Synopsis:
Book 3 of The Five Crowns of Okrith series follows Briata Catullus - one half of the famed warrior twins, the Twin Eagles - as she risks life and limb to protect Princess Abalina of the Western Court all the while trying to solve the brutal murder of Abalina’s mother. With the threat of Augustus Norwood growing more powerful in the East, insurrection lurking around every corner in the Western Court, and a terrible ancient magic reawakening, Bri must utilize all her training to keep Abalina safe long enough for her to take her rightful place as Queen. However, Bri’s Fate and her heart are careening down a path that may leave the Western Court in shambles. When Fate and free will collide, what will be left?

Target audience:
This book (and series) is perfect for romance readers who want a fantasy twist. The relationships - both romantic and platonic - take center stage with adventure and intrigue adding tension and depth to the primary flow of the story. For spice level, I would rank this book a 3 out of 5 peppers: 3-5 short sexy scenes, no fade-to-black, descriptive but not cringey language. If explicit sex scenes aren’t your jam, the author does a great job of building up to the sexy time, so you can skip ahead.
As for tropes, this book utilizes one of my all time favorites - forced proximity! Who doesn’t love a budding romance between a princess and her personal guard? Sign me up!

Thoughts:
I’m loving how the author is building this series. Each book has followed a different character out of the growing symphony of voices. It’s a great way to keep expanding the world without having 700+ pages for each book. I think the perspective changes over the course of the series bolster the “romance with a fantasy twist” vibe as well. Since the reader isn’t bogged down by massive world building or complicated group dynamics, the budding romantic relationships have more room to breathe.
While Rua’s story in The Witches’ Blade is my favorite character arc so far, I really enjoyed The Rogue Crown as the first book in the series to follow a queer character in depth. LGBTQIA+ characters were present in the first two books, but Bri is the first queer character we get to follow in detail. Bri and Lina’s relationship showcases the myriad of ways femininity is lived and experienced. Why have only one badass female main character (FMC) when you can have two?!
The one area that could use a little improvement would be pacing. In general, big reveals come on quickly and are resolved within a couple of pages. However, the author has made a remarkable amount of improvement in this area from the start of the series until now. If I had started reading this series with the perspective that it’s a romance set in a fantasy world, I think the pacing wouldn’t have been an issue.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I binged this series in a week. I was hooked from the very beginning. I’m looking forward to the final two books!

Every book in this series is better than the previous, and while each book focuses on one specific romantic couple, the overarching story is threaded between all.

Each couple brings a different dynamic to the story, and each character grows. Bri, was a fan favourite of many from the prior books, Golden Eagle, strong, valiant, supportive, bad ass.

What I love so much about Bri's story is seeing that shift a person goes through when they finally feel safe enough to take off their mask. This was one of the few books that caused actual years while the MC experienced their pain.

AK writes beautiful scenes. This was my first sapphic romance, and it was beautiful.

I am Blown away again by A.K Mulford. This book had me laughing, smiling, crying, I know I screamed at one point (no spoilers ) and...possibly questioning why I don't read more Sapphic stories. To be completely honest, this is my first Sapphic novel and I was NOT disappointed.

Favorite Quote: "All the good that I possess, I made for myself." - Bri

The Rogue Crown picks up where the Witches Blade ended as Bri was traveling to the Western Court to assist Delta, after a call for help. The Western Court Palace has been attacked and the queen is dead. Delta calls on Bri to assist her with finding the assailants hiding within the Court, while keeping an eye on the Western Princess, Abalina or Lina.
Of course the Priness is GORGEOUS and Bri is drawn not only to her cruvy beauty, but the strength she holds within herself and Love for her people.
This books is Bri and Lina's journey of defining their individual fates and how their two hearts collide.

The witty banter and interactions between Bri and Lina have to be some of my favorites in the series so far. It has Enimies to Lovers, Found Family, quest, self discovery & LGBTQ+.

I am IN LOVE with The Five Crowns of Okrith Series and I can not wait for The Evergreen Heir (Neelo's story, I can wait to see what they get into!).

And THANK YOU to A.K Mulford and Harper Collins for letting me be apart of this ARC team.

Omg Ali did it again! Every book gets even better. This is Bri’s story. This is actually my first sapphic story and i enjoyed it. I love all the characters they are all so close that is so great reading when they are all together. The plot was amazing and a few twists that you don’t see coming. Loved it. Can’t wait for The Evergreen Heir. Thank you NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ebook arc.

Thank you to A.K. Mulford, Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Other than the novellas, this is my third story I’ve read by Mulford. I adore the world of Okrith and keep falling more and more in love with every character and story. I usually don’t love series that transition main characters as it goes, but this series is truly done perfectly. The slow burn and lead up to the spice and plot crescendo is divine. I also appreciate how the series gets spicier as it goes and finds that perfect balance of adult fantasy without being all about the spice. It truly is the perfect formula for someone who prefers the majority plot with some fun extras.

This couple is also my favorite of the series. However, I think I say that every time. It’s hard to beat Remy, but Bri managed to show so much personality as the series progressed and it was so fun being in her shoes. She is flawed, real, and such a bad ass. I adore her so much and love how acceptable her sexuality is and that in this series it is all about love, empowerment, and there’s nothing that a couple can’t overcome through honesty and working together.

The ending also caught me for a loop. Maybe I’m easy to dupe, but I did not see that coming and it was the perfect blend of surprise, intensity, while still coming neatly together. I cannot wait for The Evergreen Heir and I’m so glad I savored every moment of The Rogue Crown.

Absolutely amazing. LGBTQ+ representation. Amazing friendships, and romances. I had suspicions about who was behind it, but never fully guessed. I really enjoyed it!

AK Mulford continues strong in the 3rd book in FiveCo. I love every single one of the main characters, but this one has been my favorite. Bri is headstrong, stubburn and loyal to a fault. Lina is too. Together, they make an unbeatable pair.

So happy to see Carys in this one. I loved the intrigue, and the political maneuvering. I cannot wait for book 4!

(Video recorded for TikTok but not yet posted, review will be written for BG Daily News - unsure when it will publish).

Get your battle axes ready!! This book was a ride!!

The Rogue Crown is a fantastic third installment in this series. A new court is brought to life as you follow Bri to fulfill a call for help from a friend in need. While answering this call she is deliciously distracted by none other then the princess, who is a lioness and powerful in her own right!

It was a bit of a slower burn then the others have been but is done in such a fantastic way to help build the chemistry between the characters and allow them to show who they are rather then being a forced romance. Did I mention it is sapphic?

The descriptions of characters and locations are vivid and full of life and you feel like you are there with them in person rather then reading a book. While I still will go to war for Renwick, Lina may have stolen my heart! And Neelo makes a lovely show as well. I cannot wait to see where their story goes in the next book!!

A big thank you to NetGalley and AK Mulford for this eArc!

The Rogue Crown is a perfect continuation of the Five Crowns of Okrith series. It is full of diverse characters that have been written in a way that showcases uniqueness instead of simply having it as another box to check. The story follows Bri, who was introduced in the first book, and her journey with Fate in the ever-worrying and dangerous world that they live in. Her story feels so real and Abelina, Lina, is a character that I am completely in love with as she is another example of how to be a strong woman in a different way from the other women in the series/previous books.

This book as a continuation of the series has the same, if not better, worldbuilding, and the interconnectedness that Mulford creates is beyond impressive. Each book and novella seamlessly fits like a puzzle and The Rogue Crown only added to that. I also enjoyed how the protagonist of the fourth book was introduced without taking away attention from Bri’s story. Neelo has been present in the series before but their presence in this book made me even more excited for The Evergreen Heir.

Overall, this is a perfectly sapphic and dangerous love story about Fate, grief, family, and destiny that is a lovely read and addition to an already great series. If any gram of you enjoyed any part of the previous two books please read this, you will not be disappointed!

Perhaps my favorite in the series so far! I’m really enjoying how each book introduces us to a new court, bringing supporting characters from earlier books into the spotlight.

Bri is such a badass, and I loved following along as she figured out how to live the life she wants rather than whatever her mother or some prophecy had planned for her. As much as this plot revolves around her falling in love, she was also learning to love herself (sorry if that sounds cheesy but it’s true!!)

This book tied in well to the building tension of the first two in the series, and set us up for yet another exciting installment.

First off, a big thanks to Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Now that that’s over — let’s get into it!

The Rogue Crown is the third book in AK Mulford’s fantasy romance series, The Five Crowns of Okrith. The first two books were phenomenal and our MC for this book, Bri, is introduced in those first two books. You don’t necessarily have to read those first but I’d highly recommend you do because you’ll understand and love her better!

The book opens with a lot of new world-building which AK does a great job with. Bri is summoned back to the Western Court (the place she’s run from her entire life due to a prophecy she doesn’t want) and is tasked with discovering who murdered the Western Queen and protecting Princess Abalina at all cost. Abalina, aka Lina, is not a delicate princess but a woman who is confident with a weapon, has lots of curves and thick thighs, and gives of a Robin Hood vibe as she seeks to right the wrongs of her mother’s leadership.

The story dives into their forced proximity, strength as woman leaders, understanding the witch world, and learning who is after Lina and the Western crown.

Will Bri usurp the princess and take the crown as the prophecy foretold, or will she leave and head East to attain a different crown? Will Bri find love in a person and place she never expected or will her pride get in the way of her fate as a ruler?

With the Violet witches being back…anything is fair game. You DON’T want to miss out on this book!

This is the third book in The Five Crowns of Okrith series. Each book opens up the world just a little bit mode, introducing new lands, new characters and so much more.

This book as with her others is beautifully written. An epic fantasy of the ages. The characters represent a broad spectrum of people. Plus size, LGBT+, neurodivergent, different races and different social backgrounds.

Bri’s story! She quickly became one of my favorite characters in the first book of the series and I loved her even more in Rua’s story. Now we get to see Briata Catullus in the spotlight and The Rogue Crown does not disappoint! An old prophecy has painted Bri as a usurper to the Watern crown, which means she is not welcome in the town she was born in. But she must return to help solve the murder of the last Western Queen and protect the Crown Princess Lina. During this adventure Bri is faced with another chance at love - but will this love be enough for her to give up her dream of competing for the Eastern Crown? Will she fulfill the prophecy and steal the Western Crown? An incredible third installment in the series!

The Rogue Queen was an amazing installment to add to this series. Not only did we get one strong FMC, but two! It was refreshing having two females who were warriors and not dainty princesses. The world building was done really well and got me really hooked to learn more. There was action, mystery, and great spice within this book. It felt like there was never a dull moment for Bri and Lina. The ending definitely set things up for the next book. I’m so excited to see what happens with Talhan and Neelo next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and Harper Voyager, and A.K. Mulford for an ARC!

The third book in the Five Crowns of Okrith series follows Bri as she arrives in the Western Court to help figure out who murdered the queen. This is not a standalone book and the 1st 2 books need to be read to understand some of the plot points. Bri was such an interesting character in the previous book and I was excited to read her book. A Prophecy surrounds Bri and it was implied she would take over the Western Court so upon arrival she is meet with heavy skepticism from its occupants. Old friends and new play apart in unraveling the whodunit of this book. And I really enjoyed watching her and Lina fall for one another. The book is wonderful blend of fantasy, mystery, action, and romance. I'm really looking forward to Neelo's book.

AK Mulford is great at storytelling and worldbuilding. The world she has created is diverse and intriguing, with fun dynamics between witches, fae, and humans. I love stepping into her books, due to how talented of an author she is.

The Rogue Crown has a sapphic romance, an NB side character (who isn't new to the series), and disability rep following an arm amputation. Each book in the series is told from a different character's POV, which lets you really get to explore the world and is something I absolutely love.

Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC! The third book in the Five Crowns of Okrith series follows Bri as she helps the Western Court figure out who murdered Queen Thorne. Just like the previous two, it’s full of magic, fae, witch hunters, romance, and action.

I absolutely loved getting to know Bri more and learning more about her history. There is so much more to her than the tough warrior exterior that she presents to the world. We already know that she has so much love for her friends and family, but we also get to see her vulnerable side and facing her fears in a new relationship. This book has a sapphic romance with some spicy scenes and A.K. is always so good about being inclusive.

I also enjoyed getting to know Princess Abalina and learning that there’s much more than meets the eye with her as well. We also see more of our fave characters from the previous books and things are set in motion for future books. I’m looking forward to the next one and seeing how things develop between a certain two characters. Overall 4.5 stars because I enjoyed Remy and Rua’s stories just a lil bit more.
