Over the years, Smitten Kitchen is one of the only food blogs I still read with any regularity. It's a keeper, if you will. Because of that, I was so excited to get this ARC (thank you, Net Galley!)
A cookbook dedicated to recipes that are so satisfying that you want to make them over and over is a great idea, and this book does not disappoint. From the trio of Breakfast Salads to the Angry Grandma Pizza to the desserts, snacks, and cocktails, this collection of recipes looks amazing, and all seem easily doable! The (completely expected) gorgeous photography is a fantastic bonus. And now, I'm off to make a Bialy Babka....
This is a lovely cookbook with a photo and story for every recipe. Perelman is warm and chatty, and makes you want to come to her home for breakfast. I personally wasn’t that drawn to most of the recipes. I’ve been a home cook for a lot of years and I suppose I already have my “keepers” and also would have to adapt them all so much for my gluten free, vegetarian and keto family. Still, I bookmarked a few to adapt and try.
No nutritional info for the recipes, which knocks it down another star for me. Still a great cookbook and recommended.

The third cookbook from Deb Perelman does not disappoint. Each recipe is accompanied by a full-color photograph and a short narrative that provides background and context for the recipe. Recipes are concise, easy-to-follow, and generally contain easy-to-find ingredients. While not exclusively vegetarian, there are many veg-friendly recipes and the breakfast section is sure to be a favorite.
Compendium of the the best recipes from the Smitten Kitchen books as determined by the chef. These are for the most part excellent and relatively doable recipes for the home cook. Measurement are given in grams as well as weight. Advice and comment offer possible alternatives and suggestions on how to use leftovers.
I made the chicken with rice, chorizo and tomatoes. Resounding lip smacking from friends and family
Also made the Cabbage and Kielbasa WOW
Can't wait for the book!
Deb Perelman is one of the original food bloggers -- she has been around for a long time and has collected a huge number of followers, and -- even better -- a huge number of fantastic recipes. A lot of people have been waiting for this, her third cookbook, and they will not be disappointed! Her food is delicious, contemporary, and very well tested. Lots of vegetarian choices here, although this is not a vegetarian cookbook.
Yet another homerun by Deb Perelman. I have relied on her website and two cookbooks over the years for fantastic recipes. This book is no different. I can't wait till it comes out in print and my copy thst gets stained from daily use.
A well rounded, accessible cookbook with a bunch of modern classics, achievable at home with minimum skills…. A great addition to a cookbook shelf.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Smitten Kitchen Keepers by Deb Perelman.
As a fan of Smitten Kitchen and a follower of the blog, I was excited to get a preview of this cookbook. I devoured it in one sitting and let my children know that it is on my Christmas wishlist. Deb Perelman not only shares tried and true recipes, but also shares her story and her passion for each one. With the internet making recipes so easily accessible, I rarely purchase cookbooks anymore. But, this is one to own!
All of the cookbooks I've been getting lately have been drool worthy! This was one has some delicious looking recipes with accessible ingredients and instructions! I look forward to trying some of these!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
Loved this book! I use the previous 2 Smitten Kitchen cookbooks regularly, but this may be my favorite one yet! So many great recipes, clearly written, and approachable. Filled with keepers for sure!
I will start by saying that I'm a picky eater and I often have trouble finding cookbooks that actually have recipes that appeal to me. If you like recipes that have a variety of ingredients then I think you'd like this book. The recipes seem interesting and there is a good variety. I personally found the baking chapter to be more interesting since a few of the recipes in there were more appealing.
Pros:
I liked that within the recipes themselves explanations were given for why a certain ingredients was used if it's a more uncommon ingredient and there was an explanation for how to substitute that ingredient. For example, Dutch processed cocoa powder is pricey and harder to find than regular cocoa powder. For one of the recipes there was an explanation for how to substitute for regular cocoa powder which is very helpful.
There was a nice variety of recipes. While I personally didn't find any of the cooking recipes to be anything I'd make, I liked that you had a good variety so based on meals and different dietary preferences you could find something.
Cons:
I didn't like that there was a lot of narrative before and with each recipe. I prefer to simply get the information about the recipe, I don't need a story to go along with it.
I would've liked at least a couple recipes for picky eaters. While the entire book doesn't need to be designed for picky eaters, it is nice if at least a couple recipes are on the simple side for people who have a tendency to struggle finding simple things to eat.
I think this book is worth checking out since you will likely find at least one recipe in here that appeals to you but I also wouldn't say this book has anything particularly great.
Another winner from the kitchen of Deb Perelman! With recipes for your favorite bodega sandwich, peanut butter and jelly oatmeal bars, stunningly simple and scrumptious soups, and a chicken baked on a bed of croutons, this book is full of unfussy yet delicious recipes. I’m smitten with this book, and I hope you will be, too!
‘Cauliflower cheese baked potatoes’, ‘Oatmeal date shortbread, ‘Deepest dish broccoli cheddar quiche’, ‘Better than classic pound cake’ are just a few of the delicious sounding recipes in this new book by one of my favourite recipe creators, Deb Perelman.
I like that Deb puts a twist on popular dishes which keeps them accessible and a lot of her recipes have become staples with my family.
Our library prides itself on our cookbooks and this will be a popular addition.
A cookbook editor once told me that if you use ten recipes in a cookbook it is a success. I have used 90% of the recipes in both Deb's previous cookbooks and eagerly follow her website. So I was really looking forward to this, her third, cookbook, and it does not disappoint! She seems to anticipate your questions as you are thinking them, her asides to ingredients like (cold is fine) for butter are endlessly helpful and have helped me become a more confident cook. I have already made the pea, feta and mint fritters, the skillet white beans "Caesar" and the better than classic pound cake all of which are "keepers". I am actually hoping for cold weather so I can try the gorgeous slow-roasted chicken with schmaltzy croutons!
Deb has, somehow, done it again. She's created ANOTHER entire cookbook with nearly every recipe that I want to make immediately. I love her conversational intros to her recipes (I feel like we could be BFFs). After the past years pandemic cooking fatigue, I am ready to get back in the kitchen. I can't wait to sell this book in our stores!
The best kind of cookbook - the one that has you itching to make so many recipes from it! Personally, I'm going to do the pound cake, the white ragu, and the green angel hair!
Smitten Kitchen Keepers by Deb Perelman is a great cookbook with a good variety of skill level recipes. All recipes include full color photo and full instructions.
This is a great cookbook, one that I think has the potential to become a classic. It's always nice to see a new cookbook that will be easy to recommend to almost any customer.
Another great selection from Smitten Kitchen. A recommended purchase for collections where cookbooks are popular.
