I was given an early copy of Whats the Rush, an adventurous retelling oof the classic Fable Tortoise and the Hare. The story starts with rabbit wanting to go to the top of the mountain. Hare is ready to go turtle wants to wait until tomorrow.next day Hare keeps wanting to take off but Tortoise methodically takes his time and packs for their journey and does not budge until he is ready. This book teaches you the power of teamwork. These two friends can work together to get to their final destination. Tortoise has come well prepared you both share. You learn to deal with each other’s differences and the need for patience and thoughtfulness for one another.. Hare has to learn he can’t always depend on tortoise to provide for him. I loved how the story was told and the illustrations were remarkably timeless. I would absolutely recommend and plan on buying for my grandchildren. I have to admit expecting not to like this from the cover, but it proved to be quite the charming little read. A turtle and a rabbit are best friends, and when the turtle says he would like to climb the nearby mountain the rabbit is all over the idea, wishing it done yesterday. When the time comes to cross it off the bucket list the rabbit is eager as anything, but the turtle seems to be prevaricating, delaying, ignoring the issue, as he practically goes through a whole spring clean, tends his fruit trees and even does a spot of painting. Everything he says suggests he'll be ready in a minute – but that repeated phrase comes to mean something else when the mission is finally underway, and finding problem after issue after downer.
The art is an acquired taste, at least at first – the "beautiful" mountain is anything but – yet it's the appeal of the 'slow and steady' moral that sells the book. The characters are strong, yet the text simple and easily read, and the final joke a most suitable point to end on. I still think it a little ironic to have such naive-seeming art in a book whose lesson is about getting the best from the best preparation.
A charming take on the tortious and the hare, What's the Rush? has a turtle and bunny friendship where bunny is always waiting for turtle to be ready for a new adventure. I enjoyed in the fact that as it seems turtle is procrastinating their journey, it was that he was finding and packing all the things they would need. My 3 year old was very engaged in this rendition of the classic fable.
A lovely children's book based on the tale of the Tortoise and the Hare.
Gorgeous illustration, funny copy, and an important message. We all are different: some of us seem slow, take their time to act, plan ahead, are caring and supportive of ideas, while others are impulsive, creative, energetic and not very good at finding solutions. We can focus on our differences or we can team up and complement each other. Isn't this beautiful?
My 4-year-old loved the characters and the visual world, and I loved the content.
Thank you to NetGalley and Princeton Architectural Press for the Advance Review Copy.
What's the Rush? is a great story about a friendship between a bunny and a turtle. A spin on the classic Turtle and the Hare fable, this was funny! I loved seeing the bunny's impatience countered with the Turtle's preparedness. Nice illustrations also.
The Children’s book. “What’s the Rush?” Is about an adorable turtle and bunny and their friendship. Turtle has a dream and bunny wants to help him conquer it. Turtle isn’t in any rush. And bunny is. However; when they finally decide to tackle the obstacle turtle comes prepared and saves the day! Charming, funny, easy vocabulary and a lesson all wrapped into one cute story! 5 ⭐️Thank you to NetGalley for the Arc.
What's the Rush? is a twist on the beloved story of the Tortoise and the Hare. I really enjoyed this book and it was tender and sweet in unexpected ways. We see the same fast-paced Bunny and more slow-paced Turtle but instead of a race, Bunny wants to climb a mountain. But Turtle's response to this is "What's the Rush?" We see that while Bunny has been in a rush to climb to the top of the mountain, Turtle has been slowly preparing for their journey, making sure they have everything they might need.
This story was very cute and would be a great book to share with young children who are excited and impulsive and eager to jump into things head-first. Turtle's example shows them that sometimes, you have to make preparations and we have to be patient before going on an adventure. Thank you NetGalley and Princeton Architectural Press for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Such a lovely book on a life lesson to slow down and embrace what is in front of you. Great illustrations as well!
This was a sweet tale about the value of taking your time. Rabbit is in a hurry, but turtle shows that there is good reason for preparation and doing things with intention.
My daughter enjoyed this sweet story and was especially captivated by the cheerful, colorful illustrations. The expressive pictures also gave us an opportunity to talk about different emotions.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for an advance copy in exchange for our honest review!
Kids will love this spin on a classic fable. Bunny encourages Turtle to do something he’s always wanted to do, hike a mountain. Bunny has to learn to be patient as Turtle slowly gathers all the things they may need for their journey. A touching story of friendship and how sometimes being prepared can come in handy!
Thank you, Princeton Architectural Press, for the advance reading copy.
This storybook is such a good motivational retelling of the Turtoise and the Hare. I adore the aesthetic illustrations so much!
The story is such a good one. It shows the importance of team effort. It shows how patience is important in dealing with relationships. It shows what it means to push the other person when it's really needed.
Such a good one.
