The hype is real! This read is absolutely wonderful- like a comforting cup of coffee. This was a cute, cozy tale of a woman trying to restart her life. I enjoyed the characters and the setting, and the modern aspects of the world that were hand-waived as Gnomish magical creations.
The themes of friendship and love is portrayed so well. Also, it has my favorite trope of all time- Found Family (always feels like a warm hug).
I loved all the characters (side or not) – Tandri, Cal and Thimble and of course the main character Viv. We see her journey as she tries to settle into her dream life along with trying to accept her past and she does that with help from old friends and new. It was very heartwarming.
Also, I should warn you to sit with a warm cup of coffee and some snacks while reading this book because its going to make you crave a whole lot of it in literally each and every page.
Absolutely cozy (and quick) read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Viv is tough but slowly learns how to let her walls down, a lesson I need for myself sometimes. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
A book that went from a simple tweet on twitter into a viral book that everyone and there mother has read at this point, is finally getting an official release from Tor. It was self published but it got the W, got the traditional treatment and will be in bookstores on November 8th, This is a very cozy and warm fantasy all about an Orc who is stepping away from the life of adventuring and opens up a coffee shop in a small fantasy town. It’s adorable, very low stakes, simple but very enjoyable. An easy read that will probably make you smile, even if you like brutal bloody fantasy like I do, this is a nice break from that but still keeping that classic fantasy feel.
This was a cute and cozy read. The writing was very descriptive and created a great atmosphere. The characters were likable and I wish I could have one of those cinnamon rolls.
This book is precious and I love it. It's a very pleasant, enjoyably easy read. Child appropriate as long as you're child is ok with a few swear words. I'd be more than happy to read a whole series of these, or possibly a collection of short stories about the characters. It is not a deep book, and it doesn't want to be. But I liked the majority of the characters, the plot made a reasonable amount of sense (there's a little deux ex machina, but it's fantasy, so I'm ok with it) and I wanted to know what happened through to the end. Lovely little book for a cozy read.
D&D coffeeshop AU / slow burn sapphic romance / found family / cozy read / everyone gets what they deserve
Orcs are so hot right now, I decided that had to give this book a try! I was not disappointed. I love Viv and her journey from mercenary killing machine to a complete lifestyle change. Opening a coffee shop! Total 180, right? How can it work? Trust me, it does.
The writing in this book is excellent. Additionally, this book is cozy, sweet, funny and totally the remedy to any book slump. If you are craving something unique, fun and the perfect cool weather book to curl up with, pick this up! I loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge for the e-ARC.
This book was a great cozy, low-stakes fantasy that I absolutely breezed through. It subverts the typical adventure story and instead follows a slice-of-life narrative about an orc putting her sword down and opening a coffee shop. The setting, characters, and found family aspects of this story all felt like a warm hug. I appreciated that the author was able to make such a simple premise a story I couldn’t put down because of the character dynamics and interesting plot. I will definitely be recommending this to anyone looking for a fantasy book that’s easy to read and will put a smile on their face.
A very sweet, cozy slice-of-life fantasy - exactly what I was in the mood for! I wish some plot points had been explored a bit more thoroughly but I did love this cast of characters and I absolutely adore the fantasy coffee shop concept. I hope to see more books with this vibe!
This was so cute!!
If you are looking for a cute cozy fantasy read that’s quick and light, this is perfect! I really enjoyed this book.
This book *is* a warm comforting beverage. Viv is on a quest to start a new life, sans dangerous quests. And she puts together a beautiful found family to do it. Everything about this story is cozy and comforting. I want more of their stories, maybe a competitive café opens up across town. I don't care. I would read a novel about a year of everyday sales with this cast of characters. This book is what you should reach for on a fall day, while cuddled up next to a fire place. The story is gentle but deftly plotted. You will want to be friends with all of these people.
First off I don't think that I have smiled more in a book than this one. The writing was good, the plot was fun but most of all the book felt cozy. I was fully sold the minute I started the book, living out a life starting a coffee shop and all the challenges that come with that. Overall I think that the book shows that small scale plots can have just as much of an impact as world ending plots.
My thanks to NetGalley for making an eARC of this book available to me.
This was such a pleasure to read, and a nice change from many of the fantasy books and series that I read in that it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Our protagonist, an orcish woman, is a retired mercenary who has moved to a new town and plans on opening a coffee shop. It is so very enjoyable to see her pulling others into her orbit, hiring just the right people to help her implement her idea, and seeing the shop expand its menu over the course of the book. You'll find no epic battles in this book, just the trials and tribulations associated with opening a new chapter in this woman's life. With lots and lots of little chuckles along the way.
After years spent adventuring with her crew, Viv (who is an orc barbarian) decides to hang up her sword (quite literally) and open a coffee shop. This book follows Viv as she goes through the process of buying and building up her shop in the fantastical city of Thune - the highs and the lows. If you like Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy, and/or slice-of-life storylines, then you'll love this sweet cozy story. I am not a D&D player, but my other half is, and I enjoyed the opportunity to immerse myself in this world of orcs, fae, succubi, and rattkins that he enjoys so much.
This book made me want to curl up on the couch with a hot mug (quite literally) and just enjoy getting to know the characters. It's almost as if the main character literally stops mid stereotypical journey of an orc warrior one day and decides she is going to open up a coffee shop. It seems out of the ordinary but this book was fun and honestly engaging for something I might have passed up based on the jacket description. Do not be like me, pick it up and fall in love.
Thank you, NetGalley for the eARC. This book was a delight, both unique and enjoyable in a field where I hope others will follow. I am interested in seeing more!
I love this book, and the short story was a great addition. Cozy, perfect to read during fall or winter. Just a wonderful sapphic story that made me crave baked goods.
I never thought I would read a fantasy cozy book but here I am and I didn't hate it.
I loved the overall theme of finding your place in life despite your past and creating your own family. And I absolutely loved all the baked goods and coffee talk.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. This book was so fun. I really enjoyed it. This book kept me interested and i enjoyed the book and this genre
I only made it 13% into Legends and Lattes. I really wanted to like this book, I had heard so may great things about it. I just could not understand how at 13% we were not close to being done building the cafe. It wasn't even like they were building it with the love interest and setting a foundation to a relationship. I just needed some sort of relationship and or plot.
