Do you believe in soulmates? When two people meet, fall in love and marry, is it supposed to last until death do us part, or infinity and beyond? How do you know you have a soulmate? Is it a feeling? Is it the way they treat you? Does everyone get a soulmate?

Gabe and Pippa are married. They have certainly been through their share of tough times, but in the end, they are in love, together, raising a family. Nothing is able to break the bond they’ve had since they met. Gabe is a stay-at-home Dad. He used to work outside the of the home, but they had a recent role reversal. He dotes on their two young children. He is patient with them and clearly adores them. Pippa is a Wills and Trusts attorney. She is now the breadwinner. She loves her family and their life.

About a year ago they bought a small house on a cliff. They had been told numerous times the area was a known for suicide jumpers. But they have taken precautions to protect their children by building a fence. But some still come beyond the fence. Gabe is known as a whisperer of sorts to those who come to kill themselves. He has a way of talking them out of jumping. There was even an article written about him in their local paper about his talent.

Then one day as the family is inside their house, they see a woman on the cliff. Gabe springs into action to go help her. But something goes very wrong. Pippa sees the horrific scene from inside the house. She jumps just as Gabe is reaching out for her. Right? That’s what she saw. But when the police arrive to take his statement, Gabe seems to give a bit of a story Pippa knows is not right. Why would he lie? Of course, Gabe was reaching out to grab the woman!

Amanda is the woman who went over the cliff. In separate chapters we learn about her life with her husband Max who is a multimillionaire. Their relationship has had its ups and downs. Max never wanted children because two of his family members had mental illness and killed themselves.
But Amanda loves Max so much that she just knows they will be happy together alone for the rest of their lives.

But there is much more to the story, but I would be a bad book blogger if I took the plot any further. What I will say is The Soulmate is a twisty, white-knuckle thriller with an explosive plot and tremendously shocking ending. The revelations continue until the last page. Is there such a thing as a soulmate? Well, Hepworth gives us one scenario in which it hopefully exists!

Thank you #NetGalley #St.Martin’sPress #TheSoulmate #SallyHepworth for the advanced copy.

I genuinely enjoy anything Sally Hepworth rights and this wasn’t any different. I absolutely loved the setting, “a sleepy coastal town”? Sign me up! It felt like the perfect, cozy town filled with mystery to set the story. The plot line had me glued to the book—I definitely stayed up way too late to finish the book. I also appreciated the “then” vs “now” writing style.

I think this is the best Sally Hepworth novel… ever! I’ve read her backlist and I don’t think I was consumed with the book as much as this! As expected with this author, there were twists that I never saw coming!

Best thriller I have read in a long time! Usually when I read a thriller I am bored until the shocking end, or I solve the "who did it?" aspect in the first half of the book. The Soulmate kept me on my toes, and I was not ready for that ending!

The Soulmate was my first Sally Hepworth novel and will definitely not be my last!

Gabe and Pippa moved to the cottage on a high cliff a few years back to get away from the city. Every single night, people try to take their lives and jump off the cliff. Every single night, Gabe helps those not jump off the cliff. Until one night, he doesn’t. The police rule this a suicide but Pippa knows better than that and her suspicions are confirmed once she discovers Gabe’s history with the victim. The question is… does she really know her soulmate?

The Soulmate’s short chapters and multiple points of view/ time frames kept me flipping the pages wanting to know if my suspicions on the ending came true. While most of them were correct, I still found the ending interesting and thought the author wrapped it up nicely (although a bit rushed). While I heard multiple mentions of ADHD and multiple illness, I wish more care was had when these topics were brought up. Overall, I will try another Hepworth in the future and know that thriller lovers may enjoy this read.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press for my earc in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this one, liked it a lot but didn't love it. It was a really easy and fast read and kept my attention all the way through. Sally Hepworth's writing is always good and I liked the story, I guess I just wished there was a little bit more to it! It was a very contained story that revolved around just a few characters, and I really liked it but don't think it will stick with me for long. I still recommend reading it and overall would rate it at 3.5 or 4 stars.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth drew me in quick and kept me turning the pages. This story delves into the unpredictability of mental health and how it affects an entire family. I was interested to learn how the main couple met, evolved into a family of four and how they ended up living in a house on the edge of a cliff. Gabe appears lovable but is a dynamic and volatile character. Pippa had great character development in relation to him. I really enjoy how Sally Hepworth weaves a story full of small complexities. It reminded me how much I loved The Mother in Law by Sally Hepworth too.

Lots of trigger warnings here so be sure to look them up or ask about them (talk of suicide being the top trigger).

The Soulmate releases April 4th. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my e-arc!

I have enjoyed Sally Hepworth's suspenseful books in the past, but I regret this one didn't work for me. I would classify it as a domestic drama/psychological character study. The short chapters kept the story fast-paced, but I wasn't engaged. The characters were unlikeable. Trust, fidelity, and loyalty were essential words in the marriages of the two couples, but secrets, lies, and denial issues intruded.

Pippa and Gabe Gerard have moved with their two young daughters after some problems in their marriage. They are looking for a fresh start in their new cliffside home overlooking the ocean and jagged rocks with a breathtaking view. The cliff's edge is called 'The Drop' because there is a history of people going there to jump to their deaths. Gabe is a local hero because he has saved seven people's lives by talking to them and persuading them not to jump.

We are repeatedly told how handsome Gabe is and how his good looks attract the attention of other ladies. He enters various jobs enthusiastically and frenetically but has trouble focusing, loses interest, and either quits or is fired. Pippa has deluded loyalty to Gabe and ignores any troubling signs. She believes he can be fixed by herself or through psychological counselling. She now works as a lawyer while Gabe stays home with the children. She is convinced that Gabe is her soulmate. She is grateful that such a gorgeous and charismatic man chose to marry her.

One day Pippa sees a lone woman near the edge of the cliff. As in the past seven rescues, Gabe rushes out to save her while Pippa calls the police. Momentarily distracted from the scene, she now sees that the woman has vanished over the ledge, and Gabe is standing with his arms outstretched. Had he been trying to grab and save her, or did he push her off the cliff? Gabe tells her he doesn't know who the woman was. Suspicion arises when Pippa learns that the woman was Amanda Cameron, wife of Max, Gabe's most recent boss. Why did He lie about her identity? Why did Gabe not reveal to Pippa that Max recently fired him?

The story is told from two perspectives and timelines, Then/Before and Now/After. The narrators are Pippa and the dead Amanda from somewhere in limbo. Amanda believed Max was her soulmate. We learn about a secret Pippa was withholding that fills her with guilt. Gabe has been misdiagnosed, not getting the correct medication. It was easy to identify his actual mental condition. From the viewpoints of the two wives, we learn that the police are now involved and are suspicious of events that lead to Amanda's apparent suicide. The narration reveals weaknesses in fidelity, trust, ignored mental health problems, denial, and shady business dealings.
There are lies and secrets within the two dysfunctional marriages. Pippa's two daughters are becoming affected.

The twists and turns made sense to this point, including Pippa's deluded loyalty to Gabe and ignoring danger signs. Not to mention again, he was so handsome and charming! Now some further unnecessary and contrived twists involving DNA and family relationships are added, bringing the story to an unconvincing and underwhelming ending. I regret I could not care about what happened to anyone in the story.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC for The Soulmate in return for an honest review. I will read her following books because I enjoyed her previous ones, but this one was not for me. Publication date is April 4th. As the vast majority of the readers rated this book highly, prospective readers should not be deterred by my misgivings.

Pippa and Gabe are soulmates. There have been highs and lows in their marriage but they have stuck through it. When they move to a cottage on the cliffs they feel as though they are starting a new life - that is until they learn that their new home is the site of many suicides from people jumping from the cliffs. One by one Gabe starts to save the people that come until one day a woman shows up and Pippa thinks that instead of saving her Gabe may have pushed her.

So as much as this is listed as a thriller I found it to be more of a family drama. It’s atmospheric and mysterious in some ways but I definitely feel this one could have been categorized differently. I did have a few concerns about how mental health was handled in this as well. Overall I did enjoy this one and it was a quick read BUT would be worth knowing what kind of book you are getting in to.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth opens with Pippa and Gabe living in their dream home on a beach. The only drawback are the people who come to jump off the cliffs behind their house to commit suicide. Every time someone comes to jump, Gabe rushes out and talks them out of it. However, one night, Gabe is unsuccessful, and the woman jumps. When Pippa finds out that Gabe knew her, their life starts to unravel. With an expected publication date of April 4, 2023 in the United States, this is a novel you don't want to miss.

I'd like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth. Having read The Mother-in-Law by the same author, I knew that this newest book would be worth the time to read, and I was thrilled when my request to read this book for free in exchange for my honest review was approved. I was not disappointed in the least.

Words cannot describe how engrossing The Soulmate is . . . it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and I had no idea where the author was going with everything. Told from two different characters point of view as well as past and present, Hepworth did a phenomenal job with the storylines. It enhanced the story and flowed exceptionally well. I wish all authors could do this as mellifluously as Sally Hepworth does. I found myself completely losing track of time and wanted to stay up all night long to finish. I would've too if I hadn't had to work the next day.

I loved almost all of the characters, and even one of the ones I disliked ended up redeeming himself in the end. And that ending . . . I never saw it coming. It blew me away and was so bittersweet. I could just gush over this book . . . that's how much I loved it. Five out of five stars is what I give The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth, and I look forward to reading more from her.

This is one of those books that grips you from the beginning and you end up staying up in the wee hours of the night trying to read Just. One. More. Page.

It’s weird. This isn’t necessarily thrilling or suspenseful, but it definitely kept me on my toes wanting to know more about these people and the situation they’ve gotten themselves into.

It honestly makes you think about relationships and how we look one way to some but are completely different to others.

It touches on marriage, familial relationships, mental health, suicide, murder, fidelity, and how all of these things can either break you or make you stronger.

I really enjoyed reading this (and really every Hepworth book I’ve read). Her style of writing keeps me turning pages!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this as an ebook and as an audiobook. I really enjoyed the narration of this one. I loved the story too. One of the better ARCs I’ve read/listened to in awhile. Loved the twists and the ending. I didn’t find myself connecting to Gabe, Pippa, or the other characters but the great plot made up for it.

The Soulmate tells a story of Gabe and Pippa. Gabe and Pippa reside in a charming cottage situated atop a cliff that offers a breathtaking view. However, the cliff is notorious for being a location where people come to commit suicide, known as "The Drop." Despite the risks, Gabe has previously managed to persuade suicidal individuals not to take their own lives. Unfortunately, one day Gabe himself doesn't return after going out to help someone. The woman in question had disclosed that she was devastated by her spouse's infidelity, and her demise was recorded as a suicide. However, the authorities continue to interrogate Gabe and the woman's husband. When Pippa learns that Gabe knew the victim and did not disclose it, Pippa becomes curious about the truth behind the woman's presence on the cliff, the reason for her husband's deception, and why Gabe concealed his relationship with the victim.

A great read, that will keep you guessing until the very end!

Have you read any books by this author before? If not, just start right here. This book is SIMPLY GREAT! This book set its hook from the beginning chapter with new hooks and twists all the way through to the end. Easy to read, easy to believe and highly recommended. Five stars from me. I am grateful to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the digital ARC. This review is my own.

This is my favorite Sally Hepworth to date.

"That's another funny thing about marriage. Sometimes, when you look back on it, the worst moments are in fact the best."

Gabe, Pippa and their two children live in a cute bungalow by the sea. In fact their backyard faces a place called The Drop, which is a place where many people come to jump to their death. In the short time they have lived there, Gabe has actually become quite adept at talking people out of jumping, and has become a local hero. So it isn't unusual for Gabe to approach the woman he sees standing at The Drop. But then she jumps. Or does she?

I'm not always a fan of the slow reveal of information but it worked SO well in this novel. Usually I feel like it's the author trying to be tricky but in this case I just loved as the layers were peeled back to reveal more information.

So clever and such a great reading experience--this will be a book I will be recommending often in the future.

The Soulmate
By Sally Hepworth

Following a rough spell, Pippa and Gabe are looking for a fresh start. They find their cliffside dream home with an ocean view in Melbourne where they move with their two young daughters. Entranced, they disregard the notoriety that The Drop is a spot favored by those wishing to end their days. In short course, Gabe earns a reputation for talking people off the edge. One day, Pippa looks out their kitchen window and sees a woman standing at The Drop. Gabe makes his way to the woman while Pippa distracts the girls. Minutes later she looks up to see that Gabe is much closer to the woman and the edge than “the rules” permit. The next time she looks up, the space where the woman stood is vacant and Gabe’s hand are stretched out before him. Pippa isn’t sure what she’s seen or whether she can trust what she’s seen. Things get complicate when it’s discovered that Gabe was acquainted with the woman.

I requested The Soulmate based on the reputation of the author and the synopsis. I think I’m an outlier when I say that I was disappointed. Right from the start I couldn’t buy in on the fact that caring parents would endanger their daughters by purchasing a house where the wind alone might blow them over the side of the steep cliff. But don’t worry, they’ll put up a fence and tell them never to go near the edge. I’ll not mention spoilers here, but I also found it hard to suspend my belief at other critical points of the plot. I’m sorry to say The Soulmate was not for me.

My thanks to @NetGalley and @StMartinPress for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved everything about this domestic thriller and could not put it down. Told in dual POV and also dual timelines, I could not read this book fast enough. Pippa and Amanda are both women madly in love with their husbands. Both feel they have married their soulmate. The real question is, did they? What appears to be two happy marriages is actually secrets, betrayal and danger.

As with every Sally Hepworth book I’ve read, the surprises kept me on my toes. The short chapters make this a very quick read.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

In a sleepy town along the Australian coast, there is a family with lots of secrets. Across the street from their home is a tall cliff, people who want to end their lives, come here to jump. The husband has been successful at keeping 6 people from jumping to their deaths. However, 7 will be the unlucky number that causes secrets to be revealed.

THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC! Some of the chapter cliffhanger endings made me scream because the author would change character perspective and then I would have to wait. But that is ok. I never saw it coming.

I had high hopes for The Soulmate. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me.

Pippa and Gabe moved to their dream house on the coast. The only drawback is that the cliff on their property is where people go to end their lives. Gabe has become something of an expert at talking them down, away from the edge. Until one makes it past him, and it turns out he knew the victim. The cracks begin to show in this seemingly perfect family.

This domestic suspense follows two POVs and two timelines. The short chapters make it a quick read. Although I thought the story went on for longer than it needed to.

This book discusses mental health, shady business deals, and loyalty.

Pippa’s character didn’t make much sense to me. She’s a lawyer, but she chose to ignore so many red flags. If you were to tell her to forget about something suspicious, she would.

While I didn’t love this book, it did successfully pull me out of a reading slump. It’s a compelling read if you just go with it.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for providing an arc via Netgaley in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to @NetGalley and @stmartinspress for the ARC!

Gabe and Pippa have recently moved to a house near a cliff, a cliff that is a well-known spot where people frequently come to end their lives. Gabe has a known reputation of being able to talk people out of jumping, until one day a woman jumps, or does she?

The story is told from two perspectives and two timelines, which can be tricky, but was done nicely. At no point was I lost or questioned who the narrator was. Hepworth did a fantastic job of creating complex characters and allowing the reader to really get to know them. Their complexities explained a lot of their story, yet kept you intrigued because you know there is more to them. I felt she kept me, as a reader, questioning Gabe's character the most. On the surface, he seems like a stand-up guy, but the author keeps you wondering if he really is.

The story moved along at a nice pace and tied everything together at the end, which I can appreciate as a reader, I really dislike when I don't get a clear picture of the outcome.
