My Lovely Daughter by R.P. Bolton is a domestic thriller with an intriguing premise. No one else has written a decent summary of this book so far, so I will try my best. The story revolves around Annabel, now known as Annie, a single mother with a secret. Years ago, she arrived with nothing, not even her name, telling her new neighbors that her husband took everything in the divorce. But is that the truth? Now, Annie is living with her thirteen year-old daughter Izzy, and she's started to receive threatening messages. Someone is threatening to tell Izzy everything - including the secret that Annie's desperately hidden for years.
Here is a gripping excerpt from Chapter 1:
"What she actually wanted was to rewind to the minute before the message pinged. Or to hurl the mobile into the tangled undergrowth and pretend it didn’t exist. But what she did was jam the phone deep in her jeans pocket and steady her legs enough to walk.
...
Ask anyone and they would say she was Annie Smith. Mother of Isabel. Late forties. Resident of Uppermoss. Veterinary nurse. Excellent mother.
And she was Annie Smith.
She hadn’t been Annabel for years."
Overall, My Lovely Daughter is a domestic thriller that will appeal to fans of Kiersten Modglin and B.A. Paris. One highlight of this book is the interesting premise. I was caught into the plot of this book from the beginning. I wanted to know more about Annie's secret identity and about who is threatening her anonymous through Facebook. I did take off 1 star, because I found the story a bit predictable. I took off another star, because the ending was just unsatisfying. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, you can check out this book when it comes out in October!
A very easy to read thriller that left me wanting to keep turning the pages. Written in the present and past some of the book was predictable but this didn't spoil it and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
Ohhh this book had a great creepy element running throughout. It was always such a great physiological page turner of a thriller. Some edge of your seat moments and alot of twist and turns along the way.
A fabulous addictive thriller that kept me turning the pages through the night. Annie, her daughter, and a 14-year-old secret that threatens to destroy their perfect world. This was a well-crafted plot, very well written, and the only thing that disappointed me slightly was the ending which I felt was just one step too far! A great read though and can thoroughly recommend. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy.
My precious daughter. You have no idea how dangerous the world is. No idea of the horrors I’ve shielded you from. The things I’ve endured . . . our past. We’ve been happy. We’ve been hidden. We’ve been safe. But our perfect life is about to come crashing down. Because they’ve found me. And they’re about to reveal my darkest secret . . . to you. I’ll do anything to protect you, darling, because if you knew – I’d lose you forever. You can never discover what I’ve done . . . or what I’m willing to do to keep you safe. Well written book!!
A book full of unexpected twists and turns! The protagonist is a mother with a lot of secrets hidden in the past that she needs to stay hidden to protect her daughter. The book moves between the past and the present as it slowly reveals her secrets and her battle to keep them hidden.
I enjoyed the plot and the fact that the twists weren’t easily guessable. I did find the narrative a bit meandering and confused in places, however. I felt it could do with some polishing.
Overall a good read though.
Good solid read. Annie Smith will do anything to protect her daughter. When she gets an anonymous text on Mother's Day it starts a whole chain of catastrophic events. The sort of book that if you found it in the library of a hotel you'd take it by the pool. Well crafted. I think the ending was a bit "over-twist" and could have stopped a chapter earlier. Probably a good book club read- how far would you go?
3.5/5 stars
Well written, uterly gripping and well developed characters. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting.
Absolutely gripping! Was great from start to finish. I was disappointed when it ended and I had to choose another book.

A really gripping nail biting psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through I read in one sitting totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley and HQ
I just reviewed My Lovely Daughter by R.P. Bolton. #MyLovelyDaughter #NetGalley
This was a slow, slow burn I struggled with. It crawled to the point I lost interest and just didn't care what happened. Disappointed.
Overall a good read but took me a while to get into the storyline and it didn't have the suspense factor for me and I lost interest in it to be honest and I wasn't really bothered how it was going to end.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC but I don't think I will read more from this author.
How far will a mother go to protect her daughter? Pretty much all the way if Annie Smith is anything to go by!
This was a slow burner, but the pace did pick up about halfway through. Though a predictable plot line and ending, it was enjoyable, but the reader needs to suspend all beliefs, so many shouldn’t have, couldn’t have, wouldn’t have moments. The characters were very well written and the premise good. A quick, easy read.
Thank you NetGalley.
"My Lovely Daughter" is a good, suspenseful easy read. I did find it predictable and a little boring at times but in saying that it is very well written with a good solid story that's easy to read. It's a story about a woman who will do anything to protect her daughter from the truth. The ending couldn't have been written better, it all slotted into place.
Annie and her daughter love a quiet life together until someone from Annie's past re-enters threatening to reveal a nearly 15 year old secret.
This book started a bit slow, but I was glad I stuck with it. The pace picked up about a third in and I really enjoyed it.
The plot was somewhat predictable, but written in an enjoyable way. The timeline switches back and forth between past and present, and relationships between characters are revealed. I would recommend this book.

Really it was a gripping tale.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from HQ and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I didn’t put it down once I started reading. A novel full of suspense, twists, intrigue, unexpected turns in all the right places.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
Loved loved loved– I had to see how it would end. The characters were believable. Solid five star teller
This one was just a bit slow and fell a bit flat for me, honestly. It didn’t pick up until about halfway through the book.
I had really high hopes for this book but I struggled to get into it for quite a while. Its super slow to start off and is much more character driven than driven by events happening or unfolding. The book does pick up but i just couldn't get into it the way if have liked to. It was quite predictable as to what had happened back in the day although there were a few twists I didn't see coming towards the end. Its very heavily focused on who the characters are and their background which is awesome and builds a really clear picture of who these people are and an understanding of why they're doing what they're doing but I just prefer more things actually happening. If anything I'd say its less of a thriller and more of a drama about how far a mother will go for her child and from that perspective then it is a very well written and relatable book. As a thriller though..... its a let down
