Phew, Sally Hepworth is a master. I will read captivating story she writes and she is a go to recommend for me. This was another crazy ride with and end I didn't see coming. I *almost* dnfed this at a cheating storyline but I am so glad that I kept going.
I really enjoyed this book, but it didn't pull all of the "wow" factors for me, and I had suspicions as to what was happening and going on in the book, so in my opinion some of the twists felt a little predictable. I agree with others' in that at times the book had one too many twists, which in my opinion helped led to some of the twists being slightly predictable. I do think the book touched on postpartum and mental illness in a very classy way, and explained the real feelings and emotions that come with postpartum and having more children after a bad experience.
This wasn’t my favorite, but I didn’t hate it. I think the story felt a bit more contrived than her others. I’m optimistic that her next one will be better!
Sally Hepworth is one of my auto-buy authors. All of her books are so much fun to read and THE SOULMATE was no exception. This story was told in alternating timelines with a pretty interesting twist that you’ll find out as you read. The characters were well-developed and the plot moved along at a nice pace. I would recommend this to any reader looking for a fun thriller.
Sally Hepworth always delivers a twisty tale that keeps you guessing until the very last reveal. This was no exception. From the very first scene where a woman is standing at the edge of a tall cliff and known jumping spot, I was sucked in. Told in alternating viewpoints and timelines, I was engaged the entire time!
This was such an interesting and twisty read! I was so intrigued to constantly know what was gonna happen next, and I loved that Amanda’s story was also included from the “after” viewpoint. A solid thriller!
Wow this was a great book!! There were so many twists and turns and I loved it. The back and forth timeline and povs got a bit confusing at times but overall absolutely loved this book!!
I’m usually a Sally Hepworth fan, but this one was a miss for me. It felt long and dragged a bit for me.
Sally knows how to write about family dynamics, health issues and add an amazing “didn’t see that coming” ending! What would you do for the one you love? This is what I kept coming back to as I read Pippa and Gabe’s story and how Pippa’s family is a constant presence for her. The twist and turns beg you to keep reading and you won’t be disappointed. Thanks Sally for another excellent story!
You can’t go wrong with books by Sally. Gripping and leaves you on the edge until the very last page.
This twisty thrilled had me under its spell until the end. I love when the twist blindsides me- what a talented novelist Hepworth is! SO looking forward to her next book. Many thanks!
Having recently finished the previously published ‘The Soulmate’ by Sally Hepworth, I am happy to have had the chance for the Advanced Reader’s Edition e-copy; thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press!
This absorbing story of dysfunction and instability grabs a hold of you at chapter one and does not let go... until the ultimate cliff-hanging reveal of secrets at the end. This was also the perfect title for another entertaining story by Ms. Hepworth!
A compulsively readable, suspenseful story I had a hard time putting down. I loved the alternating chapters between Pippa and Amanda. I think they propelled the story forward even more. The absolute best part was the jaw dropping ending. I mean - wow!
Don’t miss this one if you are a fan of the Sally Hepworth’s books
Many thanks to the publisher for my gifted copy.
3.5 stars
Sally Hepworth knows how to show me a good time. I always enjoy picking up her new novel as I know I’m in for an addictive, page-turning tale of domestic suspense.
And her latest, "The Soulmate," is another solid read. Pippa and Gabe’s story sucked me in from the start, partly because I couldn’t quite fathom how a couple would continue to live in a cottage on a cliff that’s a known suicide spot. Again and again, people show up on the cliff intending to jump, and again and again, Gabe takes it upon himself to talk them down. (Um, why? Why would you accept that responsibility? And also, why would you live there with your children?)
So yes, the premise is a bit illogical because most people wouldn’t do as Pippa and Gabe do, but if you can look past this aspect, the story will then really begin to pick up when Gabe fails to save the latest would-be jumper and Pippa finds herself questioning her husband’s role in the victim’s death.
I enjoyed "The Soulmate" quite a bit, though I’m only giving it 3.5 stars because it’s just not as good as Hepworth’s "The Good Sister." A memorable character like Fern Castle is tough to beat.
My sincerest appreciation to Sally Hepworth, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the digital review copy. All opinions included herein are my own.
Sally Hepworth is always worth my time and The Soulmate is no exception. A page turner with a few unexpected turns.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance release copy of this book!
A wonderful domestic suspense with varying timelines, interwoven stories of couples and little clues of what’s to come sprinkled throughout the story. Just when I thought I had things figured out the author would send me in a new direction. The varying timelines had me a bit confused at first but I was able to pretty quickly catch on to how the story was being told and enjoyed this unique approach.
Pippa, her husband Gabe, and their children can see a cliff that is infamous for people committing suicide from their home window. Gabe has a history of intervening in other’s plans to jump. One day, Gabe rushes to the cliff when he sees a woman, Amanda, standing there but Amanda ultimately plunges to her death. The Soulmate is written from Pippa and Amanda’s alternating and intertwined points of view. It was a well written book and a quick read which will make you question how well you truly know the people closest to you and how far you would go to protect them.
The Soulmate, by Sally Hepworth, was a quick and easy read. While I have enjoyed many of her books, this one was just ok - it was hard to get invested in the characters, and while the plot had drama in the dynamics between characters, it wasn’t overly suspenseful or twisty. Overall, a decent read if you are looking for a domestic drama that doesn’t require a lot of investment to enjoy.
Thrilling, suspenseful and twisty, the Soulmate was a book I couldn’t put down until I was done reading it. The scene of most of the book is a cliff side where many people have chosen to end their lives voluntarily, so it was the perfect set up for a domestic thriller. And it begs that age old question of how well can you really know someone. I’d recommend this one definitely!
I didn't finish this book. I wasn't invested in the characters and was unable to connect with the characters. I am still open to reading more Sally Hepworth in the future, but was not intrigued by this one.
