Honor N Duty, the sixth book in the Federal K-9 series by Tee O’Fallon, really takes suspense, intrigue, and tension to a higher level. The puzzle pieces of the missing proof of illegal activities and money that drives the premise of the story are cleverly woven throughout the story…thereby driving the curiosity that keeps the reader engaged and the pages turning.
As this series progresses it keeps getting more and more engaging.
This ARC book was complimentary…provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Two years after his brother’s murder in jail, Department of Homeland Security K-9 Officer Kade Sampson is still haunted by guilt. No man should have to arrest his own brother, even if he is laundering money for a drug cartel. Fortunately, Laia Velez—his brother’s gorgeous widow—never learned the truth about Kade’s involvement. But when she asks him for help, he knows that trouble with the cartel is far from over… it was an intense and suspenseful read. And voluntarily leaving my review.
Honor ‘N’ Duty is the sixth title in the Federal K-9 series, and although I’ve only read the more recent titles (so far) in this series, I wasn’t lost at all in regards to the series’ arch story. It is my intention to go back to the beginning but for now, I enjoyed Kade, Laia, and of course Smoke (Kade’s dog) and Rosa (Laia’s daughter) so very much. There were times when Rosa and Smoke stole scenes (which I adored while enjoying a smile at their antics) and the bond between a little girl and pup was so realistic and believable.
Kade was attracted to Laia long ago, but she was his brother’s girlfriend and then wife so he never let that attraction get out of hand usually by not being around them much which his work made rather easy. But Kade had the painful duty to arrest his brother for his dealings with the cartel, and when his brother was killed Kade’s guilt knew no bounds. It’s been years since he’s seen Laia and Rosa but his brother’s widow has reached out to him when her home was ransacked and she and Rosa were being watched by someone. It’s time to put the past behind them and step up to protect the woman he could see a future with and his niece that he’s falling more in love with each day. But to reach that future they have to survive and discover just why the cartel is after Laia.
I enjoyed being back in this world. The danger is intense, but so is the growing attraction between Kade and Laia. They each have baggage concerning Kade’s brother, and the truth will eventually come out. Running from danger is one thing, but neither of them can outrun the sizzling chemistry between them nor the love that is steadily gaining ground. I loved Smoke, and wish he had a larger part to play in this story, but that is one amazing dog.
I had fun here in a story that is both intense and lighthearted in spots, a perfect combination. If you enjoy a well-written, believable romantic suspense along with the adorable antics of a dog and the tiny human he’s adopted then you’ll feel right at home with Honor ‘N’ Duty.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Kade and Laia are the lovers in this wonderful story. O’Fallon always ALWAYS delivers! This has it all - thrills, hot times, suspense, and a completely charming dog, of course. I only had the opportunity to read the first the first novel in this series, but I would like the go back and read the others in the series. It’s absolutely great.
I liked the story but I didn’t love it. I think the major thing preventing me from really loving it is the insta love. OK they met in the elevator and the chemistry was great, then the next time they see each other its at her wedding and then *poof* six years go by and Kade is still head over heels for Laia, also he’s basically estranged from his brother because they happened to like the same girl? So that did kinda bug me.
I think the writing is really good. I do like Tee O’Fallons style of writing. This is the second book I've read by the author and even though I didn’t totally love this one I'll definitely be reading more from her. I love the dogs from these series, and action with a side of romance (or romance with a side of action?) is definitely up my alley.
Thank you to Tangled the publisher and NetGalley for giving me this book
The story involves Laia, and her husband Josh, who is killed because of stealing money from a wealthy drug lord Conto, whom he was his accountant. He was laundering money keeping the info in a ledger. Laia having her place ransacked, she reaches out to Kane, home land security officer, and Joshes brother for help. The drug lord wanted the ledger.
The tie becomes an intense love at first site which developed years before when they both met in an elevator. , Kane has a k-9, home land security dog, Laia has a daughter Rosa.
The element of solving a crime was equally woven between the passion for each other.
For me, I understood the crime and figured it was going to be solved. In addition you knew the romance would be also be a good ending.
The story with the dog, smoke and the daughter Roma, was so cute.
I am an an exception to the reviews. Even as a romantic fiction, I didn’t by love at first sight for years, even related, with beautiful people.. The crime so obvious .
I am not hooked on the serial
Honor ‘N’ Duty is the latest release in the Federal K-9 series by Tee O’Fallon. I enjoyed reading Kade and Laia’s story and absolutely fell in love with little Rosa and the very intelligent Smoke. When Laia’s home is ransacked and she believes that she is being followed she turns to the only man who can keep her and her daughter safe. Will Kade and Laia find and stop the drug lord and his cronies before it is too late? Read Honor ‘N’ Duty to find out.
If you enjoy romantic suspense stories featuring federal agents with their amazing k-9 partners, then Honor ‘N’ Duty is the book for you.
Fantastic romantic suspense! Kade and Smoke will make you swoon. Kade has been raised from the cradle with the concept of honor even if it costs him the woman he could love. This book had all the feels and though it is part of a wonderful series it stands on its own just fine.
This is a second chance for Kade and Laia. A unique story of a second chance because Kade has after all these years a thing for his dead brother's wife. The story is full of suspense and revealing secrets. What I didn't like at all is how in a very difficult, delicate situation Laia didn't have enough trust in Kade. But all in all another great from Tee O’Fallon.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
Honor 'N' Duty is the soy of Kade and Laia, set amidst the world of drug cartels. Laia's late husband - and Kade's brother - worked for the drugs cartel but before he could turn on them, he was killed. He left behind a wife, a daughter and a ledger full of all the transactions he made on behalf of the criminal he was working for which the criminal wants back. K-9 serviceman Kade has stayed away from his sister-in-law Laia, knowing that if he gets too close, he'll give his feelings for her away but when she calls him for help, he has no choice but to respond to her call.
Any books of Tee O'Fallon I've read so far, I've enjoyed and this book is no exception. The tension, the chemistry between the characters and the story overall was brilliant. I found the conflict between Kade and Laia really interesting, as was the push and pull between them. This was an edge of your seat, gripping romance I'd highly recommend.
Loved this story - and the interplay between the main characters. Tee does an amazing job of making the story come to life page after page!
Literally obsessed. I was gripped by this story from page 1. I just adored the characters and was all-in for their romance. I am such a sucker for this sort-of second change at love, and this one was executed perfectly. The pacing moved well, and I couldn't put it down. The ending was everything I wanted it to be. I loved so much of this book! I can't wait for the next one!
This is book 6 in the Federal K-9 series but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. In this one we get Kade and Laia's story. Two years after his brother’s murder in jail, Kade is still racked by guilt. No man should ever have to arrest his own brother, even if he is laundering money for a drug cartel. Fortunately, Laia Velez—his brother’s gorgeous widow—never learned the truth about Kade’s involvement. But when she asks him for help, he knows that trouble with the cartel is far from over. Kade is the last person Laia wants to call. But between her house being trashed and feeling like she and her daughter are being watched, Laia isn’t taking any chances. Kade may be their only chance to survive whatever is coming their way.
Ok so I really wanted to love this story. It sounded great from the blurb. But I had a hard time getting into it. I'm not really sure why it wasn't as great as I had hoped though. Kade and Laia are likable characters. The action and suspense are on pace and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen. But, it almost seemed like the story was following an outline and it had to hit these points for each part. That's about the only way I can put it. It's not like the story is bad, because it definitely isn't. But it isn't my favorite of the series and I was so hopeful that it would be up there with the rest for me.
This was, as always with a Tee O'Fallon book, a highly enjoyable read from beginning 'till end. The perfect mix up of romance and suspense and a solid addition to the K9 series that I've come to love so so much over the years.
Feeling wise, this isn't my fave of the series because I missed a bit more connection between characters here and there I think? It's hard to put my finger on what it exactly is because in general I really liked the characters though. But I think that the connection of the handler & K9 wasn't as much spotlighted as it normally is so that could be it.
But overall seeing this was just yet again a really solid and fun romantic suspense, that left me craving more when finished.
It has the steamy but solid build up romance I crave for, a cute kid and dog relationship that I always find so endearing, it has of course the sexy K9 handler himself (can we ever get enough of that combination of awesome K9 dog and the handler? Not me!) and it has the welcoming suspense elements which were really exciting and well written down and took the story on to a next level I think!
You can read this story as a stand alone,
but I highly recommend to pick up the other books in the series as well!
Honor ‘N’ Duty is the sixth book in the Federal K-9 series and like the previous books, the twists & turns kept me on the edge of my chair until I finished it. This was Kade and Laia’s story. It was beautifully written and full of heartbreaking emotions. I loved seeing Kade and Laia's second chance at love succeed. Watching Kade in previous books and seeing his pain when all his other friends found their happiness was sad. I was so glad to see him finally find his happy ever after. This was another terrific book for the series, and I am sad to see the series end. I hope to see Jamie’s story in another series since he is the only one who did not have a story. He was such a great guy, and his sadness was easy to see.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When I read Tough Justice two months ago, I thought that Serve ‘N Protect was the last of the Federal K9 series of Tee O’ Fallon.
Imagine my surprise when the cover of Honor ‘N Duty caught my eye on Netgalley. Of course, a happy surprise, because Tee’s K9 dogs are always a treat.
And Smoke is no exception. Partnered up with Kade Sampson, who is working in the Department of Homeland Security. When Kade gets a phone call from his ex sister-in-law Laia, he doesn’t hesitate. Her home has been trashed and someone is clearly looking for something. It all seems to tie back to Kade’s brother Josh, who was murdered six years ago. Laia really didn’t want to call Kade, who had ghosted her all those years from the moment she married his brother. But the ties that Josh had with a mafia cartel seem to still follow her and her daughter. And although Josh always told her that Kade was a selfish bastard, she can’t reconcile this with his actions: from the moment she placed the call, Kade has stepped up and kept her and her daughter safe. As always Tee keeps us on our toes. Unexpected twits and turns, with action and suspense keep you up at night. Although all of the books in the series can be read as a standalone, it is much more fun to recognize all the other K9 dogs (and owners) coming to the rescue in this story. Loved it! Four out of five stars and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Honor N Duty by Tee O’fallon is a well written romantic suspense filled with hunky heroes and K9s.
The opening elevator scene was my favorite scene. The author builds us up to the instant chemistry and connection between Kade and Laia. And as the elevator doors open we crash and burn.
The story picks up six years later. Kade’s brother has died in prison and Laia has a child, his brother’s child. Kade has been a great uncle and an absent brother in law.
Laia has asked for his help as the organized crime family want something they think Laia has.
The best part of that story line was Kade’s friends coming in with their K-9s and helping out. I need to know if Jamie and Jax are okay. Please let them be the next story. :) Also the book cover was gorgeous. Even if I wasn’t already a Tee O’fallon fan I would have wanted to read the book because of the cover. Tee writes police procedural like a professional, because she is one.
This is a well written story. Personally I just could not like Laia. I felt like she was always complaining and just not a character I could root for.
Sexual content – 2
Violence – people are out to get what they want no matter what, kidnapping,
Drinking – minor

This newest books from Tee O'Fallon is a great mix of suspense and romance. There's danger, drama, and mystery, but it doesn't overtake the romance plot.
Kade was attracted to Laia from the first time they met. It was easy to see the connection for me between them, but things get complicated very quickly when Kade finds out she's engaged to his brother.
From the beginning I was curious how Kade and Laia would be able to work through their past and the present danger they are in and the story did not disappoint. The book is fast-paced, entertaining, and hard to put down!
The story begins with a fateful "trapped-in-an-elavator" scene where Kade Sampson happens to meet a woman named Laia who really grabs his heart. Only her then finds out she is his brother's fiance. Whoa. That puts the breaks on that relationship but when Kade's brother is killed in prison, and Laia needs help, he must cross the forbidden bro-code zone and spend time with the woman he really wants.
The Cartel part of this story is standard organized crime stuff -- they want something they think Laia has, and she is in danger. Kade is ready to step in with assistance from his other agent friends and K-9's.
What I love most about this series are the K-9's. Kade's K-9 partner Smoke is just fun to read about as are the rest of the K-9's and there are plenty of Kade's friends in this story, which absolutely made this an entertaining reading experience for this reader. Love the dogs!
As for Kade and Laia's story, it's standard romance and there's not many surprises, although Kade does really put himself out there. There's good action in the second half and an interesting cast of supporting characters. I'm hoping Jamie gets a story here too, he was an interesting and very secretive character.
So overall, an entertaining reading experience.
The story of Kade and Laia. They had a connection fleetingly but she was marrying his brother. They haven't spoken for years, but now she needs his help.
Great read, I liked how it was told from both points of view. Fast paced with lots of action.
