I love a good family drama mystery-type thriller so this is right up my alley. I think it could have been a little more speed up and I didn’t love certain tropes involved (I don’t want to include spoilers) but overall a really solid thriller.

This book has many little twists and turns that get revealed throughout the book so you aren’t waiting til the end for the *BIG TWIST*! I loved that part and it kept you on your toes reading!

As you guys know I love a dual POV that switches back and forth to give us way more context to the overall picture going on.

I recommend if you like:

This was my first read from Sally Hepworth and I’m happy to say that it won’t be my last as I’ll be seeking out more. I really enjoyed The Soulmate with its twists and turns that just kept coming. There was so much suspense that I had to take a break at one point. There were also some parts that seemed to slow down somewhat but they were necessary backstory to understand the entire plot. Because of this though, the pacing felt off. I probably would have liked it more had it put each person’s perspective in order instead of in random chapters like it was. Because of this, I deducted one star. Overall though, great read!

I always enjoy Sally Hepworth’s domestic thrillers and was excited to receive a copy of this one. It follows the story of Gabe & Pippa and their house on the cliff, which turns out to be a popular suicide spot known as The Drop. The story starts with a woman jumping off the cliff after Gabe tries to stop her, like he has countless others since they moved there a year ago. What follows is the story of Gabe & Pippa’s lives in the past and present and how it all ties in together to what happened at The Drop and its aftermath.

This was a really easy read, as Hepworth’s writing usually is, and I found myself picking it up often to get to the end to find out how everything ties in together! While I did find some of the reveals a bit underwhelming, it was still a great story and kept me engaged till the very end. Would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of Sally Hepworth’s other work or of domestic thrillers in general!

I couldn't put this psychological thriller down. Full of twists and turns and secrets - just when I thought I had things figured out, another curve ball would come flying out of nowhere. I also love it when you don't really know if a character is a good guy or bad guy and this had more than one well-developed chameleon characters. I alternated between reading the e-book and listening to the audiobook while driving and it was a seamless transition. Easily switched back and forth multiple times. Great narration with the audiobook, which was perfect because I didn't want to stop reading when it was time to do chores or run errands and this allowed me to keep going with the story! Highly recommend for fans of mysteries, psychological thrillers, and Sally Hepworth's other works.

A thriller about secrets, marriage, and betrayal? Sign me up!! I so wanted to finish this in single sitting, but life happened so it took me sometime , but trust me, all those times I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about Gabe and Pippa. What felt like a simple story, suddenly went spiral into the dark. I just love how SH framed the suspense around the characters. The story is told in alternate povs and the suspense just sneaks up on you! You wouldn’t expect it. Highly recommend. 4.25/5

Gabe and Pippa Gerard are soulmates. They live near the edge of a cliff, in an area known as The Drop, where people often come to commit suicide, Gabe has a knack for talking people out of jumping. In fact, no one has died since he and Pippa have lived there. That all changes when a woman named Amanda goes over the cliff and falls to her death. It turns out that Gabe knew Amanda. Why didn't he tell the police this fact? Why does Pippa suspect that Amanda's death may have been neither a suicide nor an accident? This book is packed with secrets - secrets that threaten to tear apart many lives.

The book switches between Amanda and Pippa's viewpoints at different times in the past and present which drove me a little crazy. This was a 3.5-star read for me, but I seem to be in the minority here as other NetGalley reviewers all rated it 5 stars.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a review copy.

Whoa. What an epic page-turner! Numerous twists, turns, and a narrator who is slightly unreliable make for an intriguing read. The characters are so well-developed. Even the secondary characters add depth with their pithy bits of dialog and perfect timing. Gabe is particularly fascinating, yet I wasn't entirely willing to trust him. Pippa thrives in her role as the heroine of the story although Amanda's presence and the scenes from her point of view plant plenty of doubt about Gabe and Pippa's innocence. Then at just the right moment, the author loops us into a nuanced layer of the complicated web of lies and deceit, which leaves me questioning what's true and what isn't. It's so brilliant! If you enjoy domestic thrillers, then you'll want to read The Soulmate. Sally Hepworth has written another incredible novel that will keep you guessing all the way to the end.

The Soulmate

Rating: loved/ 4.5⭐️

Thanks @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advanced digital copy!

This one is worth the hype, and is my favorite of the author’s books (I also loved The Younger Wife). In the author’s typical style of multiple POVs, short chapters, and a small cast of developed characters, the book pulls you in right at the first chapter. I had a hard time putting it down and finished in a day or two, which is quick for me. Pippa’s thought process was super frustrating at times, but that just made the end all the more satisfying.

Go in blind and you won’t regret it!

Thank you NetGalley, St-Martin’s Press and the author Sally Hepworth.
Would you buy a beautiful cottage on a cliff which is a popular spot for people to commit suicide.
Gabe and Pippa did. Gabe comes to the rescue of these people until one day he doesn't.
What happened? Did he push the person? Does he know her?
I totally enjoyed this novel, well written, quick read,

Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

The book showed promise, with Gabe having helped many people and keep them from jumping off the cliff near where Gabe and his wife had recently purchased. Until the day, when Gabe ran to stop another person, to encourage them to step away from the edge, and find a way to get through the turmoil that had sent them to this deadly spot.

Gabe and Pippa had moved their family to this home, and on this day their entire life changed, when Gabe couldn't stop a death. But was it because he had helped cause it? As Pippa watches from the window, what she see's is shocking, Gabe's alone on the cliff, with his hands held up, palms out. What happened and why?

I admit I had a hard time with this book, because of the mental health issue's I think it needs to come with a warning, that it may not be a good choice for many people.

This review is my own personal opinion.
I do want to thank NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read the Advanced Reader Copy. For many this will be an enjoyable read, for some maybe not.

Pippa & Gabe seem to have the perfect life. They buy a cliffside home in Portsea only to find out that the cliff has a reputation and is known as The Drop. People who wish to end their life come there to jump.
In the year that they’ve lived there, seven people have come to do just that but Gabe was able to talk to them and save them. Unfortunately one night he isn’t so lucky but Pippa swears by the way her husband was standing that it looked like he pushed her. But not her Gabe, right?

When questioned by the police, Pippa lies about what she saw that night only to find out later that the woman was Amanda Cameron. She was the wife of Gabe’s former boss. Why didn’t he tell her that he knew the woman? What other secrets could he be hiding?

Although Sally Hepworth is a new to me, I really enjoyed this book and plan to read more of her domestic thrillers. It wasn’t an edge of your seat, can’t stop turning the page, unputdownable book for me. It has an amazing start but I felt like it started to fall flat halfway through. It has some great twists but didn’t deliver that shocked feeling.

Thank you Netgalley & St. Martin’s Press for this ARC of The Soulmate.

The Soulmate by Sally Hempworth took me on a wild ride. Just when I thought I knew what what was going to happen another twist and turn would happen. It kept you at the edge of you seat the whole time.
You are following Gabe and Pippa who appear to be the perfect couple that lives in this gorgeous house by a cliff. What seems to be the perfect couple/perfect house.... but is it all what is seems to be??
The character build up was AMAZING.
I would recomend this book to anyone that enjoys a wild ride for a domestic thriller.
Thank you St. Martin Press for giving me an E-ARC. Also, thank you @libro.fm for adding it to there audiobook selections.

This book officially turned me into a big Sally Hepworth fan. I previously read The Mother's Promise and loved it so right now Sally is 2/2 in five star reads for me. This book was everything I love; a mystery, emotional, and full of twists. I truly did not predict that ending in a million years. I gasped, I cried, I hugged my book and sat there speechless for several minutes. This book addressed so many topics and did so incredibly well.

I did not expect this book to be as thought provoking as it was and I loved that. Before I read this I never thought about the difference between loyalty and fidelity in a relationship and I loved how differently those were portrayed in this novel. I really appreciated the conversation in this book regarding the mental load of motherhood that is put on women even when they aren't the primary caregiver. It's so real and refreshing to see it acknowledged and talked about in a book.

The only thing I wanted more from this book was I really wish there were date stamps on the flashbacks, sometimes it was a bit hard to try to figure out when those flashbacks took place. This didn't detract at all from my understanding of the novel though and I was able to piece together when the different flashbacks were and it did add to the mystery a bit. Overall a total 10/10 that I could not put down and I have already recommended this book to many people just after finishing it.

Sally Hepworth is the queen of domestic thrillers. Her twists are never what I expect them to be, and I really loved her last release, The Younger Wife.

The Soulmate starts off with intrigue - Pippa and Gabe live next to a cliff where people often come to end their own lives. Gabe has taken to trying to save these lost souls and has always succeeded - that is, until a woman shows up one night and ends up at the bottom of a cliff. But all is not as it seems...

Slow burn, layered and not what you would expect. This book is about love and murder- an exploration of the good and bad sides of a marriage. This wasn't my favorite of hers due to an ending that felt quite little lackluster, but overall this was a quick read with short chapters and will definitely leave readers thinking... what would you do? 3.5 stars rounded up to a 4.

This was a fast paced novel and there is definitely a lot to unpack there. I think overall for me there wasn’t much that I loved about it and not much I overly disliked it about. It was an okay book that I didn’t struggle to read and it would be good if you wanted to add a quick read suspense to your TBR

This is my second read from this author, and I’m so glad I enjoyed it much more. This is a domestic thriller, but it also focuses on family dynamics. There were some suspenseful moments, but it’s not your typical kind of thriller.

I highly recommend going into this book completely blind - and possibly checking the trigger warnings as this book focuses a lot on mental health.

I was completely entertained the whole way through and loved the short chapters. We also get dual POVs with Pippa and Amanda. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I’ll just say I found them both interesting to read about - were they the greatest? No, but they were still fun to follow.

I also really enjoyed the atmosphere of this Australian cliff. It was super eerie! There were also many twists throughout the book. I didn’t find all of them shocking, but some did surprise me.

The ending wasn’t my cup of tea. I feel like it didn’t wrap up nicely considering everything the characters went through, but I guess it made sense.

I had a great discussion with a few bookish people about this story. It was definitely entertaining and quick!

Thank you to Sally Hepworth, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of The Soulmate for me to read and review. This is the first book by Hepworth that I've read and wow did I pick a great story to start! The unique family dynamics, mystery, intrigue and suspense were all there in spades in this book. I was constantly questioning whether or not I was seeing the full picture and wondering who could actually be trusted. This story was masterfully written with twists and turns and withheld details, right down to the final pages. The character growth shown by the female main character was excellent! I will definitely be reading more books by Hepworth.

Sally Hepworth does it again!

The Soulmate definitely took a few turns I didn't expect, making it a quick and exciting read. Each new chapter brought more and more to the story, uncovering secrets and lies on all sides of the characters. This is told from multiple points of view, as well as a back and forth timeline of past to present, and while I sometimes found myself annoyed at Pippa, this book explores just how much a woman is willing to do for love.

4/5 stars and thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the digital copy for my review.

CW: mental illness, suicide, infidelity

A twisty and turny domestic thriller that kept me guessing and had a few surprises. This kept me glued to the pages but I struggle when characters are developed one way and act differently. In this case I had issues with Amanda. She is perplexed by spreadsheets but flawlessly and efficiently backs up an entire computer onto a flash drive in seconds. She and Max grew their communication exponentially but then suddenly had none when it mattered most? The ending of this is quite sad and wrapped up rather quickly.

3.5

This book started as a solid 4 stars, it was really good. But I wasn’t a fan of the direction it went. I was looking for more drama, more gossip. I was just waiting for the juiciness. But it was actually really sad. I know the author was portraying a different message, but I found it to be pretty heavy.

Gabe and Pippa move to a lovely cliff side cottage, with amazing views, walking paths…a dream home. Until they realize that people that want to end their lives come to the cliff to jump. But Gabe starts talking them down and saving them. Until he doesn’t save one. Pippa realizes that Gabe knew her. Did she really jump? Did he push her?
