This is the first time I'm being introduced to this Cozy Mystery Series and I can honestly say; you could read this as a stand-alone book but why miss out on the others? This story has attention grabbing details, excellently written characters, and a plotline that I was eating up so fast. I will definitely be checking out the other books!
Bookclubbed to Death is book 8 in the series. Our MC Samantha faces such a life altering issue after a literary critic is found bludgeoned to death in her bookstore. Will Sam go down as the critic's killer? Or will her and her family/friends be able to identify the true killer?
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. I needed to know if the real killer was going to be caught or not. Burns does an excellent job at making you fall in love with characters even if this is not the first book. I highly recommend this cozy mystery book.
When there is a damaging storm in North Shore, Michigan, book groups can no longer meet at the local library, so Samantha offers her book store as an alternative. Soon, an obnoxious woman comes in demanding that her book group meet there and that Sam provide them with refreshments. Turns out this woman, Delia, is an influential book critic, and she not only implies that she will pan Sam's newest book if her demands are not met, but also says she will sue Sam because her toy poodle is vicious and dangerous. When Delia winds up dead in the bookstore, Sam is the prime suspect, but Nana Jo and her friends from the retirement village, Jenna, Frank, and Sam herself learn some unsavory facts about Delia--apparently more than one person had the motivation to kill her. Interspersed throughout the book are snippets of Sam's novel about wealthy Brits in the 1930's. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
A great addition to the series with Samantha and the old lady sleuth team who solve the mystery yet again.
This is only my second VM Burns book in her Bookshop mystery series and clearly I am missing out. Samantha and her team of old lady sleuths were the absolute best. This was such a satisfying cozy mystery,. I wish that Hallmark would actually do these mysteries featuring POC characters.
When I think of cozy mysteries, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels, thrills and can satisfies just about every reader's heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day.
This short mystery was a quick read that left me wanting to dive further into the cozy mystery world. I loved the characters and plot and can't wait for the next installment in the series. My nana and I have always read cozy mysteries together, and the partnership in the novel between the protagonist and her nana was heartwarming!
After a massive storm rips through town and the library is damaged, Sam agrees to host some of the book clubs at her store. The Mystery Mavens is led by a noted reviewer and with Sam’s new book about to be published, she’s eager to please the demanding woman.
Sadly there is no pleasing this woman and she threatens to sue Sam after an incident with Snickers and Oreo. When Nana Jo finds the woman dead in the store, Sam and the girls have to figure out who killed the woman before the police, who believe Sam is the murderer, is arrested and sent away for a long time.
I adore M.V. Burns works and read all of her series. With this series, the story within a story as she writes her books that help her solve the mysteries she is working on in real life are always a great way of sifting through things. Nana Jo, the ladies, Snickers and Oreo are all highlights as well. When you can remember the names of the characters and wants to know what’s next for them, you know you have a series you’re going to read for a long, long time.
Bookclub bed to Death by V.M. Burns was a fantastic, who-done-it cozy mystery! I thought story was great and enjoyed the myst ride!! Such a cute book!
This has been an enjoyable series. Samantha owns a mystery bookstore, keeps ending up in the middle of murder investigations, but she's also a writer and there is a story-within-a-story each book. This entire book wasn't as good as the others have been. Nana Jo and her friends used to be so funny but they're not featured as much. The mini-story was hard to follow, with too many characters. I also don't love Sam's relationship with Frank. However, the mystery was complex enough to be interesting and the ending was satisfying. I will read more in this series. I'd recommend starting with the first book because it was very well developed and a real treat.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
When a literary critic is found bludgeoned to death in Samantha Washington’s bookstore, Sam quickly becomes the number one suspect – her book is about to be published and Delia Marshall had threatened to give her a bad review which would have ruined her writing career before it really got started. Sam has only a short period of time to clear her name but quickly discovers plenty of people had reason to want Delia dead. Can Sam find the right killer before time runs out?
“Bookclubbed to Death” is the delightful eighth book in V.M. Burns Mystery Bookshop cozy mystery series. This is a fun series – not only because of the characters and bookstore setting but because of the book-within-a-book that Sam is writing. It parallels events in the book but using a historical setting – kudos to author Burns because this could not have been easy to write. I enjoyed both mysteries in the book and had fun trying to solve both of them. There are plenty of suspects and a nice, tense ending in the modern day mystery that had me reading as fast as I could to see what would happen next! In the end, I was sorry when my visit to Sam and friends was over.
“Bookclubbed to Death” is a nicely done cozy mystery.
Samantha Washington is proprietor of a murder book store. After a tornado hits town and floods the library, Sam offers to hold a book club meeting at her store's meeting room. But when the head of the Murder Mavens sweeps in, demanding lunch be served and Sam's two poodles to be banned, Sam has second thought. But Delia Marshall is a very influential book reviewer and Sam has a book that will soon be launched and she feels that giving the meeting everything that Delia asks for can't hurt. Delia has also ordered a very large, heavy and expensive book, the complete works of Agatha Christie. A few days after the meeting, Delia is found dead in the store with the book on her head, beaten to death. The police assume that Sam is the killer and she and her circle of friends have to work hard to find the evidence against the real killer.
I enjoyed this book, eighth in the series. The two poodles were cute and I had to laugh when Delia was so audacious with her demands. What I didn't care for was the sections of the book that Sam is writing, her characters all have "Lady" and "Lord" in front of their names, which makes reading it tedious. But over all I liked the story. Many thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy.
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of BOOKCLUBBED TO DEATH (Book 8 of the Mystery Bookshop mysteries), by V.M. Burns, in exchange for an honest review. A severe storm with tornadic activity brings more than building damage into Samantha Washington's life. Sam's offer to aid the flooded library makes her responsible for hosting a bookclub ruled by the horrible Delia Marshall. Sam then ends up being the prime suspect in the woman's murder, This mean Sam, Nana Jo, and all of the gang are, once again, on the case.

This series is quickly becoming my favorite.
I love Sam and Nana Jo, as well as the other ladies in the story.
When a nasty book reviewer becomes the victim of murder, Sam worries that her business could suffer, so she does everything she can to make sure that doesn't happen.
This story is just fun to read, the characters are entertaining and it is easy to find yourself wrapped up in the investigation.
I'm happy to recommend this book to all cozy mystery fans.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me read an advanced copy of this book.

Overall this was a fun mystery, well developed characters and story line.
Sam offers her bookstore as a new venue for the Mystery Mavens Book Club. Unfortunately, she immediately runs afoul of the club leader, Delia Marshall, a book reviewer who can make or break careers—something Sam can ill afford with her debut historical mystery soon to be published. But the next morning, Sam opens her shop to find the unpleasant woman dead on the floor, bashed with a heavy—apparently lethal—tome: the Complete Works of Agatha Christie.

Bookclubbed to Death is a great quick cozy read! This book is the 8th in the series, my first, and I will go back and read more. Samantha Washington hosts the Mystery Mavens Book Club in her book store. When she discovers the body of the clubs leader in her store she immediately becomes a suspect, everyone knew they did not get along at all. Now she must work to find the killer and clear her name. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and felt that this one did not disappoint. There was enough action and suspects to keep you guessing til the end. I like the characters in the book and how they interact with each other. They keep the book interesting for the reader. I am looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoy this series. This entry is terrific. Agatha Christie as a murder weapon? Yes! Well done. Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read.
I absolutely love a great cozy mystery and this one hit the nail on the head. Another wonderful addition to the genre.
I enjoyed this book although I thought the 2nd novel inside the story is a distraction. The characters are enjoyable. #BookclubbedtoDeath #NetGalley
