This was a fun post-apocalyptic magical world full of adventure. I love the art style and vibrant colors. It definitely felt like the beginning of a new story where things will take off in the sequel. If you like wholesome adventure stories then this might be something you enjoy. As much as I enjoyed the story, I didn’t feel connected to the characters much and I wanted more humor.
This is such a fun read! It’s interesting to watch as Marguerite learns more and more about herself and magic, and the ending is so unbelievably satisfying. I highly recommend it!
Danger and other unknown risks is a fun action filled graphic novel. The pacing was good and I often found myself struggling to put it down!
Danger and Other Unknown Risks is a great YA graphic novel. It follows Marguerite de Pruitt and her talking dog, Daisy, as they embark on a quest to find three totems that her uncle needs to complete a spell that will save the world. In this universe the world as we know it ended in 2000, but instead of technology being the culprit, it was magic.
I loved the story and the art in this graphic novel. It was such a fun read full of adventure. The magic was interesting and sometimes strange. I’m really hoping this gets a sequel because I feel like there is still plenty of story to tell.
This was so cute and honestly such a fun read! The story was great and the artwork beautiful a lot of fun for a lighthearted graphic novel when you're looking for a break from the world.
This was stupid cute. I really enjoyed the story loved the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
Full of fun and adventure! I really enjoyed my time reading this graphic novel.
Thank you Penguin Teen and NetGalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review!
3.5 rounded up.
I was given this book as an ARC from Penguin Teen and read it through the NetGalley app on my phone. That was tough! My kindle wouldn’t read it proper and graphic novels are hard to read in e-format.
The book starts off in the middle of a quest. I felt I might have missed a book one, but this is book one.
Anyway, Margurite is on a quest to find the three totems her uncle sent her to find so he could save the world. Along the way she brings along a new friend Jacine from the past (1999) and together with Margurite’s talking dog Daisy, they traverse some sketchy places.
The mayor who protects the last totem tells them that Uncle Bernard is evil and tries to warn them of the real danger they are facing.
There were twists and turns that were very neat and the illustration and character banter was great. They are witty and snarky teens and I loved it!
I might have to get the physical book for my 12yo
Perfect, absolutely no notes.
I'm a bookworm turned author and publishing industry professional, and this book still managed to surprise me with its twist at the end. Which, and I promise I'm not being egotistical, doesn't happen often, so I was thrilled when it did!
The commentary on social conservatism, societal change and evolution and the refusal of certain groups *cough* white men *cough* to move on from the past was brilliant. The book's magic system and the slow rollout of the hero's journey to learning the truth of the mission had me on the edge of my seat.
This was…a book. But it was definitely not one for me. It was far too weird. Honestly, it was just cringey to read. I think there are people who will enjoy it, so I don’t want to say too much negative about it, because I don’t think it was objectively bad, I just really don’t think it was for me. For some reason, I kept thinking of Captain Underpants? I don’t know why. I haven’t read Captain Underpants in about a decade and a half, when my brother used to ask me to read them to him, but it felt like it gave the same vibes. I think if you took out the tiny miniscule, excessively unnecessary romance, it could be marketed to children, and that might be better.
Thank you penguin teen for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
Honestly… I loved this! It was fun, funny and adventurous. The relationships and friendships were so sweet. I was on the edge of my seat to see how it would end. And it took some turns that I did not expect! Such a blast to read, I truly enjoyed it!
Thank you Penguin Teen for providing me with the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Danger and Other Unknown Risks by Ryan North; Erica Henderson.
This ya graphic novel follows Marguerite and her talking dog daisy as they embark on a journey to save the world.
The world ended on January 1st 2000 but not in the way you think it did. Magic "invaded" the world and took over, leaving technology usless.
Now Margerite must collect the magic totems for her uncle in hopes that his powerful spell can destroy all the dark magic.
This story was full of adventure, discovery and twists. With just a tiny touch of romance. The characters were loveable and the growth they experienced was heart warming.
This was my first time reading a graphic novel and I was beyond impressed with the quality of artwork and the amazing story that accompanied it. It was a quick, fast paced read that easily be enjoyed by both a YA and adult audience. The story flowed nicely and was filled with LOL moments mixed with exciting action packed scenes. This is a book that not only I enjoyed but I didn’t enjoy with my young reader. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for this ARC

this book was a quick, fun, exciting, high action! i’m definitely getting into more graphic novels, and this one is a great one to start with!
Danger & Other Unknown Risks is a quirky, fun graphic novel about saving the world and conquering the challenge of a magic-filled society. I felt like this was something you'd see on early saturdays in the 90s, and so the fact the graphic novel had this theme was definitely on point. I loved the artistry and I can't wait to see what else comes from this author & artist in the future!
yes yes yes yes yes
North & Henderson's Squirrel Girl run got me into reading comics, and has changed my life dramatically (this is not an exaggeration, hi, really was seminal stuff to me). Seeing what they can do with a wholly original story is magical. It's beautiful. It's perfect. I wasn't entirely sure what was going on for the first third or so--I liked the premise, but I wasn't sure I was following the plot--but everything snapped into place wonderfully and chillingly and hilariously in the second half. I love this book so much. Thank you for this one.
Danger and Other Unknown Risks by Ryan North and Erica Henderson was a hilarious read. This story had me laughing out loud the entire time. Marguerite and Daisy make an exceptional team at saving the world. I thought the scene where the kid runs away saying this is something my DM would say was hilarious. So true. Sounds like something I would be saying or thinking in that given situation. I felt when Jacin came in the story became even funnier. I felt like there could have been more to the ending, as it felt it wrapped up rather quickly, and I wanted to know a little more.
The graphics were nicely done. I found the font hard to read at times, mostly because it felt too small.
I received an eARC from Penguin Teen through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
