connected to Gabe’s former boss, Max.
Sally is so good at making a twisty, suspenseful drama. I gasped a few times but I like that she does not make it unbelievable. I liked the dual POVs of Amanda and Pippa and thought Amanda’s was very creative in driving the story (you’ll have to read to find out why).
There are trigger warnings I’d encourage you to check out before reading.
Gabe and Pippa have two young daughters and recently moved into a beautiful home on a cliff located in a coastal Australian town. The cliff has come to be a notorious spot for people who choose to end their lives by jumping to their death. Gabe has become a sort of hero as he has the unique gift of talking to people and convincing them not to jump.
One night a woman comes to the spot. Gabe approaches to talk her back from the edge and he does not succeed, and the woman jumps to her death. Gabe tells the police that she was distraught over her husband's infidelity. The next day Pippa learns that the deceased woman was the wife of Gabe's boss.
The book is told from alternating points of view, that of Pippa and Amanda (the deceased woman). Each point of view is like peeling an onion with layers upon layers. This story was full of twists and turns and was very entertaining.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy!
