Thanks NetGalley! This was a super cute and hilarious rom-com. It also has some great family relationships presented. I typically don’t enjoy spice free romcoms but this was excellent!
A really charming book about finding yourself and moving forward in life. The characters are a delight and everyone gets the ending they deserve. I wouldn’t call this romance as much as a “coming of age, if that age is 30” tale. Perci is an excellent heroine and is easy to fall in love with.
having never read a book by this author before i didn’t know what to expect.. fair to say i will be reading others. Perci is unhappy with herself and it’s doesn’t help that her mum meddles in her life. it’s a story of finding yourself and doing what makes you feel good.
This was a story of self discovery and standing up for themselves.
I liked the quirky heroine and her internal monologs.
This leans more towards women's fiction so the romance wasn't the central focus but i wish for some more scenes of the mc's together. I wished to see more chemistry and depth of their relationship.
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I was captivated from the very start, a coming of age story with a slow burn romance that blends together perfectly. Perci has always played by the rules, becoming the person her mother always wanted, until she is dumped over the radio and left to pick up the pieces. This laid the foundation for the greatest opportunity of her life, a do-over. A sequence of unexpected events lands Perci in a fake dating relationship with her neighbour Nate simply to keep her family at bay.
Between the laugh out loud Mimi-ism (endearing remarks from her grandmother) and the boarder line dysfunctional relationship with the rest of her family, Perci has nowhere else to go but up.
While not spicy, The Do-Over provides a heartwarmingly funny and genuine read to add to your summer list — you won’t be disappointed.
Sharon has crafted an absolutely beautiful and relatable debut novel that will undoubtably put her amongst the greats. Her writing style makes it so you cannot help but become invested in the story - making it impossible to put down.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I was thrilled to get the ARC and had to read it immediately! It was perfection. Perci is one of the most relatable characters, and I adored her. Her growth in the book was admirable and very true to real life. My only complaint is that I need a new book right now with more Perci and Nate! I love them as a couple.
It took me a bit to get into to this but then I read half of it in a day. I am fully obsessed with Mimi and Perci’s relationship. I loved all the Mimi quotes at the start of a new chapter. I love the way Mimi encouraged Perci to learn to love herself and be happy with who she is. So much more than just a story about falling in love with a man which I appreciated. Also I kept expecting some spice as I’ve been reading a lot of books with that lately but there wasn’t any and it worked for this book! Overall a fun but inspiring read!
There’s nothing like experiencing the most humiliating break-up in history for a serious wake-up call.…..
A good story like this needs a quiet afternoon, a sofa and a warm blanket. Moving and heartfelt! Enjoy! Whimsical but never frivolous, sweet but not sugary, deeply kind rather than merely nice. I loved it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was one of the first books that I ever went into "blind". I didn't know much about the plot other than the book being a "rom-com". Perci is the main character of the story and unfortunately starts the book out with quite the experience. This leads to her making all sorts of changes in her life.
I enjoyed this book because it was an easy read with nice short chapters. There were parts that had me chuckling because they were so relatable. Also, all the side characters were amazing and complimented Perci so well! The only thing I would want to point out to other readers is that this book is more woman's fiction.
If you're looking for a romantic and spicy read- this will not be it.
If you're looking for a book that feels like a nice cup of cocoa, main character growth, amazing side characters with a small dash of romance then this will be the book for you!
"I will not try to lose weight. I will not try to be more confident. I will not put more effort into my job. I will not date. I will not try to be a better daughter and sister."
This was the first book I read by the author and I loved everything right from the cover and the writing style to the thoughtfully plotted characters and the story line. I loved to see Nate & Perci together but I feel like this book was more focused on her individual life and struggles which is why the romance dulled in comparison. Nate's personality wasn't well described, even his past was just glossed over which made me feel disappointed. But the plot kept me engaged regardless and whenever Perci & Nate interacted, I could feel the chemistry between them. I just hated Perci's parents so much and absolutely anything that came out of their mouths, pissed me off so much. But their behaviour finally pushed Perci to stand up for herself (even if it was for a short while) and I was really glad when she started speaking up more. Overall, the book had some depth and character growth. Perci's grandma Mimi was my favourite character along with an adorable little surprise addition that isn't revealed in the blurb. I recommend reading this book if you're into reading about a curvy heroine who is confident in her own skin and does not want to change.

A cute romance book.
I requested this to have a comfortable escapism and that's exactly what the book gave me.
Loved it, adored it.
LOVED this! I read it in one sitting.
Persi's story which followed her self-discovery was well-written and relatable from her inner struggles to family drama and "boy" problems. The side characters and their stories were also well-written. This was such a cute Rom-com, although I will be honest the main focus of the story was Perci's self-discovery, not the romance in her life.
I loved Perci and Nate. Nate was such a sweetheart and gentleman, he had me swooning. *Spoiler Alert* The part where he goes back to confirms they had a date! *insert emoji heart eyes*
One of the many things I enjoyed about this story were the "Mimi-isms" Some resonated with me and some made me laugh, I really looked forward to these at the beginning of each chapter and highlighted many.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and am adding it to my "Faves" list.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed the book. I can relate so much to the Perci and her growth through out the book was inspiring,as someone that struggles with confidence and being their true self. I loved Lilah, she was one of my favorite characters. I hope the author write a second book about Phee and Mathias. I can't wait to read more from this author. Thank you for sending me the book.
I just reviewed The Do-Over by Sharon M. Peterson. #TheDoOver #NetGalley

I might have read this book in one sitting....
I can't express how much I adored this book. It was a cute, fast-paced book and the characters were also well-written. The romance was so cute and I really liked Nate.
The main character was relatable and I liked that she had flaws.
Overall, a nice feel good book.

This was a great debut novel by Sharon M Peterson. I didn't realize it was a sweet romance until I had already started, but the story was really good and made up for the no spice. This isn't your typical romance story and is more about self-discovery, a few characters really found themselves throughout the book.
I really loved Perci, she has an overbearing mother that she never seems to be good enough for, but a grandmother and a best friend that make up for it and help her find her way. The book starts with a list of anti-resolutions she makes with Matthias (the bestie) because her mom is always trying to get her to better herself and Matthias just wants her to realize she is already perfect as she is. This also comes on the heels of her co-worker/boyfriend breaking up with her in a super embarassing way. The list includes things like not trying to lose weight, not dating and not trying to please her mom. I loved watching Perci learn to stand up for herself and start doing things because she enjoyed them, even if they made her family upset.
Nate was a great character too. He was so sweet and I always swoon over the single dad trope. He loved Perci from the start, even when she was embarrassing herself constantly and could never say the right thing.
Mimi really stole the show for me. This woman was everything I hope to be. She is such a spitfire and an amazing role model for her granddaughters, never giving a damn about what others think and always singing to her own tune. Each chapter starts with a saying of hers and they were all hilarious. My two favorites were: "If life gives you lemons, give them back and ask for grapes. You can make wine with grapes." and "Three can keep a secret, if you're willing to murder two of 'em." but I could have quoted another 15, they were fantastic.
To be honest, I still hated her mom at the end of the book. I think she was trying to change, but she was really damaging to Perci and I'm not sure it was enough for me. I would have preferred to see her mom constantly reaching out and Perci ignoring her calls instead of the opposite, although I guess yay for Perci being the bigger person.
All in all, this was a great book and I'll read any sequels (please please please I need Phee's, Matthias' and Bria's stories!) despite sweet romances not usually being my thing.
I don’t generously give out 5 star ratings but this book is everything. The writing style was perfection, the flow of the story kept me intrigued, and I didn’t want to put this book down. I found myself chuckling, swooning, and crying while devouring the book in practically one sitting. (Seriously - 20% to 100% because I couldn’t put it down)
Perci Mayfield finds herself boyfriendless, jobless, and with a mother that makes her feel worthless compared to her sister. Thanks to her best friend, she sets out to find the “new Perci” and along the way find a new friend, Nate, who while pretending to be her fake boyfriend, ends up actually dating him.
The relationship between Perci and Nate was so enjoyable to read. Perci was so relatable and the family dynamics is one that I think a lot of readers could relate to as well. More so, I loved the character development over the course of the story. The family realizing how toxic that they were being, but understanding that things can change - not overnight, but realistically over the course of time.
Huge Kudos to Sharon M Peterson on your debut book - I can’t wait for future releases!
Thank you to #NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
While I had gone into this thinking that it would be a romance, it was really a journey of self discovery—and I loved it.
As someone who was notoriously unlucky in love and seemed to fall short in every other department I was rooting for Perci from the get-go.
Watching her slowly come into herself, gain confidence, and really find what she loves after being held to her moms impossibly high standards was beautiful.
All of the characters were unique and single dad (ish) romances have my heart so that was an added bonus.
This book was funny, sweet, and a great light, quick read. There was romance but I liked that it focused on Perci and had more than just the standard hot neighbor plot line.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this arc!
Thank you #netgalley for the advanced copy!
Perci can't catch a break! She spends her life trying to please her mother, whether it is listening to fashion and food advice, career and romantic future. When things don't go Perci's way and she is unexpectedly dealing with a public break up, she takes the opportunity to live life for herself. Her best friend Mathias decides to make a new years resolution list that encourages Perci to stop pleasing others, do what is best for her and what makes her happy. During this time, she finds herself lying to her parents stating she has a boyfriend, she then has to loop in her neighbor to help solidify her comments. We watch the progression of Perci, the evolvement of her family and ultimately her happiness.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Bookouture and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Light, quick, sweet, charming read.
So how do you feel when someone break up with you on live video? Well, this book was another funny comedy and romance book that will make you laugh out loud!
Perci after her humiliated break up makes up New Year Resolution which involved not dating any men. So then one day, she accidently let's out the name of the imaginary boyfriend--in which case, the not so imaginary bad boy neighbor Nate. Then they start fake dating each other but eventually, they start falling for each other.
Even though this was the debut book of the author, I actually enjoyed reading this book. There were some funny parts in the book that would make the reader laugh out loud. I do like Percy's relationship with her own mother and Mimi her grandmother, whom she seemed to be taking an inspiration from. I also like the friendship between Percy and Nate and how it slowly developed into romance. I enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to read more books from this author!
If you like a cheesy summer romance, then I recommend this book for you--worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
