There are great things about this... but there are some negatives as well. It was way too long, for starters. There was a lot of unnecessary filler in this book and a ton of repetition. One would think with that many pages, there would be fully developed characters. Not Naomi. She's helpless and loves caffeine. What kind of self-respecting woman would let a grown man throw her over his shoulder - while she's wearing a short skirt and flashes an entire bar? And if that does happen, she doesn't immediately tell him where to go?
Not our Naomi. She is a doormat and yet everyone is seemingly in love with her. Knox treats her terribly, is rude and so full of issues that he should be spending time with a therapist, not a doormat. Yet, he falls for her immediately (why? still unclear).
I loved the character of Waylay and definitely want a book on her.
I really struggled getting into it, which kind of shocked me, but that being said, once I did get into it, I was invested and interested in the outcome and the story. I did like the cast of characters.
This was a fun read, but there were a few scenes/dialogue choices that were not my favourite. However, in a romance I am not bothered much by these aspects. I still really enjoyed reading this! I will definitely be reading the sequels.
I am obsessed with this book! Can I just pack up and move to Knockemout?! I held off on reading this book for a while because of all the hype but then my book club picked the second book in the series for their March read so obviously I had to read this one first. 😂 This is a small-town romance with a grumpy hero who meets a sunshine damsel in distress.
I loved the writing style. I loved the plot and storyline. The characters are absolute perfection. Knox and Naomi are perfect together. The spicy scenes were swoon-worthy.
At first, I was really unsure of this book, Knockemout sounded like a scary place with bikers and people constantly fighting and throwing punches. But this book completely drew me in and I fell in love with the entire town and I came to love these characters and their personalities. I’m a sucker for a good found family novel! This book is legit everything I never knew I needed and is unlike anything I have read before.
All right this book lived up to the hype. I adored this book. Normally I don't like such a gruff and bossy male character but I think Lucy Score did this very well. I loved the small town vibe. It was a funny book too but also heart warming. It was kind of the perfect book I needed for the perfect time I was reading it.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This novel had me hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed it so much and I can’t wait for book two. Knox and Naomi could not be more different. But you know what they say, opposite’s attract, and that could not be more true for these two. Naomi leaves her fiancé at the alter to help her twin sister in need. When she arrives at the town of Knockemout, she’s met by two brooding brothers. They all join forces to protect Naomi’s niece and find her outlaw sister. Knox has never been one for drama and relationships aren’t his thing, but resisting Naomi might just do this bachelor in for good…
I was instantly hooked when I started reading this book. Naomi comes to Knockemout to help her twin sister, Tina, after leaving her fiancee at the altar. When she gets to this small town, she soon begins to realize the chaos her sister has caused. Knox Morgan shows up to throw her out of town - mistaking her for her sister. This book played out like a movie in my head. I could see the characters and watch what was going on as I read. I definitely will be an author I will be reading more of!
I put off reading this book because it’s definitely a commitment – but wow did it just fly by!
I LOVED this book. It was one of those stories where nothing can really go right for the character who is easy to fall in love with, since Naomi just kept getting knocked down again and again – especially by her evil twin sister (and I don’t say that lightly… Tina is AWFUL).
Enter Knox… the literal epitome of grumpy, overprotective, alpha male. But also a bit of a cinnamon role hero once he starts to shed his layers!
When Naomi gets a call from her sister that she's in trouble, the last thing she expects is to become the guardian for a preteen in a middle-of-nowhere town where everyone knows everyone and everyone already hates her because she shares a face with her sister.
Despite how many people have read, raved, and recommended this book, I went into it blind – and I’m so glad I did. It lived up to the hype and I truly loved reading it. I couldn’t put it down and I’m SO glad I can go pick up the next book in the series immediately 😍
Tropes:
- Runaway bride
- Good twin/evil twin
- Rich alpha male, overprotective
- Grumpy/sunshine
- Found family
- Fake dating
- Forced proximity
- Enemies to lovers
- Small town romance
- Opposite’s attract
(Seriously, it has nearly everythinggggg. I cannot recommend this enough 😍)
This book was too long! I do not mind a long book when the story is driving forward and it is necessary. This book was too long for the story that it told. I found much of the dialogue cheesy and unrealistic. The characters seemed more like caricatures rather than real people. This book seemed highly hyped but did not live up to that hype for me.
Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score is a wonderful read! Mr Grumpy meets a ray of sunshine! This book is laugh out loud funny! If you like a good romance in a small town setting where everyone knows everyone's business this is a perfect fit for you! Happy Reading!
Thanks for the opportunity to review this novel.
I'm sure it's been popular even if there are a plethora of tropes to this story. I didn't particularly enjoy the alpha male attitude of the male protagonist Knox, even with the overlay of it stemming from trauma. Naomi was okay if unbelievably naive for a character of her age. I was troubled by the lack of therapeutic care for an abandoned child, and the pretty unrealistic writing about that child given her life experience. Having worked in child welfare and having adopted children from the system of care, I can absolutely say that just having a loving aunt and grandparents show up in your life will not be enough to overcome the years of abuse and neglect endured while living with Naomi's twin sister Tina. Anway, will look at book 2 to see if I'm more inclined to recommend it to my followers.
“You make broken things whole again. Me. You made me whole. And every time you smile at me, I feel like I hit the lottery again.”
Synopsis: Bad-boy, bearded barber Knox prefers to live his life the same way he takes his coffee: Alone. Knox doesn’t allow drama, even when it is in the form of a stranded runaway bride, Naomi. Not only was Naomi running from her wedding, she was coming to Knockemout, Virginia, to save her estranged twin Tina. But the town hates Tina and it turns out Tina hasn’t changed at all. Tina steals Naomi’s car and all her cash, not only that Tina leaves her with an unexpected surpriser. A niece Naomi never knew she had. She is now stuck in a town with no money, no car, no job, no plan, and no home with an 11-year-old niece to take care of. Knox doesn’t do high maintenance or complicated women, especially not romantically. But Naomi’s life exploded right in front of him, and he helps her get out of a jam. As soon as she stops getting into trouble he can go back to how his life was and leave her alone. At least that was the plan…
Thoughts:
Small town and grumpy sunshine? Yes, Yes! I love a good small town romance and grumpy sunshine trope, and this book delivered. I was invested right from the start and wish I picked up this book sooner! Naomi coming into town a hot mess with daisies in her hair and getting mistaken for her twin by grumpy Knox. Naomi was amazing, never giving up and pushing through all the rough challenges life threw at her. She was so sweet, strong, selfless, and it was impossible to not like her. Knox was super hot, grumpy, tattooed, and protective. There was a few times I was frustrated with him, but I understood his reasoning. I just wanted to shake him and tell him that loves worth the risk. Knox and Naomi were made for each other. Their connection developed overtime and wasn’t rushed. Their banter was fantastic, I loved the back and forth between them. The push and pull till they finally gave in, the spice was *chefs kiss*. Not only did I love Naomi and Knox, but the side characters too! I am excited to continue this series and read Nash’s story! This is a must read for anyone that loves grumpy sunshine and small town romance!

Five stars! Absolutely loved it! Romance with the best grumpy/sunshine troupe. Perfect recommendation for fans of Colleen Hoover and K.A. Tucker!
This one was my first ever Lucy book and let me tell you I absolutely loved it, and I CANNOT wait for the sequel!! I LOVE long books and this one was one of those 600 pages, don't mind if I do! I had such a good time reading this story. It was the perfect mix of fun, sweet, emotional, and just a bit suspenseful.
Naomi and Knox have an interesting meeting. When Naomi rolls into town with daisies in her hair, she doesn’t expect the welcome she gets. See, her twin sister who is basically a menace to the town, asks for her help. When Naomi shows, she is, of course, mistaken for the twin. That lasts for a bit but ultimately, she carves her own place out in town, along with her niece who she’s taking care of. Naomi was fantastic and warmed up to everyone fast, aside from Knox. I loved their banter and even when they were back and forth you could tell they both had it bad for one another. I loved seeing them fall for one another. Knox was fantastic as well. The story was different, but it gave me the same kind of feelings, as well as having epic secondary characters. I highly recommend this one and really hope Score gives us some more books, specifically Nash’s!
WHEN A POPULAR BOOK ACTUALLY LIVES UP TO THE HYPE. 4.5 STARS THIS IS THAT BOOK!
This has been a really great title to circulate and a good sub for readers of Colleen Hoover. A solid purchase for most libraries.
I LOVE a good Grumpy/sunshine! Knox was perfectly growly and grumpy. I actually loved Naomi's niece, sometimes I find kids in romance can be hit or miss and she was cute and added to the story. I do wish Tina was a little less "evil" but otherwise I really loved the story, I did not expect it to end with a kidnapping **Sorry spoiler!!** so this book kept you on your toes.
This book has been all over all the sites: Booktok, Bookstagram, Facebook, all of the places! I am always cautious about hyped up books, but this one was was amazing and I'm still thinking about it! This is an endearing, captivating, and passionate story about two people that refuse to fall for one another but ultimately can't resist. So many good tropes in this book! Grumpy/ sunshine, small-town romance, and a little bit of enemies to lovers. If you're looking for a good romance book about a grumpy yet charming guy that will drop anything to protect or help the main character, Nayomi, then please do yourself a favor and read this book! Their love for dogs made me love this book even more
Ahhh it took me wayyyy too long to finally read this book, and I’m so glad I did because I absolutely loved it!
Hmmm. I'm conflicted on my feelings about "Things We Never Got Over." Lucy Score's writing is incredibly readable and pulls me forward so easily. But...her characters here feel like caricatures. I did enjoy the portrayal of Naomi's niece and the supportive friendships featured throughout.
Now for the bad bit: Knox was terrible and really did not improve or grow. I was especially frustrated by his dismissal of Naomi's feelings. Doesn't want her to cry. Doesn't leave her alone when she asks to be. Just doesn't seem to care how she feels in general. Ew.
Now the story I would really love to read? Sloane and Lucy!

I liked this book more than some of her other novels. I am hoping there is a more instore for these characters.
