Detective Kay Sharpe, ex FBI profiler now works in her home town police department alongside partner Elliot Young. A pretty teenager is found dead, assaulted and murdered; she'd had a change in character a few months ago; cyber bullying rife; another young girl goes missing; are the two cases linked? Sensitive subjects are dealt with well, characters developing nicely with obvious romance between the two main detectives blooming; teenage relationships with other teenagers and parents are well drawn. Investigating the murder does take prime place but there is plenty more going on in this small town. I did feel the second perpetrator was rather obvious but it was still a good story. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Woah! Another remarkable Kay Sharp story. I've enjoyed every book I've read by Wolfe.
The Girl on Wildfire Ridge is book four in the Detective Kay Sharp Series.
As usual, the pace is relentless. Characters were engaging. And the story was pretty dang amazing.
Another brilliant read in the series.
Fantastic series and this is a great addition.
Fast paced with mounting tension and loads of twists.
The twists and turns and so gripping I was glued to my Kindle.
This book starts with a bang and kept me hooked until the very end.
As always, the murders are brutal and the hunt for the bad guy is full of twists and turns. Wolfe really knows how to set the scene and this was one tense and chilling read. Parts of it definitely gave me goosebumps. The suspense builds right to the end.
It really is a nail-biting read.
This was a outstanding story, and my heart was in my mouth in some parts of it, as I would expect.
I've been a fan for awhile now and I can't wait to read more of Kay Sharp.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Bookouture,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This series just keeps getting better, and yes its one of the few series I'm actually reading in order, one of the main things I love about this series is the love you see between the main character and her brother , the interaction between characters, and the way you can get lost in the story. Plus the book is fast paced, with lots of POV changes that help bring the characters to life as well as show their personality. Other thing is how the author brings forth topics that need to be talked about like Cyber bully.
Detective Kay Sharp has acclimated to her career as a detective back in her home town. She was an FBI agent, profiler and is a psychologist. She returned home previously when her brother Jacob was in trouble, and she ended up staying and joined the local police force.
Her newest case really has her on edge. In fact, Kay and Jacob are hiding a secret that could totally destroy their lives, and her newest case brings her past front and center. Can she solve the case of who killed a young girl named Jenna, all while closely guarding her secret?
While Kay is looking for answers, so is her partner Elliot Young. In fact, he just might be looking for more. His feelings towards Kay are strong, but he has very good reasons for not letting her know how he feels. The fact that they are working together so closely on this current case only works to exacerbate his growing feelings even more.
In this book one thing is made very clear. There is no such thing as a coincidence, and this proves to be an undeniable fact for Kay and for Elliot. It was quite interesting to watch Kay navigate what was going on now, all while feelings of sadness and regret threatened to consume her.
While this thrilling book could be read as a standalone, understanding Kay and her motivations is made much clearer by reading this compelling series in order. For an excellent read, one that not only deals with a serious crime towards a teenager but goes back to the tragedy that Kay and her brother Jacob experienced, then look no further than this book, The Girl on Wildfire Ridge. You will be glad you picked this one up. I love this engaging series and cannot wait to see where things go with book five.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
As usual with this author, the story is very well written and the characters are excellent. The book is easy to read even though there is some jumping around, and this plot is also a little too strange to be believable, but it is entertaining fiction.
I read this book in one sitting as I really wanted to get to the end to see if I guessed the ending right.
Remarkable concept and impeccable execution from start to the end. Every single page gives a full-throttle effect.
This is a decent murder mystery thriller with difficult subject matter as it deals with rape and murder.
Detective Kay Sharp is the lead character and the difficult subjects are handled well. The storyline moves at pace and overall I found it to be a 3* good read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to preview.
I devoured this in one day! This is the 4th in the series but the first one I’ve read, and while I am excited to read the previous books to get more of Kay Sharp’s backstory, I didn’t feel lost when reading this. The book is fast paced, with lots of POV changes, which helps you start to put together two and two. I like when there are twists but they aren’t completely out of left field - once everything comes to light it’s easy to follow the threads back if it wasn’t what you suspected. I really enjoyed this and will be happy to continue the series! Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another great read in the Detective Kay Sharp series. Kay and Elliot are on the hunt for the person who brutally raped and murdered a teenage girl. Cyber bullying plays a tragic part in this mystery.
Looking forward to what comes next for Kay and Elliot.
You do not need to have read the previous books in this series to enjoy this one, but as always I would recommend reading them to get the full backstory.
Detective Kay Sharp is back with another adventure!
Jenna Jarrel was found in the Wildfire Ridge. The detectives and Kay believe that the girl had been pushed--but was sexually assaulted before her death. While investigating the case, they discover that Jenna had been a target of bullying and that she seemed to be in a relationship with another older man. Then another girl goes missing and Kay must find the perpertrator before it is too late.
From start to finish, the author has done a good job of drawing the reader into the story, making the reader feel like they are also investigating with Detective Kay Sharp. There were some very sensitive issues being addressed in this book such as bullying and sexual assualts and rape that were at times too disturbing to read but nonetheless, I believe the author tackle those sensitive issues very well. It was also fast paced, a plus sign in most thriller books and there were some unexpected twists and turns along that will take the reader to a roller coaster ride. I stayed up all night literally reading this book and I was hooked into the book! Can't wait to read the next one soon!
Overall this fast paced thriller worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is absed on my honest opinion only.
Book 4 in the Kay Sharp series proved to be another very good read. The characterisation is excellent and believable, the plot centres on teenage bullying and cyberbullying. The body of a young girl is found at the foot of a ravine. As Kay investigates, a wealth of lies and deceit is uncovered. The pace is steady throughout, with suspense and twists until the very end. I enjoyed it and would recommend as a good summer read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Kay Sharp is back and book #4 was such a thrill to read! This is one of my favorite series and I this book is why I love this series! Kay is such a great character to follow. When I started reading this book I don't know how the author does it but she has me captivated from the very first pages and before you know it ALL I'm doing is reading to get to the thrilling ending. I never get anything else done when reading this series . If you haven't read this series you need to today!! I read a lot of mystery/thrillers and this series every book has me hooked and waiting anxiously for the next book to come out. You will not be disappointed.
This was a pretty good mystery/thriller that also touched on issues of bullying, sl_t shaming, toxic masculinity and the entitlement of the wealthy.
The body of 17 year old Jenna Jerrett is found at the bottom of wildfire ridge. It is not clear if she jumped, was pushed or fell accidentally, but it is clear that before the fall she had been brutally r@ped. Naturally, being teenagers, her friends were not very forthcoming. She had apparently withdrawn into herself in the last few months but no one was telling the detectives why. A couple of days later another teenager from the same school is reported missing. Detective Kay Sharp thinks the cases might be related and she and her partner, Detective Elliott Young go all out to find her before she, too, is killed. But nothing is ever simple.
Evidence from the scene of Jenna’s assault shows two sets of male shoe prints and two sets of female shoe prints. A butterfly hair clip has fingerprints that don’t match anyone. As they zero in on Jenna’s online activity they find she has been chatting with an older man. When he is identified Kay’s world is rocked. It is a name she knows very well. But it cannot be because that person is long dead. Now she has to navigate the case while protecting her own very dangerous secret. The pace was crisp throughout and the suspense of wondering whether Kendra would be found alive was, well, very tense!
Eventually, as always happens some suspects are identified but that is not the whole story, there is a jaw dropping twist yet to come. There is a hint of a developing romance between Kay and Elliott which I didn’t think was necessary but, hey ho, many authors must feel obliged to stick some romance into their books. The most interesting aspect of that, for me at least, is whether Kay will ever feel able to trust Elliott with her dark secret. It was an entertaining story with yet another lesson for young people to be wary of what they post online. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.
I enjoyed this mystery…I liked this book…this author has woven a cannot put down tale of intrigue with likable characters, and yes some not so much…. The story moves quickly…the red herrings abound…guessing And changing…the book was sent to me by Netgalley for review…thanks to the publisher…this reads like a true crime story…could be a series on television or a movie…sad bit true tale of what can happen…what did happen…what might happen…families and friends…enemies and teenagers…bullying…
Being young should be great. You should be (almost) care free, doing good in school should be your only concern. Apart from that spending time with friends and family, falling in love, enjoying life to the fullest that should be on your agenda.
Sometime though it’s a different story. Being harsh is of all times. Even from a very young age, children are able to take what they want to have. Do they hurt someone in the process? They don’t really care. As long as number one has what number one wants. Of course, it’s about little things with younger children, but thing get really get out of hand later on.
This is Jenna’s story. She is about to experience this at first hand, unfortunately. Jenna is a happy young woman. She has friends to go out with, a loving family and she is full of life and smiles. Until one day she starts changing. Not only is her joie de vivre gone, but her appearance is fading away too. From once being a social butterfly, she turns into a moth…
What went on? What or who is making her life a living hell? Who started this and why? It’s bad, but it is about to get worse, at lot worse.
As I said in the beginning being a new adult should be the best time of your life. In reality it’s often fighting to be part of or stay in the popular group at school. It has always been like that, but before social media life was different. When I was at school (many years ago 😉 ) there were groups too, but we did not care so much about it. Nowadays when I see what happened when my son went to school, it’s a lot harder to fit in. The people around you can make or break you a lot faster and have methods handy to bully you like there is no tomorrow.
Social media is a great invention, but it can be a real cruel one too.
I had a couple of names in my head, as usual, but this time I saw I had pointed my finger in the right direction. Well, more or less anyway… 😉 So detectives Sharp and Young, if you need help the next time, you can always call me. LOL
Very intriguing story. I loved it. 5 stars
Thank you
The Girl on Wildfire Ridge (Detective Kay Sharp Book 4) by Leslie Wolfe had a likable main character with just a hint of romance in the storyline. The book had a solid mystery, which surprised me at the end.
I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters.
