I enjoyed this one even more than The Mother-in-Law (which I loved)! Gorgeous setting, unique POV, lovable characters and a story line that will keep you guessing.

In addition to receiving this as an ARC, I also had the immense pleasure of meeting Sally Hepworth in person at a book event on her pub-day. She is an absolute delight. I highly recommend seeing her in person if you ever have the opportunity. If not, follow her on Instagram - you won't be disappointed!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and #NetGalley for allowing me to read a pre-release of this novel. My reviews are voluntary and all opinions are my own.

An excellent thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish.
Pippa and Gabe live in house near a cliff, infamous for people taking their lives there. Gabe is equally as well known for talking people off the ledge and saving their lives. Until one day, he speaks to a woman who jumps anyway. Or did she?

I read and love everything Sally Hepworth writes. The Soulmate was another hit for me!

I couldn’t put it down. It had all of the things I love in a thriller - hooked me immediately, lots of secrets and twists and turns, complicated, multi-dimensional characters, dual timelines and dual POVs.

I really enjoyed The Soulmate and would absolutely recommend it. (Also, how gorgeous is this cover?)

Sally Hepworth twisted a tale that kept me hooked throughout. There were no chapters that felt like fluff and I was definitely kept on my toes the whole way through to see how it would all come together.

The characters were real, and although not always likeable, they seemed genuine and it did make you care to know how their story would play out.

Longtime fan of Sally’s here. Special thanks to St Martins Press for the review copy! This mystery was so good and super easy to get into. My school schedule is what kept me from finishing fast. This is definitely one of those easy weekend reads!

Marriage, betrayal, mental health issues and the perspective from the dead wife. Gabe and Pippa’s dream house lies on the side by the ocean with beautiful views but, sadly it’s become known as a place where people go to commit suicide. Gabe is usually able to talk people down but, one afternoon a woman arrives and chooses her fate. The story is why did she do it and what’s her story?

The way this story grips you from the first chapter and keeps you interested makes it the perfect beach read. The “ghost” aspect is brilliant and ads another perspective. I really enjoyed the latest from Sally, the details are perfectly placed just enough to give you chill bumps as you read through. Characters and story are well developed. Definitely recommend! Four stars!

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel, surprisingly. I enjoyed reading The Soulmate a lot more than I thought I would. There was so much happening! Multi-POV, multi-timeline, and plot twists at every turn. I will definitely be picking up another one of her books in the future.

The Soulmate
By Sally Hepworth
Review and Rating 4 ⭐️

Sally Hepworth seems to be the master of the complicated family dynamic. She tackles this once again in The Soulmate.
Told from the alternating perspectives of Pippa and Amanda, who both feel they have married their soulmates, husbands Gabe and Max respectively.
Pippa and Gabe live in a cliff side home right next to an unfortunately popular suicide jump location. Gabe makes it his mission to ‘talk down’ those attempting to jump to their death by suicide and fortunately successfully does so, until one night he doesn’t.
The repercussions and unraveling that occur because of this make for the twisty and suspenseful Sally Hepworth novel we have all come to know and love.
Keep in mind there are themes of mental illness and suicide throughout. If you love a twist filled domestic drama and haven’t picked this up yet, give it a try! 4⭐️

I want to thank St. Martin’s Press and #NetGalley for providing me with an eARC. All opinions provided in this review are my own.

Sally Hepworth's books never have the same formula twice. Some authors tend to write similar plots but Hepworth manages to keep you guessing every time.

In The Soulmate we have alternating perspectives and alternating timelines, but something really unique was hearing from a woman after death. It was a unique way to allow us insight into all the characters. This dead woman's soul serves as our mostly unbiased narrator with the ability to observe almost any scene. I thought this was such a great way to give the reader insider information without a typical POV.

Gabe and Pippa live in their dream house, except for the fact that it's on a cliff side. Let alone the anxiety over keeping two small children away from the edge, they now know it's a popular suicide location popularly known as "The Drop." Gabe has become a guardian angel of sorts, trotting out any time they see a person approaching the edge to talk them down, literally and figuratively, until the police arrive to help. He's saved a handful of people from jumping, until the night he doesn't. Pippa is washing dishes when she alerts Gabe to a woman nearing the cliff. Gabe heads out and Pippa calls the authorities. It looks like it isn't going great, lots of wild and angry hand gestures. Momentarily distracted when Pippa looks back up, only one figure is left on the land, her husband.

What follows is an unraveling of secrets and relationships. What exactly happened out there? And who was the woman who jumped? Did she indeed jump? Pippa finds herself questioning herself and her husband as anxiety and anticipation build. Police and reader alike rush to figure out the puzzle of this apparent suicide.

I really enjoyed this read. It was such a great view into the different complicated relationships in our lives. It shed light on how we see ourselves versus how others see us and how very different those views can be. I was definitely kept guessing until the end.

I absolutely love Sally Hepworth, and was so happy to receive this ARC!

The Soulmate starts off with a unique and interesting premise - a family who lives nearby a deadly cliff. Gabe, a husband and father, is known for quite literally talking people off the edge. One night, a woman seemingly jumps off despite Gabes intervention efforts.

This story was engaging, twisty and turny and I absolutely loved all the characters. Sally Hepworth creates such complex stories and characters that it is so easy to fully immerse yourself into the Australian countryside. I so enjoyed this!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

This was a better than average suspense novel. Sally Hepworth is a reliable suspense/thriller writer.

This was another great twisty novel by Sally Hepworth. What I love the most about her stories is even when you think you know where she’s going, she always surprises you. This was so perfect because I *thought* I knew where she was going with the story and then *bam* she surprised me with not one but three twists. Such an addicting story where it’s hard to put down but one that you’ll remember for years later.

Sally is back with another top read! 🔥

It's been a few years now since I read The Mother-In-Law by Hepworth and I honestly still think about that book at least once a week, and I have a feeling that The Soulmate is about the be the same exact way!

This one starts out with a bang and doesn't let up the entire time! The short chapters kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and made it nearly impossible to STOP reading.

I think what I love so much about Sally Hepworth's books are they dive DEEP into a topic and family dynamic that is so fascinating. This had multiple timelines and POVs which I always love. This had so many twists, that I didn't see coming (as most of her books usually do)!

But it is more than just twists - they aren't always this shocking act has happened, but instead what you never would have thought is now actually reality. I'm sure I'm making zero sense, but that's what I loved so much. They are so shocking because it makes you think so much about that specific relationship and why that is happening. Ugh, I loved it.

Loved this. Loved the cover. Love Sally Hepworth. Love it all.

A cottage on a seaside cliff. A young, successful family. The wife a successful lawyer. The husband a local hero. The picture of happiness. Then a woman falls from the cliff and despite all signs pointing to suicide, a case is opened, and the picture perfect life begins to reveal its cracks.

Told from the perspective of two women, Pippa, the wife, and the dead woman, The Soulmate takes readers on a dual-timeline, suburban drama adventure. Filled with secrets, lies, and the commitments of marriage, Hepworth's latest thriller is impossible to put down. We know there must be a tie between the two women or their husbands, we know they each have made commitments to their marriages that subvert the norm, and we know that there is only so long that one can turn a blind eye.

You could not pull my attention from The Soulmate for anything, I had to find out if my assumptions were correct, and yet with every page I turned Hepworth introduces something more to add to my case file. Like a bowl of spaghetti you must untangle, The Soulmate is twisted and with every unravel we discover just a bit more that leaves us, and wife Pippa, questioning everything. To add to it, Hepworth writes a compelling tale of loyalty and trust, taking readers into a sympathetic territory despite all hell breaking loose. It is possibly not a unique story, but absolutely told in a unique way.

This was not the type of thriller I usually enjoy. It was a bit slow and I would classify as more of a suspense. I think this may have been a me problem.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced review copy.

I believe that this is my first Sally Hepworth novel, and it was pretty good. The dual POV with dual timelines did make me glad that I had the ebook to look at instead of just the audio. It was very entertaining and held my attention. I was trying to figure it the who done it and way, but there were a couple twists that I didn't see.

I just finished reading The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth, and I'm already hooked! This novel not only captivates you from beginning to end but also has a deep discussion around mental illness and how it affects those who care for them. The short chapters and alternating points of view between the characters make for a suspenseful and clever way of storytelling.
The story revolves around Amanda's tragic fall from "The Spot", a cliff behind Pippa and Gabe Gerard's home outside of Melbourne. As the identity of the deceased is revealed, Pippa realizes that she is the wife of Gabe's former boss, Max, and things start to escalate. What follows is a rollercoaster ride of secrets, betrayals, and surprising twists that kept me on the edge of my seat.
What I appreciated most was how the author handled a sensitive topic in a responsible manner, avoiding any harmful stereotypes. This is a character-driven novel that is sure to break any reading slump and can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a fast-paced, exciting read.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

Pub date: April 4, 2023
St. Martin’s Press

My rating: 4 stars Sally Hepworth writes great family drama mysteries with multiple points of view and wonderful twists, turns, and suspense. The Soulmate is my favorite Hepworth book so far!

Publisher’s synopsis: Picture a lovely cottage on a cliff, with sloping lawns, walking paths, and beautiful flowers. It’s Gabe and Pippa Gerard’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Over the past several months, Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until one day, he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral. . . .Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate . . . lie? As the perfect façade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel. Because sometimes, the most convincing lies are the ones we tell ourselves.

My review: I have read many of Sally Hepworth’s books and this one is my favorite. I didn’t want to put it down. I love it when a story shows you the murder at the outset and you spend the rest of the book piecing together the why and the how of what happened. The Soulmate does this so artfully with multiple points of view and jumping back in time. The characters and their relationships are great and the story is told in such a way that, throughout, I was questioning who were the “good” and “bad” guys. This is such a good portrayal of what people will and won’t do and what they overlook for the sake of their marriages and families. If you enjoy a domestic drama/mystery with twists and turns, interesting characters, and minimal gore/violence, I highly recommend The Soulmate.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to @netgalley and @Stmartinspress for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to @macmillian.audio for a free download of the audiobook.

This story follows Pippa and Gabe, who moved a picture perfect house on a cliff. A cliff that is used at times by people wanting to end their lives. On numerous occasions, Gabe has been able to talk people out of this decision…until the night he couldn’t. Gabe says she jumped, but Pippa swears she saw Gabe push the person. What really happened?

I have to say that once I start a book by @sallyhepworth , I never want to put it down. The Soulmate is no exception. Told from two different points of view, this book was engaging and full of plot twists.

This was my first novel by Sally Hepworth, and I will be reading more.

This book is entertaining from the very beginning. I loved that it is told from two POV's, one dead and one alive. The short, quick chapters helped the book flow well. The title is perfect considering this is a look into marriage, but a tumultuous one.

The only reason I am knocking this to a 3.5 star read is because I didn't connect or want to root for any of the characters, but then again, this is a suspense, so are you really supposed to?!

Thank you so much Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for this awesome ARC in exchange for a review!

I love all things Sally Hepworth and this one did not disappoint. Gabe and Pippa decide to move their family to the house on the cliff, a well known area where disaster occurs. Gabe is the one who continually rescues those who stand at the edge contemplating their next move. Then one day a woman is seen at the edge and Gabe goes to rescue her, the only probably is that he doesn’t and she ends up off the edge of the cliff. Now the question is how did this happen? Did she really fall or was she pushed?

This fast paced thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat as you navigate through family secrets and lies. Will the true come out?
