A fantastic debut thriller!

It’s Jay's 40th birthday, and wife Molly wants to do something special for the occasion. Well…what better way to celebrate than to throw a small, intimate party at home with their closest friends. How thoughtful! Except the birthday boy will not survive the night!

Rita is a seasoned homicide detective partnered with young up and coming detective. She loves teaching, so for her it’s a perfect pairing. While investigating Jay’s death they quickly realize there’s more to this mystery and now everyone is a potential suspect!

Told from the perspectives of both Rita and Molly. Both with distinct voices, I never had any trouble differentiating between the characters.
I was quite fond of Rita’s character and enjoyed getting a peak into her personal life away from the job.

This book held me right from the start, I was immediately drawn into this storyline. The writing is smooth and flows easily. And with short chapters I breezed through this book. Although There’s a playlist of characters in this book they were easy to tell apart because of this author’s great writing ability, giving life to each one of them.

Putting on my own detective cap, I was pointing my little sleuth finger at every single character. Well…with the exception of eleven year old Alice.🤣 Otherwise, I had everyone in my sights at one point!🕵🏻‍♀️

I have high hopes this is the beginning of a series. I believe Rita could definitely hold her own as the main character of an ongoing series!🤞

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for the copy of All The Dark Places. What a great read! The writing drew me in from the first page and kept me entranced until the end. I liked the dual timelines and the dual stories. I do think there was an opportunity for multiple timelines so the characters wouldn’t have to tell us about their childhoods, but we could have seen them instead. Regardless, this was a solid book!

Twisty domestic thriller, count me in! Things I loved about this book ,,, Duel perspective POV, short chapters, good character development, and a lot of suspense. I found this book twisty and creatively written. Definitely recommend.

Molly wakes the morning after her husband's fortieth birthday party to find him murdered in his home office, his throat slit. After suffering through traumatizing events when she was a child, the murder of her husband starts to bring back the memories and paranoia she spent her life trying to be free of. The lead detective on the case, Rita, is getting frustrated with the pace of the investigation. She suspects someone at the party may be involved and when one clue turns to another, she fears this case may just be a lot bigger than it seems.

Why did I wait so long to read this? It was one of those books that's been on my shelf for awhile and I kept hesitating to read it and of course as usual, it was a great book. It took me about a chapter to get into and once I did, it just kept getting better and better. Told from dual POV'S, the suspense and mystery kept increasing by the page. This was definitely not what I thought it would be and I love when that happens in a book. The reveal threw me even though I was honestly clueless who it was in the first place. This author succeeded in creating mystery, suspense and surprise in every way imaginable. Four Stars.

This mystery was captivating. I liked Molly’s character and her strength in dealing with everything..the flashbacks were just enough to unfold the background slowly. It wasn’t easy to figure out the ending. I was interested til the end and that’s saying a lot for me. I really enjoyed this one.

Molly and Jay Bradley have a small party to celebrate Jay's 40th birthday with three other couples. The next morning Jay is discovered murdered in his study. Veteran detective Rita Myers investigates and is convinced one of the party goers is responsible. The story is told from the POV's of Molly and Rita in short chapters that had me reading "just one more". I wanted to find out who was responsible for the murder, but also the mystery of Molly's secret past and Jay's suspicious connection to the disappearance of a woman. Hard to believe this was written by a debut author, it is well-plotted and well-written, and a crackling good story.

All the Dark Places is an amazing debut novel by Terri Parlato! I love the short chapters, amazing character development, multi-POV from Detective Rita and Molly. If you love murder- mysteries, then you'll love this!

Multiple perspective writing always confuses me a little at the beginning but this one wasn't bad at all. I loved the story and I felt like I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen.

This is the perfect thriller. It’s the good-kind-of -creepy, & stay up past your bedtime to keep reading, kinda book. It had me hooked right from the beginning, all the way to the last page.

The blurb says this is for fans of Megan Miranda and Shari Lapena so I knew I had to read it. I’d also say if you like Ruth Ware or Alice Feeney, you’d enjoy this too. And this is a debut novel?! 🤯🤯 Pick this one up in December, you won’t be disappointed.

Each chapter alternates between Molly, the victim's wife, and Rita, the detective in All the Dark Places by Terri Parlato. I liked both characters. I was a little iffy on the reason for the murder, but the story's pace was page-turning, and it did come together in the end.

I would check out more books by this author. This was a satisfying read and story. I would rate All the Dark Places a 4 out of 5.

And this debut novel has managed to flawlessly combine them?? A must read.

They hook you quickly, with the murder of Jay taking place within the first few pages and things continue to spiral out of control from there! I love that this book contains quite an extensive cast of characters, who on the surface appear to be relatively normal, well-off 30 somethings - but as the story continues we see that this couldn’t be farther from the truth and that they all have all have their own shady stories, secrets and something to hide. I found myself unable to trust ANY of them, which kept me super invested.

I also thoroughly enjoyed how developed the sub-plots were and how they pieced together so perfectly to expose the truths of this creepy/complicated story!

I cannot wait to read more from this author!

I absolutely loved this debut and can’t wait to read more by this author. The story develops from Jay’s murder to more terrible crimes and lies. I was hooked on this book because of the writing style and how the author artfully spun so many subplots into the story. This is a book you need to read if you love thrillers/suspense.

Well this was a fun debut novel! A lot happening in this book. Basically it’s a big whodunnit. Molly is married to Jay and he is turning 40. After his small birthday party, Jay is murdered and the suspects seem to be his small circle of friends or could it be someone who knows about Molly’s secret past? I didn’t see the ending coming but it wasn’t the most surprising ending! I did enjoy it though!

My Thoughts: The story is narrated by Molly, grief stricken wife, and Rita, the lead detective trying to solve the homicide, in a dual perspective POV. I really like when the detective and the victim (or loved one of the victim) is narrating because you get a full circle of what happened and what both sides are thinking. The chapters are short, which I love. The story does start as a slow burn and heats up probably about half way through. The investigation was a little slow for me, I would like to have gotten through it a little quicker. The characters were well developed, emotional, they had depth to them, and written creatively. The author’s writing style was complex, suspenseful, twisty, and was amazing for a debut author. The story starts with character building, and sometimes it was a little confusing, but as the story progressed, I was able to identify the characters with no problem; the plot is built in twisty layers, and the ending was brilliant. This was a good read that I recommend picking up if you like a slow burn turned into a page turner thriller.

All the Dark Places is told from the viewpoints of Molly and Rita, the detective working Jay's murder. The chapters are very short (a positive for me) and I felt like the pace was quick enough to keep me interested. I liked the character of Rita-the fact that she was 60 years old was a nice change from the typical rookie detective so often encountered in the thriller genre. I would have liked more glimpses into Rita's life and her work experiences. While I liked Rita, the police seemed clueless and ineffective- while there were descriptions of the actual investigation, it seemed like they relied more on hunches (and pastries) than anything else. The investigation seemed to go nowhere for most of the book.
I wasn't blown away by any of the twists and thought the ending was a little unrealistic and also predictable. I was a touch disappointed in the ending, but overall I enjoyed this book.

# Second of all, this book was so wild. It’s a group of friends with a murder in the middle of it all. What more can you ask for? Oh a secret past? Sure! There’s a lot of messy drama with the group of friends, which always keeps my attention and the pages turning. I highly recommend this one!

Dark thriller that had you hooked from the off. The book was very well written. Great plot. Very exciting. Fast paced to get your heart racing. Loved this book. The picture on the cover was particularly spooky. It all adds to the height of thrill and excitement

This is a domestic thriller with the huge twist.
Readers that enjoy many twists and turn throughout will find this a great read.
Terri Parlato has done a great job for a debut novel and is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

This was a fairly quick read with short chapters. I like the multiple POVs between Molly and Detective Rita, who is tasked with finding out who murdered Molly's husband Jay on the night of his 40th birthday. I felt it was a good mystery until the ending. It just didn't seem plausible.

This book was a thrill ride ! One of my favorite books so far this year. When I started this book I was captivated and did not want to put it down! Molly's husband is killed after a party for his birthday but why? He had no enemies so what was he hiding. What does his murder have to do with Molly's past? So many questions !!You will want to read to find out. Highly recommend if your looking for a different storyline and want a fast thrilling read! Look forward to reading this authors next book.
