Okay, WOW! The In-Laws is a family drama turned psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the end!

Chelsea and Henry are newlyweds. She’s going to meet his parents for the first time, which seems like it would be a red flag, but Chelsea is known to be a bit gullible. She wants to be loved and she tends to see the best in people.

Her in-laws, Martha and Arthur, are truly bizarre people. Off the grid living and living off the land is cool but they take it to a new extreme. After the long drive, they have to hike FOUR more hours to the cabin to meet his sour-faced mom and demented dad.

We know from the start that something strange is going on at this property because a finger is sticking out of the ground in the garden but we don’t know what or why. Why didn’t he tell her more about his family’s quirks and why is it getting harder and harder to leave?

This is actually one of the creepiest books I’ve read lately. There were twists that were really chilling to me and also parts that showed the triumph of the human spirit. This was a fun and fast read that I would definitely recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review this! Now available!

This book was like an accident – I didn’t want to read it, but I couldn’t stop! This was classified as a thriller, but really read like a horror book. If you liked Stephen King’s Misery, you would probably enjoy The In-Laws. It just gave me a creepy feeling that I couldn’t shake, and I think that was the author’s intention. Well played.

Thanks to NetGalley, Victory Editing and Hidden Gems Books for an advance reader’s copy for review.

I was hooked on this book from the start. While reading this book, I could not stop thinking what a good film this would be. Although I thought the ending would be predictable, I was completely caught by surprise when I realized it was nothing like I had thought it would be. I loved the twist at the end and I loved how the characters were written. This is the first James Caine book I have read and I would love to see what he comes up with next!

The In-Laws
by James Caine
She visited them for the weekend. Now they won't let her leave. What a wild, insane read. It was a great read...creepy enough to make me need to finish in half a day. A very different book, well written.

Warning for spoilers !

This was an enjoyable read , with a good twist towards the end , but there were certain aspects of the book that were a little rough around the edges

Firstly , the characters were generally well written and I particularly liked Arthur , especially after the reveal. However , there were a few moments where Chelsea’s self harm was made the focus , but it had absolutely no impact on the overall story. If the self harm element was taken out , the story would remain exactly the same. It felt a bit shoehorned in.

I liked the twist and even though it seems a bit obvious looking back , I genuinely did not see it coming ! I was fully convinced this was an overbearing mother storyline. The twist was also done in a way that felt quite natural to the story and was very well written

One thing that was jarring was Henry’s murder at the hands of Martha/Rachel. There definitely should have been another chapter from Martha’s point of view before this as she escaped her ties. Even if this did not explicitly state that she killed Henry until Chelsea found him later on , there was a big opportunity missed here for a final conversation between Martha and Henry. It felt a bit of a jump to go from “I love Henry the most” to then killing him , without that change on page.

All in all I did enjoy this book and I’d be eager to read more from this author to see what they come up with next

This was a quick and nice read. The first half of the book felt like some kind of light horror story cliché and I was waiting for a werewolf coming around the corner, but it was still entertaining enough for me to keep reading. The characters were interesting and the story was good. There was a nice message at the end and the predictable twist I was waiting for. Overall, it was a good read and I recommend it if you're looking for an easy to read and entertaining "thrillerish" book.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.

When Courtney and her new husband Henry settle for his parents house so she can meet them for the first time she is surprised at how far they have to go. Even though he said it was in the middle of nowhere, she didn’t expect it to actually be in the middle of nowhere! After parking in a lot and walking four hours through the woods she realizes he was telling the truth. When they arrive at his parents home she sees her happy his mom is to see him and how unhappy she is to meet Courtney. His dad on the other hand is so nice and funny and she really likes him but it isn’t long after meeting them that his mom‘s cold demeanor gets colder and things altogether just get weird! When they arrived Courtney‘s biggest worry is if they will like her or not, but before it’s over her biggest worry will how can she get away from her new “in-laws?“ this is one of those books that although they have minor plot holes it is so good you keep breathing because you want to know how it will end. This book is truly a pleasure read because it is so thrilling and OMG it is so crazy! I truly truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I was given this book by Ned Galli and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

Wow. What in the world!! I was unsure of how I felt as I was reading it and it took me a bit to figure out how the end was going to go. It definitely had a twist. Well more than one twist. One I suspected, the other I didn’t at all.
It was an easy and entertaining read even if it was a little out there.

With in-laws like these who needs enemies? I absolutely love this thriller. I spent most of the book trying to figure out exactly what was going on but in the best way possible. Amazing ending as well!

Dark, Domestic Noir…
A tangled web indeed in this dark, domestic noir with a poisonous sting in the tail. Exactly what has Chelsea signed up for - certainly not these in-laws which may just be everyone’s idea of hell - she has, however, agreed to spend what she hoped would be a nice, short stay with them along with her new husband. Living off grid, the in-laws have more than a few secrets and it becomes apparent right from the off that not all of these are going to be pleasant. Chelsea’s stay is soon to transcend into something she could never have foreseen. Twists and shocks aplenty in this chilling, menacing suspense.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well thought-out, and the premise was different. The story was fast paced and kept be interested.
Some parts seemed rushed, I wish there was a little more detail on some of the events.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book and would read more by this author.

Martha and Arthur Jameson are expecting a visit from their son Henry, and his new wife, Chelsea. Martha and Arthur live off the grid growing their own vegetables and trapping their own meat. They enjoy being independent. Arthur has leg problems and Martha is impatient with increasing medical problems.

Just before arriving, Henry and Chelsea stop for gas and snacks. Chelsea is surprised to see a board with so many posters of missing people.

Chelsea is doing her best to be nice and complimentary to her in-laws but is shocked to see some of the primitive ways in which her in-laws live. But it’s just for the weekend so she is trying to grin and bear it.

Before she knows what’s going on, Chelsea finds herself caught in a nightmare worse than she could ever have imagined. Will she be able to escape?

This is by far one of the most unusual plots I have ever read. The story is crazy scary and so compelling that I simply could not put it down until I read the last page. This author has an incredible imagination and I look forward to reading more by him. Wow!

Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

First off the editing is horrendous! I'm hoping it's just because this was a pre release copy but it made it very difficult to read and to follow who's pov we were looking at etc. Which is such a shame for the author because I did actually really like this book. It's a story king but we love that sometimes! It hooks you in from the start and there are a couple of wee twists and turns along the way. You get told the main premise straight from the off so the rest of the book is just the suspense building and that feeling about when things were going to kick off and how bad it'd get. There were a few things I didn't see coming which made the twisted tale even better and I really enjoy it. Its really short and simple and would have been really easy to read if it wasn't for the train wreck of the editing. This to me is the perfect wee fun beach read since it doesn't take too much brain power to follow along and keeps you intrigued enough to always need one more chapter. The characters aren't really that well developed but they have the basic outlines shining through and it's not a book that needs deep character analysis. It's more what these people are rather than who. I know it's got some bad review but I'd say that's more for the editing making it almost impossible to read, overall the story itsself was pretty decent
