This book grabbed me from the very beginning. It kept me wondering what was going on, but the big reveal was a bit of a let down for me.
The Soulmate" is an absolutely captivating novel that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Sally Hepworth masterfully weaves together the lives of two complex and relatable characters, Pippa and Gabe, creating a story that is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. The novel explores themes of love, loss, and the power of human connection in a way that is both thought-provoking and deeply moving.
Hepworth's writing is simply beautiful, with vivid descriptions and perfectly crafted dialogue that bring the story to life. Her characters are multi-dimensional and feel like real people, with flaws and quirks that make them all the more endearing. I found myself rooting for both of the main characters throughout the book and was thoroughly satisfied with the ending.
Overall, I would highly recommend "The Soulmate" to anyone who enjoys a well-written and emotionally engaging novel. This is a book that will stay with you long after you turn the final page. 5 stars!

As previously noted with Sally Hepworth's books, I've felt she did a great job building her characters and setting up the story to reel you in and keep you hanging until the end. Once again, this story starts out with a bit of mystery. A house on cliff, known for it's jumpers. And then it's someone our MC"s know and the secrets begin spilling out slowly. I felt this story tied in well together, even with the POC of our jumper to add more detail to the story. I felt Hepworth did a great job with a realistic ending and tied up all of the loose ends.
Recommended for fans of Hepworth, Mystery and suspense with a touch of a ghost story ...
The Soulmate was a solid (but lighter) domestic thriller in line with other books by this author! The main setting was amazing and this read had lots of great twists and turns, especially at the end! Multiple POVs and interesting characters. I enjoyed the “after” timeline in this novel quite a bit. Themes of mental illness, family drama, infidelity and marriage. Makes one question “could you support your partner if they did something illegal?”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and opinion.
The Soulmate is a novel of domestic suspense. Sally Hepworth sets the story in Australia where Pippa and Gabe, along with their two young daughters, have moved into their coastal dream home. Their home is within view of The Drop, a cliff, where unfortunately tormented people have come to jump to their death. Gabe has, in fact, already saved seven people from taking their lives by approaching them and talking them out of their plan. He is featured in news articles about The Drop, and with his movie star handsome looks and charismatic nature, this makes for a fascinating and popular news feature.
When Pippa witnesses Gabe’s attempt to save a woman who actually goes off the cliff and dies, and then eventually finds out that Gabe knew her, doubt and suspicion creep into their lives. The story is told from Pippa’s point of view, and the point of view of the woman, both in alternating then and now timelines. Through this way, the author gradually reveals more and more about Pippa, Gabe, their relationship, lies and truth, perception and reality. The tension and suspense are palpable and grow as the story progresses.
The twists and turns in this novel were surprising and they made for a great story. There is a theme of mental illness and how it affects a family, which the author handled very carefully; it was very well done.

Sally’s books never let me down. I read this quickly and enjoyed it. I liked it a lot, I didn’t LOVE it. Sally is an automatic “must read” author for me, I look forward to whatever she writes next.
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
Picture a lovely cottage on a cliff, with sloping lawns, walking paths, and beautiful flowers. It’s Gabe and Pippa Gerard’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Over the past several months, Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge.
Until one day, he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral. . . .Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate . . . lie? As the perfect façade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel. Because sometimes, the most convincing lies are the ones we tell ourselves.
This is out now, don’t miss it!
I found @sallyhepworth books a few years ago and was immediately drawn to the way she weaves women's and mental health issues into her mystery/thriller novels... Her latest, The Soulmate, is no exception!
About Gabe and Pippa - a couple with a secret past who recently moved to their dream home that just happens to be directly beside a cliff that is a popular suicide spot - The Soulmate begins with the death of a famous media mogul's wife at the cliff with Gabe beside her and Pippa watching through the kitchen and window. From there, the story takes takes readers on a twisty journey, with split timelines and narrators, to reveal the events leading up to that moment, WHY (and even IF) she jumped, and the truth about Gabe and Pippa's role in it all.
Per usual, it's obvious that Hepworth did her research for this one, and I really appreciate the way she wrote about mental health, marriage, loyalty, and morality all within a genre that isn't known for being particularly "deep."

I was so grateful to receive this ARC prior to publication and tried many times to pick this up and read it after liking several of Sally’s previous books a lot. I just can’t seem to grasp on to the plot, but perhaps I just need to read it at another time. I loved the atmosphere and the setting greatly, and found it an exciting expansion upon the normal setting (or at least normal to the few of Sally’s books I’ve read) of neighborhoods in cities. I know several friends who really enjoyed this when it was their BOTM pick so it definitely makes me second guess my take and want to try again. I read roughly 100 pages.
This was my first Sally Hepworth novel and I really enjoyed it! There were so many twists and turns that kept me guessing. I loved that we read from multiple POVs in multiple timelines - I especially loved that the victim's point of view was included. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!
This is the fifth book I have read from Sally Hepworth and she just keeps getting better and better with each book. I was totally hooked and I loved the short chapters and the various points of views from different people and different times. I'm just sorry it's over. I can't wait till her next one.
Ooh, The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a book full of family secrets. I wasn’t sure how they connected, but it wrapped up nicely in the end. This book was eerie, propulsive, and hard to put down! If you like domestic dramas, pick this one up!

I kept hearing about The Soulmate before I picked it up, but I still wasn't sure what to expect. It ended up being a page-turner that I couldn't put down. The change of POV from Amanda and Pippa kept the story interesting, where some stories like this have a "boring" protagonist and an exciting one, this one had two interesting ones. At first, I had trouble keeping some of the characters and their backstories straight (who had a father that cheated a lot, whose mum suddenly died?) but eventually, it was easy to keep track of things. I was expecting a typical mystery but ended up feeling really sad for the characters (in a good way). Often the victims of these stories are afterthoughts, but I really felt for this one. Right when I began to feel frustrated with the protagonist, other characters chimed in to make it clear the behavior was not ok. I appreciated that and it was the difference between loving and hating a book for me. I look forward to Sally Hepworth's next book.
Wow! What a great book! This had so much going on and I loved every minute. The story goes back and for in time and narration. It fits together so well and tells a solid complete story. It keeps you guessing and wanting more, which is why I had a few late nights reading this. Great book, I highly recommend!
This new novel from Sally Hepworth is exactly what you expect of her - a soap opera full of domestic drama and intrigue.
While her books probably aren’t going to win a Pulitzer any time soon, they are the story equivalence of comfort food - engaging and fun, yet requiring little effort from the reader.
Thanks to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for this #arc of #thesoulmate in exchange for an honest review.
Very interesting idea. I could have done without the dead pov but I can see how it ties in with the title. Slow to start but picked up. The final twist, didn’t see coming so that’s always nice.
I absolutely adore Sally Hepworth’s writing and her latest novel does not disappoint. I was hooked from the first page, and I loved how the story unfolded using different narrators to show different perspectives. I really enjoyed how the concept of devotion to a soulmate was woven into the story, and I was captivated by the ending. This review is really difficult to write because I want to ramble on about all the details that made me love this book, but I also don't want to ruin those moments for future readers, so I'm left being vague. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, definitely give this book a go.
A new top domestic thriller, Sally Hepworth has perfected the propulsive, page-turning mystery perfect for a day at the beach.
Now and then, you will come across a book that consumes your mind and attention. This is one of those books. The story is twisty, compelling, and also tragic. I appreciated that the twists were shocking, surprising, and not foreseeable—especially the last one ( I was shattered and needed an emotional break from reading).
This book is about how women can fall hopelessly and madly in love, showing how people can be in toxic and extremely dysfunctional relationships. This is a great thriller to get you thinking and will twist your insides about how something like this could be going on, and on the outside, it seems fine until it's not.
Gabe and Pippa look like your average family and even have some close family. However, their house is located on a cliff(which people like to commit suicide on). At the same time, Gabe can talk down several people from the cliff. However, one day, things changed. An older woman approaches the house, and while Pippa is observing from the window with Gabe and this mystic woman, she sees her husband's arms stretched out, and the older woman falls. While Pippa is trying to comprehend if this woman jumped or did her husband push her. Could Gabe do something that sinister? While the death is ruled out as a suicide, something still bothers Pippa. Then when she learns the name of the woman, everything can change.
This story is told from a dual perspective between Pippa and Amanda (the woman who fell), and this is soo deliciously twisted and a great afternoon read because once you start this book, you will be hooked and unable to get away from it! I recommend this for thriller lovers because you will be on the edge of your seat! Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, for this AMAZING opportunity to read and review! This one was an absolute treat!
The Soulmate has the delicious bite of suspense as told from the perspectives of two different women, one alive and one dead. I love the way the narrative goes back and forth from past to present and the unsettling feelings that evokes. I wasn't sure where the story was going and I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and the way the ending wrapped up all the loose ends and felt emotionally satisfying despite the sad circumstances.
Many thanks to my friends at @stmartinspress and @macmillan.audio for the #gifted copies.
Brilliantly layered and full of intrigue. Hepworth delivers another page turner that I couldn't look away from.
Two marriages. On the outside, the very picture of perfection. But secrets and betrayals leave us wondering: Are they truly soulmates?
Compulsively readable. With short chapters and alternating point of view, I found myself entrenched in this mystery, dedicated to unraveling the details. The way Hepworth plays with perception is always a treat, and I found her skills superbly executed in this latest foray.
And then there’s also something about the way she writes relationships and families. The dialogue, the emotion, the miniscule details of home life. There’s an authenticity to the characters as individuals as well as how they interact within the unit.
I am a huge proponent of quality mental health representation, and in The Soulmate, Hepworth nails it. There is a sensitivity to the execution alongside quality depiction of both illness and treatment.
Hepworth knows how to captivate and never disappoints. I’m confident The Soulmate will be eagerly welcomed by fans of domestic suspense.
🎧 I enjoyed this one in both print and audio formats. I must admit that I’m a sucker for a great accent, and the narration by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry was like music to my ears.
