Hidden in the Pines: A Lew Ferris novel. A gripping, hard to put down novel about murder and mystery in the North Woods/Loon Lake, Wisconsin. Several strong female characters are portrayed in this novel, with a strong supporting male cast. I enjoyed the friendship of the main cast, and felt like I was right there in Loon Lake. Can't wait for the next one!
This i wpuld say is an average read. Nothing stands out i read book one so i might as finish the series but its just okay read to past the time nothing to really remember
Held my interest from start to finish. This was my first book by this author. I’ll definitely be reading more of her books!
It has been a long time since I’ve stayed up well after bedtime to devour a book but I did just that with Hidden in the Pines. As a Wisconsin native I was immediately intrigued by the description and even more excited to find a local library had several of the Loon Lake mysteries. I will absolutely be reading more Lew Ferris books!
This was entertaining and very smart. It had all the things I love in books: strong characters, twists and turns, and the setting was just perfect. I'll happily keep reading from this series. I hadn't yet read the first book in the series, but thankfully I wasn't confused regarding this story at all.
“ a gripping adventure of a 50+ year old mystery"
Blurb: More than 50 years later Indian returns to her home-town to uncover the mystery behind her sister's death. And in order to do so she gets a job with the sheriff's office. Will she be able to finally Find the peace that she has been looking for all her life?
Thoughts: The story has a great plot. A woman trying to figure out what happened to her sister and why was it never arranged. I loved how as the story progressed, newer sub-plots were introduced but the story never felt off track.
It was an adventurous mystery ride that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I could totally see what was coming and who the bad man was, but I still enjoyed the ride all the same.
The women in this story are truly inspiring.
This second book in the Lew Ferris series is a quick and delightful read. Sheriff Ferris is growing into her new position and learning the power of politics in local law enforcement. When she learns that one of the police chiefs within her county has willfully looked the other way in a murder case, she uses her authority to reopen the investigation. Meanwhile, Lew's new employee is trying to discover what really happened to her sister decades ago, believing that her death was not an accident. The resolution of both cases is an interesting twist.
This police mystery had me hooked from page one. Sheriff Lew Ferris is battling sexism in the Northwoods of Wisconsin while staying sane with her sport of flyfishing. The characters were all well-developed and the plot with intersecting people and cases made this book hard to put down until the end. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and the opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed Wolf Hollow book one. When I seen book two was available I had to read it!
Hidden in the Pines by Victoria Houston is book two in the Lew Ferris Series.
And its a wonderful, exciting mystery series.
It was so good being back in the company of Sheriff Ferris.
Being back in Wisconsin was a joy.
Book two was just as great as book one IMO.
A fantastic murder mystery story. With a storyline that grabbed my attention in chapter one and never wavered.
The characters are extremely realistic and very well executed.
Gripped me so hard that I simply couldn't put my Kindle down!
A great story, with lots of twists, fantastic writing and a story that is written extremely well!
Want to catch a killer? Then I'd highly recommend grabbing this book and follow along with some great characters!
I hope to see a book three in my future.

Wow. I know the woods of Northern Wisconsin, I could picture it quite well as I was read. a fast paced thriller full of suspense and intrigue.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. The characters are intriguing...the mystery is not easily discerned although there are numerous hints...the setting is fun, and I hope there are more books by this author with these characters. The story reads almost like true crime...the characters come alive on the pages and will be remembered. This is a talented and gifted author who weaves a story that is difficult to put down. Enjoy...enjoy...hoping for more of the same.

How can this be an unbiased review when the descriptions of the Northwoods of Wisconsin are so clear and reminiscent of the places I once knew well?
The imagery is right on target, the characters are memorable, the rural law enforcement well done, and the interdepartmental procedures clear. The plot is well developed right down to minutiae, and it is filled with fishing lore as well! I loved it and got a couple of the other books in a related series sent to my sister who still lives near there (and is a fishing addict).
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, and a few twists and turns! I will recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading but it was just a decent read for me! Worth reading but just ok! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
