Peter O’Keefe, private detective, continues to recover from a car bombing that nearly cost him his life. As it is the left side of his body is healing but the skin grafts taken from other parts of his body left itching spots. There is some concern about who did the bombing but maybe the mob or someone else...he is not sure and neither are the cops.

This uncertainty has caused him angst but maybe more importantly has limited his time with Annie, his daughter, who is living with his former wife and who will not let the daughter visit without extra security. While this is probably understandable it still creates a strong desire to know once and for all who did the bombing.

Consumed with the desire to solve the mystery, Peter gets involved in several schemes and some of them could cost him his life. He is gifted with a near retirement, German shepherd police dog--both as companion and extra security.

The book moves as several points laboriously with people who might want him dead plotting that outcome. Others want to help and also receive his help. A criminal group called The Outfit is involved with him in what might be called a “Faustian bargain.” This complex cast is, at times, a bit ponderous. However, the conclusion is well done and all the characters are sorted out.

Readers will enjoy the story line and the character development...O'Keefe is a good guy who just had a bad stroke of luck and discovering how he comes out makes the tedious sections worth it.

Peter O'Keefe is a private detective recovering from a car bomb that left him badly burned. He and his wife are divorcing and she only lets him see his teenage daughter on limited, highly-supervised situations, believing he is still being targeted and anyone around him will be in danger also. The police believe the culprit is dead so it is up to Daniel to find out who is after them to put and end to the nightmare and keep him and those around him safe. This is action-packed and can be read as a stand alone without having read the first two novels in the series.

Peter O'Keefe is back, in the 3rd in the series of books. Due to an attempt on his life, when someone planted a bomb in his car that came very close to killing him, but did leave him with severe burns on the left side of his body, he can rarely see his teenage daughter, who comes with her own added drama and anger over wanting her parents to get back together!

Peter feels that he knows who tried to kill him, but the police have their own idea of who it was, and since that guy is dead, they don't feel he's in danger from the Mafia (also known as the outfit). There are enough hints, and clues about who has done what, including someone that has been leaking information to those who may want him dead.

With all the drama, twists and turns this book held my attention throughout. The characters on all sides, both good and bad, are well defined and you get a sense of who they are and what they will do to get what they want. I haven't read the first 2 books in the series from Author Dan Flanigan, but they are now on my list of must reads, just to fill in the back story! I look forward to those 2 and also to the next in the series!
