My first book by this author and it’s not going to be th least! Wow wow wow! I don’t want to be in any dark places after that book! Terri Parlato can sure wrap a reader into a story and not let you go! Couldn’t put this down at all! You will want to read it with the lights on!

I recently was given the opportunity by Kensington Publishing Corporation, via NetGalley, to read the debut thriller from Terri Parlato, All the Dark Places. I have to say, this debut novel is amazing.

First, we have our characters. They’re well thought out, well planned, and very well written. Do we get all of the info about each of our characters right away? No. But that actually adds to the intrigue of the book. Something bad happened to Molly as a child. While it’ll take a while for you to find out what that is, and you’ll want to know, it doesn’t detract from the story to find out when you do. No matter what it is, every character with a backstory you need to know will have that backstory told, when the time is right.

This book doesn’t beat around the bush. It gets right into the action. That is – the first big event happens within the first chapter. You don’t have to wait to find out what the big issue is going to be – it happens immediately. However, that’s not the only big issue and all of the big issues are tied together. Which makes this books plot twists all the more satisfying. Believe me, there are several twists. And just when you think you might have figured out who the big bad wolf is, you’re probably wrong. I know I was.

This book doesn’t read like a debut novel. This book reads like a seasoned novelist wrote the book. Now, is Terri Parlato a pen name for an established writer? Maybe. It wouldn’t be the first time that a seasoned author has penned a book under a pen name and it’s been listed as a debut novel. But the fact remains that until I looked it up, I had no idea this was the author’s debut novel. I even checked on Amazon to make sure it wasn’t just a debut novel for a new genre. No… this is the only Terri Parlato novel that Amazon lists. To me, this shows the author’s potential to be a big name, very soon.

If you love mysteries and thrillers with lots of plot twists, you definitely want to check this book out. I highly recommend it to all of my mystery/thriller fans and I think it might even be a good one to get started in the genre with.

All The Dark Places was a great book! It had everything I appreciate in a book: short chapters, dual points of view, excellent character development, and a lot of suspense. The twist at the end was very well done, I didn’t predict it at all. Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and to NetGalley. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

This is the first book I have read in a long time that I just could not put down! This story starts with a man in a hospital after an accident and he lost his memory. He called his estranged wife and she acted like nothing had ever happened and took him home. The story from here just continued to unravel. At the beginning I thought, 'what else could happen?'. The book continued to unravel unpredictable things one by one. There were points that I was making predictions but there were also parts where I didn't have a clue where the author was going with this story. If you are into mysteries this is a must read! When I finished the book I would not keep saying how much I loved it! When I researched the author I was upset to find there weren't currently any other books by this author. I will keep watching for more books by Terri Parlato because this book was just AMAZING!

After celebrating his birthday, Mollys husband is found dead. Who has killed him? The police are trying to figure it all out when he is linked to a disappearance. Was it him or one of his friends.
I really got into this book, trying to figure out the culprit. I kept changing my mind because everyone looked guilty.
A very fast paced mystery that you couldn’t put down.

What a sensational debut!! Loved this one so much.

Molly and her husband Jay have a bunch of close friends over to celebrate Jay's fortieth birthday. But Molly wakes the next morning to find her husband dead on the floor, brutally murdered. The mystery begins.

As the story unfolds, we meet Detective Rita Myers, investigating the murder with her colleagues. We find out more about the couples friends and their hidden secrets unfold, leading you to question almost every person. Molly herself has a dark past and she has no idea who to trust.

This was such a fast moving, fascinating mystery. The writing was fabulous and it was hard to believe this was a debut, as the author weaves some clever twists through the story. I cannot wait for more by this author. Brilliant!!

This one is a twisty, turning read!! Eight close friends are being investigated for the murder of one of their own. Jay Bradley is gathering research to write a book about abnormal psychology and crimes. Late one night while Jay was in his office finishing up on his writing, Jay was murdered and his filing cabinet was broken into. Detectives find a woman’s necklace hidden deep inside the filing cabinet that ties Jay back to a date and location where a missing woman was last seen. Not only does this necklace hold a mystery, but what mystery does Jay’s wife Molly hold and how does it all tie into their friendships.

An interesting book with a good concept. Kept me engaged throughout and was giving strong SVU vibes (which is awesome!)

All the Dark Places by Terri Parlato is a solid read if a little predictable. I found the characters to be fairly well-developed, but the premise of the perfect marriage at the start of the story is always perplexing to me. That doesn't exist. I think that always makes it easier to create a shock effect in a book, the wife is usually the one so dismayed and shocked at how things develop. Just an okay read for me. This took a while to get into. The middle was good; I was very interested in knowing what exactly was going on. But the ending wasn't satisfying for me. The reveal wasn't spectacular and the ending was predictable. I hate to say it but this book was nothing special.

Molly finds her husband, Jay, in his home office unresponsive the day after his 40th birthday party. Detective Rita Myers is assigned to case and interviews all of the couple’s friends that attended his birthday party the night before. Rita knows someone has information, and that it has to be one their friends. Molly is not only dealing with the loss of her husband, but also random calls about something terrible that happened to her in her past. As evidence comes to light, Molly tries to figure out if she ever really knew her husband at all.

I thought this was an incredible debut! It was fast-paced and had me thinking about it until I was able to pick it back up again. To me, that is a great thriller! I read this in a days times and I have no doubt that ALL THE DARK PLACES will be a huge success. This book reminded me of some classic old movies from the 1990’s, and I loved that. I highly recommend this book and give it all the stars!!

Any Law & Order, SVU fans out there? You might recognize some Oliva Benson in Rita Myers, the detective on the murder case we're presented here. She's a bit older but carries that same aura of independence, street smarts and a love of the job.

The first victim we meet with Rita is Jay Bradley - therapist, husband, friend. Jay is brutally stabbed in his garage/home office on the night of his 40th birthday while his wife, Molly, slept off the wine upstairs. We quickly learn that this was no random assault. Someone from his close circle of friends wanted - and got - the good doctor dead and gone.

Parlato is more realistic in her layout of Rita's detective work than some authors I have read as of late. Rita does not know everything right away - and neither do we. The tension and slow process of elimination of suspects makes for good late-night reading.

There were many red herrings but if I had one suggestion, it would be more actual clues. But the lives of the victims and suspects are messy and complicated, and I loved how Rita and her team unravelled it all. I will definitely be visiting her again in the next installment.

This is a domestic thriller with the huge twist that it's the husband who is murdered. Enough red herrings to keep a reader guessing. Loved the Rita Myers's detective character and the multiple view points. It was accurate but sometimes confusing that Molly referred to her friends by first name and the detective referred to them by last name.

Four couples gather together to celebrate the 40th birthday of their friend, psychologist Jay Bradley. His wife Molly has planned the party and invited Jay’s coworker Elise and husband Scott, Jay’s friend Cal and wife Laken and Molly’s childhood friend Kim and her husband Josh. When the party ends, Jay goes to his office to work on the book he is writing. That’s where Molly finds him in the morning. His throat is slashed and he is dead.

Veteran Detective Rita Myers investigates the case. It is obvious to her that the killer is one of the party guests. As she interviews Jay’s friends and questions Molly, she realizes that Molly’s reactions are not what she expected. What is Molly hiding? How is her secret related to Jay’s death?

All the Dark Places is a suspenseful, fast paced domestic thriller. Molly is a vulnerable, sympathetic character, a perfect foil for Rita, the cynical detective with over 30 years experience. Suspicion falls on each one of the party guests and it is not until the shocking conclusion that you understand why Jay was killed. 5 stars.

I received an ARC of, All the Dark Places, by Terri Parlato. Wow, this book. Molly's husband is murdered, can they solve who done it, before they strike again? This was a good thriller, kept me guessing until the end.

As a huge Shari Lapena fan this book was recommended to me. It definitely did not disappoint. Twists and turns, then even more turns and twists. I love that everything was full circle and the story cleaned up nicely with a fitting ending. If you're into mysteries and thrillers, as well as a little true crime / detective story, this book is for you. It is super interesting and I couldn't put it down!

With experienced detective Rita Myers leading the investigation, the police delve deep into Jay’s life and those of his close associates – everyone is a suspect and everyone's lives are under the microscope. A psychologist by profession, Dr. Jay Bradley was considered a nice guy and the perfect husband. He didn’t appear to have any trouble professionally and was working on a book. But he was murdered and the police suspect it was someone from his close circle. Who killed Jay? Was he truly the nice guy everyone thought him to be? Could the killer be a disgruntled patient or was Jay murdered by someone he knew and trusted?

As the narrative progresses, our attention is drawn to traumatic events from Molly’s childhood of which few people except her husband and immediate family were aware. When she starts receiving threatening phone calls from someone who seems to know quite a bit about her she begins to fear for her own safety. Is there any connection between Molly’s past and what happened to Jay?

The narrative is shared from alternating PoVs of Molly and the lead detective Detective Rita Myers. which gives us a well-rounded look at the crime(s) and the investigation. I liked that the lead detective in the case is a woman of 60+ with over thirty years of experience who enjoys mentoring her younger recruits.. The pacing of the novel ranges between slow and medium. The first half of the novel is quite slow and the writing is on the descriptive side. The story picks up after the halfway mark but even then the investigative angle was too slow for my liking and it looked like the detectives (and the FBI who entered the fray later) were not quite on top of things. Overall, the energy level was on the tepid side. There are many characters and multiple threads to keep track of which required the writing to be crisp and the plot to flow smoothly which was not the case despite the short chapters. Though I was underwhelmed with the writing and the pace of the novel, I did like how the story came together in the end and was surprised with some parts of the final reveal. Overall, while I didn't dislike Terri Parlato’s All the Dark Places, I wasn’t quite blown away by it. But many have enjoyed this book more than I have, so I would request you to read other reviews before deciding on this one.

A really enjoyable thriller which had so many twists and turns and a great ending which I didn’t even see coming definitely recommend
