This One's for You by Kate Sweeney reminded me Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett and a little bit of the VIP series by Kristen Callihan. The only reason it reminded me of VIP was because of the setting, but it was actually very similar to Starry Eyes.

I really liked the two main characters, Cass and Syd. They were both interesting and I enjoyed reading their thoughts. I loved the plot. The "childhood friends to strangers to lovers" trope is one of my favorites and this was done well. Usually in books with that trope, there's always a huge and stupid reason for them to stop being friends, but this one wasn't really like that. I enjoyed that it wasn't like that because this book seemed more realistic.

The one aspect of this book that I did not like was that I did not really see Cass and Syd as a couple. I understand that this is a romance novel, but I would have preferred them as just friends. There was not anything in this book that made me really feel the romantic aspects because I was paying more attention to the plot and cared more about their friendship. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with enjoying the plot more, but I just wish there was more to their romantic relationship.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I think it was a great young adult novel.

An enemies/ex friends to lovers romance that I didn't know I needed. The social commentary was great and I really enjoyed this read!

This One's for You follows ex best friends Sydney and Caspian as they embark on a cross-country trip the summer after their senior year. Caspian wishes he could know more about his mother, who died when he was young. After discovering that the band she was in is touring, he follows them in a search for answers. Sydney has grown up in a family with perfect siblings and high expectations. She knows that her plans to not attend college and work on sound for concerts will be looked down upon by her parents. When her ex-friend Caspian mentions that his mother's band is touring, she convinces him to join her on a road trip that will change both of their lives.
This book was a super fast read, helped greatly by the pacing. Though the format does get relatively repetitive (Syd and Cass attending a show, driving, attending another show, etc.) there was never any part that had me feeling like the story was dragging on. The plot kept moving consistently. I read this book in a day, and was able to sit for long periods of time reading it without getting bored.
The dual point of view was very helpful for this storyline, especially for the romance. Given the fact that Sydney and Caspian have a past as friends but have drifted apart, seeing each of their perspectives is crucial to understanding where each character is coming from. For me, the romance did feel a little rushed at the end. It felt like things were not completely resolved but the book was almost over so they had to get together despite that. That said there was clearly chemistry between Sydney and Caspian, just conversations that needed to be had stemming from the past. Considering the fact that the characters are both eighteen and just out of high school, the rushed feeling of the relationship isn't completely unrealistic.
I'd recommend this book to those who enjoy the young adult romance genre. Anyone who likes music, road trips, friends, and adventure should definitely check out This One's for You.
Thanks Netgalley and Penguin for sending us this arc!

This was absolutely adorable. I loved every second of this book.

The dynamic of ex best friends was something I was very interested to see how it was written, and it did not disappoint.

This was a very easy, fast paced read for me, and I enjoyed this contemporary romance.
