I did enjoy the writing and the twist at the end but felt like the middle part dragged on a little bit.

Another great read by Sally Hepworth! I really love this author’s writing and her ability to weave a story together. The Soulmate follows two different couples alternating between the past and present and how their lives intersect. I loved this dynamic of the story and the short chapters. It made the story fly for me and I couldn’t wait to see how everything would come together. I thought this was a great story about marriage and how each one is different and the lengths people will go to for their spouse. I enjoyed this read overall, but I did think the ending was a little anticlimactic and sad which was unexpected.

My first Sally Hepworth novel and now I can't wait to read more by her!

First of all, I adored the setting. Gabe and Pippa live in a house on a cliff in the small seaside town of Portsea, close to Melbourne. Portsea is popular for the beach, scuba diving and surfing. It makes sense then that Pippa and Gabe relocated to this sleepy, quiet town to get a fresh start with their two daughters. As Gabe overcomes the past he is a stay at home dad and Pippa is an estate lawyer. Pippa's sister and parents also moved to be close by. Life honestly, seems picture perfect at the start.

One day a woman approaches the cliff edge behind their house (a popular suicide spot!). Gabe goes out to talk to her hoping to talk her back from the edge since he has convinced 6 people to change their mind since they moved into the house. However, she jumps... or is she pushed?

Life spirals and dark secrets come to the surface as the death of the woman is explored. Pippa questions everything she knows and even doubts what she remembers from the day itself.

I really enjoyed this novel and devoured it quickly. Not an edge-of-your-seat thriller but more a domestic suspense novel. I thoroughly enjoyed uncovering the past and how all the characters were connected. Flashbacks to "then" from "now" helped us piece together the truth and added extra depth to the novel. Additionally, this helped with pacing and provided more of a show then tell atmosphere. Definitely suggest people add this to their summer reading!

Twisty, sophisticated, and suspenseful!

The Soulmate is a gripping domestic thriller that delves into the intricate, entangled bonds that exist between friends and family members and reminds us that everything is not always as it seems and behind all those smiles and happy faces often hides an abundance of lies, secrets, and swirling emotions.

The writing is ominous and tight. The characters are complex, troubled, and secretive. And the plot, told from alternating perspectives, is sinister and tense as it twists, turns, and unravels all the actions, motivations, personalities, and relationships within it.

The Soulmate, at its core, is a novel about life, love, loyalty, family, marital discord, mental illness, parenthood, friendship, and deception. It’s intense, menacing, enthralling, and, without a doubt, another fantastic page-turner by Hepworth you don’t want to miss.

I was fortunate enough to get this one via Netgalley and it didn't disappoint! I love Sally Hepworth - how she can include twists in her books but not put them there just for shick value. She has a way of making them seem organic and doesn't need to club you over the head with exposition. I will say Pippa drove me nuts in this book. But that's on me, I've had that pathetic blind devotion to significant others. I wanted to shake her!

Sally Hepworth has long been a favorite author of mine. It seems I can always count on her for a book that is twisty, fast-paced, and entertaining, and The Soulmate is no exception. The story follows a few people. First, there is the married couple, Gabe and Pippa. They have two children, Asha and Freya, and they live on some cliffs known as "The Drop." It seemed idyllic when they were looking to buy the house, but little did they know that this was going to be an area where people come to commit suicide, by jumping off the cliffs into the water. Gabe has been dubbed "the suicide whisperer" as he has helped several people, with some advice and help from the local police, make the decision not to jump. This all changes one day when a woman comes to the cliffs and falls to her death, with Gabe right there, watching. Her so-called suicide implodes Gabe's world, as all kinds of secrets start to come to light. The woman was named Amanda, and she was the wife of Max, who used to work with Gabe. There were business deals that went south, and Gabe eventually gave up the life of money and investing to be a stay at home dad to Freya and Asha. We start to learn that Gabe has manic episodes and has been diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar, there is a secret love child, affairs, and more. Gabe and Pippa definitely don't have the picture perfect life that so many people think they have. Overall, this was a quick and entertaining read. The chapters are short, and I thought it was interesting that we got Amanda's perspective throughout the story, even though she dies in the beginning. One thing that took a little getting used to was the different perspectives in each chapter, especially because they jumped back and forth in time. I did spend the whole book wondering what really happened to Amanda, and overall, I thought the ending was satisfying. Most of the characters in this book are pretty toxic, though, especially Gabe. We're taken on a ride from domestic thriller to a thriller involving wealthy businessmen who will do anything to protect their money and themselves. Things really start getting heated when Max is looking for a USB that Gabe supposedly has. I give this one 3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars on here and Goodreads. Thank you to the publisher for giving me a chance to read an early copy of this book.

The Soulmate is a good story, it is engaging and keeps you interested all the way to the end. Something I love about Sally Hepworth’s writing style is that she tells you a lot but not enough to figure out everything from the beginning, so you are still trying to guess the ending. She leaves little one liners that you can easily miss but add a lot of intrigue to her stories if you catch them. I would say that this story is not groundbreaking, but it is interesting enough to still make you think and enjoy the story. The characters are likable and relatable, the plot is good, the descriptions are interesting but not overdone. I liked the dual POV, the only issue I had was sometimes it was hard to keep track of which characters knew what secrets. The story has a “happy” ending, but sometimes happiness is different than what we originally expect. I am rating it 3.5 stars rounding up to 4.

4.5 stars for The Soulmate!

I’m just going to start off by saying I love Sally Hepworth, I love her books, her writing style, and her quirky characters…did I love this one?
YEP!

The plot was super interesting & the setting was great! It was fast paced with short chapters, which made it super bingeable.

I was hooked from the very beginning, and the book started off with a bang that kept me guessing the whole time…when a book has my brain turning in circles right away it’s pretty much a winner.

I loved the dual POVs- it had me fully invested in the characters and their interesting & mysterious lives.

One of the things Hepworth does so so well is she gives us amazing characters in all her books…whether you love or hate them, or no matter how big or small of a role they play, I think she is one of the masters at creating people you just want to keep reading about.

…and twisted, dramatic families with secrets is her specialty, which is what we get in The Soulmate!

Gabe and Pippa have bought a family home for themselves and their 2 daughters that just happens to be a hot spot for suicides. Gabe has become somewhat of a town cliffwhisperer, where he saves people from jumping to their deaths by just going out and talking to them. One night a woman in out there but gabe isn’t able to save her but what did Pippa see? Did the women jump? Did she have some help?
I have liked some Sally Hepworth books and others I haven’t liked as much but this one was just not for me. The ending was just so far fetched and also, why by a house where people jump to their deaths from frequently? It’s a known thing before they bought it and since they moved in 7 people have tried. Seems weird. I liked the writing and the style the story was told, I just didn’t care for the story much. 2 stars for me. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you @netgalley @stmartinspress and @macmillan.audio for my e-arc and ALC of THE SOULMATE by @sallyhepworth ! This books publishes April 4!

I have read 4 ( including this one!) of Sally’s books, and have enjoyed them all! They are always full of lots of shocking twists, family drama, secrets, and are fairly fast paced!

I also grabbed this one in my March BOTM box, and I was reading the author’s note at the back of the book… basically she was in lockdown in Australia for months and months and her and her girlfriends were surviving on how they loved their husbands… but also wanted to murder them 😆 and that’s where her idea for this book came from!

I listened to this book in one day, becaus I could not stop! I had to know what was happening next! I love that in books, especially in thrillers! Sally’s books, especially the endings reveal all the secrets, and most of them are so shocking, and you don’t see coming! I don’t think this one had quite the shock factor that I felt in her other books I have read, but I still really enjoyed this one!

Wowee! First, I'm starting this review with a quick acknowledgement that I got access to this book by being sent an ARC from NetGalley.

Okay, now onto the review. I read this book in one sitting. I thought it was incredible. The story was simple in a way - Amanda dies, but you don't really know how until the very end. However, there were complexities and twists added every now and then that made me literally GASP. As soon as we had a POV by Amanda, I knew I was going to love this book. It reminded me of The Lovely Bones in the way of having a narration done by the person who dies.

Overall, I loved this book a lot. I would recommend it to anybody who loves a twisty and suspenseful dramatic read.

**3.5 stars**

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is the first book by the author that I’ve read. I liked it but didn’t love it. It’s a domestic suspense novel full of secrets and lies in the marriages of 2 couples: Pippa and Gabe and Max and Amanda.

I did not figure out the twist ahead of time, which is always good. I did find the constant jumping between Pippa and Amanda in the present and the past a bit disorientating at times. It is a fast read. I’ll read other books by this author.

**Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc I received n exchange for my honest review.**

Another fantastic book by Hepworth. Brilliant, multilayered story of marriage, mental illness and love. Pippa and Gabe live in a gorgeous coastal house overlooking a cliff. The cliff behind their home is a popular place for suicide, but Gabe with his gentle reasoning and good looks, is often able to change this. One day when they spot a woman close to the cliff Gabe tries to reason with her and she still jumps. Then it comes to light that Gabe knew the woman and has business dealings with her husband and her jump may not have been on purpose. Beautifully written, heartfelt story that is impossible to put down.

Pippa and Gabe seem to have an average live but when tragedy strikes it is revealed that their life is not what it seems. Overall this was an entertaining book. My only problem was that I didn’t connect with any of the characters. None of them were really that likeable for me and their motives were sometimes confusing.

This book has it all - a marriage with secrets, mental health issues, general mysteries built within the story and mysterious twists that you will not see coming.

Pippa and Gabe Gerard have been married for years, and while they are happy and content right now, you soon realize that some of the happiness may be forced and there is something simmering below the surface. They live in a dream home on the coast. Unfortunately there is a cliff right outside their home which seems to attract people who want to end their lives. Gabe has actually talked several people literally off the ledge, and saved their lives.

Amanda and Max are the other couple in this story. Their story is a little more mysterious, and you will learn their complete story in bits and pieces throughout the book. This story is told from several points of view and goes from past to present so that you will more fully understand the background. This was a twisty tale of betrayal, secrets and lies.

I enjoyed the book, but I have to confess I was expecting something a little more sinister. If you like a slow build, psychological drama, you will enjoy this one.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I am a big fan of Sally Hepworth’s novels and I think this is my favorite yet! It’s an entertaining popcorn thriller, but I also love the way it delves into living with mental illness and what we will do for the people we love.

The alternating POVs kept the pacing going and I loved the addition of the recently-departed’s POV. And I loved that nobody is really exactly what they seem at the beginning.

Please be advised this book contains multiple discussions of suicide.

Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advanced egalley!

Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My first Sally Hepworth novel! Overall, I really enjoyed it. This sucked me in from the very first chapter. Quick, fast paced, thrilling. It is told from multiple timelines and POVs, one from beyond the grave, which I loved. The only POV I wish we had as well was Gabe…even if it was only a couple short chapters spread throughout. Despite that, I still loved hearing from Pippa and Amanda (my personal fave). Even though none of the chapters were dedicated to Max, I still feel like we got a very good sense of his POV through Amanda.

This is a great summer read, I highly recommend. 4 stars from me!

Thank you so much St. Martin Press for providing me an e-ARC in exchange of an honest review of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth.

This was my first book by this author, and I am not excited to read more from her.

This book starts out with Gabe and Pippa in their cute cottage near "the cliff" and their 2 little girls. Gabe is a great guy; he was recently spotlighted for talking many people down from the cliff. You see, the cliff is a well-known spot for people to commit suicide. One night while in the kitchen, Pippa spots a woman at the cliff. She immediately phones the police while Gabe runs out to try to help her.

As Pippa watches from the kitchen window, it only takes a moment for her to take her eyes off the scene; when she looks back, the woman is gone. Gabe is in a compromising position, and she's not sure if he pushed the woman off the cliff or if she jumped. How well do you really know your soulmate?

What I loved about this book was the alternating POVs between Amanda and Pippa, but the past and the present. Seeing life from beyond the grave was a great addition. I don't think I've ever read a book with a viewpoint from the deceased. Amanda's POV allows the reader to watch everything unfold, almost in real time. I also loved the short chapters; they really kept me wanting to read more. I binged this book in less than 24 hours and found myself wanting to come back for more. Every time I thought I had something figured out, I soon found out I was wrong. I really enjoyed the ending. As someone who reads a lot of thrillers, there isn't much that surprises me, but this ending was a shocker. It was a bit underwhelming, but it really fit the book.

The author did a great job showing how mental illness not only affects the individual, but those around them. I found those parts to be very informative and they added value to the book. It was almost like getting inside of Gabe's head without having his POV directly in the story.

It was really fun trying to piece this mystery together. There wasn't really anything that I can pinpoint that I didn't not enjoy in this book. Other than making me want to immediately buy all of Sally Hepworth's books!

While reading this book I literally went through so many emotions. There was shock, gasping, some laughs, and I really felt bad for all those involved...all the way down to little Asha. Gabe and Pippa had a wonderful support system and having the familial ties was also a great addition. This was just such a great, well-rounded book. It really touched on so many topics.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. I think it would be a great book for those who do not read thrillers often as well as those who absolutely love thrillers.

Overall, I gave this book 5 stars out of 5. I can't wait to read more from this author.

After falling in love with much of Sally's writing before turned to thrillers and really enjoying both The Mother-In-Law as well as The Good Sister, I have really not enjoyed The Younger Wife or this one. This book had so much good quality build up and suspense to see exactly how all of the characters were going to fit together only to be completely underwhelmed in the end. It is so incredibly frustrating to see, especially from an author that I know has the ability to make greater work. I'm sorry but that's just my honest opinion.

The Soulmate – Sally Hepworth

Star rating – 3.75

Thank you NetGalley, Sally Hepworth and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

So, this book was unpredictable to say the least, there were lots of twists, tragic love stories and unique perspective on the classic mystery/thriller. The book had multiple POV with one of them being the person who died seeing the world before and after her death. I thought this was a neat perspective that you don’t see very often. I really enjoyed the writing style in this book, but I didn’t find this book to be the most exciting. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat the whole way through, but it was interesting enough that I wanted to keep reading. Overall, I enjoyed the story a lot, if you are looking for an easy read this one is for you.
