Janie and her boyfriend Max have a baby together and decide to move away from Brooklyn for a bit to spend time as a new family in a quieter setting. Janie is having trouble adjusting to being a new mother. She goes to bed one night and Max says he’ll take care of the baby so she can get some rest. The next day Max is missing and is wanted by the police in connection to a murder.

As the days go by Janie is confused and doesn’t know what to believe. She goes out to try to find out what happened that night and finds out Max has secrets that she doesn’t know about.

There is a twist at the end of the story that I definitely didn’t see coming. I loved the way motherhood is portrayed in a realistic way and how Janie comes to feel about the baby by the end. This was a fast read that I really enjoyed and would recommend to everyone especially mothers who will understand Janie and her feelings.

Janie is a new mom and is filled with guilt and anxiety as mother hood is proving to be challenging. She is overwhelmed and in need of sleep. She feels worse as her partner Max seems to be flawlessly adjusting to fatherhood. When he tells her to get a good nights sleep and he will hold things down, she takes him up on it. The next morning she awakes to a screaming baby and no Max. As times ticks by with no return, the panic sets in.

This go downhill quick as a murder pops up, questions about Max's past arise, and Janie just does not know what to believe anymore. The police are on the trail looking for Max. Does Janie even know who she started a family with? Does she protect him?

This is a fast paced read and the author does a great job of keeping emotions on point.

Loved this book - so excited to see the reaction and feedback from friends and family once they can read it!
Great plot, intriguing characters and no clue what would happen next - this book had all the elements of a thriller I love. A new mom finds that her seemingly wonderful partner unexpectedly disappears and leaves her with her six-week-old baby. A post partum/anxious mom is left worrying when she learns about a local woman who is murdered that same night her partner disappears. Such a great page turner!

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group for the arc!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an electronic copy to review…this talented author has written a cannot put down book…the characters are likable…some not so much, but that goes with a murder mystery…family dynamics…new baby…new mom…in-laws…exes…secrets…murder and mayhem…intrigue…good friends…this book has it all…I was surprised at the ending…I usually can discern what will happen…not this time…totally did not guess…this author weaves a story from the first page to the last page that is different in the dynamics of the family unit…it is similar in the way the murder happens… and then she surprises us…I am eager to read more from this author…I did not like the language which could have been left out and not changed the book at all.

The title and synopsis of this book caught my eye and had me excited when I was selected for the opportunity to review this advanced copy. I was grabbed within the first few chapters but unfortunately towards the end I was trying to make it through. For me there were way too many important storylines that all felt like they were just crammed into one book and when the "twist" at the end was revealed I rolled my eyes. I did not connect with any of the characters and felt there was an obvious plot point that should have been addressed but never was. The book could have gone in a whole other direction and I would have felt redemption for the main character instead I just felt sad for her.

My first Konen novel and although I regret not knowing her sooner, I’m thrilled to know there are other books to catch up on. A domestic noir with a nasty murder at the center, a young couple starting a family, a woman struggling with motherhood in a realistic way, guilt and love meshing into a series of consequential decisions affecting the lives of two families. I enjoyed reading the progression of Janie’s protestations of the actions of her partner Max after a woman is murdered and he becomes a suspect. I didn’t guess the ending and although I was sometimes exasperated with Janie and her reasoning I had to admire her reasoning.

Nothing was as it seemed. A good domestic thriller. I struggled to get into it but there were a lot of shocking twists that pulled me in one by one.

I found this really hard to get into. Although the author is a good writer, the style just isn't for me and found myself losing focus several times throughout. This is another story of yet another husband and wife with many secrets between them. The story was overall a good one with quite a few surprises I wasn't expecting, it just wasn't exceptional to me. I will say that maybe it is just me and I need to take a break from this genre for a bit.

Wow! This was another gripping, adrenaline fueled, psychological thriller you devour in one sitting!
Here’s the summary of the plot:

Janine, taking a leave to climb the corporate ladders, her fast, vivid, social, big city life behind to move to the upstate to raise her baby girl with her musician boyfriend! She is not happy with the choices she’s made! She’s loving her boyfriend Max and she’s loving her baby but she misses the hell of her old life, her free, careless self! She cannot sleep! She has to be 24/7 mother but she’s struggling to adapt her new responsibilities, her new secluded life!

She also keeps a secret from her boyfriend. She gets alerted when she gets texts about one of her special client!

One night at her weakest moment, she blurts out to her boyfriend that she never wanted her baby! The same night, her boyfriend Max soothes her, sending her to sleep, promising he’ll take her of their baby girl when she sleeps off.

But when Janine wakes up from restless sleep, she realizes, Max is GONE! He vanished into thin air.

She calls Max’s family but Max’s father Carl is way too much relaxed and he thinks Max will come back after cooling off. Max’s best friend Lilian comes to Janine help but interestingly she doesn’t seem worried.

And police officers knock her door to ask Max’s whereabouts. He’s last seen at the bar where a young woman was murdered and her kid was kidnapped.

As Janine digs deeper, she realizes Max keeps so many dirty secrets to himself! Could he be the same reliable, caring, honest guy she wanted to raise kids with?

Overall: the mystery surprisingly unfolded. It was smart, fast pacing, intriguing reading!
Janine was flawed but still a great character you can root for and understand her predicaments.

I loved the execution and smart ending which made me 4.5 stars to 5 dirty secrets, motherhood, action packed stars!

Janie is a new mom and she isn't really getting the hang of it or feeling great about being a mom, so her partner Max agrees to feed the baby in the middle of the night so she can sleep, but Janie wakes up to a crying baby and a missing Max. When Max doesn't return, Janie contacts his family and friends who tell her that sometimes Max goes missing and she shouldn't worry about it. Then a detective contacts her because Max was seen at a bar where a woman was murdered and then Janie knows Max has been keeping secrets.

I love this kind of book where someone's partner goes missing and they find out nothing is as it had seemed. Overall this was a good book and I stayed engaged in it. I wanted to know what Max was hiding and I thought the ending was satisfying. My only complaint is that Janie was breastfeeding for like 75% of the book and I think it was mentioned on every third page. I started rolling my eyes over this excessive detail. Otherwise I liked it.

Janie is in need of a much needed break. She is having a hard time with being a new mother. Her baby isn't sleeping much. And to add more stress to her plate a secret from her past worms its way up to the surface and jeopardizes her new family.
Max, her partner offers to help Janie out and the baby's feeding for the night so she can hopefully get some rest and a good nights sleep, she doesn't hesitate and jumps at the opportunity. When she wakes up early around three a.m. her daughter is screaming and she is alone.... Max has up and disappeared!
Janie is now on the hunt for her husband. The more she searches the more she finds answers about the man she has loved. Then a woman is suddenly murdered and Max is their prime suspect. Janie has to face her husbands secrets and her own! But doing so won't be so easy to deal with!

I loved The Perfect Escape. So to have another chance to read a new Konen novel was an absolute joy!

You Should Have Told Me by Leah Konen is a fantastic new heart pounding thriller.
This story immediately grabbed my attention from my he first chapter and never wavered. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat it is full of twists and turns.
With all the WoW moments that blow your mind!
There were layers of deception and a ton of questions that played out perfectly in the story.
The characters were believable, excellent foreshadowing and really good pacing that kept the story flowing wonderfully.
Leah Konen has written yet again another marvelous tale.
