What a roller coaster ride. There isn't a single thing about this book that I didn't like, which is rare. The characters were relatable & likable, also hateable at times. It was beautifully written & put together. I think what I enjoyed most about The Soulmate, aside from the twists & turns, was the alternating perspectives & the jumps between past & present.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy for my honest opinion.
This is my 3rd Sally Hepworth book. As usual, she writes pretty easy to read “popcorn thrillers” — I really enjoyed the first part of the book and felt like it had a lot of potential but parts of it kind of fell flat for me. It was a pretty good read, however, it didn’t really stick with me. I’m still giving it 4 stars though because it was fairly fast paced and enjoyable. Thanks to Netgalley & St. Martins Press for my ARC for an honest review.
I am in the minority here, but this book just did not work for me. I liked the concept and was engaged in the beginning but then everything just felt lacking. The story touched on some pretty heavy subjects, but they were all kind of glossed over. There was no depth in the story or the characters.
This book is not my cup of tea, so for those of you who like this style of book, I wish you well. I've read a few of the Contemporary Mystery genre books and find them a real slog to get through. If you love getting dragged through the minutiae of people's lives, you will love this one. I prefer a real who-done-it to this psychological anal examination of the characters and their "feelings".
Pippa and Gabe are a blissfully happy couple, at least on the surface to everyone around them. They are lying. They have two beautiful daughters, even though one is showing signs of becoming a serial killer. Their home is on a cliff top with a stunning ocean view where people come to commit suicide. Gabe has talked several people out of jumping and has become a local celebrity because of that. Then comes a woman who he can't talk down and suddenly his perfect world is turned upside down.
The woman's death takes a toll on Gabe and particularly, Pippa. When Pippa discovers that Gabe knew the victim and didn't disclose that to the police, she questions all the other things Gabe has kept from her in the past.
The story is told from Pipp's first-person viewpoint and the first-person viewpoint of the lady who died, Amanda. The story is back and forth between the past and the present and makes for an interesting narrative. I didn't care for the first half of the book, but the pace picked up in the second half. 3 1/2-Stars
My thanks to the Publisher and the Author, for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.
Whoa. This book was a twisty-turny, fast plotted, need to know what happens next book. I don't even know if I can give a proper synopsis of this book without giving any spoilers. This book is about murder, marriage, and family secrets. It was such a ride and I enjoyed every minute of it. If you like a fast paced thriller that keeps you on your toes, this book is for you.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for this free ebook in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first Sally Hepworth book and I really enjoyed it! I could not put it down from the first chapter. It starts pretty quickly and hooks you.
Gabe and Pippa by their dream home on a cliff on a coastal town. The cliff they live on is a popular suicide spot. Gabe has talked many down from the cliff until one night he is not successful and a woman falls to her death. After the woman’s death, Pippa starts to question what she sees, her marriage, their life….did Gabe know the woman? Is Gabe hiding something? Is Pipa? What ensues is a twisty journey navigating through, lies, truths, secrets, and more.
I loved the the alternating between before and after. I kept rethinking my theories as I kept going. By the end I figured out one of the twists, but this book kept me guessing and I could not stop reading until I got to the end and everything was revealed.
I will be definitely reading more Sally Hepworth’s books in the future!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Sally Hepworth for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you, @netgalley, @stmartinspress, and the author for the gifted e-arc of this book!
I really enjoyed this domestic suspense novel! It was twisty and full of secrets and lies! I loved how we got POVs from Pippa (now) and Amanda (then). Thanks in part to short chapters, along with the fact that I was totally engaged in this story, I flew through this book!
This was the first Sally Hepworth novel that I've read, and now I'm anxious to read her previous novels, two of which are sitting on my bookshelf!

The Soulmate - Mini Review 🌊⬇️
ARC - Pub Date April 4th
Another great ARC read 😊 Great storyline, strong characters and just overall a good read that you won’t want to put down.
I don’t often like thrillers but I would recommend this one and I will pick up more of Sally Hepworth‘s books.
Also worth mentioning that the chapters are short so you can fit a couple in whenever you have a few minutes 😊
Thank you - Jessie Jarrett
This book was good. Two lines from the book that will make you want more
What is the book about-
Loyalty, infidelity, illegitimate child and mental illness- from the outside just a young family at the beach.
This line sums up the ending perfectly
The thing about happy endings is that they are not always what you expect.
The author did a great job at pulling me into this story and the twist and the ending you think you know but this author is good and you don’t know.
This was my first book by this author, this book is making me head over to bookstore to look for the author backlist
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book!
Definitely worth the read, I could not put this book down. Every twist in this book you will not see coming. I tried to guess what would happen next, and everytime there was a new surprise. Quite an original thriller!
The Soulmate is a fun and twisty domestic thriller that makes for a fabulous escapist read! Told through alternating narratives, this story examines Pippa’s relationship and life with her husband, Gabe. I loved getting to know Pippa in her own words, as well as through an outsider. Hepworth adds in subtle twists and turns that heighten the drama to keep the story feeling addictive.
While at its core this story is a thriller, there is also a depth to it that examines the intricacies of relationships and how far people are willing to go for those that they love. I really enjoyed that between all of the secrets and lies there was an deepdive into dysfunctional relationships.

The Soulmates by Sally Hepworth
My Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5
It is not a secret how I love Sally Hepworth and with that comes how much I love her books too! Her tour schedule can’t get here fast enough because I am excited to see Sally again and talk about Soulmates!
The Soulmates is a story of family secrets and a popular suicide jump spot on a cliff along the coast called the Drop. Up front, it was just a simple and most likely a common story. Two marriages, family secrets, death, betrayals, mental health, family support and a whole lot of complicated connections. What sets this book above the rest for me was the slow unravelling of truths, from different perspective among the characters both dead and alive. Everyone has doubts, has something to hide and every body is loyal to somebody. The twist, the reasons, the relationships and the conflicts. The anticipation of finding the whole truth is what keep me from putting it down. It is that kind of psychological thriller that races your heart rate and gives you goosebumps. I know I have enjoyed it and you will do too!
Special thanks to St Martin’s Press via Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange of my honest review. I highly recommend this read!

Pippa has met her soulmate in Gabe. True, he can be a bit erratic at times, but he's a wonderful father. He changes jobs often, but he's also a great stay-at-home father to their two daughters and Pippa can support them. When they flee the city and their past to live in a seaside house, they fall in love with a house on the edge of a cliff. It's a popular spot for people to end their lives, and Gabe becomes a bit of a hero, talking people off the cliff.
Until one night he is unsuccessful. Worse still, Pippa begins to notice inconsistencies in his story. And when she learns the victim is someone they both knew--and had close ties to--she begins question everything about her life.
Told from multiple points of view, including the observations of the dead woman, this novel is hard to put down. Sally Hepworth is expert at crafting unique stories with unanticipated twists and turns. #TheSoulmate #NetGalley
Domestic drama and a mystery with a touch of the supernatural.
Most thrillers or mysteries start with secrets and lies. Many end with revelations that show exactly why things turned out as they did. This is the same.
Pippa and Gabe Gerard live in their dream home on a cliff of a coastal town. Unfortunately, the cliff is a draw for those wanting to commit suicide by jumping off the edge. Gabe has become somewhat of a legend for talking them away from the ledge. Except for this time. A woman falls to her death. Turns out that this woman was no stranger to Gabe or Pippa. Did she fall or really jump, or was she pushed? Surely Gabe, Pippa's fantastically gorgeous and soulmate of a husband, didn't lie about what happened out there...
This was OK but not as compelling or thrilling as I had hoped. A couple of twists, sure, but it all boils down to some weirdness with this couple -- the biggest which is the mental illness angle. I never really liked any of the characters, and what I expected to happen, happened. An odd note that really jarred was the narration from the point of view of the dead woman. While that little trick works in some great novels (The Lovely Bones), it really didn't work for me here. The time shifts of then and now also disrupt the flow of the story a bit. And the conclusion seemed rushed and sort of a letdown after all the buildup, plus not really believable. Moral of this and every story - stop lying.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e-book ARC to read and review.
The Soulmate is a twisty, domestic thriller with unexpected moments. Every couple has their secrets, but is the husband telling the truth? What really happened that night on the cliff when the woman fell? And is it really the husband hiding a secret or the wife who is too afraid for the truth to come out?
I could not put this book down. With a minimal amount of characters, the focus is entirely on what a couple will do for each other, for their soulmate, in order to keep their seemingly normal lives intact. A quick read with different twists than one expects from a psychological thriller.
I was hooked for the first half of this one. I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t want to see what happened next! However, I feel like it fell off after the halfway point.
I liked the premise of this one, with Pippa and Gabe living in a house that backs up to The Drop, a cliff turned popular suicide spot.
The “twist” wasn’t super surprising but I did like the characters.
This book was hard to put down once I started reading it. The book jumps back and forth between the present and the past. To get the full picture of the story you need it to do that. Take everything you think you know and flip it. This book will keep you guessing.
The Soulmate was a very anticipated read for me and I loved the premise! The author did a great job with character development and I loved the multi POVs and short chapters! The husband is so chaotic which is a nice change in pace from the crazy wife trope in thrillers.
I was so excited when I saw Sally Hepworth was coming out with a new novel because I really enjoyed The Good Sister and want to read quite a few of her others! However, The Soulmate did leave me wanting a bit more by the end and I didn’t find myself wanting to pick it up and fly through it while I was reading it.
I have seen quite a few amazing reviews for this one and I do think you should give it a chance if you like Sally Hepworth’s other books!

This is my review of The Soulmate.
Gabe & Pippa have found their dream home, a cottage on a cliff in their coastal Australian town. But soon they discover that their perfect home hides secrets...tall cliffs that have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night, Gabe manages to come to the rescue of these souls.... coaching them off the ledge until one time he does not.
Pippa was a woman who loved her husband, and put up with more than she should have for the sake of the marriage and her children.
When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, Pippa questions if the victim jumped or was, she pushed?
Pippa tells Gabe that she saw him, through the window, right after the woman jumped, holding his hands out.
Has Pippa's perfect life, with her soulmate, been nothing but a lie?
Then the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.
This novel alternates between two POVs including Pippa (NOW & THEN) and Amanda, the dead woman (BEFORE & AFTER). Their perspectives provide us with enough information about secrets and lies they kept about their marriages.
This fast paced, character driven novel was a very enjoyable read. The author addressed the issue of mental illness and how this illness affects the people who care for them.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press, New York for my digital copy.
When I first started, the titles on the chapters confused me for a bit. I finally caught on as I realized when I was able to get the storyline going. It was interesting how the spirit of a deceased woman was telling her version switching back and forth from present to past.
There are four main characters involved but only two women are the storytellers of this novel. All the characters were interesting. Has you guessing what’s the motive, or was it murder, suicidal, and etc. There may be some that may be triggering subjects for some readers such as, mental health, marriages on the rocks, affairs, and some violences.
Very entertaining, had me guessing for a while, and a quick read for thriller/suspense. However, I just couldn’t connect well like I wanted to with one couple who’s dealing with a certain mental illness. That’s where I was disappointed because one of my relatives has it and I have been dealing with it.
I’d give it a three stars because of that and I know it wouldn’t be that memorable for me down the road.
