Sally Hepworth is the queen of toxic family dramas. I love every book I have read of hers. This story is one that will definitely stick with me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Sally Hepworth is an auto buy author for me! I love the way she writes and her books are full of drama and twists. The Soulmate is more of a domestic drama and not really a thriller, but I enjoyed it immensely! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a quick read!
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was so much more than I expected and I was not wanting to put it down as I just couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I loved the different points of view in past and present tense. It was intriguing until the very end.
initial thoughts: while this wasn’t my favorite Sally Hepworth book, I still enjoyed it and didn’t want to put it down.
I love the way Sally brings you into her character’s lives, personalities and thoughts. I always feel like I’m right there and that I know these characters.
The Soulmate
By Sally Hepworth
Gabe and Pippa decided to leave the city behind and move to a little town off the coast in a dream home on a cliff. Little did they know this cliff was a popular suicide spot. Gabe became the suicide whisperer and talked air of people down from taking their lives. Until one day when Gabe can’t save a life. It is then that the secrets start to unfold.
I enjoyed this story but then I haven’t come across a story that I have not enjoyed from Sally Hepworth.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for the ARC of this story.
I feel this is more of a curious “what is going to happen” thriller than one that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth did keep me turning the pages quickly, though. I had so many questions that Hepworth answered in her own sweet, masterful time. I loved the way this author did the dual narration. I couldn’t wait to hear from both Pippa and Amanda about what was happening with them and with their husbands.
Trigger warning for suicide. It plays a major factor in this story as Pippa and Gabe’s home is located on a cliff side , right by a spot known for the number of people who jump there. There is also a representation, done well, I think, of mental illness.
I hesitate to say much about the plot in fear of giving something away that I should not, just know that it was a storyline that kept me guessing and surprised me at the end, just not in the usual way that thrillers do. I really enjoyed this book.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Sally Hepworth’s The Soulmate.
This was a solid 4 stars for me. I always love reading Sally Hepworth as her characters are believable and flawed, like life itself. The storyline was fresh and kept me guessing.
If you enjoy marital strife, mystery and thought provoking scenarios, The Soulmate should be added to your TBR.
Man oh man! Strap in and clear your schedule! This book is an absolute page turner, I was unable to put it down! The twists and turns are jaw dropping! I had to force myself to go to bed and when I woke up I was right back at it! Just when you think you have it figured out a wrench is thrown it! Get this book!! If you like thrillers with twists that make you stop and re read the chapter before then this is the book for you!
A married couple, Gabe and Pippa, live near a cliff where people go to end their lives. Gabe has talked several people out of jumping. Unfortunately, one night a woman jumped and Gabe was not able to save her. At least, that’s what Pippa thinks until she learns that Gabe knew the victim. With Gabe acting strangely, Pippa questions how well she knows her husband.
The Soulmate is told using multiple points of view and timelines. The viewpoints are from Pippa and Amanda, the victim. The timelines are now and then for Pippa, before and after for Amanda. The characters are intriguing, though unlikable.
An atmospheric domestic thriller. The Soulmate has secrets, lies, and plenty of family drama. Fans of Hepworth’s other books are sure to enjoy this one too.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love a good mystery, and the mistrust between the main characters added to this so much!
Starting off with an apparent suicide off a cliff, this story had so many twists and turns that the ending was a genuine surprise (at least for me). Pippa and Gabe are trying to save thier marriage from infidelity and mental illness, but when they become involved in the police investigation regarding the suicide, everything starts to unravel. I usually enjoy Sally Hepworth's books and this did not disappoint. Recommended.
She’s a great author to read if you’ve finished all of Liane Moriartys books. They even take place in Australia. This one was really good. I did not place the twist at the end.
This one was middle of the road for me. Not super memorable, although at the time I enjoyed the twist and turns. I always appreciate Sally Hepworth's writing and the POVs - the true twists and turns and fast-paced writing is always enjoyable!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
I loved this page turner, I am a bit delayed in my review but I really enjoyed this one. I even gasped towards the end in shock at one scene. I liked the two perspectives of the two women and felt the ending tied it up well yet left it a little open ended still. I have my theory on if Gabe did it or not. Great book can’t wait to read more by Sally Hepworth
This book was a solid twisty thriller, just like every other Sally Hepworth novel. She always knows how to turn pages!
Really enjoyed this one. Thought it was a good storyline that kept me intrigued throughout. Would recommend reading this book with the audio I thought that added to the story! I found this one to be interesting throughout and would highly recommend for thriller enthuasiasts.

A twisty read. A great read for fans of the author. With a beautiful house in a prime location, all seems perfect. However, the house is beside a known suicide spot. This story was a fascinating domestic thriller and ideal for fans of the genre.
Another winning domestic thriller from
Author Sally Hepworth!
This plot jumps right into the moment a person is on the edge of a cliff, ready to end their life. This cliff has become a hot spot for suicide attempts and despite the stunning home that Pippa owns with her husband Gabe, the cliff has so far been much more than just a nuisance. Gabe spends night over night helping strangers thanks to his keen ability to talk them down from jumping. Until one day someone jumps while Gabe is there… but why do police suspect it might not be an accident?
Sally Hepworth is a genius with suspense. Her writing is always perfectly paced, creating sympathy for characters despite their sketchy behaviors. I find myself always questioning my opinion as the story moves along.
I also appreciated how atmospheric this book was. I could almost hear the waves crashing into the cliff and smell the salty air. The descriptions of the setting really pulls you in as a reader.
With plenty of twists, reveals, and some shocking betrayals, I would definitely consider this to be a page-turner! Perfect for the pool or beach.
I never have rated a Hepworth book poorly which just goes to show how talented she is. If you’ve loved her books before or if you’ve never read them, I think you would definitely enjoy this one!
Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my gifted e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
I love a Sally Hepworth book! They are always interesting and twisty, with unique plots and this was no different. The history of the cliff and house was interesting, and I enjoyed learning about all the different characters. I didn’t quite connect as deeply with the main character as I wanted to? I can’t put my finger on as to why. Perhaps I am tired of books using mental illness as an excuse for unacceptable behavior. And there was a lot in this book. I know it can be genetic, but it seems nearly everyone had a mental illness, it was a bit draining in that sense. And while I didn’t see certain twists coming, the ending was a little anticlimactic. But I was satisfied how it ended for Pippa. Overall this one kept me engaged the entire time, I just didn’t love it as much as her others.
Bottom Line: Read it.
