Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Soulmate lands solidly within the title/genre of 'domestic suspense'. This book shares two POVs- one from Amanda and the other from Pippa as well as alternates between past and current timelines. Telling the story of what lead to a suspicious suicide and all the tangles that lies can create in a marriage.

This book captures the reader's attention very quickly. I picked it up while reading a few others- just to read a few pages and get a sense of the vibe- and before I knew it I was 50 pages in. The author gives little clues spaced out between chapters of current fallout and the balance is something that keeps you basically at the edge of your seat.

Twists in thrillers have to have such a precarious balance for me. While I love them, they have the ability to go wrong for me so quickly. There was one particular twist that just ended up making me a bit angry at several of the characters and really adds an element of tragedy to the couples. I don't usually end up crying in thrillers but one of my favorite parts of this book was how a couple truly can be soulmates and how that doesn't necessarily look like we think it should. (and that sometimes you aren't soulmates at all)

This was a quick and entertaining read. I really enjoyed the unraveling of all the secrets and the writing was well done.

Gabe and Pippa move to a house that is an infamous spot in town- seemingly where people go when life becomes too much for them and they want to take it all away. Normally, Gabe is able to talk them down from the ledge (literally), yet this time he fails to stop a woman from becoming the next victim of the cliffs. Pippa, watching from her house and distracted with wrangling the kids, is sure that the woman jumped. But then she isn't quite sure once she realizes that it wasn't just any woman who went off the cliff- it was someone known to her and to Gabe. Told in alternating voices of Pippa and of the deceased woman, nothing is as perfect as it appears to be.

Holy lies, batman..the secrets, the betrayal and the DECEIPT. The short chapters allowed the pacing to continue rapidly and I felt I finished this in the blink of an eye. I thought that there were some spots that could've been edited out that maybe didn't pertain to the storyline or plot, but didn't necessarily deter from it. Following both Pippa and the woman who went off the cliff was an interesting take since it still brought us to the past and present for BOTH of those. It's been a while since I read a narrative from the 'other side'. I will say that I don't know if I would classify this as a thriller, it had elements of one but it was almost more of a mystery to me. The ending had me gasping out loud and I really thought it was perfect for THIS story when brought all together. I can say I typically don't like the way books end in this manner, but Hepworth did it justice IMO.

Overall I would recommend, but would caution that it is more mystery than thriller and includes sensitive topics like mental health and suicide.

(I was granted both the audio and digital versions of this ARC- same reviews posted for both, & the audio version was lovely and the narrator was great!)

What I loved about this book was the complex story line that made it so interesting and unique. The characters were so well developed as well I felt I knew them intimately.
Amanda dies at the beginning by a fall off a cliff. Did she jump? Was it an accidental fall? Or did she commit suicide and jump off as Gabe claims as the one who was with her says.
Gabes wife Pippa loves and supports everything Max says and does.
Gabe works for Max who is Amanda's husband so as you can see, things are very enmeshed.
The story is told from each person s pov even Amanda's.

I want to thank St Martin's Press and Netgalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

When Gabe fails to keep a woman from committing suicide from The Drop behind their cliffside home, it might be the first time he has failed, but it isn't the first time he's met the woman. I loved the intricacy of how the story was laid out, how the characters were developed, and the interesting twists along the way. I think the only thing I really didn't like was the concept of a soulmate and how it was laid out in the book. That seemed to be the weakest part of the story, despite its pivotal role. Maybe if Max had a bigger voice it would have made a stronger connection for me? But this was definitely a page turner where even when I felt like I knew what was coming, there were still surprises waiting to be uncovered!

Drama, dysfunctional relationships, secrets and twists make for an interesting story - The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth! I love her books and this one kept me on my toes throughout. I didn't see those twists or that ending coming - which is always a treat.

Sally Hepworth's new thriller is a very twisty exploration of the good and the bad sides of marriage. She says in her Acknowledgments that the idea came to her during Melbourne's 262-day pandemic lockdown, when marriages were definitely being put to the test, lol.

Her new thriller begins with a pivotal incident that sends two couples into crisis. The two wives involved, Pippa and Amanda, tell the story of their marriages from their own first-person point of view, in alternating chapters, going back and forth across time. The main question is: How well can you know another person, even if you believe they are your soulmate?

I enjoyed this story even if the characters were not always very likable people. When it comes right down to it, life is about the choices we make. This was a quick read with some interesting twists that makes the reader say, Aha!

I received an arc of this thriller from the author and publisher via NetGalley. Many thanks for the opportunity. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

I'm a big fan of Sally Hepworth's novels. The Soulmate did not disappoint. I was hooked from the first page and there are so many twists and turns that I just did not want to put this book down! The characters are multi-dimensional and the reader keeps finding out more about them, that one is never sure which character is good and which is not......or if they are just flawed human beings doing the best that they can under the circumstances. I highly recommend The Soulmate! It's a fantastic thriller....edge of the seat, compelling novel! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Secrets and lies is what most of this book is about! It is also a book dealing with mental health and family drama. It is seemingly being advertised as a thriller, but it is not, and I mostly enjoyed it throughout. From the book description sounding intriguing and having read several of Hepworth’s previous novels, I was ready for this one.

We have Pippa and Gabe who recently moved to this cottage on the extreme edge of a cliff with their young daughters. They are in for more than they bargained for since people seem to like to commit suicide on this cliff! Gabe has a knack of talking potential jumpers out of what they are doing until one lady shows up and jumps. Later on Pippa finds out that Gabe knew the woman who jumped and many questions start to come to mind.

We have both Pippa and Amanda as our narrators. Amanda’s narrations take place before and after her jump. Through both narrators the reader/listener find out all kinds of connections that come to a head. Some are unexpected: but remember its all about secrets and lies!

Part of the climax really wasn’t, it was more of a letdown. Ultimate motives really did not work for me. But the ending was ultimately satisfying as everything came together despite everything that occurred.

I did have some issues with the narrators. Their voices seemed so similar for me that it was hard to distinguish between Pippa and Amanda at times. For this particular book, I would say read it. I think I would have enjoyed it more that way.

So far this is the weakest novel by Hepworth for me, but she is still enjoyable and I look forward to reading more by her!

Many thanks to the publisher Macmillian Audio for granting me an audio arc to listen to and review.

The Soulmate is a fast-paced domestic drama with plenty of twists and turns to keep you flipping the pages.
It starts out with a bang as a woman falls to her death at “The Drop,” a well-known spot for suicides. It appears to be an accident, but soon, questions are being asked and secrets are being revealed.
The major themes in this novel are mental illness, family secrets, and the reality that things are not often as they appear.
For me, it was an enjoyable read in the sense that I couldn’t put it down, but it left me feeling uneasy, and for that reason I wouldn’t necessarily rush to widely recommend it as a must read.

The Soulmate was an engaging story about marriage, family, secrets and betrayal. The short chapters propel the story forward quickly and the twists throughout leave you wondering what is going on.

Told from two POVs and in multiple timelines, I thought Amanda's 'after' perspective was a unique view I hadn't really read before. It felt like there were a lot of moving parts and this made it a fun ride, as things were always changing. Everyone was obviously hiding secrets, but how was it all connected? I think this would be an interesting choice for a book club discussion because of all the secrets and sometimes questionable decisions made by the characters.

This was my first Sally Hepworth book, I have had her on my list for awhile. The Soulmate is a suspense that makes us wonder if we really know our spouse as well as we think we do.
Pippa and Gabe own a house that is a dream come true-until they realize that the cliff it's on is a common place for people to come to commit suicide. Gabe seems to work his magic on making people who want to jump and walk away, until one night a woman does jump off the cliff. But, did she jump or did fall with help? This is what Pippa and other wonder.
I enjoyed the book, but it was as suspenseful as I hoped. In many ways, it made me sad as most of the book is about Pippa and Gabe's dysfunctional marriage and what she forgives because she thinks he is her soulmate. The story makes us wonder if a soulmate can ever be true.

Gave and Pippa live in their perfect cottage in a coastal town on the cliffs. It’s a place where people end their lives and Gabe chooses to come to their rescue. But when he knows one of them and doesn’t save her why? Secrets, betrayal, relationships.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced e-arc of this book.

This book caught my interest because of the author and the description. However, it was much darker than I had expected it to be. I would read this book with caution due to the content that runs deep throughout it. There is a theme of mental illness and suicide that is almost a character of its own in this book.

I will say that the mystery and the overall story kept me interested and turning pages. I like this author's writing and I will read more books from her. I just did not love this one for the content.
I also do not want to say too much about this book because it is a mystery/thriller and I don't want to give too much away.

It follows Gabe and Pippin and their family. They have two daughters. Pip's family is very close and offers her a lot of support. Gabe has some strange behavior that sets the family into chaos. The unraveling of the story begins from there. The backdrop of this story is the setting. They are along a beach and their house overlooks The Drop where it is known that people come to die. That is eerie enough. This book is written in a then/now perspective and by two different women. Like I had mentioned it is interesting and kept my interest but I really didn't care about any of the characters and I did not like the overall lack of trust of loyalty. All things which make a great thriller story.

Once again, Sally Hepworth did not disappoint. The Soulmate is a thriller with several twists. Gabe and Pippa live at a place called The Drop. The Drop is a steep cliff that is the jumping off point for people wanting to commit suicide. Gabe has stopped numerous people from actually jumping. However, the one person he couldn't save was someone he knew. Not only did he know this person, he has history with her. Because of his history, he doesn't quite tell the truth when the police ask for his version of what happened.

The story is told from two points of view. One view is from Pippa. The other view is from Amanda, who jumped over the cliff. This is a quick read and one you will have trouble putting down.

I received an ARC of The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review.

Exciting tale of a troubled marriage & secrets galore😟

Loved the short chapters, writing style, excellent plot and tense twists in this thriller set in Victoria State, Australia. A cliffside home does, indeed, turn dangerous for an estate attorney and her family. A woman falls to her death at the edge of their property and their lives begin unraveling. And it seems that all of the major characters, including the dead woman and her wealthy husband, have secrets just waiting to burst out to detrimental effect. Surprises revealed along the way right through the climax.

This was not the first psychological thriller I've read by Sally Hepworth and it definitely won't be the last. From the first chapter, I was seized by the plot and the uncertainty of who told the truth and would catch and retain my sympathy.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Masterfully plotted and paced, Hepworth weaves love, marriage, loyalty, trust and betrayal into a domestic thriller that is almost impossible to put down. Pippa and Gabe are soulmates, but their marriage has not been easy. They recently relocated their family to a beachfront cottage for a fresh start. The property is next to "The Drop", a favorite spot for suicidal people looking for a quick end, and Gabe has become somewhat famous for talking jumpers down. Until one night, when he doesn't. And when Pippa realizes the woman who jumped is someone they knew, someone with whom they share a complicated past, she starts to second guess what she saw when the woman jumped, whether Gabe actually tried to save her. Twisty and suspenseful, Hepworth does a great job of setting up the characters and events, and then turning them on their end.

The Soulmate – Sally Hepworth

Pippa and Gabe, along with their young daughters Freya & Asha, seem to be living an idyllic life in Portsea, Australia, with an oceanside cottage in an area called Millionaire’s Walk by the locals. Perched atop a seaside cliff, their views are magnificent. As the book opens, Pippa explains to her readers how she is happily married to the man she calls her soulmate, and she expounds on the various qualities of his personality, one of them being his ability to talk people off of a ledge – literally. Millionaire’s Walk is also home to ‘The Drop’, a high cliff occasionally used as a suicide site by those in pain. However, since Pippa and Gabe moved in, he has successfully thwarted all attempts made, by talking – and listening - to those who come to The Drop with plans of death. Tonight, is one of those nights, as the family spots a young woman walking along the cliffs. As Pippa calls the police, Gabe heads out to speak to the young woman, in hopes of changing her mind and getting her away from the cliffside. As Pippa looks out the window to check on Gabe’s progress, she’s horrified to see him standing at the edge of the cliff, arms outstretched…the young woman nowhere in sight.

As the police investigate, Pippa discovers that her husband has not been entirely honest with the officers – or with her. She soon comes to realize that Amanda was the wife of Gabe’s former employer – therefore the two knew each other. Did Amanda jump? Or did something else happen entirely?? Told from the perspectives of Pippa in ‘then’ & ‘now’ segments, and Amanda via ‘before’ and ‘after’ timelines, the reader takes a wide-eyed journey into the lives of these two seemingly separate couples, their lives, loves, desires & troubles, all culminating in an absolutely wild ride!! I read this in a single sitting – I just could not put it down!!

Sally Hepworth does it again! This author has quickly made my “must read” list for when a new title comes out. This one is another great thriller with a bit of a romantic story threaded in between.

Great book for exploring toxic and dysfunctional relationships, codependency, and the pain mental illness can cause.

There were many small little twists sown throughout the book which were unexpected and kept me interested. Nothing is at it seems in this book so be prepared to keep guessing!
