Delilah O’Leary is getting ready to open her new gourmet deep-dish pizzeria in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin when someone murders her Aunts caregiver. Her business closed and with nothing to do she and her employees decide to solve the murder. Good mystery.
3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
Delilah's about to open her own restaurant, but will a crime scene get in the way?
I really enjoyed this mystery with a dash of pizza. It was light and cozy, easy to read through in one sitting, and kept me interested from start to finish. I liked all the characters, I was excited there was Spanish characters, and I loved the cat. One thing I wasn't the biggest fan of is the references to current pop culture (it the Kardashians) but that's a thing I don't like in many books. The recipes with a helping of sass were fun too! I am looking forward to the next book in this series and will be checking out other works from this author!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
A cozy mystery wrapped in delicious pizza talk. Several suspects, a few unexpected twists and yummy pizza ideas.
Delilah is going to be busy enough with her new Pizza place. Add in a break-up, a very entitled cat, and a murder with her aunt as number 1 suspect and life will be in super overdrive! Love the food descriptions and the mystery. Thanks to NetGalley for the advance read.
Savory deep dish pizza, stuffed with gooey cheese, tangy tomato sauce, and steaming with your favorite ingredients (I'm thinking artichokes, mushrooms, sliced tomatoes, basil...) Add an icy cocktail made by a handsome bartender who knows just the right balance to give it a gentle kick. Set it all on a wrought iron table under a striped umbrella overlooking a crystal blue lake where people row past in little wooden boats, shouting and waving to people they know. Yes, it's the ideal mental vacation destination.
Now add a little murder, throw in some fishy local residents, a rascally cat, and a piping hot police detective. Check, check, and check! At this point it's redundant to say I really liked this book. But I'll say it anyway. The setting literally could not have been better. I get hungry just thinking about it! The characters were a lot of fun, each one at the bottom of a slump and climbing their way out together in what is quite possibly the best place to do that kind of climbing.
As far as cozies go, this book followed all the tropes we cozy fans know and love. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very much looking forward to book two.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
This book, this book makes you hungry. My lactose intolerant self was ordering so much pizza. My poor family. (Pray for them) Six Feet Deep Dish is an absolute delight for the start of a new series. It's heckin cute, gave me Midwest nice vibes and all the cozy tropes while still being a good time. I was mainlining mozzarella like it was no one's business. My only criticism is that some of the one offs seem outdated, like how Delilah didn't like her ex boyfriends man bun when that's generally an acceptable thing. It just felt out of place for a 30 something to care about, millenials love us a man bun generally speaking. Especially one's that are feeding cats cheese.
Who would I recommend this book to - mystery pizza lovers. Cuz yall, it has recipes and I love a recipe mystery.
Thank you St Martins and Netgalley for the ARC!
This was a delicious new cozy mystery.
This is the first slice in a new series and I look forward to the next one.
The characters were interesting and the whodunit was first rate.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Did someone say pizza?! This first book of a new series is a delightful mystery! If you know me, you’ll know I love pizza and this story definitely delivered it! My mouth was watering reading about all the delicious dishes! To make things even better, there are recipes at the end that you can try. How cool is that??
I found the characters charming and can’t wait to read more about them in the series. I usually have a knack for solving mysteries but this book had me stumped until the end! This made for an entertaining and engaging read. So refreshing in a mystery book! If you want a fun (and delicious) story check this out next month!
Thank you to the publisher for this enjoyable book and to the author for a great new series I’ll be looking forward to reading more of!
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Delilah is excited about open a new pizza place in Wisconsin. She is surprised when her fiance breaks up with her. When an individual is murdered and her aunt is the number one suspect, Delilah is scared. She decides to try to catch a killer herself. This was an enjoyable read
Six Feet Dish Pizza 🍕 is a delightful cozy mystery book and an I would highly recommend this new series to all cozy mystery readers. How could you miss with deep dish pizza, murder and a little bit of romance . I look forward to reading more cozy mystery books in this series and I think Mindy Quigley has a bright future ahead with this new series and I look forward to the next cozy mystery in this series. Bravo Mindy and thanks for including a great pizza recipe 🙋♀️🇨🇦🥰🍕❤️
I finished Mindy Quigley's Six Feet Deep Dish about 24 hours after I started it -- including sleep, rearranging my bedroom furniture, meals, playing ridiculous mobile games with my kid, and binge-watching all eight episodes of Paper Girls on Amazon Prime. It was a good start for a new cozy series, but it was easy to step away from. It has a lot of the typical cozy bits : main character who insists on getting involved with an investigation she is told to stay out of repeatedly; hot law enforcement; questionable ex-love interest; elderly relative with a spitfire attitude; flamboyant pet; super supportive friends. There really wasn't anything shocking or new. It was ... cozy. I'm thankful for the advanced copy to read and could see myself continuing with further installments of the series to see if anything exciting happens, but there are sooooo many cozy series out there now and this one didn't really stand out as anything really unique.

Six Feet Deep Dish by Mindy Quigley is the first book in a brand new series. I'll admit I was drawn to this because for years I managed a pizza restaurant, and like so many people, I really love pizza!
At first, I didn't really care for the main character, Delilah O'Leary. Her ability to get raving mad angry and lash at people within seconds of events that happened around her were too much over the top to be believable. On the other hand, her fiance, Sam Van Meter, while extremely into Zen and meditation, added a balancing element that honestly might have added to the series if he didn't have a tendency to run away when things with Delilah went off the rails. Perhaps the author could have used some of his calming influence to work things out and calm her down. I feel that is a major diasappointment to me.
All in all the mystery was good.
I really enjoyed reading this first book from Mindy Quigley. Six Feet Deep Dish is a well written cozy mystery, where the reader is pulled in from the first page. I don't feel that a recap of the book is due now, the synopsis does a good job. Delilah, Auntie Biz & the rest of the crew make for a quick read with "real" characters. The killer is revealed at the end, without a give-away before hand (always a good sign). I look forward to reading the next in the series. Thank you to NetGalley, St Martin's Press & Ms Quigley for the pre-read in exchange for an honest review.
It is always exciting to start a new cozy series and Six Feet Deep Dish is fun! I will admit it took me a little bit to really get into it. A classic pizza place formerly frequented by the mob. Since a murder occurs during the soft opening, very little of the first book takes place in restaurant. But the author does a good job of getting you interested in the murder and the descriptions of the pizza place really make you want to visit. I'm sure there will be more character development in the next book and I look forward to reading it. Good first in a new series!
I received this as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, if you're here for the food you found the right place! The imagery was spot on and I'm already researching local pizzerias to try to recreate the vibe from this book!
The murder investigation and the romance aspect were equally measured in this story and I liked it! If you need a cozy mystery that will inspire you to pull up grubhub, you found it.
This cozy (foodie) mystery takes place in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin. The restaurant was formally one frequented by the mod. Delilah (Chef) and her fiancé, Sam are getting ready for a soft opening of their new restaurant which serves up gourmet, Chicago style deep dish pizzas. Delilah and Sam, who is financially supporting Delilah's dream, is having a rough patch in their relationship and decide to part ways. Since the business is in Sam's name and he was responsible for the capital,Delilah is not only trying to figure out a way to keep the restaurant open, pay vendors and employees, etc., but now she has a murder to solve!
During the soft opening, her Aunt Biz is implicated in the murder of her caregiver, Jeremy. There are several suspects all present at the time of the murder and it's up to Detective Capone, a dependent of the mobster Al, and Delilah to gather up the evidence and bring the murderer to justice.
As satisfying as your favorite slice of pie! Six Feet Deep Dish is a delicious debut and a great addition to the culinary cozy menu. Quigley does a wonderful job with the plot and there are some hilarious one liners. I will definitely be recommending this read to cozy mystery fans. I only have one complaint— I don't like anchovies on my pizza. And by anchovies I mean the italicized Spanish! This might have been the publisher and not the chef (author), but I hope we will not see it in book two of the series. Daniel, the Puerto Rican bartender, is dishy. He doesn't need the italic garnish.
I received an ARC of, Six Feet Deep Dish, by Mindy Quigley. Delilah is not having an easy time of it, her fiancee dumped her, and left her with the cat, and she has a murder to solve.
I had so much fun reading this cozy mystery, and I'm happy it's the beginning of a series. The characters are snarky, and the location is excellent! The pizza makes my mouth water -- there are recipes at the end explained by some of my favorite characters. The play on old Chicago's gangster history is over the top! I hope that Dee gets together with Detective Capone.
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's for the ARC to read and review.
Dee O’Leary moved to the one place that was a constant for her and her sister, Geneva Bay Wisconsin. She and her fiancé, Sam, moved up with their cat, Butterball to live Dee’s dream of opening her own restaurant. The nigh of her soft opening, not only does her fiancé leave her, one of her guests is murdered at the event. With Auntie Biz left holding the smoking gun, it seems that Geneva Bay isn’t all that Dee remembered.
To save Aunt Biz from prison and her restaurant and life from ruin, Dee realizes she must solve the case to keep everything from crashing down around her. With a murderer on the loose and several suspects that are prime for the picking, Dee has to avoid Detective Capone from finding our she’s sleuthing, all while avoiding a killer.
What a great start to a new cozy series. I love the use of O’Leary and Capone as the main character and one of the supporting characters. The irony wasn’t wasted on me with them both being from Chicago and it’s just one of the little bits of humor that are sprinkled throughout the book. With a plus size cat, Butterball, who sheds like nothing anyone has ever seen, you’re going to fall in love with him too. Check out the recipes as the end…my hubby can’t wait for me to make him a deep dish pie after reading the recipes!
