Well this was yet again another utterly awesome read in the Thursday Murder Club series. Starting this book felt like coming home to a warm cosy hug. I absolutely loved it.
Another delightful entry in the Thursday Murder Club series. This time the group takes on a 10 yr old case of a missing reporter who was about to break a big story. Throw in a few new characters, one from the past of one of our main characters and you have more hijinks from this motley crew of pensioners.
Amazing! I laughed, I cried, I laughed again. Richard Osman is a genius, and if he wrote a million Thursday Murder Club books I would read them all.
Richard Osman's senior (aka OAPs in Britain) detectives in a new mystery. As in his previous outings, Osman writes dialogue that crackles. His storytelling is crisp, his characters frequently take over the narrative, the plot is complex and manages to surprise. You can well imagine the action, these books are a TV series begging to be made. Like these books I expect well developed, interesting characters, plot twists, surprises, and characters who reveal themselves as fully fleshed out, and better than realistic.
Richard Osman does not disappoint in this third installment of the Thursday Murder Club! I love these characters, and the mystery is just twisty enough.
I'm not usually into cozy mysteries but a colleague recommended this series to me and I'm so glad they did, because I love these characters and would happily read another twenty books about the Thursday Murder Club. I was especially excited that we got to see Elizabeth's past coming back to haunt her here, which I've been wanting since the beginning (I realize this is only book 3 but I burned through all of them in a week), and am looking forward to seeing more of the new characters we meet this time around. Thank you so much to the publisher for approving me for this early copy!
Another beautiful installment in this series. These are mysteries with so much life! I love the complexity of the characters, who have lived such varied lives, but how the realities of life and aging aren't hidden. One should go forth into life with this type of vigor and heart!
I love these characters! I want to be them when I’m in my 70s!
The Bullet That Missed is the 3rd book in the Thursday Murder Club series. I was VERY excited to get my hands on an early copy because this series is one I always pre-0rder and read as soon as I get it to devour and enjoy every word..... but on the other hand, now I am very sad that it is done! This series is clever and one that reminds me why I love reading so much- it is a joy and so much fun to read! It is also one that I recommend to all of my reader friends.
The newest, The Bullet That Missed was a delight. Our four detectives are at it again- solving a ten year old mystery that is more than it seems. While you never have any doubt about these four- the surprise and delight that comes from reading how they solve the case with their strengths and quirkiness is such fun! I love spending time with the four main characters- they are charming and witty and laugh out loud funny one moment and so endearing the next-- it really does feel like you are with old friends when you open one of these books. The new characters --a Viking trying to turn Elizabeth into his person assassin for example, added to the enjoyment of the book!
I highly recommend this book to any reader- it is sure to be one you will enjoy and recommend to all of your reader friends!
This series is a reliable winner for us. Thank you for the ARC, I know our patrons are looking forward to reading this as well!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC and the chance to review ' The Bullet That Missed' by Richard Osman.
I adore the Thursday Murder Club. The characters are quirky, charming and very British, and they drive the story forward, even if the plot is a bit thin here and there. In this third installment, Osman introduces some new characters that seems like they will be part of the gang moving forward. I hope so, since they are as eccentric as the originals. For the first time the story ends with an opening for the next book, that might just take place in Dubai. We'll see, I'll definitely be there for the 4th book as well.
These books get better and better and better. Elizabeth, Joyce and the gang are wonderful, and the books are not only entertaining and well-plotted, but they are also so character driven and human. A total delight, and Spielberg will make excellent films. My only regret, is that another installment has ended. Long live The Thursday Murder Club
Absolutely LOVE The Thursday Murder Club series and following along with Elizabeth, Joy, Ron, and Ibrahim. This latest is just as good as the first two, if not better! I go through all the emotions with this group: I laugh, I cry, I'm curious, I'm entertained. I actually had to put the book away for the last couple of days when I was close to the end, because I didn't want my time to end with this lovely, hilarious crew, This is another one that I will highly recommend to everyone around me!
Osman has done it again. I love these characters and the way they interact with each other and the worlds around them. This book was phenomenal. I was worried because some series start to lose steam a few books in but the plot in this book was just as interesting as the first two. I also enjoy the new characters that we meet through the Thursday Murder Club. I have been recommending this series to everyone I know and I will be recommending this one too!
For their next case, the elderly detectives of the Thursday Murder Club have decided to crack open the decade-old death of a journalist. Bethany Waites was hot on the trail of a ₤10,000,000 scam when someone pushed her car off a cliff. Between them, Joyce, Elizabeth, Ibrahim, and Ron are sure to solve the murder, the fraud, and any other ancillary crimes they come across. Elizabeth is slightly distracted, though, since a threatening Viking is trying to turn her into his personal assassin. Another hilarious mystery from the quirky (but highly effective) quartet.
The Coopers Chase crew — a septuagenarian quartet consisting of a former MI6 agent, psychologist, nurse, and trade union activist — are reliably entertaining. By this, the third in the series, they’ve gathered quite the ensemble cast around them, and by the end I was hoping that number might have grown by one or two. This latest installment sees quite a few of our regulars finding or enjoying a bit of well-deserved romance, too.
I adore these characters, and spending time with them is just as much a treat as trying to work out the mystery. Joyce remains my favorite, though; behind her wide-eyed innocence and baked goods lies a woman who doesn’t miss a thing.
This was my first time reading a Thursday Murder Club book in print and I have to say I missed Lesley Manville’s perfect narration this time around.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book!
A delightful addition to the series. Osman excels at balancing charming characters within twisty mysteries. Loved it!
The distinct, some may say quirky, characters make the Thursday Murder Club series. In book three, The Bullet That Missed, the gang gets together to solve the mysterious disappearance, or perhaps murder, of a local TV news personality, Bethany Waites. Add in some cryptocurrency money laundering and an old enemy who served as a KGB head in the 1980s, and the result is a fun read. Highly recommended for readers who like senior sleuths who can get away with hiding in plain sight because they are usually ignored.
The gang is back together! The Thursday Murder Club books feel like getting back with old pals now I am onto the third one.
The Bullet That Missed is full of familiar faces and new characters, it rolls along with a gentle sense of humor which had me laughing out loud at the antics and quirks of each character. Joyce’s diary entries never failed to make me laugh!
One of my favorite quotes from the book is from Joyce when she declares that red wine should be paired with one type of biscuit and white wine with another! Talking of biscuits, I like that the book has not been ‘translated’ and sticks with the British words like biscuit rather than cookie. I am a Brit in America and I love a good book from home and Richard Osman has not let me down!
I will be recommending this beauty to anyone who will listen!
Oh how I love this series! Each book is a joy. I just finished this one and am already waiting for the next! Hurry up, please!!
The Bullet That Missed is Osman at his best! Everything I loved about the two previous books was present in this book. The gang is back together and solving mysteries. Each character is so distinct and has its own voice, I really enjoyed this read!
