5/5 stars!! This has to be one of my favorite Sally Hepworth books so far! You'll want to put this on your TBR!
Sally Hepworth has such a gift of writing some really great psychological thrillers. This one kept me glued to the pages. Unforgettable!
Thank you, Sally Hepworth, St Martin’s Press,, & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
Overall, this was a typical who done it story. I didn't think any of the characters were likable and I struggled rooting for them. It was a quick novel, however, and did have a big finish. I would recommend to some of my friends who do not read thrillers often.
Sally Hepworth is the Queen of Domestic Suspense. All of her novels are filled with twisty, breathtaking suspense and this one was no different. I really enjoyed the coastal setting in The Soulmate and the suspense was heart pounding. Must read.
The Soulmate was a very interesting story about a couple, Gabe and Pippa. They live in their dream house near a cliff which also happens to be where a lot of people go to take their lives. Gabe has become a local hero because he has been able to talk every person down from taking their lives. He works with the police and they are amazed at what he has done. Then one day, there’s a woman standing at the cliff. Gabe goes out to talk to her, Pippa watches from the window. Pippa turns away for a split second and when she looks back, the woman is gone and Gabe is standing with his arms outstretched as though he has pushed her.
As the police investigate who this woman is some things come to light and slowly the truth is revealed. It was very intriguing and I liked how the characters were developed. I find Sally Hepworth does that very well. Out of the four books I’ve read by her, I think this one has the most thrilling storyline.
4.5 ⭐️
The Soulmate is my first Sally Hepworth book I’ve read. Sally - it will not be my last. I really love a fast-paced suspense/thriller novel and The Soulmate hit the mark for me. The chapters are told from two timelines between the main female characters. Pippa (told in Now & Then) and Amanda (told in Before & After).
The twists and turns of marriage, betrayal, mental health, family and “soulmates” kept me up reading at night and engaged in this story the whole time.
Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for a complimentary e-book in exchange for my honest review. #NetGalley #TheSoulmate
I’m not sure what happened to my review on here and goodreads 😭 I read this awhile ago and did my review then so I’m not sure what happened to it but I remember I loved this book. It was my first domestic suspense novel and I enjoyed the characters and pacing which were two of my biggest concerns before starting this. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and will definitely be checking out other works by this author :) 4 stars!
Sally Hepworth’s novels have been hit or miss for me lately, but this was a huge HIT. I was so invested in this story and couldn’t put it down. The story was weaved together so well and I really enjoyed the different POVs – they worked so well together for this story!!
I did see a couple of the twists coming, but overall this was a great thriller and I highly recommend!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press & Netgalley for an e-ARC of this book.

"The Soulmate " by Sally Hepworth
is a gripping psychological thriller that unravels the dark secrets hidden behind the picturesque facade of a dream home. The story follows Gabe and Pippa Gerard, a seemingly perfect couple living in a lovely cottage on a cliff overlooking a sleepy coastal town.
The idyllic setting of their home is marred by a haunting reality - the tall cliffs nearby have become a tragic destination for those seeking to end their lives. Gabe, the protagonist, has taken it upon himself to save these desperate souls, until a mysterious incident shatters the peace of their lives.
When Pippa discovers that Gabe had a connection to one of the victims, doubts and questions arise about the true nature of the tragedies unfolding at the cliffside. The novel delves into themes of deception, betrayal, and self-deception as the couple's relationship is tested to its limits.
As the layers of lies and secrets are peeled away, the reader is taken on a suspenseful journey of uncovering the truth behind the facade of the perfect marriage. "The Soulmate" is a compelling tale that explores the complexities of human relationships and the consequences of buried truths.
With a blend of mystery, intrigue, and psychological suspense, the author crafts a captivating narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the final revelation.
"The Soulmate" is a must-read for fans of thrillers and psychological dramas, offering a chilling exploration of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly peaceful lives.
Can't believe i waited so long to read this masterpiece! I really enjoyed this book. If you need something that will keep you on your seat. This is it.
I’m such a big fan of this author’s work and this one was no exception. It had me guessing until the very end. I also loved the short chapters. I felt like I flew through it!

Loved this one! It was so hard to put down and it kept me guessing until the very end. Sally Hepworth will remain an auto read for me
This wasn’t my favorite book of Sally’s. That isn’t because it wasn’t good. It was. I still very much enjoyed it. I think part of it is because I found it more predictable than her other books, and I felt at times like she was trying to push the twists, rather than just let them arrive naturally. In The Good Sister, the twists felt natural and flowed perfectly in the story. In The Soulmate, it almost felt the opposite.
Even though it was predictable, I still enjoyed parts of the story. Pippa was a very cool character, and the relationship that she holds with her family was amazing to me. I’m super close with my own family, so when I read books where the characters have those same types of relationships, it makes me happy.
Trigger Warnings
The Soulmate does have a couple scenes where they talk about people killing themselves. I don’t remember whether they are specifically stated, or graphically described, but the subject is brought up several times, just because of where Pippa and Gabe live, and the reputation their “backyard” carries.
Timeline
The book is told in two timelines, divided into the various chapters. If you’ve read many of Sally’s books, you’ll be familiar with this, because she uses this technique in most of her books. I don’t always like time jumps in books, but when the author is careful about making it clear what time frame they’re talking about, it helps a lot.
Change in Opinion
I may have started out distrusting Gabe, but since I held that opinion of him through most of the book, I can’t say my opinion changed much about him through the book. I won’t say too much about my dislike of Gabe, because my biggest opinion change happened with Pippa. Again, I’m not gonna spoil it, but by the end of the book my opinion of Pippa, and Amanda to a point, had changed about 3 times each. I went from sympathizing with both of them, to really just wanting to slap their brains back into their heads a couple times.
Biggest Takeaway
My biggest take away from The Soulmate is that we create our own soulmates. I can’t say, based on this book, that love at first sight really exists. Pippa’s experience saying it does causes her to be blind to a lot of things she should have seen. Because she considered Gabe her “soulmate,” she ignored various red flags that I saw as the reader. Her lack of common sense in the area of love was really frustrating.
For example, when I met my husband, he was up front about some personality issues/traits he had, which allowed me to decide with my eyes open whether those traits were something I could live with. I decided I could, and 7 years later, we are happily married, and I still tell people I hit the jackpot. Did I consider him my soulmate when we met? Nope. Do I consider him my soulmate now? Absolutely. Because we’ve gone through the work, and we’ve gone through life together. Those experiences helped us grow and evolve into soulmates and allowed us to keep our eyes open to the various frustrations that come with marriage and relationships.
My Recommendation
I’ve read every Sally Hepworth book and definitely recommend all of them. Even The Soulmate. It was good, even if it wasn’t my favorite. The parts with Amanda were my favorites, because they were what really pushed the story forward.
I am never disappointed with a Sally Hepworth book! Told from different perspectives/voices each chapter, you learn about the marriage and the imperfections and secrets in this family when tragedy strikes near their home.
Loved this one! I am a big fan of alternating viewpoints between past/present day and also between characters and the way that Sally Hepworth did it in this book was fantastic. I was completely enthralled with the story and didn't want to put this book down. Would highly recommend to my friends.
Creepy and atmospheric, The Soulmate is a lot to take in but in a good way. This book is told through two different perspectives and each one kept me guessing and trying to figure out what was really going on the entire time. I had a blast reading this.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Sally Hepworth is an auto-read author for me, never has a book of hers disappointed me, this book included. Truly an enjoyable read.
I was so excited to get an advanced copy from NetGalley.
This did not disappoint! You never know what someone is really thinking even if you think you know them so well! It was a bit predictable but that took nothing away from the excitement. I like to go in blind and be surprised from the start so I don’t want to give anything away. Great page turner.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve read several books by Sally Hepworth and enjoyed them all. She’s an amazing storyteller! This one didn’t hold quite the punch of some of the previous ones but I liked that it was different. It’s not really a thriller, it’s more of a domestic suspense mystery inside a story about a marriage. In the end, It’s a story about a woman learning to be an independent person outside of her roles as a wife and mother. I appreciate this really interesting take on the domestic suspense novel.
The story begins with a woman falling to her death from a cliff near Gabe and Pippa’s home. From there we go back and forth between Now and Before from the perspectives of Pippa and Amanda (the woman who died) and ALL the secrets are revealed. The chapters are short and this one is easy to zip through.
