4.5 stars I loved this book from start to finish. This is this 7th instalment in the wonderful FBI K-9 Series. If you have not read this series I suggest you find book 1 now and put away some time.
Meg an FBI canine agent and her K9 rescue dog Hawk are in the Boundary Waters National forest learning new skills alongside other K9 agents and their dogs. The whole event and Meg's life is thrown into turmoil when a fellow competitor is found murdered and Meg finds herself at the top of the suspect list.
This book is really well written. The tension builds slowly and then it does not let up until the very end. I was no where near figuring out who the murderer as let alone the reason for the murders.
If you love a great mystery with compelling characters do yourself favour and look these books up,
Thanks to Netgalley the author and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book.
This is book 7 in a spellbinding series pairing a woman and her search-and-rescue dog who work for the FBI, and a team of fellow agents and others to solve crimes. The book can be read as a stand-alone, although it’s fun to see how the various personalities and relationships develop throughout the series. This thriller takes place in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota, with riveting action, fast-paced suspense, and unexpected turns of events. It had me glued to the story - intriguing and outstanding!
Another fabulous book in Sara Driscoll’s FBI K-9 series. Meg and Hawk along with Brian and Lacey head to Minnesota’s Boundary Waters in Superior National Forest for a training weekend. Meg and Brian hope to give Hawk and Lacey an opportunity to hone their search and rescue skills by learning water search techniques. What should have been a fun, training experience turned into a nightmare when Meg is accused of murder. Her team rallies behind her to help solve the mystery. The suspense is high throughout the book, showing Meg’s strength but also her human side with the fear of losing Hawk and being charged with murder. I highly recommend this series for those who enjoy suspense-filled mysteries, dogs, and romance.
Thanks to Kensington Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion..
This entry to the series has Meg Jennings, a search and rescue dog handler off in remote Minnesota with Hawk in a field competition for dogs training to perform underwater searches.
The competition draws members of law enforcement from all over the country. When Meg discovers a competitor mistreating her dog, Meg steps in, but has the tables turned on her when she files a complaint against Meg. Later, when Hawk discovers her body in 80 feet of water after the second trial, it’s Meg who lands #1 on the suspect list.
I enjoy the teachable moments, the tidbits about the training of the canines, their instincts and how to use them, their abilities, and the symbiotic relationship with their humans.
This storyline dealt heavily with Meg’s feelings about her possible loss of Hawk and her job. While I enjoyed the atmospheric descriptions of the cold Minnesota mountains and the lakes, I missed more active involvement with the dogs.
The conclusion swept the narrative into a climactic and dramatic operation that included both dogs and law enforcement and provided a satisfying closure to all open threads.
I love this series, always assured of a new, unique storyline involving my favorite characters, particularly Hawk. You could read this as a standalone, but you’d miss a lot of good reading! 4.5 stars
Hawk a black lab learning to stay calm and focus learning water rescues. The scent would be below, surrounded by unknown material. He was great on land, the tests could he do water rescue, if so he would be in high demand. A competitions with others here, all became a nightmare for Meg when a body of one is found.
Excellent series, the plot catches you and finding the real killer
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion for Net Galley and Kensington
Another great addition to Driscoll’s FBI/K9 series. And it doesn’t disappoint. FBI agent Meg and her K-9 Hawk are at a training camp contest to learn new skills. Then Hawk finds the body of a colleague and things go haywire for Meg- she is under suspicion for the death. Now she needs to find the killer and clear her name. She’s got to find out who is framing her. Again she has the help of her merry band of friends, coworkers and her partner. And the thrill and mystery keep us going until the very end.
This murder mystery has all you’d want, especially the group of comrades working together to solve the puzzle. Lots of winding trails and action as well as the really satisfying relationship between Meg and her dog Hawk.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is another book in the FBI handlers / K9 books series. Meg and her dog Hawk are in rural Minnesota participating in a training and testing exercise with handlers and their dogs from all over the country. Everything goes crazy when one of the competitors cheats and then is found dead the next day. As Meg tried to solve the mystery, she becomes the primary suspect. Luckily she has the support of the rest of her FBI team and her friends that accompanied her for the competition.
I enjoyed the story again as I have the entire series. Looking forward to more!
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
The seventh in the series of Meg and Hawk SAR mysteries, I found this one to be a bit weak. Although the early parts of the book were very interesting, explaining the differences in land and water searches, etc., the premise didn't really hold attention. The "peril" of losing her job and dog never seemed very possible and the conclusion was reached without much suspense.

FBI canine agent Meg, a search and rescue dog (Hawk) handler for the FBI's Human Scent Evidence Team, her fellow agent Brian and his dog Lacey, as well as several other teams from around the US, and Meg's boyfriend Todd (and his firefighter brothers) are up in the northern Boundary Waters of Minnesota on frigid Lake Superior for a training session. There is some friction. but most of it centers on one handler who proves to be a real piece of work. Then her body is found on the second morning and Meg is in the frame. Wild! Nerve wracking suspense when they had to rappel down a steep cliff to get to another body and other things. Add in that one of the group (not law enforcement) is an investigative journalist for the Washington Post and you begin to see some possibilities. A real thrill ride this! Loved it!
At the beginning of each chapter is a definition of a useful word in specific terminology.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

This series just keeps getting better and better! FBI canine agent Meg is in the isolated Boundary Waters National forest with her scent dog Hawk, who is learning to do water detections. Her fellow agent Brian and his dog Lacey are there, along with other K9 law enforcement teams and their scent dogs. In addition to the water trainings, there are a series of competitions to test the dogs and their handlers skills. At the end of the weekend, who will go home a winner, and who won't make it home at all? Meg is suspect #1 in the attack on another competitor. It will take the skills of Meg, Brian, Meg's boyfriend Todd, Brian's Husband Ryan, Todd's brothers, and a lot of help from the dogs to scent out the competitor that will stop at nothing to be the winner.
I love the characters, I love the strong female lead and I think the storytelling is fantastic! The author's meticulous research and well written descriptions made me feel like I was camping alongside the characters. Start with book 1 and read this whole series!
Thank you to author Sara Driscoll and Netgalley for providing an advanced reader copy in return for my honest review.
Meg Jennings and her FBI K-9 partner Hawk are in Minnesota for trials in water search skills, along with co-worker Brian Foster, his K-9 partner Lacey and other handlers from police departments - each team eager to win the competition. When Meg finds the body of one of the competitors, the investigator hones in on Meg as the murderer due to a complaint the victim had filed against Meg.
Who in the group had reason to murder the victim? What are the connections, if any, between the other handlers and the victim? If Meg and her friends cannot find the answer, she stands to lose not only her job but Hawke as well.
A wonderful addition to the series - fascinating information regarding the training of the K-9s in water search.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for a copy..
Meg Jennings, search and rescue dog handler for the FBI's Human Scent Evidence Team, finds trouble even when she’s not on a job. In Sara Driscoll's ninth in the FBI K9 series (Kensington Books 2022), she and her canine partner, Hawk, are in a remote part of Minnesota as part of a contest designed to hone Hawk's water search skills so he is qualified to find bodies on land and in water. Scents are planted underwater and in hidden places on land by those running the contest. Hawk not only finds these, but one they didn’t plan on--the body of another competitor, a handler Meg had fought with. Because the handler's last act before her murder was to turn Meg in for abusing her dog Hawk, Meg becomes the prime suspect, theory being Meg was angry enough about being exposed to kill her. With the authorities aligned against her, she gathers her own team--her fire fighter partner, her sister's journalism researcher boyfriend, and her search and rescue partner--to find the truth.
This is another fast moving thriller about Meg and her dog partner. As usual, Driscoll includes lots of details on how scent dogs find their quarry. I’ve read most o this series and this is my favorite so far.
I love, love this series and the latest addition to the series does not disappoint. As usual it starts off with a bang and doesn't let up. I hope that this is one of many to come.
As always, my husband enjoyed the new book by Sara Driscoll. Driscoll always finds new ways to work all her major characters into the fresh storyline with their fascinatingly different backgrounds, and a realistic depiction of how humans and working dogs interact. An easy read with a plot and characters that draw you in and keep you interested. My husband says this would be a good recommendation for teens to try if they like mysteries. We are looking forward to the next title in this series!
Do not miss this one! The team plus their 'other's go on a specialty rescue dog camp complete with campsites and canoes. Instead of r&r the expert brings murder and duplicity.
One of the best
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
I love this series! Reading the story is like being on a roller coaster as your emotions plummet when Meg and her SARs canine, Hawk, are in dangerous situations and then they rebound when her family by heart rally's around them. There is trivia at the start of each chapter which not only allows you to learn, but also gives you an idea of where the chapter is heading. The mystery and intrigue surrounding the contest goes until the very end and has you guessing the reasons behind the killings. Very well written and good to see the usual characters in a bit of a different light in this story.
Great addition to the series. Starts off with a murder and doesn't let up. Meg, Hawk and Webb all work together to solve the crime and clear Meg of the false accusation. This time Webb is an equal participant in the action.. as he shows off his abilities, proving he is an equal match for Meg. I felt this book was much better than the previous one.. I hope this is not the last we see of Meg, Hawk and Webb.
An excellent addition to the series. The author does an good job of bringing the reader back for more. The humans may drive the plot, but the K9’s provide the interest.
Meg, Todd, Brian and McCord are on another murder case to solve. Who killed the K-9 officer everyone dislikes and her K-9 partner?. Was it for cheating to win or something else? I love learning about the skills these trained dogs are capable of and the relationships between people and their dog partners. Excellent series, can’t wait for the next one.
Goodreads
Still Waters, the 7th book in the outstanding FBI K-9 series by Sara Driscoll was everything I have come to expect of this series; warm, intense, emotional, complex, fun and so much more. The mystery is as compelling as the characters and for me that is a rare thing. The interaction of the characters is wonderful and provides a great balance to the intensity of the investigations and searches. Action and adventure are highlighted alongside the great characters who create an awesome ensemble. I adore Hawk, the amazing SARs Labrador, appreciate the comradery between Brian and Meg that includes both humor, deep loyalty, and true friendship, and greatly enjoy the friends and family who are always there to offer a hand. More than ever, Meg comes to realize that the whole team is a family, not just the dogs and their handlers (best friends) and that family extends to others in her life who are always available for emotional support or to help the team. While I question how realistic it is that outsiders are allowed in, I love it! For me, their participation, even on the fringes, enhances the already fantastic novels.
This time Meg really needs both aspects of that support when fairly new FBI agent puts her at the top of the suspect list after one of the SARs teams participating in new training and in a weekend competition is discovered dead and obviously murdered. It doesn't help that Meg and Hawk are first on the scene and that Meg, among several, had words with the victim.
As a new fan to the FBI K-9 series who just finished the first 6 books, I was thrilled to be approved for a NetGalley ARC of Still Waters. I want to thank Kensington and NetGallery for allowing me the opportunity to read Still Waters early. I had just finished the sixth book with I found this one on NetGallery so you can imagine my joy seeing that I was approved. To put it lightly, Still Waters did not disappoint!
