“Turns out I don't need someone holding my board and pushing me into the wave - I can do it myself.”

Thank you Sally Hepworth, St Martin’s Press, Macmillan Audiobook, and NetGalley for these ARCs in exchange for my honest review.

There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.

I was able to read and listen to this book and really enjoyed it! Macmillan Audio always does a fantastic job choosing narrators for their audiobooks. I really like that they do a full cast for the different POVs with their books. Sally Hepworth always writes about disabilities and mental health in a positive way, which is something I always appreciate about her books. The Soulmate was fast paced with dual POVs and a dual timeline. The twist at the end was unexpected. I definitely recommend this book!

Book review 🌊-
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a bingable domestic suspense novel.

Gabe and Pippa are looking for a fresh start and decide to purchase a house near a cliff called “The Drop”. They know ahead of time that many people have jumped to their death at this cliff but Gabe seems to be able to talk most of them away from the edge. That is until Amanda shows up and jumps. Pippa is devastated by what she sees but something about it isn’t sitting right with her. But one question leads for secrets unraveling and nothing is exactly as it seems.

I really liked this one! Right from the start, the story hooks you in and the action is immediate. I loved the dual POV but also dual timelines from Amanda and Pippa. The ending twist was mind blowing but overall a really enjoyable thriller!

Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advanced copy!

I love Sally’s writing style. The pages just keep turning. I enjoyed this one; reminded me of her early books like Mother in Law. I really like how she doesn’t make so many twist and turns that you get lost but also keeps it intriguing and you’re always guessing until the end. 4.5 stars

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth. Pub Date: April 4, 2023. Rating: 4 stars. I absolutely love reading Sally Hepworth novels and this one was no exception. Set along the coast at a popular suicide jump spot, this is the story of a family with secrets that are revealed through multiple perspectives. Through the lens of a female who dies, she speaks from the dead and helps propel the story surrounding her husband and his connection with the family who lives in the coast that she died at. Eerie, propulsive, short chapters and nail biting twists, this book was very difficult to put down. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it for psychological thriller readers! Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review. #netgalley #thesoulmate

The Soulmate
by Sally Hepworth
5 stars

Pippa and Gabe have been happily married for seven years and have two daughters. They have had their share of ups and downs throughout the years. Their house is near the cliff, a popular suicide point where people jump. Gabe helps random people by talking to them and helping them step away from the edge. One day a woman comes and stands to look over the edge, so Gabe heads out to talk to her. As they talk, Pippa watches while caring for the girls as best she can. After looking away, then back, the girl is gone, and Gabe is standing there, arms outstretched. Did she jump? Was she pushed? Who was that woman, and why did she do it?

In this, we have two POVs, Pippa now and then and Amanda (the dead woman) now in death and before. In each new chapter, we get a clearer perspective on what all happened in these women's lives and the secrets of their past. Very unexpected twists and turns the whole way.

Thank you Sally Hepworth, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC e-book. This is hands down in my top 2 reads this year. I literally loved this book. Everything about it was just so well thought. The mystery and questions surrounding everything going on kept me wanting to keep reading. But the characters were what really shined. There were sooo many topics in this book that were so great but it felt like these characters were someone we knew I could feel the emotion the whole story. I can’t say enough about how great this book was.

I loved this book! I've read a few of Sally Hepworth's books and this has by far been my favorite. I did not know where the story was going, who was the good guy or the bad guy, and what was going to happen. I also loved the dual time-lines - both in the past and present of both the main ladies in the story. I could not stop reading the book from the moment I started!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is an amazing psychological thriller that keeps you edge of your seat.
Pippa and Gabe live on a deadly cliff. Gabe prides himself on helping people walk away from the cliff. But will this last forever?
Amanda and Max live a good life together, but are they truly in love with each other? One moment on the cliff connects these families.
This story grips you on the first page and takes you on a wild ride. Love that it kept me guessing, would highly recommend!

I really like Sally Hepworth's writing so her new releases are a must read for me. This was definitely not disappointing and contained the same intrigue and twists that her other thrillers have. I was so wrapped up in trying to figure out exactly what happened that I didn't see the events playing out the way they did in the slightest. I was delighted by the final plot twist as well and thought it was a really heartwarming twist to an otherwise not so heartwarming situation. I thought the characters were interesting but I would have liked even a bit more development of them because they seemed to have a lot going on. I thought the main couple was well developed but that Max and his wife had an air of mystery about them that I would have liked to dive deeper into. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

why my nose was in this book:
i read this book in one sitting on a plane, my anxiety building of a couple, their house on a cliff, a popular spot for suicides, the strumming of my beating heart doubling in overtime, as i raced through the story
I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the story and its characters, the nuances and complications of married life, the secrets that we keep
When a woman jumps off the cliff (at the very start of the story no less!), I donned my detective cap, ready to point the finger at the husband, but soon realized that this story is not so black and white

I have read Sally Hepworth’s last few novels, and have enjoyed them as light, easy reads. If you enjoyed any of her previous novels, I think you will find The Soulmate is par for the course. While her last couple of books have mysteriously been marketed as thrillers, this one more fit the bill for that genre, but as thriller-lite.

While I easily breezed through this book, I did find the quality of the writing to be lacking. It has an interesting premise, but I found the execution to be rather novice (which surprised me since the author isn’t new to writing). I did find the twist rather clever and it did end up boosting my rating by half a star 💫.

This is the first book I have read by Hepworth but I definitely will be picking up other books by her!

This was such a quick read — short chapters, dual POV — gimme, gimme, gimme!! 😍 I really enjoyed the story line and flew through this one wanting to know what was going to happen next. It was full of so many twists, I really couldn’t guess what was going to happen next! And the ending…. Definitely didn’t see that coming!

Overall, this was a great read about marriage and murder and what you will risk for love and family. I LOVED IT!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins for my ARC!!

This was my first Sally Hepworth book, and it will NOT be my last! A definite ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star for me!

The Soulmate is a thriller which focuses on marriage, betrayal, family, and secrets. I loved finding out how Pippa and Gabe's relationship evolved and finding out why they came to live at the house on the edge of a cliff. The further you got into the story, the more secrets were being uncovered and the more you understood the characters relationship to one another (both in the past and the present)..

If you are looking for a good thriller, you should check this book out! Not once did I find myself bored while reading the book.

Thank you to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for the ARC copy of The Soulmate! and the ability to read it and provide an honest review.

➡ In the year since his family's move to a small coastal town, Gabe has saved seven people who have come to The Drop, a cliff on their otherwise idyllic property, to jump. One day a woman appears on their property and like the others, he attempts to prevent her from jumping- but this time he is unsuccessful. Traumatized by the events, Gabe, his wife Pippa and their two young daughters attempt to go back to life as usual but it is revealed that the woman has a tie-in to the past they moved to escape, Pippa will begin to question everything.

🙏 Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Soulmate in exchange for my honest review.

🎯 What I loved: Told in alternating POVs and timelines between Pippa (Gabe's wife) and the victim (Amanda), this book is a complete rush. As each piece of the puzzle falls into place, I wanted to read faster and faster because the characters were so interesting and the story so compelling. I love Hepworth's writing and her style of domestic thriller that feels adrenaline packed and twisty with the best characters. Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Alice Feeney, The Soulmate is a delightfully twisty tale of love, loyalty and lies.

🙅‍♀️ What I didn't: I really liked this book! And though the ending was a little sad, the story did come full circle which I appreciated.

TW: mental disorders- discussion of erratic behaviors associated with specific disorders

Read if you love:
* domestic thrillers
* dual POV/timelines

I was completely sucked into this one right from the beginning and could hardly put it down. The alternating viewpoints were beautifully done and the suspenseful twists and turns kept me guessing. I also loved the ending and found it to be done just right - not too unbelievable or perfect. Loved this one!

The Soulmate is a twisted domestic thriller. It is told from two points of views, Pippa and Amanda.

Pippa and Gabe live, with their two little girls, in a house right near a cliff that has a reputation for people trying to jump off to commit suicide, but apparently didn't know that until after they bought the house. Pippa’s husband Gabe seems to be adept at talking to them out of jumping. But one night a woman arrives, and Gabe goes to talk to her as Pippa calls the police. Pippa watches nervously waiting for the situation to resolve itself positively until the women falls to her death. Gabe appears to be shaken by his lack of being unable to have stopped her. He doesn't want to talk about it.

Gabe was diagnosed with ADHD but seemed to be doing well until he seems more erratic than normal. Amanda's husband wants the truth about what happened as his behavior escalates to where Pippa and Gabe feel threatened.

There are many of twists and turns along the way as their lives unravel. I was surprised at how what was presented as a happy family soon turned to problematic with mental health issues. It was a wonderful way to catch the reader by surprise. I did not see any of the twists coming. I just followed where the writer took me totally engrossed by the ride.

Two couples. A suspicious suicide, deception, secrets, and lies are exposed as the reader discovers what led to a character’s death.

Gabe and Pippa, were hoping for a fresh start to their marriage. So, They buy a cliffside home in an idyllic seaside location. The problem? The location is known as “The Drop” a place where people commit suicide by jumping to their deaths.

Gabe is a stay at home father, taking care of their children after a tragic incident he’s getting through. Pippa is a estate lawyer, practical fixer, and the breadwinner of the family.

One day Gabe sees a person close to the cliff and he approaches to talk with him. After nearly seven hours later, the man walks away. Gabe saves his life, and he convinces six other people not to jump. He becomes a local hero, giving an interview to the newspaper.

But one day a woman in early fifties approaches to their house. Pippa watches Gabe and the mysterious woman through the window: seeing her husband arms outstretched, palms facing out, standing close to the woman. Then all of a sudden, the woman falls down. Did she really jump or was she pushed down? But her kind hearted husband cannot be involved in something so sinister, can he?

Could Pippa see things from different perspective? Even though the woman’s death is ruled as suicide, there’s something rattling Pippa that she cannot shake.
When she learns the identity of the woman, her heart sinks. She knew the woman and this information could ruin everything about their lives.

The story is told through the alternating points of view of Pippa and Amanda, both from before and after the death. This worked quite well, as it allows a slow reveal of the facts to the reader. Their perspectives give us enough information about secrets and lies they kept about their marriages a now have devastating consequences. This is nothing new in domestic thrillers, but the author has a fresh spin on the genre.

I also felt the author dealt with a particular condition (no spoilers!) extremely well.
The Soulmate is available on April 4, 2023
