A slow paced read with lots of twists and turns. This one is told from a past and present timeline and it works well. I did find the storyline a little to unpredictable and certain aspects unbelievable. it was an ok read.
A good read, but I found myself a little disappointed with the ending.
Great story that keeps you wanting to read more. I just felt the ending was a bit meh.
The story is told over dual timelines. The characters are well developed and likeable. Wonderfully well written plot. It is very suspenseful.
What is right and what is wrong? Where do you draw the line when protecting someone you love? This book will have you considering the concepts of moral and legal right, while also railing against social injustice and gender based violence. I thought this was a gripping, clever book and thoroughly enjoyed the path it took to a satisfying ending.
My lovely daughter was just a whirlwind of drama. it covers a lot of potentially uncomfortable topics (substance abuse, child neglect/abuse, murder etc) but was masterfully told; and i absolutely adored Bolton’s writing - something about it just scratched an itch in my brain!! Follow the story as secrets unfold when a perfect mother and daughter aren’t as perfect as they seem….
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This book is written along a dual timeline of the current day and 14 years or so in the past. Annabel has a history which is slowly revealed, becoming Annie as she settles into a new and very different life. Current-day Annie is completely paranoid and I wondered how her daughter puts up with the constant reminders to behave safely (locking up etc.). The title and blurb leads us to think everything had been done to protect her daughter but I found much of the content to be totally unrealistic - where were the checks by health visitors and midwives when the baby was very young? How come Annabel's solicitor did not ensure a fairer sharing of assets in her divorce? Th story progressed far too slowly, was very predictable and not credible (despite some good sections detailing the fear felt when living in the environment of a place like The Manor), I definitely did not find it gripping or suspenseful.
Really enjoyed this book and was gripped throughout. I had a bit of an inkling of the secret before it was officially revealed but that didn;t spoil my enjoyment.
Annie is a single mother to thirteen year old Izzy, she is a protective mother who will do anything to keep her daughter safe.
Annie receives a text message threatening to tell Izzy the truth about the secret she is keeping, unless she gives them a huge amount of money and she is willing to do anything or she may lose her daughter.
A nail biting psychological thriller that I read in one sitting.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
This gives a gripping and thrilling storyline a whole new meaning1 A story line that captures the interest from the very first page and leaves you guessing through out.
Annie has done everything that she possibly can to keep her daughter safe but when someone from her past threatens that - how far will she go to protect everything that shes fought so hard for?
I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. Told in dual timeline of then and now this book had me hooked for the start and I struggled to put it down. I was really fascinated by Annie’s character of just how far she will go to protect her daughter. I loved how all the details came out through the story. I didn’t guess the twist at the end either which was so good, this was my first book by this author and I’d definitely read more.
Absolutely loved this book!
The writing style was really good and I look forward to reading any other books from this author in the future :)
Written in the past and present to give you the whole story and the twists and turns in-between.
A very easy to read thriller that left me wanting to keep turning the pages, to see what happened next.
A nail biting physcological thriller with non stop tension. I'll do anything to protect my daughter from danger. I was not expecting the big revelation.
I'm usually not a huge fan of the duel timelines but this one was done so well I couldn't get enough! The suspense, the plot twists.. I truly felt the emotions of the characters. Loved this one so much!
This one is told from a past and present timeline and it works well. It’s a bit of a slow burn to the point you feel not much is actually happening but I was interested to find out more about Annie and her past. Likeable and not so likeable characters. The twists and turns were interesting enough but I did find the storyline a little to unpredictable and certain aspects unbelievable. It’s not one that will stay with me.
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ Digital for the opportunity to read #MyLovelyDaughter
I enjoyed how this book flitted between the past and the present revealing two different stories about the same characters and this life. Although this story sounded intriguing and something I would enjoy unfortunately it fell short. It took a long time for me to get into the book, I wanted to learn about Annie and her secret identity but this was not revealed until after half way through the book. I found it predictable especially the ending that I could see coming but also felt like it was rushed especially the last few chapters which I would have enjoyed more if they had not been so rushed.
This story had my attention from the first page. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I really enjoyed the dual timelines.
Hmm. That was interesting. A rather complicated plot that weirdly spoke to me in such a way that I had never anticipated. I though it would be boring but I was proven wrong by the awesome writing and pacing. Good job!
Cheers to Netgalley for the copy!
This was ok, a good steady read. I liked how it switched from the past to present, it was a good balance and i liked the characters but the story did get far fetched towards the end
A gripping story with a few foreseeable twists. I enjoeyed reading the book but hoped for it to be a little more shocking.
