This book was super helpful in giving a list of diverse books to check out. I appreciated the list of books and that it was geared toward middle grade readers as I am a teacher in that range. It is definitely something I would recommend other teachers checking out! Thanks to Netgalley for giving me the chance to take a look at this resource!
This sampler covered 6 different middle grade books.
Different Kinds of Fruit was what it began with, and I have to say that it was an incredibly brilliant start. I loved the approach to Non-binary, with the explanation being an aspect of their morning meeting. I desired to read more of this story. 5/5
The Lock-Eater is fantasy, and while that is my typical go to genre, it left something to be desired for me personally. The premise is good, and maybe if I read a bit further I’d fall in love, but in this sampler I thought it missed its mark, 3/5
Pride an Inspirational History, while nonfiction is hardly ever my go to, was incredibly informative and I learned quite a bit. The way it was written I believe would enhance someone’s reading experience. 5/5
The Visitors is a ghost story, taking place on a plantation, I’d be intrigued to see where the story goes. It’s not super scary, but it does contain more of a social horror element (slavery and racism). I’d want to read more, but it was a bit slow at the beginning. 5/5
Too Bright to See is a ghost story, a haunted house to be exact. It’s not tremendously scary either from what I read. It also contains a transgender main character. I would read more of this book. 5/5
The Best Man, I personally couldn’t get through. I was not the target audience for this part of the sample, and/or it didn’t resonate with me personally. 3/5
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me access to the free advanced sampler of these books.
Thank you for this collection of previews! I loved Too Bright to See, and had no idea that Kyle Lukoff had a new book coming, so I'm especially excited to read Different Kinds of Fruit.
Thank you for this lovely sampler of middle grade 2SLGBTQIA+ books! They're all a delight in different ways, from the excerpts provided. The Visitors is definitely on my TBR list now, and I'll keep an eye out for the rest!
The Pride middle grade sampler was delightful! I’m excited to learn more about Different Kinds of Fruit. I had not previously heard about Too Bright to See, but it looks very poignant. The Lock-Eater had a great cover andI’m curious to learn more about it! I will definitely be researching the books in the sampler and seeing if they would be a good fit for our classroom library! Thank you so much to Penguin Teen and Netgalley for the opportunity to read the sampler in exchange for honest feedback.
I really enjoyed this sampler! Thank you to Penguin and Netgalley for the opportunity to check out these awesome middle grade books!
A middle grade sampler in order to celebrate pride month. It's a helpful guide for children, parents and every middle grade reader to get the idea of the six books, which are included, and decided if they'll buy the book or not. Most importantly, they can see how informative is each one of them. Also gives the opportunity to middle grade teachers to have aome recommendation on topics like this for their students.
Thank you, Penguin Young Readers Group, for the amazing sampler book. I expected the samplers of each book (six books included here!) to be really short but I am quite surprised.
Each sampler has multiple chapters to read! And I was overjoyed while reading each of them.
Now I am planning to read and review each of these books in the near future.
Adding all of them in my to be read pile.
I am loving all these lgbtq+ middle grade books that are being published these days! They're so wholesome and well-written, such incredible stories!
I'll definitely check these titles out <3
This Pride Month sampler includes generous excerpts from six books that are geared to middle school readers. These titles will be welcomed by children and their adults. They reflect many kinds of kids and families.
As an example, “different kinds of fruit” is about a sixth grader, her father and a new student who comes to the school. The Lock Eater is a fantasy about an orphan. The other included books are “Pride,” “The Visitors,” “Too Bright to See” and, “The Best Man.”
Many adults recall how important books were to them when they were growing up, especially if they were feeling alone or different. Finding a book whose characters related to them often made a huge difference. In that way, many will find something terrific in these titles.
These are books that belong in home and on library shelves. Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for this sampler, containing sneak peaks from 6 upcoming middle grade books! I look forward to adding some of these books to our school library collection.
