Kimberly Belle has written another great story. It is entertaining and makes you want to keep reading. The book is told from Alex and her family and AC, Alex’s assistant. Alex is a huge social media influencer whose influence is crushed by a viral post where she trashes another big social media personality. Alex and her family are targeted and afraid for their lives. I loved how this book let you put seemingly unrelated pieces together.
I love the authors very visual writing style. I could picture the story playing out in front of me. I highly recommend this wonderfully thrilling book!
The Personal Assistant by Kimberly Belle is a fast paced domestic thriller about a social influencer whose life goes downhill following a controversial post.
Written in dual POV this novel will keep you in suspense until the very end.
I’ve read all her books and am usually a big fan of this author, but nope this one just fell flat for me. I can’t say I loved it and won’t be recommending it to any friends. The ending fell completely flat for me and I hope it gets fixed in the final copy. Thank you to HTP books for my copy.
Seems like it is an actual THING to make a living as an “influencer,” and while I had read a couple of stories about the risks and rewards of this way of life (!), reading about Kimberly Belle’s female protagonist, a young woman named Alex, really made it all seem real/possible. Alex and her husband have a nice life, which starts getting even nicer as Alex’s online posts start to become wildly popular and she starts raking in the money and perks that come along with that kind of success. Alex hires an assistant to help her and things go smoothly until a controversy erupts over a post that goes viral – and not in the good way!
Alex reaches out to her assistant AC, but the young woman who helped her hold everything together has disappeared, along with Alex’s secrets. It’s a twisty cautionary tale, and a fun read. Thanks to Harlequin/Park Row and NetGalley for providing a copy of The Personal Assistant in exchange for this honest review. Four stars.
This one caught me by surprise! I’ll admit, at first I thought, ok ANOTHER influencer story, eyeroll, but the suspense in this thriller really drew me in. I didn’t find the main character insufferable like most stories about influencers. The ploy of setting the reader up to think AC’s story was the assistant and Patrick the mystery man was a solid decision. This was a fast read for me because it hooked me early and kept me wanting more.
This book was just ok for me, not great. I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters and never found myself really rooting for anyone. I finished it because I wanted to see how it ended, but honestly, I could have put it down and not thought twice about it.
Alex is an influencer on social media and she has a personal assistant, Anna Claire or AC, who seems to want Alex's life. Alex's posts are very successful and she is ranking in the money and freebies until a post shows up supposedly from Alex attacking another social media influencer. All of a sudden, Alex and her family are being threatened from all sorts of people. on and off social media. I liked this book but I found it a little confusing at times, especially the ending.
Thank you NetGalley and Park Row/Harlequin Trade for the ARC of this very interesting book.
Many thanks to @negalley for my advance copy of this. I LOVE Kimberly Belle. She knows how to write an F’ed up trainwreck and she does it so well. This time our trainwreck involves a Social Media Influencer (you all know you are curious as it hits closer to home for all of us Booksta peeps) This really delves into the dark side of social media.
I loved that we got several POVs in this story. It kept me guessing and wondering what was real and what wasn’t. There were several twists I did not see coming and the way the characters are developed and written make them realistic and I was straight sus of them all. It was tense, fast paced and had a pretty crazy ending I did not see coming. No one writes domestic suspense like Kimberly Belle. She just does it so damn bingeable!
When mommy blogger/influencer, Alex, finally hits a million followers, she and her personal assistant, AC, throw a drunken celebration. The next morning, Alex wakes up to find she posted her not so popular thoughts on another popular influencer and the internet goes wild. Alex is supposed to be uplifting and girl power messages but taking shots at other woman. Although Alex has said those things to her husband and her two daughters, she would never post those thoughts to her social media account. Or did she? As she tries to get a handle on the situation she turns to her personal assistant for help and AC is nowhere to be found. Alex’s husband put AC in a cab that night and sent her home. Where is she now?
The Personal Assistant was a twisty story where you do not know who to trust or who to believe. It is told from alternating viewpoints with some flashbacks. The chapters ended with just enough questions to keep you reading until the end. The ending, I never saw it coming! It allows you to see the dark side of social media and how it affects those around you. I highly recommend this mystery/psychological domestic thriller from author Kimberly Belle.
‘The Personal Assistant’ by Kimberly Belle was an extremely gripping, entertaining thriller that had me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. I was sucked in from the very beginning. Definitely recommend!
The Personal Assistant by Kimberly Belle
One of the most revealing points this book makes is the presence of social media and what it can do. How it lives on forever. How one bad choice can follow you for your lifetime. We’re all aware of how sites can be manipulated but this story makes it all very real.
Alex is an influencer. She constantly posts about her life, her family, where she is, where she’s been and has racked up quite a following that brings in a hefty paycheck……..so why would you want to shut that all down? Well maybe the fact that you were filmed talking trash about a young starlet …and all the while sending out motivational blurbs to your following. She is accused being a hypocrite and all those followers turn against her.
But who posted that video? It seems that the personal assistant she hired and has been with her 24/7 for the past months now has disappeared. This assistant has embedded herself in their lives…….in everything they do. She must have done this…... who else would know all this? And where is she? More the point, WHO is she.
A solid mystery story that takes you back bit by bit to the real identity of the assistant.
Alex is an influencer who needs an assistant. AC goes missing after a big mistake and now Alex is under suspicion- a little too many alternative perspectives (every author is doing this now ugh)
I was given an advanced readers copy of The Personal Assistant. It was my first book by Kimberly Belle and it will not be my last. It was a solid thriller. It kept my attention. I could not put the book down. There were several twists in the book that I did not see coming. I thought there was complexity to each of the three main characters. Nothing was black and white. There were shades of gray. I was very satisfied with the ending. I do not like books where the endings are happy and everything is nicely wrapped up.
This is the 5th book I've read of Belles, it also happens to be my favorite this far!
The Personal Assistant kept me guessing the entire way through. I was SO certain I knew what was going on! Thrilled to say I didn't!! I love a thriller that surprises me.
This book is TWISTY AF!! I very much enjoyed the storyline and the characters, even the shady ones. Loved that there are multiple POVs. I suspected everyone at some point throughout the story. The conclusion was very satisfying!
Big thanks to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing and Park Row
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.

Best-selling author Kimberly Belle tackles Influencer fandom, step parenting and marital secrets in her newest domestic thriller, “The Personal Assistant”.
Alex is a mother of twelve year old twin girls, and Patrick, her husband and the girls’ stepfather, completes her life. But when her Instagram feed fandom skyrockets, she is soon an Influencer, and is reveling in the fame and attention her feed brings her. When she hires beautiful, brilliant A.C as her assistant, Alex feels relieved to have some of the professional weight lifted from her shoulders. But when a nasty post is shared on her feed, one Alex is convinced she never posted, and A.C disappears, Alex is certain that her assistant is responsible. But when the police show up to investigate A.C’s disappearance, and her husband is brutally interrogated, revealing secrets Alex never knew, she begins to fear for her career, her marriage, and her life.
“Assistant” is told from various POV’s, including Alex, her husband Patrick, and her assistant, A.C. Belle scatters just enough tension and suspense through each chapter to make it impossible to stop reading, and I was pulled into the plot from page one. Belle steps into the shoes of an “Influencer” easily, highlighting the ups and downs of life in the spotlight. Even though Belle presents a life and “career” that is almost completely foreign to me (“Instagram influencer”), I was still able to relate to Alex and root her on from the beginning.
Of course there’s a twist (it wouldn’t be Belle if there wasn’t), and it’s just as unexpected and powerful as you’d expect. I love how Belle closely tied all her loose ends after keeping me guessing throughout. I am a huge fan of Belle, and although this genre has exploded as of late, making unique and entertaining books a dime a dozen, I always know I can rely on Belle for some suspenseful reading. “The Personal Assistant” brings domestic suspense into the modern world, with genuine and relatable characters, a feat Belle pulls off with ease.
A game of CAT and MOUSE, the DARK side of social media and putting too much TRUST into who you let inside your home are all themes in “The Personal Assistant” by Kimberly Belle!
BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5
Influencer Alex has turned into a social media success with her popular mommy and me account “Unapologetically Alex”! This account revolves around her being a mother of twin teenage girls and has blown up so much that she had to hire a personal assistant, AC, to help her run the account.
One morning Alex wakes up with a killer hangover after celebrating reaching 1 million followers 🥂! However, she immediately finds out that a controversial post under her name has gone viral and all of her followers have turned against her! Threats flood in towards Alex and her family and in the wink of an eye she has been “cancelled” 🤐!!!
Alex turns to AC to help with major damage control, but AC is nowhere to be found! AC has access to all of Alex’s accounts, a key to their home and has been Alex’s confidante for the last 6 months. WHY has AC suddenly gone quiet in the midst of absolute madness?
Thank you kindly to @parkrowbooks @harpercollinsca @netgalley @kimberlysbelle for my advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review! This psychological thriller releases on November 29, 2022!
I absolutely loved this book. Alex is a social media influencer with a million followers. She decides to hire an assistant to help her. But after a night of drinking, Alex sees that a controversial post has been posted, and her assistant is nowhere to be found.
This one kept me intrigued from the very beginning. The characters are not likeable at all, but they're not supposed to be. The alternating POV was an aspect I really enjoyed. This one was a slow burn but overall I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of The Personal Assistant by Kimberly Belle!
I enjoyed this book. It is a psychological thriller with different points of view in different chapters. Alex’s assistant has gone missing after a party where Alex went viral after instagramming about another influencer while she was drunk. A body turns up and Alex and her husband try to solve the mystery to preserve their perfect life. I have never read anything by Kimberly Belle before and I look forward to reading more.
“The Personal Assistant” is a captivating psychological thriller that explores the power of social media. Influencer Alex is riding high, having reached one million followers, when she suddenly goes viral in a very bad way. As she wrestles with what happened, and how to fix the problem, she also must deal with the sudden disappearance of her personal assistant. This is a book where details are revealed slowly, allowing the reader to gain a better picture of what is really going on.. There is plenty of action as Alex and her family deal with a wide variety of threats and challenges, while a secondary storyline unfolds in the background. How are the events of the past and present connected? I thought I knew, but I was wrong. Although there is one explanation that crops up very late in the book and I cannot quite reconcile how it fits with other events, this is an engaging and very satisfying story. And it will definitely make you think about the role that social media plays in life today. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.
** Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. **
Alex is a social media influencer, posting motivational takes on her family and life. She has created a persona that is known for being upbeat and positive, but social media is fickle and, after a drunken night and a post she doesn't remember uploading, Alex's life is turned upside down. What results is a twisting tale of lies, murder, and internet trolls. And it all leads back to one person, the mysterious AC, Alex's personal assistant.
The Personal Assistant was an interesting read. Starting off slow and then building into a crescendo that then crashed down into an odd and unsatisfying ending. Told from three different POVs, each one of them an unreliable narrator, the story twists and turns in a way that keeps you guessing. After I got past the initial set up of the story, the book itself was great. My one complaint, though, is the ending felt forced and didn't fit the tone of the rest of the book.
If you like psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators, this is the book for you!
