Pippa and her family have just moved to a cliffside cottage with gorgeous views, but the cliff in their backyard affording the views is known as “The Drop”, a famous place in the community to commit suicide. Pippa’s husband Gabe, has started talking people down when they appear in the family backyard looking to jump and end their life. Gabe has been successful so far.
One evening, a woman appears, and Gabe is devastated when he isn’t able to save her. Pippa is witness to this traumatic event out the patio door. But Pippa could swear there was something else going on out there before the woman jumped. More information surrounding this woman’s suicide begins to come to light, and Pippa finds that this woman is no stranger that she is actually known to her family, and entwined into some of their darkest secrets.
Told from Multiple POV: Pippa and the woman who jumped. Told both in past and present, flipping back and forth all leading up to the present and what really happened outside. Short quick chapters which I enjoyed. Kept me hooked and kept me guessing until the very end.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the e-ARC of this amazing book.

Sally Hepworth never disappoints! The Soulmate was a quick read that I didn’t want to put down.
Pippa and Gabe live in a beautiful house next to a cliff: The cliff is known for a place where people come to end their lives, Gabe has become known as the rescuer, being able to stop many from jumping. Until one day when Pippa sees Gabe at the cliff and can’t tell if he actually pushed the woman to her death. There are many twists and turns and character connections that come together throughout the book.

I absolutely love Sally Hepworth. Her novels are such easy and intriguing. This one though...this one TOPS all of her other novels that I have read. The way she switched the characters every other chapter was so nice to read. The way she adds in all those twists and turns leaves me with my jaw on the floor. She is my favorite author and her books are on the top of my "always purchase" authors

I finished The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth a couple of weeks ago and finally getting around to a review.
Seemingly perfect couple, Pippa and Gabe, live in a beautiful house next to The Drop, a cliff known for many deaths. Gabe finds a calling in helping people and talking them down from jumping until Amanda shows up. Did she jump, fall, or was she pushed?
The Soulmate was fast paced and another great book from Sally Hepworth. I like the two POVs and going back and forth between past and present to fit the puzzle together. One of the POVs is following Amanda in the afterlife— loved this POV as she told her story and also followed her husband after her death. Some things I saw coming, others I didn’t. It was just a good, solid thriller with a great ending.
Thank you @stmartinspress for this copy to read, enjoy, and review!

I think I am the outlier here but I was not enthralled by this book. The now and then chapters were jarring and I found Pippa and especially Gabe to be incredibly annoying. The twist was ok but over all did not do it for me. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion

Interesting that romance is the genre criticized for miscommunication when if the couples in this book had talked maybe no one would've died??
Anyways. This was a book club pick and I didn't dislike it. Just my issue with thrillers is I have no interest in the plot and just want to get to the end to figure out what the big reveal is. This one did take something interesting turns and Sally Hepworth's writing makes you want to keep reading...I just didn't care about anything.
I'm not a thriller reader so these books clearly are not for me bc when I want to escape reality I was a happy reality, not a reality that is as bleak as real life.
I'm excited to discuss this one with book club, bc I'm curious to hear their thoughts.
TW: suicide (on page; discussions of; another suicide in the past), mental health struggles, cheating, death/murder, kidnapping, shady business dealings.

Where to start. This is the first book I have read by Sally Hepworth. I was really excited to dive into it as this book had so many great reviews. I wanted to like it. But I really didn’t. And I’m not sure why I didn’t.
This is a story of family, betrayal, mental illness and more.
Pippa is a lawyer, married to Gabe and they have two daughters. Their life has been a roller coaster with Gabe’s erratic behaviour. They have moved to the coast, in a beautiful home. But that property has.a bit of heartbreak as it’s located by “the drop” which is a known suicide location. Since they have been there, Gabe has been able to talk everyone out of jumping. Until the night he didn’t. And when a connection is found between Gabe and the jumper, Pippa can’t help but wonder if she did in fact jump or if Gabe was at all involved.
I think this book had the potential of being so much better. The plot on its own is ok. But the characters were weak and for me, were not very likeable. We get flipped by three narratives of before, now, after and that didn’t flow. I found it all over the place and it took me away from the enjoyment of the story. Many books have multiple characters narrating with different time period but I didn’t find this to be successful in this case. When I read a book, I want to devour it. I want to hate the minute I have to put it down for any reason and I want to be anxious to get back to it. That didn’t happen with this one. I just didn’t care and sometimes I felt I was picking it up so I could get it over with it and move on to my next book. I am not ready to give up on this author yet. She does have a large following and many people love her books. Maybe I will feel like that on the next one of hers I read. But this one didn’t do it for me.
Thank you to the publisher and net galley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a pleasant surprise of a read! I felt like I knew where the story was going in the beginning but I was totally wrong! It takes a very well written story for me to enjoy a thriller/suspense/mystery book and this was that! Definitely recommend grabbing this one to try!

I received an advanced copy of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth from the publisher St. Martin's Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
What It’s About: Pippa and Gabe’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town lies on a cliff. However, the cliff is a popular spot for people to end their lives, and Gabe has night after night been able to talk people down, until he doesn’t. But when Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, questions from all end to rise.
What I Loved: No one writes these domestic drama *light* suspense like Sally Hepworth. Like all her other books, she explores the links between different people and starts to unravel what is really going on under the seemingly perfect surface. The writing is just a joy and I always have a good time with her ability to take me out and explore a story.
What I Didn’t Like: For me, the characters were not super interesting and I had trouble cheering for them (the plotting and connections are still great), I wasn’t sure who I was routing for or if I really could. I also didn’t love the way mental health was treated in this book. It seemed like a lot of lines were crossed including some doctor-patient confidentiality. I didn’t totally buy the choice Pippa and Gabe made to live there, it seems like a poor decision for as devoted of a parent to buy a house on a cliff.
Who Should Read It: People who liked Sally Hepworth’s work in the past. People who like domestic drama with some suspense and mystery elements.
Summary: A woman jumps from a cliff or did she?

This was my first Sally Hepworth book and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the characters, but Amanda was definitely my favorite. I also really liked the alternating POV. The twist I had no idea about and it was very intense. I didn't really enjoy the ending, I thought it was kinda forced, but not bad. Definitely will pick up another Sally Hepworth book in the future

I was so excited to read this book. Plus the cover is beautiful! As I began reading I was hooked. I thought the pacing was handled well and the plot and characters had depth and intrigue. The back half of the book slowed down a little and the end was kind of obvious, but still a solid read.

The Soulmate was an excellent read on the beach on spring break. I love the way the title The Soulmate is used as two very different marriages are explored through the plot.
Great setting—seaside home in Australia
Secrets in marriages are slowly revealed
One perspective is of the deceased, which I loved
I like the way the novel displays the complexity of marriage and how love can look different and, as they say, sometimes love just isn’t enough.
(TW: Mental health, bipolar disorder, suicide, infidelity are all potential triggers)
Overall, I really enjoyed the page-turning domestic suspense

Whenever anything looks too good to be true, it usually is. In this case, it’s the marriages of Pippa and Gabe and Max and Amanda. Told in the words of Amanda and Pippa in alternating chapters, perfect lives begin to unfold.
Pippa and Gabe live in a house on a cliff with their two young daughters. A cliff (nicknamed The Jump) that people come to when they are contemplating suicide Pippa and Gabe had no idea what they were in for when buying this seemingly perfect house.
Their story soon intersects with the lives of Max and Amanda.
Very interesting from the start, I flew through this book. I had read a book by Sally Hepworth in the past and knew I would love this one. I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, I expected a good book, but I got a great one. Thank you Net Galley and thank you Sally Hepworth!

Wow, I loved this. The final twist, the setup, this had it all for me. Happily I didn't read the description beforehand so I had no idea where this would go and it surprised me!

This was a fun read. I won't spoil anything.
But honestly, no one in this book was likable, and the person you're not supposed to like, I liked. I liked Max the best. I guess because he didn't allow emotions to get in the way, even of his marriage. The book is a great, quick read that would be great next to the pool.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the review copy of this book.
Gabe and Pippa have finally found their dream home, but it's location is a hot spot for people wanting to end their lives. Gabe always comes to their rescue and talks them down and off the (literal) edge. Then one day, a woman shows up that Gabe couldn't save. Then it turns out he knew the victim. Did she really jump? Did he push her? Was it an accident? Full of twists and turns, this is the perfect book about love, marriage, betrayal, and secrets.
Without spoiling anything, I loved the way the author chose to end this book. I would definitely recommend for mystery/thriller lovers.
CW: Suicide, Mental Heath issues

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth was a dynamic read! I've loved the previous books I've read by this author and this one did not disappoint. It was interesting to hear the story from the perspective of the women with before and after aspects. This thriller kept my attention throughout and was entertaining. The ending was unexpected! Highly recommend this book and this author!

I absolutely loved this smart and surprising mystery. While being a page turner, I found it to be an interesting and touching portrayal of two very different marriages, family and mental illness. I thought each of the 4 main characters were well written, and I really enjoyed it. I have recxomeneded it to many customers needing to get out of a reading rut and it has worked!

An intriguing, fast-paced, psychological mystery that kept me quickly turning the pages from beginning to end. When Pippa and Gabe bought their home next to oceanside cliffs they thought they had found their dream home with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, what they did not know was that the amazing cliffs in their backyard were often the place people came to jump to their deaths. This place was known by the locals as "The Drop" because of all the people who went there to commit suicide. After a while Gabe became a sort of local celebrity known for talking people out of jumping to their deaths until one evening things do not go as normal and the woman Gabe was talking to on the cliffs actually jumps to or death, but did she do it willingly?
The characters may not be the people I would want living next door to me but their stories grab your attention and their personalities felt very authentic. The story is told flawlessly through dual timelines and alternating points of view, which kept me interested and moved the story along at a perfect pace. The telling of Amanda and Pippa's stories through alternating points of view created a wonderful way of weaving their storylines together perfectly.
Mental health and how it impacts families and other relationships is a heavy topic throughout this book. It was done in a very thought provoking and respectful way.
Sally Hepworth is extremely good at throwing in many unexpected twists and turns completely changing the direction you may have thought the book was heading and this book if full of them! I highly recommend this fast-paced thriller that will keep you interested from the first page to the last page. I am extremely grateful to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Gabe and Pippa live on a beautiful cliffside with their two small girls. They have been through a lot and are looking forward to enjoying this next phase of life together. That is until their cliffside becomes the spot where people come to jump to their death. Gabe has successfully talked them all out of jumping until he doesn't. As more details arise, it's discovered that Gabe knew the jumper and may have had reason to push her. Pippa is trying her best to stand by her husband, but it's becoming harder and harder to do so.
I really liked this twisty thriller. Each chapter was like a little nugget of information and I couldn't stop reading it. This is the first page-turner I've read in a while. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick thriller.
