I highly recommend The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth for anybody that likes a good twisty domestic thriller. Told between two point of views, the action and story carries us between two timelines that blend together with a satisfying meeting at the middle. That is when all secrets are revealed and we get to the desert of the story. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy Amanda's before/ after pov but I think it was well done and written in a way that it adds a unique twist to the story. Compulsive and addictive read.

I finished this incredible read in one day and all I can say is WOW! I truly thought I had it all figured out, but I definitely did not put some of the puzzle pieces together correctly. And honestly? I'm kind of glad that I didn't. I so enjoyed the twists that I totally saw coming, but those that checked the heck out of me? Yeah, so much better!

I could not read this book fast enough. I just had to know what the heck was going to happen.. then I realized I was only 10 percent in… I was that hooked!

I mean I just started the book and was already telling everyone this was a book they HAD to read. I was so bummed it wasn’t a buddy read because I wanted
…no NEEDED someone to talk to everytime a new piece information dropped.

Gabe and Pippa move into their dream home. There is a beautiful cliff and they soon learn is known as “The Drop”. It attracts a lot of people and not for its beauty. Gabe becomes a savior, almost like a guardian angel on earth . People come with intentions to end their life but he is able to talk many people off the edge and save save them… all but one.

The couple soon discover who the victim is. As more and more questions come up.. more secrets are revealed… the question begs to be asked…was her death actually an accident!?

I tell you I am not exaggerating when I say as I read this book,I was jaw dropped as I got more pieces to this puzzle. I did not see the twists coming. This book is a rollercoaster and let me tell you.. you want to get on the ride.

This thriller is addicting and an absolutely exceptional. You can expect so much, there is marriage, friendship, betrayal, shady business, heartbreaking effect of mental illness and the strength of family and community.

This domestic suspense novel follows a couple, Pippa and Gabe, who move with their kids into a house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The cliff is a well-known suicide spot, and Gabe has made it his mission to talk people down from the edge, even becoming known locally for succeeding at it. When a woman falls to her death and Gabe becomes cagey and evasive, Pippa begins to question whether Gabe had something to do with it.

The story is told through multiple perspectives in a before-and-now style in short chapters, which creates excellent pacing. I was intrigued by the couple’s backstory, as well as the story of the woman who dies. Even though I could guess at some things, the reveals are mostly surprising and timed with devastating precision. The details that come to light make the reading worthwhile.

Though a lot did work for me, not everything did. For one, the portrayal of Gabe's mental illness felt a bit cliché and oversimplified. I’m not sure why it would have taken so long to get to his actual diagnosis when he was exhibiting rather clear symptoms that even his wife could see. Also, I was confounded by Pippa’s denial and willingness to overlook her husband’s issues and infidelity. She’s a lawyer and certainly wouldn’t have been so easily snowed. I wish Pippa had been stronger throughout, and that the author had found other ways to keep Gabe and Pippa enmeshed.

Sally Hepworth is a master of writing domestic suspense, and this is one of the strongest novels of hers that I’ve read. Overall, I found this to be a compelling read and would recommend it, though take care if you have any sensitivity around the topic of suicide.

Another stellar book from Sally Hepworth! The story is told from two points of view, Pippa and Amanda, and moves back and forth between the present and the past. Amanda’s perspective is very different, interesting and unique. There’s marital drama, suspense, secrets, lies, mental illness and suicide. On some level, both Pippa and Amanda are grappling with a question of what they will tolerate in their marriages and how far they will go to support their husbands. This book keeps you engaged until the end because you just have to know the truth of what really happened that day at The Drop.

The Soulmate was a great twisty, shocking read! I loved that is told from 2 wives perspectives. Both of them really love their husbands but obviously one of them is not what he seems. I went back and forth all the way to the last couple chapters.

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel and I have to say I enjoyed it. I don't know if I would label it as a thriller but more of a honest picture of a marriage and the downfalls and who really is your soulmate.
Super fast read and I will read more of her books in the future.

3.5 stars rounded up. This was a good mystery that was told in different POVs and timelines until the ‘before’ POVs reached the event that started the book. It was an interesting format that was a little confusing at first but made more sense as it played out. The chapter headings had clear labels as well to help keep the timelines sorted. I will say, I did not understand Pippa’s devotion to Gabe. While there’s no shame or fault in mental illness, and definitely none in supporting someone through it, the things he put her through separate from that were enough that anyone could be forgiven for choosing to walk away. The death in this book was ultimately tragic in its senselessness, and I’ll also say that I didn’t love one part of the end because it almost romanticized things to a point I wasn’t comfortable with. The final chapter was a satisfying one for me though.

I didn’t fly through this one in anticipation of finding answers, but it did hold my interest pretty much the entire way through.

This was an okay read for me. Fast paced, which I did like. I am hit or miss with this author with the five books that I have read by her and this one falls in the middle.

The book is full of lies and secrets and a not so good marriage between Pippa and Gabe. This wasn't really thrilling to me. It's more of a drama that was trying really hard to be a thriller (and failing.)

I'm a fan of Sally Hepworth's books, and while this upcoming release wasn't a favorite, it was a solid read. There's some back and forth perspectives, mysterious circumstances to unravel, and a slight twist I didn't actually see coming. All in all, three and a half stars!

This book is told on the timelines of "Then" and "Now" and we follow 2 couples, Gabe and Pippa, and Max and Amanda. Gabe and Pippa have moved into a house on a cliff but what they didn't realize when they moved in is that it is a popular place for people to come to end their lives. Gabe usually can talk the people off the ledge until one day he doesn't. When Pippa finds out that Gabe knew the victim things start to spiral. As the couples storylines merge things become more complicated and nothing is what it seems.

Sally Hepworth’s latest offering is not only a mystery but also a portrait of two marriages. Pippa and Gabe are young parents, newly relocated to a small Australian coastal village. Amanda and Max are an older, affluent society duo. The Soulmate is written from the alternating viewpoint of the two wives - one posthumously. As the clues are laid out, both sets of soulmates are laid bare and the secrets revealed undercut both couples’ path to a happily ever after. The multifaceted mystery is well-paced and the characters ring true, making realistic choices in the face of stress and adversity.

Pippa and Gabe live in a beautiful cottage at the edges of a cliff in a quiet little town. Although it’s an idyllic location, desperate people are inexplicable drawn here who jump to their deaths. After moving here Gabe finds he is able to make a connection with them, to spot someone who hesitates, to quietly approach and engage them and help…until one night he can’t. As Pippa watches from the window it looks like Gabe actually pushes the woman…but that can’t be right?! What’s more confusing is when she realizes Gabe knew her.

Hepworth asks a question “How well do we really know the person we’re spending our lives with?”. As we flash back to fill in the beginnings of Pippa and Gabe’s relationship, complicated dynamics that become more apparent as they move past the initial glow, and find out what really led to their move to the “idyllic cottage on the cliff” we begin to wonder if this is a marriage under stress or if there’s something more sinister going on. I love how Hepworth draw me in with settings I want to melt into, characters that are approachable, investing me entirely, before she turns the focus ever so slightly and I realize that I’m sunk until I figure out what’s happened…and it’s never until I turn the last page friends!

The Soulmate is perfect for your upcoming warm weather getaway, or a weekend binge read. I recommend for lovers of suspense fiction, Stacy Willingham, and Rachel Hawkins!

One of my favorite books by Sally Hepworth. I thought it was very well written, very suspenseful! I finished it in 24 hours!!!!

I loved the Younger Wife so I was excited to get my hands on the Soulmate. Unfortunately Sally Hepworth’s latest was a bit of a miss for me.

Note: if suicide is a trigger for you then you’ll probably want to skip the Soulmate.

The story started out strongly. Pippa and Gabe recently bought a house near a cliff called the Drop which is infamous as a place for suicide. Gabe has managed to rescue several people from taking the jump. But on this particular day a woman jumped. Or did she? Pippa happened to look out the window and noticed Gabe’s arms outstretched which gets her wondering what exactly happened.

The chapters alternate between the past and present day and between Pippa and Amanda, who we learn is the woman who died. The chapters were short and how they jumped around between the past and present and between Amanda and Pippa made things feel a bit disjointed. A lot of time was spent on the back stories, which was important to the story, but I found it boring.

Things picked up at the end but by this point I wasn’t connected to the story or to the characters. Some of the so called twists were pretty obvious and a few things seemed to tie together too neatly. The final twist wasn’t all too compelling and left me feeling a bit disappointed that that was all there was.

Overall I felt really underwhelmed and thought the Soulmate was just ok. I enjoyed some of Hepworth’s previous novels so I will definitely give her another chance in the future.

I love everything I’ve read by Sally Hepworth! Most enjoyable for me is her use of complicated relationships that add drama to the twisting-turning mystery without being anywhere near consideration as a romance book.

I have had the pleasure of participating in a digital author talk with Hepworth and audiobook narrator, Barrie Kreinik. Both are wonderfully down-to-earth to the point you’d want to be instant friends while never imagining the imagination they both have for character development!

4 out of 5 stars and my respect to the author for writing another winner!

This may have just become my favorite Sally Hepworth novel. With multiple POVs and a back-and-forth timeline, I became so invested in both Pippa's and Amanda's stories. As the novel unfolded I found my opinions changing on who I thought was guilty of what and what I thought really happened. I was not prepared for the ending!

Sally Hepworth has something in her writing that can capture and engross the reader completely. I really enjoyed that was told in dual POVs of Pippa and Amanda with alternating timelines. I found Amanda’s perspective intriguing because it’s told from before and after her death. Pippa’s perspective wasn’t as captivating, but it was very revealing of her character and her marriage to Gabe. I found the story completely mind grabbing, fully immersing myself into these characters. The twists that happened were unexpected, but realistic. I am convinced that Hepworth is the Queen of domestic suspense and if you haven’t read any of her books, you need to. This story is filled with secrets, betrayals, and several shocking twists, making it extremely hard to put down. Overall, I highly recommend this to any thriller lover.

This is not my favorite read by Hepworth. Its a fast-paced story where the reader gets to live vicariously through people whose lives are a wreck.

My questions - why would you buy a house near a spot notorious for jumpers looking to end their lives?!?!?! Also, can we also stop portray mental illness as you've to be unhinged or murderous??!?!

Some stuff in this book made no sense to me. I will continue to read Hepworth's books as I've enjoyed her previous stories just NOT this one.

Sally is the QUEEN of domestic thrillers and I honesty think this is my favorite book by her. I love the way the drama starts right from the start and the twists are revealed all the way until the end. I loved the multiple points of view especially Amanda.
