This started as a slow burn but eventually picked up speed with a turn I didn’t see coming. I love Sally Hepworth, and this title was no different than her previous. I loved it.

3.5/5 Gabe and Pippa live in a cottage on a cliff. Beautiful scenery but a downside because the cliff has been known to attract people who want to jump and end their life. Gabe does his best to talk people down from jumping but this last time he wasn't able to stop the woman. The problem is Pippa was watching her husband talk to the woman from the cottage window and it looked as if Gabe pushed her. Page turning, alternating points of view between Pippa and the woman who jumped. I was into the story but just a little dissatisfied by the ending. I really don't know what I wanted differently but my initial reaction when reading the last page was, huh.

This is a perfect suspenseful thriller! It will leave you on edge until the very end with multiple twists and turns!
Gabe and Pippa move to a coastal area in an extravagant house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The cliff has become a known suicide spot. Gabe has become well known in the community as someone that helps anyone he sees going to the spot. He will ask if they want to talk and hopefully help them walk away from the cliff. Until one night…
A woman comes to the cliff and Gabe went to talk to her, one thing leads to another and she was gone. Was her death a suicide or was she pushed?
The unraveling and layering of what happens next will leave you wanting more. You won’t want to book this book down.
The ending leaves you just saying WOW!
Such a great book!

Gabe and Pippa seem to be the perfect pair. The perfect image of being soulmates. They had their perfect house to start over, but it came with a terrible story. Their cliff had become the popular spot for people to end their lives. Since moving in, Gabe had heroically saved many lives, but one woman he could not save. When Pippa finds out there is a connection between the victim and Gabe, things begin to unravel. Pippa begins to question everything as secret after secret begins to break everything down.
Warning: put your seatbelt on for this one because it is one hell of a roller coaster ride. Sally absolutely does it again. I was whipped in every different direction on this one and absolutely loved it. This twisty novel kept me engaged and at times I honestly could not put this book down. Each time I thought I knew which direction this book was going, my head was whipped in the other direction. This one had the twists and turns and her perfect delivery of family drama.

This book was probably closer to a 5⭐️ until the end, which left me so disappointed. I was so invested in the characters and their mystery and drama. Their relationships were so dysfunctional and frustrating… yet I couldn’t stop reading. I couldn’t put the book down… and then the end happened. And I hated it. I wish I stopped reading around the 75% mark. The end was boring and left me so unfulfilled. So a warning to all, if you’re loving the book, you may not love the ending. But still worth reading!
Thank you NetGalley for my advanced reader copy.

This was my first Hepworth book and I found the writing incredibly binge worthy, especially with the short chapters. The concept was unique and the execution was so well done. The secrets and twists made this a suspenseful read. Thank you for the ARC!

Not my favourite of Sally's works, but it was still an entertaining read. Unfortunately, by the time the storyline hooked me, I was ready to push them all off the cliff.

I really did enjoy this book. This is the third book I've read by Sally Hepworth and this one was full of twists and turns. It was a bit of a slow burn but not so slow I lost interest. I know some people may find some aspects of this story disturbing, but it was done in such a way you shouldn't get put off by the sensitive topic. While I didn't exactly see the big reveal coming, I wasn't entirely thrilled with the ending. I felt like the whole build up was almost for nothing. It was almost rushed. Overall, I give it four stars.

Triggers: infidelity and suicide

Author Sally Hepworth hit the mark again with her latest release. I have read and reviewed two other of her works. Her novels have a way of sucking the reader in, get the reader excited with all the twists and turns, have their head reeling with how the story will end and then surprising them with an ending they didn't see coming.
"The Soulmate" was no different. This story follows Pippa and Gabe- husband and wife with two children who live in a cottage near a cliff. The cliff is a known spot for suicide jumps, and Gabe is usually very good at talking people off a ledge, literally. But a woman didn't make it. That fact is eating Gabe from the inside out. Pippa is trying all she can to help him get past his deep regret and sadness.
We also follow Amanda, the woman who died falling from the cliff. It turns out Amanda knew both Pippa and Gabe. The stories she tells from her past slowly start to show the reader that Pippa and Gabe don't have the perfect life that they show the world.
Pippa also learns that Gabe knew the "jumper" and starts to questions if she truly knows her husband.
This story was wild and unexpected. At no point did I know what was going to happen next. There were shocking plot twists that turn the entire story upside down and made me wonder how on earth it could be related to the overall plot, but in the end it all came together seamlessly.
Drug addiction, infidelity, power struggles, criminal enterprises, and strong family bonds are the themes sprinkled through this roller coaster of a book!
"The Soulmate" is set to be released here in the U.S. on April 4, 2023 so pre-order now! It was a 5 star read!
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me an advanced digital copy to read and give my honest review.
Happy Reading!

This was a page turner for sure! I wasn’t able to guess how it would end because it was just that good. This explores the topic of mental illness from the side of the family trying to help someone through it. It’s not often that a book like this takes the time to really flesh out that side of a story. This is definitely Sally Hepworth’s best book yet!

The Soulmate
By Sally Hepworth
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't want to put it down and couldn't wait to get back to it when I had to step away.
Imagine seeing your husband trying to save someone about to jump off a cliff to their death, unfortunately unsuccessful though. But as you noticed the woman has jumped, you also notice your husband's hands are in a weird position. More like a push, than a pull. Are your eyes playing tricks?
Then layer you find out your husband actually knew the woman. In fact, you actually knew the woman.
Do you keep your mouth shut, or find out more? How devoted can one be to their Soulmate?
This twisty book isn't as straight forward as you might think and things aren't quite as they appear!
Touching on marriage, betrayal, friendship and devotion, as well as mental health, this book has great pacing, kept me interested and I would recommend!

This was fine. It’s not going to be memorable, it is exactly as predictable as you’d expect, and the characters are complicated and unreliable. Perfect chilly weekend read-in-one-sitting book, but it’s a “check out from the library” book for me and not a “I have to own this” book.
TY to St. Martin’s press for the ARC. I enjoyed it.

To start with, I am predisposed to loving all of [author:Sally Hepworth|8123141]'s books. I know what I'm in for, I know that I'll be entertained, engrossed, enthralled and delighted.
I was absolutely all of the above with this book. From the start I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down. I picked it up while waiting for my husband to be ready to watch a show. When he was ready, I was not. GAH! I don't know how she does it, but this author has a way of digging RIGHT into relationships, family, life, this crazy world we're living in, and just serving it to us on a platter that we can't refuse to eat from.
Some parts of the book that really resonated with me:
- When Pippa is with a group of mothers/wives and they're all slandering their husbands, trying to compete to have the worst. She doesn't participate and feels like an outsider. This is very much me. I don't really understand the need for people to do this, to slander their spouses. If I'm going to do that, I'm going to to it to my husband directly. ;)
- Any and all references to Line of Duty. YES!
- "What strike me most now is the audacity of people, walking around with such certainty while armed with only the scantest information." The Dunning-Kruger Effect embodied in once sentence!
- Talking about how in death, perspectives, backstories, they all change. "With perspective, you lose glorious things like self-righteousness, self-pity. You still feel deceived and hurt, but they swim among other, more compelling emotions, like understanding, and empathy, and concern. Emotions you don't necessarily want to feel for those who have caused you pain."
- And the final line, I won't copy it here. It is perfection.
Go, read this book, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth!
This is the first book I've read from this author and let me tell you, I thought it was amazing!!! Are you looking for adventure, mystery and even some thrills? This book will not leave you hanging!
Gabe and Pippa have been married for years and recently moved into their beautiful new house next to a cliff .... an extremely dangerous drop. Visitors to the cliff tend to jump, or arrive wanting to until Gabe becomes famous in town for helping prevent people from chosing so. Until one day a mysterious woman appears. Gabe runs to help her away from the ledge but soon enough she falls......or is she pushed? The Soulmate tells the story of love, betrayal, misconception, trust, marriage, secrets and so much more from the point of view of Gabe, his wife Pippa and Amanda, the woman who "jumped".
I really enjoyed the authors use of past-present and alternate character views. The story while full of excitment and mystery flowed so extremely well and just when you think you know what is happening or where it is going, you really have no idea. Excellent!!!

This thriller held my attention and kept me turning the pages, but too much of it felt inauthentic or off-putting for me to recommend it highly.

I received a complimentary ARC of this excellent novel from Netgalley via St. Martin's Press and the author Sally Hepworth. This was a novel that could make you stop and re-assess your own mental health. I felt compelled to miss sleep rather than postpone the end of this suspenseful tale. I always enjoy Sally Hepworth - with The Soulmate I learned something new through her.

I’m going to have to give the author kudos for writing a story that completely kept me engaged throughout the complete book. I literally went through many emotions and thoughts and ideas and…..well, I just had to keep reading to figure out what the characters were up to!
What intriguing, peculiar and strange characters wrapped up in a totally incredible story!
To sum it up:
You need to get The Soulmate and read it.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

For me, Sally Hepworth has become synonymous with domestic thrillers. She writes about flawed characters in their relationships with partners, families, neighbors, and coworkers. And of course, there is always the twist of a mystery to add suspense!
In 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞, Gabe and Pippa are living in their dream home with their two beautiful girls. But the house happens to be near a cliff that plummets to the ocean below - in fact, many have come here to jump to their death.
Gabe has actually talked several would-be jumpers down. But on this particular night, Pippa witnesses Gabe interact with a woman - a woman who jumped - or did she?
What follows is a spiral into Gabe and Pippa’s marriage - infidelity, obsession, and mental illness. They have ensnared another couple into their circle of chaos, and the results are twisted, terrifying, and deadly.
It begs the question of what you would do for your soulmate, and when you have gone too far. This is a chilling read, and the audiobook is done very well - highly recommend it.
Thank you @stmartinspress for a gifted ebook and @macmillanaudio for a complimentary audiobook.

A solid psychological thriller from Sally Hepworth. Just the right amount of twists & turns, complete with a last-minute shocker, "The Soulmate" is a great beach read or a cozy choice when curling up at night. I thought the characters development was good & they were relatable. I enjoyed the Australian setting as well as the dual point-of-view narration. I definitely could not have predicted the final pages of this one, which is everything I hope for in a thriller!

A book full of twists, it kept me guessing. I loved the character development and the multiple points of view.
