LOVED IT I FEEL INSANE!!! Margaret Owen is truly fantastic at writing and I love every word she writes. Absolutely terrified to see where this one goes!

I was already excited for this sequel, and the sample only made me more excited!

I started reading this book based on the description provided and the cover art. I was very fascinated to find that within the first two pages the author used the opening paragraph line of "Once upon a time" three times in different paragraphs. There was a frequent amount of formatting errors that made this copy very hard to read. When you get further into the book you find that instead of using a character's name or even she/he; the author continues to use the description 'the wicked maid". It is used so many times within 5 paragraphs that it got me a little frustrated because I already knew who the author was speaking about.

I had to constantly put this book down to get through even the first few pages. All the descriptions because extra descriptive and the constant use of the same words caused me the reader to be frustrated with the book. I wasn't able to finish this entire book with all the errors I found. I was expecting something a little more fluid. I understand that this is a negative review for this book but I can't see a reader finishing this book with all these issues that I found. I read avidly and through many different genres and this book did not win me over.

I read this two-chapter preview in a blissful haze. Little Thieves was one of my favorite books from 2021, and if the entire sequel is anything like this first chapter, it will be everything I hoped and more. Vanja is so delightfully and almost accidentally irreverent, and this chapter is a master class in “if it can go wrong, it will go wrong” for the protagonist. And poor Emeric, the best book boyfriend ever. I just want good things to happen to him… but I can guarantee from this preview that only struggles are in store.

This is my highest anticipated book of the year! I'm so excited to read the full thing after this taste!

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS SEQUEL FROM MY FAVORITE AUTHOR. Owen never disappoints and this has been such a fun series with amazing characters. This is going to be fantastic.

I loved being able to get a sneak peek of this book! I'm super excited for the release of the full ARC. Margaret Owen is one of my favorite authors. I loved her previous duology, The Merciful Crow. I will read anything she writes because I love her style. She has a way of writing characters that just give you all the feels, and her plotting is always epic. I love the mythology and lore in Little Thieves and I can't wait to dive further into Vanja's story. This sampler is really hyping me up!

I read the first book in the series, Little Thieves, and immediately fell in love. Learning that a second book was coming out made me overjoyed, and this chapter sampler is feeding my impatience for the next book. Vanja is very much starting her own cult. 5 stars.

ASDFGHJKL OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS EVEN BETTER THAN I HOPED 😭😍 I am unwell, why must we wait until May for more?? 😭 I already love where this is going, I can already see the themes emerging and know it's going to hold my heart as much as Little Thieves (if not more 👀)

i've been one of the people who's eagerly waiting for painted devils bc little thieves was such a perfect book !! this and little thieves deserves so much more recognition tbh, the way the plot and the characters were written is so beautiful.

SO MANY ONCE UPON A TIME'S U'LL BE OBSESSED !!! especially with the characters, oh god, don't get me started, THEY'RE SO PRECIOUS AND PERFECT AND NOT PERFECT AT THE SAME TIME, I LOVE THEMM HSJDBJXNS

My oh my. What a way to get me even more pumped for a book I'm already so excited for. This was so good and even though it was only 2 chapters I'm dying for the rest. Little Thieves is one of the best books I've read in the past few years. Can't wait to see what shenanigans Vanja gets herself caught up in this time.

I finished Little Thieves about a month or so ago which makes me so excited to review this chapter for the sequel! As always, Owen’s writing is gorgeous and feels luxurious to read. It’s always a treat. One suggestion I have is to start off with a little bit of a refresher. Even though I read the first book a month ago, I forgot the names of the characters and a lot of the context. It was a struggle having to refer to the first book in order to understand what was happening. I can’t wait to get a copy and see what happens!

So I'll admit that I knew very little going in -- I'd heard about Little Thieves, and was drawn in (aren't we all) by the gorgeous cover.

The writing was amazing -- self-effacing and at times even a bit crude, but always hilarious! Vanja's inner monologues are relatable and it's clear that she doesn't really take herself all that seriously (even when she does). Her seemingly "well, I guess that happened" attitude softens the blow of what would appear to be insidious actions (becoming a cult leader), and gives them a little bit more perspective.

The fairytale-esque nature of the book also lends to the faint magical-ness that seems to imbue Margaret Owen's writing.

All in all, 10/10 would recommend! Can't wait to read this book!

I was in in the middle of five books, but after starting this, didn’t want to put it down! Little Thieves was already my favorite book of 2021, and I have a feeling Painted Devils is going to end up being my favorite book of 2023, too! Margaret Owen excels at writing unique characters and witty dialogue with an emotional punch that leaves you desperate for more.

This was awesome! This has my so hyped to get the full novel and read it! Oh my god, I loved it so much! I won’t rest until I get a full copy in my hands!

What a great sneak peak into the next installment of this story! It has taken an unexpected turn with Vanja accidentally creating a cult and this chapter sampler has me even more excited for the book!

A handful of pages in which Vanja’s story takes an unexpected turn when she accidentally starts a cult to a sleeping god and just like that I will be counting down the days until Painted Devils is released!

Recently I finished Little Thieves and I was craving more and when I found out there was a chapter sampler I was simply estatic. I'm so excited that we get more of Vanja and Emeric I loved them so much. The fact Vanja accidently started a cult is not shocking to me and honestly pretty hilarious, this seems like something Vanja would do accidently. Hopefully we see more Death / Fortune in this book or they have some little appearences.
